But now, we also put off all these anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, guilt, the communication out of you now. But what? What’s that? These are the, this is the old man. See over there in the book of Ephesians it says, put off the old man. Well now we know what the old man is. It’s all these simple desires. In verse 9, lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the, there’s that word. You ought to underline it.
Old man. You see, I’m only 20 years old. You still got an old man. And in verse 10, and have put on the new man, put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. Now, this is a good thing to know what to do, what not to do. So if somebody says, you know, the Bible doesn’t tell us as Christians, there’s, you know, this negative thing about there’s thing we can’t do.
Yes, it is. It’s in the Bible. There’s positive and there’s negative things to do. There’s things not to do. God has a list of do’s and don’ts, like it or not. Now notice, I want you just to say a few things about a couple of other scriptures and then we’ll look at some other ones, but you don’t have to look at these. In the book of Genesis in chapter 5, it says, and this is the book of the generation of Adam in the day that God made him and how that he lived so many years and he had the son and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, but after about 950 years, what happened to him?
He what? He died. And then he talks about another one who lived so long and he died. Another one so long and he died and he lived so long and he died. You know what was interesting about the book of the generation of Adam? The answer is check that. They all died. Now there was one that didn’t die and that was Enoch. But you know who outlived Methosala? Methosala lived nine hundred and high long, sixty nine years? That’s a long time to live Enoch.
You know who outlived him? His daddy? His daddy didn’t die. I didn’t make it up. That’s in the Bible. But anyway, but they died, but that’s the first birth. When you go to the book of Matthew in chapter 1, so then this is the book of the generation of Jesus Christ, and then it lists the genealogies there. And as you go down through all these 14 generations, there’s no deaths recorded. Why aren’t there any deaths recorded? this is the book of life.
See whenever you’re in the book of living, you’re going to die. He says, Rejoice that your name is in the book of life. In the book of life, there’s no death. So that’s why one day at the Great White Throne Judgment, the books will be open. But those who did not have their names written in the book of life were cast into the lake of fire. That’s That’s why it’s so important for us to realize it. As a child of God, we know that we will never die.
You’ll never be separated from God. But the first birth will be. And that’s why if you’re born once, you’ll die twice. But if you’re born twice, you’ll only die one time. Now take your Bible and turn to John chapter three. John in chapter three. Remember this. Nobody can walk through life holding your hands all the days of your life. life. You have to learn how to stand on your own. You need to learn how to walk with the Lord and you need to learn how to deal with your sinful nature.
How to cope with it. And this is the book and it’ll help you. Because everybody has the same problem. Every Christian’s got the same thing to deal with. And we are all like passion. We desire the same thing. Old sinful nature. It’s a battle unto the day you die. But in John chapter three, you’ll notice there in verse three. Jesus answered and said unto him, Nicodemus, very, very truthfully, truthfully. I say unto thee, except the man be born again.
he cannot see the kingdom of God. So you can’t see it. And down there in verse 5, Jesus answered very, very I say unto you, except the man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. So you can’t see it. You can’t enter it unless you’re born of God. So the Bible teaches that a man must be born of God. So if we’re talking about an old man, and that’s when you got when you trusted the Lord, and then you talk about a new man, well, when was he born?
When was this new man born? He had to have a birth? Well that’s interesting because when you trusted Christ as your Savior you got a new birth. That’s when the new one was born. But notice what he says in verse 6, that which is born of the flesh is flesh. That’s the first birth. That which is born of the spirit is spirit. That’s the second birth. So the first birth is flesh and you can be born again and again and again and again and again.
But if it’s a flesh birth it doesn’t do you any good because every flesh birth is a sinful birth born with a sinful nature. Would it be great if we could be born the second time without a sinful nature? That’s what the second birth is, being born of God from above without a sinful nature. You see, if I could have a bird without a sinful nature, then I wouldn’t desire sin. I wouldn’t do wrong. I I wouldn’t never die.
Wouldn’t that be great? Well, that’s what happened. But you’re still living inside of a body that has an old man living here, and he doesn’t want to share the body with a new man. So guess what they do? They fight all the time. And that’s the struggle that you have in the Christian life. So in verse 17 it says, Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again. So you must be born again. The only way you can get this new man is to have a new birth and the new birth is by trusting Christ as your Savior.
Now look over there in the book of Romans in chapter 9. The book of Romans in chapter 9. Many people believe that there is the Fatherhood of God and that means that God is the father of everybody. So that means if God is the father of everybody, then we are the brotherhood of man and we’re all brothers. Well, it all depends on which family you’re talking about. God is the Creator. He’s not your father until you’re born into his family.
When you’re born into God’s family, then you becomeliam a child of God. But look what he says in verse 8 of chapter 9, that is, they which are the children of the flesh. These are not the children of what? They’re not the children of God. So you’re not a child of God unless you have been born into God’s family. Now this is where I like to use a simple illustration because I want you to have this so ingrained into your mind, you’ll never forget it and I don’t care what happens and where you go, you’ll always remember how to keep yourself strong in the Lord, how to deal with this old man, this arm right here.
This represents our first birth. It’s a flesh birth. God says these are not the children of God. We have a sinful nature. We naturally do that which is wrong. So God says these are not His children. Now take your Bible and turn there their to the book of 1 Corinthians in chapter 15. 1 Corinthians in chapter 15. And notice what he says in verse 50, verse 50, 1 Corinthians chapter 15 and verse 50. It says, now this I say brethren, flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God.
Our look up here, flesh and blood, the first birth, cannot inherit the kingdom of God. He can’t see it. He can’t enter it. He can’t inherit it because he’s not a child of God. So this is the first birth. And God says, there’s none righteous. No, not one. There’s none that sineth that doesn’t sin. All have sin and comes short of the glory of God. We’re all in the same boat. This is everybody that’s born into the world of the flesh birth.
This is why Christ says you must be born again. God doesn’t do anything with this birth. He doesn’t change this birth, doesn’t change this man, and trying to quit your sin and turning from sin and all that stuff has nothing to do with salvation. The new birth is a birth born of God. Now take your Bible and turn to the book of John chapter 1, the book of John and chapter 1. This is why when it says here in John chapter 1 how that Christ came into the world and He didn’t come to condemn the world because why the world is already condemned God’s already done rendered judgment Every man has sinned every man is condemned and the whole world is guilty So Christ doesn’t have to come to condemn the world and he didn’t come into the world to condemn everybody because of their sins
Yeah He came to pay for sin. He came to save man We’re already condemned. That’s why when we want to win people to Christ, we don’t have to spend hours an hour And I’m trying to get them to quit their sinning They’re condemned They’re guilty. They’re on the way to hell quit their sin. It ain’t got nothing to do with anything They need to know how can they get saved? How do they get the new birth? So John chapter 1 looked there in verse 11.
He came into his own, but his own received him not talking about the nation of Israel But as many individually. As we see them to them gave He power, the authority to become the sons of God, specifically to them that believe on His name. Our look up here. When you and I believe that when Christ died on the cross, pay for our sins, if we believe He did it for us, He gives us as a free gift, eternal life.
We become His child born into His family. This is a new birth, born of God. If it’s born of God, then that means God is the Father. If God is the Father of this new birth, then this new birth is as perfect and as righteous and as godly as God himself, it’s his child. God can’t father a sinful individual. He can only father a perfect son of God. This is the only reason that we can go to heaven whenever we leave this world, is because we are perfect just like God is perfect.
No sin. And that’s why he makes the statement in the book of 1 John and chapter 3. In verse 9, that whosoever is born of God does not commit sin. For his seed remains in him and he cannot sin because he’s born of God. If a man is born of God, he cannot sin. That means cannot commit one single act of sin. There’s two Greek words, praso and poeo. And one means to practice sin. And that’s a lot of what you find in a lot of translations.
But the word there means you cannot commit one single act of sin. Because his seed remaining in him and cannot not sin. Now he can’t practice sin. He can’t sin. He can’t commit one. So how do we get out of this jam? Remember this. If I am now a child of God by faith in Christ, and God is my Father, If my new bird has no sinful nature, it cannot what? It can’t sin. If it cannot sin, it cannot die.
And if it cannot die, it lives for how long? Forever. So how long will I be a child of God? Forever. So I have these two birth. There’s the old man. There’s the new man. And I got one body and they both live inside of this body. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. But the old man lives in there and he wants to claim control. It’s like having a car and you got two people in the car and I’m driving down the road.
If I say I’m driving it to wheel and there’s Leon setting over there. The other day I looked down this road and I looked at that away and I pulled right out and men I just slammed on the brakes because the car was coming right there. And if I’d have just another second then he would have got Leon. And they’re right Leon scared me up. I think Leon wanted to drive. But he represents the old man. I represented the new man.
I saw it in time. But it’s like two people that are struggling on who gets to drive the car. And here’s your one body that you have. And God says, it’s whoever you yield to. You can yield to the old man and he’ll drive your car, but he’s already told you, I’m gonna wreck this thing if I can. And then you let the Lord lead and guide you, and he’ll always keep you safe. So you got a choice as you go through life.
Bless your spirit, bless your spirit. But they fight back and forth all the time. hate each other. And so you go through this rigamaro all the days of your life struggling back and forth. But it says that whenever you receive Christ as your Savior you’re born in the God’s family and if it cannot sin it cannot die you’re a child of God forever. Now take your Bible looking to book of Romans the book of Romans in chapter 7. Romans, chapter 7.
This portion of scripture has tied up many a preacher trying to figure out how do I explain this? It’s really not that difficult when you understand the two natures. This is the Apostle Paul. I think one of the greatest Christians that ever lived. This is after he has been saved about 25 years. And look what he says in verse 15. This is the great Apostle Paul. Notice how many times he says the word, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I He says in verse 15 for that, which
I do, I allow none. In other words, I didn’t give myself permission to do that, but I did something I didn’t permit myself to do. Then why did I do that? He said, for what I would, that do I not? In other words, what I want to do, I don’t do. Sound like a lot of Christians? Well, I want to serve the Lord, but I didn’t. I don’t want to do anything wrong, but I did. We try to watch what we say, what we think, and what we do, where we go, and all the things, and we keep messing up.
Anybody like that you know? He says here, but what I hate and that do I Yet then I do that which I would not I can send him to the law that he is good Because I gave myself permission to do it Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me that word sin is singular It refers to the old man means in refers that old sinful nature that you have inside of you Look at verse 18 now for I know that in me That is in my flesh.
Develop no good thing for to will is present with me, but how to perform that, which is good I find out. Look up here. The problem in the Christian life is learning how to perform. This is what God wants me to do. Yeah, but I got half of me that doesn’t want to do it. How do I win? I struggle with this because God wants me to do this and I want to do that, but I don’t want to do it now.
Because I got something inside of me that always does just the opposite Do you really want to be mean and ugly and unkind and hateful? But do you ever find yourself being mean and ugly and unkind and hateful? You ever say something really mean and ugly and sharp And all that may I’ve been my little halo just never slips You know, there’s only about nine minutes between a halo and a noose and some people’s halo is a little crooked He says, for to wield the desire I want to, but I can’t figure out how to succeed.
So he says verse 19, for the good that I would, I do not, and the evil which I would not that I do. Now, if I do that, I would not. It is no more I that do, but send the dwellers of me. I find out who it is. It’s that old man that’s inside of me, that old nature that I’ve got, the old man that’s trying to get control of my body. And then he always trying to sneak up behind you and then knock you as far as he can Remember he wants to ruin you did you see here’s a rat see this right right here?
There’s a rat right here See over here. There’s some cheese right there. You know this cheese is no problem for this rat Unless inside of this rat is something that desires cheese You know if he didn’t desire cheese, it wouldn’t tempt him Why would that stupid little rat put his nose inside that little mouse trap? because he’s after what? That cheese. And so he is deceived. He is letting something that he wants lure him into that. See that’s what if you didn’t have a sinful nature the desires of the world wouldn’t bother you.
You see that good looking blond bombshell walking down the street. It wouldn’t bother you if you didn’t have inside of you something that was wrong. You got a problem. The desire to make money to get rich, all these things, pride, jealousy, envy, bitterness, all these things that God says, that’s the old man, put it off. But you’ve got to take and have something better because there’s a principle of replacement. If you move something out of your life, you’ve got to fill it with something better.
If you feel your life doing the thing God says to do, you won’t have time to do the other. I told people out here in Colorado one time, I said, I stay so busy that I’d have to schedule when they get in trouble. Schedule your life, or you keep doing the things you know you’re supposed to do, and don’t make provision for the flesh. Don’t make opportunities to get in trouble. It’ll help you. Then what he says on here in verse 21, I find in a law that when I would do good, evil is present with me.
It’s always present. And we’ll be until the day you die. Now very quickly, we got to cover this very quickly. Look in the book of Galatians in chapter 5, the book of Galatians, and chapter 5. Look in verse 16. This is a choice that you make, a choice that I make. Nobody can do it for us, but it’s an individual thing. You can be as godly as you want to be. You can be as worldly as you want to be.
But it’s your choice, but there’s a price to pay. In verse 16, this I say, then walk in the Spirit, you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Look up here. Walk in the Spirit. That That means yield yourself to the new birth. This new man has got new desires that loves the Word of God and wants to do right. Yield yourself to the new man and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. You still got him.
You’ll always have him. Have them. Till the day you die, called the flesh nature is in the body. When you trust the Christ as your Savior, He washed your soul as white as snow, but He didn’t do one cotton-picking thing to that body of yours, it’s getting old and it’s going to die. And when the body dies, the flesh is gone forever. Aren’t you glad? That’s why He says, if a man believe it in me, though he died, yet shall he live?
And you will live because you’re in Christ. It’s the new birth. makes the statement in verse 17 for the flesh, lost against the Spirit, the Spirit against the flesh, the flesh, lost against the Spirit, the Spirit, lost against the flesh. They hate each other. There are two extremes, war it all the time inside of you. That’s why some Sunday mornings I want to go to church and another one says, no you don’t. I want to read the Bible. I don’t want to read the Bible.
I’m gonna have me accures. No you’re not. And so you have the flesh over here and he He says, I hate the new man. And so they want to fight all the time. Here’s that little Muslim over here, that little Arab, and he hates the Jew. And they always fight. But the first birth was the flesh birth. And it’s always been the first. It was always Cain. And it was all after the day. It’s just the way it is.
Now, when you look at these scriptures, and you try to give me a visual image of it, picture a white dog and a black dog inside of your fighting. So I said, well, which one wins? The one you say sick them to. The one you say sick them to is the one that will win. It’s your choice. And the flesh will never leave you alone. He wars against you all the time. You see, your biggest problem is not your neighbor.
Your biggest problem is not the guy that you got on the job. It’s not the person down the street. It’s not the preacher. It’s not the person sent beside you in the pew. They’re not your biggest enemy, it’s not even the devil. It’s not old man that lives inside of you. He’s the one that’s doing you in. He wants you to live in fear. He wants you to be totally corrupt. He doesn’t want you to serve the Lord, do right.
But anyway, he said in verse 19, now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are the works of the flesh is the products of the flesh. Look over here, the flesh. And these are the works of the flesh. This is not written to the lost man. This is written to the Christian. The worst of the flesh are manifest, which are these. Adultery, fornication, and cleanness, less divviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresy, himian murders, drunkenness, and reveling such life, of which I gave before as I told you in time, fact that they would use the things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Why can’t they inherit the kingdom of God? Because we read it first while ago, this is flesh and blood cannot what? Inhear it the kingdom of God. He can’t inherit the kingdom of God. None of his works will ever show up in heaven. So the Christian is wasting his life yielding himself to the flesh and let the flesh ruin his life down here Most people I know want verse 22 and 23 But the fruit of the spirit is love joy peace long suffer gentleness goodness and faith Makeness and temperance against it says there’s no law.
There’s no law against that There is a law that says you’re not supposed to bring forth the works of the flesh, but there’s no law that says you can’t love You can’t have peace you can’t have joy that doesn’t say that, does it? So over here, the Spirit, you yield to the Spirit and look what you’re going to have. You yield to the flesh, look what you’re going to have. Now which one do you want? This seemed like a no brainer to me.
And that’s why I make the statement there in the book of Galatians in chapter 6. Look in verse 7, be not what? Be not deceived. God is not mocked for what sort of a man so if that shall he also reap. Look of him. If you sow to the flesh You’re gonna reap from the flesh and if you’ll yield yourself to the Holy Spirit you’re gonna reap that What do you want? So as you go through your Christian life, you’re the one that got to call it sure deal So you can make up your mind You owe to the Lord and you’ll love it and if you don’t you’re gonna be whooped because God is not gonna allow you to live as you Please and get away with it.
There’s a price to pay But Understanding this I don’t get where you are at home at church work. I don’t it doesn’t matter You know that you have within you an old man don’t feed his desires like I used to say if you were to take and put me in a room with you know in his prime Cassius Clay put me in a ring with Cassius Clay what chance do you think he had in his prime and me and my prime why are you laughing but you see if I if I could do something I I think I could figure out a way to whip it you see if I didn’t feed him then you mean thing to drink for about two weeks.
He’s still with me, six months. Nothing to eat. So that he’s just a bean-pole and totally weak. And all the time I’m working out and I’m doing all the good stuff. See, I can build myself up where I can take it. But you’ve got to feed the one, start the other. See, most Christians, they’ve got to feed both of them. You know, they give the Lord a little bit on Sunday, but then the other days of the week, they do whatever they want to do.
Well, I gave God my dues. Now the rest of his mind, I can do anything I want to do. No, you can’t. All my life belongs to the Lord. I don’t try to do anything wrong on Monday that I ain’t supposed to do on Sunday It doesn’t matter what day of the week it is it doesn’t matter where you are Where do you let down? We can you just you know not worry about it anymore? No, you’re always concerned all about the testimony every day all the time At home, did you realize it’s just that my testimony is as important between me and my wife But it is between me and the deacons of the church or where you work your testimony is always important You can’t never let up like it doesn’t matter in front of the back person.
I can let my hair down, you know, I can do it. No, you can’t. I don’t tell dirty jokes in church. I don’t tell dirty jokes outside of church. I mean, your testimony is supposed to be the same. Or did I misunderstand something? That’s why he’s talking about in the new birth, the true holiness to where if a man really loves the Lord and want to walks with the Lord, it will produce a true holiness in his life. I don’t like the charismatic thought of having up on us that we We ought to take and shun sin and evil just as much and realize that this Bible is true and we need to obey it.
Look up here. This is you and me and this is sin. We all have sin upon us, but God says he loves us, but he hates our sin. And for us to pay for sins, eternal separation from God in a place called hell. And God doesn’t want us to go to hell. He wants us to go to heaven. And to go to heaven, you’ve got to be perfect. It’s right. This is God. Nobody’s perfect. We’re all sinned and come sort of God’s perfection.
God says that the payment for sin is death. So you can’t save yourself. This ends in Jesus Christ. He’s the Lord, God in the flesh. He came into the world because he loves us. He hates our sin because it separates us from him. Christ’s, He’s, he’s faithful on the cross, came back from the dead and said, well believe He did it for us, he put that payment out, we get to go to heaven on what He did for us.
Isn’t that simple? Isn’t that the best news in all the world? Don’t ever forget it. It is the best, nothing better than this. Let’s pray, Charlotte. Every head bowed and every eyes closed. No one looking around. If you’ve trusted Christ as your savior, your God’s child, You have eternal life. You’re going to heaven when you die. But until then, you’ve got to walk through this life. There’s an old man that lives inside of you. There’s a new one. And the one that controls your life is the one that you yield control to.
That’s why he says in the book of Romans in chapter 6, yeodie your body, your members of instruments of righteousness unto the Lord, and God will bless you for it. And talk to the Lord and ask Him to help you. When you’re doing things that you shouldn’t do, correct it. Because you can’t walk in the flesh and win. You will not succeed. You can’t play the game. You can’t play both sides of the fence. You don’t want to side of the other.
Don’t be a hypocrite. Our father, we asked your blessings upon us as we studied your word and understand these things and fly them to our lives. It helped us to do right all the time. I just church, but at home, at work, wherever we go, with your children. And probably ask your blessings upon us. In Christ name we pray, amen.
