I want you to turn first of all to 1 John chapter 5 and verse 13. We are talking about objections that you may receive when you witness to somebody. And sometimes a person’s question or doubts may be yours. So learning answers helps you. And the Bible says learning how to give an answer to every man. Well, if you’re to learn how to give an answer to every man, then it’s part of my responsibility to teach you how to do that.
Even though some of the things that I give to you, yes, there are things that are mainly taught in Bible college, but almost all preachers or evangelists, missionaries, they go to Bible college and they learn these things. And then when they get into a church, they never teach them. I want to teach you what I was taught. I want you to know what I know. I always look at it this way. If you knew what I knew, you’d do what I do.
Doesn’t that sound simple? If you knew what I knew, you’d do what I do. So you’re trying to teach people how to do what you do. The Bible says be an example, therefore, of the believer. If you’re going to be an example, that means you have somebody follow you. Not just in that you behave yourself and you go to church, but in your manner of life, how you actually think. Why you do what you do. And so I hope that these things will help you tremendously.
But there are people that you would talk to and they say, I don’t believe in hell. I just don’t believe there’s a hell. If you happen to have someone say something like that to you, I can understand that. that. For many people deny, most of them ultimately, those things which we most fear. And psychiatrists, if you believe in psychiatrists, I really don’t care too much for psychiatrists, but I imagine they probably have a nice little job to do. Some people who have some problems and some hang ups, they might be able to be of help to you.
But I believe that Christians, Psychologists are somebody that will try to solve a problem according to the Bible and not humanistically speaking. So whenever you think you need a psychiatrist, go to a Christian psychiatrist. They are Christian psychiatrists and they sometimes can help counsel you with the word of God. But they tell us the one fear, the number one fear of the human heart that everybody has fears, all kinds. But the number one is what’s gonna happen to me when I die.
And sometimes people don’t wanna face up to their fear. They have the fear, but they don’t wanna talk about it. They’re afraid of death, but they don’t wanna talk about it. And so you’re the one that’s gonna have the courage, the boldness, the look of verses straight in the eye and say, where are you going when you die? I remember whenever I was invited down to Louisiana to preach one time. I had preached in this one church and the preacher walked in on one of my sessions that I was having in his Christian school and he enjoyed it so I got to stay in for a couple more classes.
But the preacher that was there in the city that got me to come to the church was a graduate of Florida Bible College and he wanted me to speak on a few things which I did and I remember that he had a couple of people that he wanted me to talk to and so he invited me over to this house and I sat down and I talked to this one kid and he trusted the Lord. He said well you got to talk to my brother.
So we got a hold of his brother. And I talked to him, he trusts the Lord. And I didn’t know it, but they were twin brothers. Twin brothers, they look exactly the same. And they had a restaurant chain called Don Seafood. You ever go through Louisiana on number 10? You can see the sign Don Seafood. They got them down in Shreveport. They got them in Bait and Rouge, and they got it down in New Orleans. And you can see the sign Don Seafood.
Well since I led both of them to the Lord they both was running a seafood restaurant and They wanted me to come to their restaurant and they was gonna treat me and Betty to all different kinds of crawdads I don’t know what they call them crawfish or whatever But we call them crawdads and you find him in most creaks and They had him 18 different ways you could eat a crawdad and And died some of them, some of them you pull off the head and suck the juice out of the brain and Just really good stuff.
They’re really good But he the one guy he told me says I I want I want you to talk to my my all my workers almost So he got all those workers in there and he says everybody stopped working. So everybody stopped working He said everybody into the room. They brought him into the room And he told me said I want you to tell them what you told me you believe that You never know when you’re going to get an opportunity to leave.
Get one. And all of a sudden he said, I want you to talk to everybody in here. So he brought them all into the room and turned me loose and said, give it to him. So for a half an hour I gave the gospel, gave an invitation, had some people trust the Lord. And I thought it was fantastic. So the one brother found out what I did. So I had to do it for him too. There was always a competition.
These two brothers are identical and they are competitive. But anyway, what I want you to see here, 1 John 5, 13 in your Bible, it says, these things have a written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God. It is important for people to know that they can have eternal life. Now keep us in mind.
What is so important about going to heaven? Don’t you think about this? What is so important about going to heaven? You don’t go to hell. Think now if nobody does anything, nobody witnesses, nobody does anything. You don’t carry no track, you don’t do anything, people are going to hell. So when I used to witness, and I used to have this one lady that came out there to our church in Colorado, and I said, well, I had five people trust the Lord, and she’d come person up to me.
And she says, now, you ought not say you led him to the Lord. The Lord did it, and you ought to give all the credit to the Lord. Now, I knew what she meant, but she also understood what I meant. It’s kind of like this guy one day, and he was driving down the field and trying to get this farmer down here to become the church and tied because I know the farmer made a lot of money to be tied while he gets a lot of money in the church.
And he says, look, look at this farm that you’ve got here. Look at all these animals. Look at what God did for you. He says, you ought to see this place when God had it all by himself. He said, it was torn, trees, shrubs, everything everywhere. He said, yeah, God did it, but God did it through me. God didn’t do it by himself. When it comes to soul winning, God doesn’t do it by himself. That’s why he says he wants labors, he wants people to go, talk to, so forth.
And you are instrumental in keeping people out of a literal place. Call hell. Otherwise, there’s no sense in doing all the things that we do. There’s no sense in sacrifice. Why should we want to care about getting on a radio? But if there are people out there and they do not know how to have eternal life, well, that’s one of the main reasons for getting on so that we can at least tell them. So there’s a reason, but you gotta believe that people are lost and that they’re going to hell.
Look at the next little statement there. I believe in hell because God says it exists and Jesus spoke about it more than He did about heaven. He created it and described what it’s like in Luke 16. He says, it’s a literal place of eternal punishment. Now I want you to look there in the book of Luke, look in Luke 16. And as you read Luke 16 on the subject of hell, think about what he’s saying. How would you describe hell?
Look how Jesus described hell. He’s talking about a literal place and listen to how he describes it. And this portion of scripture on a burning your mind, now this is not a parable. It’s not a parable. It’s not a made up story. This is a true story. He names a particular person. See in verse 19 of Luke chapter 16, there was a certain rich man which was clothed in purple and fine linen, ferred sumptuously every day. There was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid in his gate full of sore, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table.
Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. So he talked about a certain rich man, what he did and talked about Lazarus and named him and says what he did. where he was at and then about the dog. It’s not a made up story. This is a real story, true story. Now get what he says. Verse 22, it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels in Abraham bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.
Both died, but the angels took Lazarus into Abraham bosom. In verse 23, and in hell, and I get this, talking about the rich man that died, died without the Lord. He died in the season verse 23. In hell, he lift up his eyes. Now his body’s in the grave. Body’s in the grave. That means that you have, see God has eyes, but he don’t have eyes like we do. He don’t even have to have a body. He’s a spirit, but God has eyes.
God can talk. God can see. God can hear. He said, he that made the ear, shall he not hear? He that made the eye shall only, he not see. So God is a being, has form, But it’s in another realm that we have not been able to see. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I’ve never seen heaven, never seen hell, but I believe it’s true because it’s in the Bible and God tells us and get what he says in verse 23.
In hell, he lived up his eyes being in torments, see it Abraham, a far off and Lazarus in his bosom, cried under under Father Abraham, saying, have mercy on me and sin, Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. for I am tormented in this make believe flame.” What does it say? In this flame. So is there flames in hell? The Bible says so. Was he tormented? The Bible says so. So as you read these scriptures, you can find out a lot about this unseen world where people are going to spend eternity.
And he makes the statement verse 25, but Abraham said, son remember that thou in thy lifetime, receive it by good things likewise, lack of evil things. But now he is confident, thou art tormented in thy lifetime. In thy lifetime, now we’re talking about after this lifetime. So this is our lifetime, but there’s a time coming when this lifetime is going to be over and there’s a new world and you’re going to be in a new place in a different place.
That’s why it’s so important for you to understand this and to believe this. All right? Usually a A person who does not believe in hell does not believe in heaven Ask him if they do then informed them that only through the Bible. Do we learn of heaven and hell? If one is true, so is the other Number seven God would never send his children to hell. I Remember this was a line that was used by a Jehovah’s Witness. I was knocking on doors one day and Jehovah’s Witnesses told me says sir Don’t you believe the Bible says yes, but don’t you believe that God loves his children?
I said, yes, ma’am, I believe that. She was setting me up, but I wasn’t prepared, but they didn’t get me away. She says, do you think that a wonderful kind loving God would cast his children into a fire? I says, no, ma’am, he wouldn’t, and he doesn’t. that’s one of their main openings on how to get into your home to have a Bible study. And they use this, maybe if you had a fire in your fireplace and you had a child and you loved your child, would you cast your child in that fire?
And a parent would say, of course not. We’ll need to work God. Can we come in and share with you and tell see they don’t believe in hell. They don’t believe it’s a hell. And you and I, we say, we believe there is a hell. Then that teaching alone is the reason that we want to get people to trust Christ as Savior. So every person we get to trust the Lord to go to heaven is a person that doesn’t go to hell.
So that’s why it’s so important to keep this in mind. All right, look at number seven. The first part of it, you are so right none of his children will ever be cast into hell. But you do need to have maybe an explanation on on two that he will send to hell and cast into hell. The next statement, tell them that the Bible teaches that God will cast the angels into hell. He says, for if God spared not the angels that sin but cast them down to hell and deliver them into chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment, he’s also talking about the judgment that God’s going to bring upon the world.
And then the next judgment upon the world itself and upon the people that are lost. So that’s why it’s so important for you to not. I don’t know what God won’t do to the Christian, but what He will do to the angels is going to be cast in the hell, and also the lost people are going to be cast in the hell. Look at the next statement. Tell them that the Bible teaches that God will cast the lost into hell.
He said, and whosoever, that means anybody. See, this verse is similar to the one liked in John 3, 16. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believe Him, whosoever believe Him, believe it should not perish. That means go to hell, but have everlasting life. That means go to heaven. So who still ever believes goes there and who whoever does not believe the Bible says here, whose server was not found written in the book of life.
That’s the Lamb’s book of life cast into the lake of fire. Now, Betty’s dad explained these verses to me like I’ve told you many times when I was 18 years old. And these verses And his talking to me the way he did is the reason that years later, I still have that as my foundation and the main motivation for my whole life. That’s still the reason. Do you know why I want to have a basketball team so kids can play basketball?
No, it just gives me a chance to get them to come to church. It’s leverage. I’m just being honest with you. Ain’t that right? It’s leverage. And some of them know that, is that I get to make you come to church because if I didn’t, you wouldn’t come. And I want you to come because I want to teach you something. And then when we have a basketball practice, I always start with what, and what, and what? Always start with prayer, always in with prayer.
I get a chance to say a few more words. It’s only an opportunity. I don’t care anything about that basketball team. It’s only an opportunity. It’s a door. It’s a way to spend some time with the kids. what I enjoy. I enjoy spending time with the kids. I enjoy it. I love it. I’m kidding that much about playing basketball. I just didn’t watch y’all do it but it’s an opportunity to spend time with the kids. I don’t mind you know Tim and John you know working with the team.
I love it. I like it. I like it after I get through and some kid comes up and asks me a question. I get the answer is question. I drive on I love it. It’ll sit down in some girl company. She got a question about something. I enjoy like that week trying to teach her why you should do right. I want to do that. I like that. I like it. I want to affect your life for eternity. Not just this little lifetime we have right here.
And so the only thing you can do that is you’ve got to spend time in people’s lives. Some people don’t I want to get into my life. I do. I like that. I want to get to know people. Spend time with you. But anyway, back to your notes here. Get this one. Yes, God says he will cast the angels that send and those that reject Christ. But no scripture, you’re the underlandess in your notes here. No scripture teaches that God will cast his children into hell.
Will God ever send one of his children to hell? No. Once you’ve trusted Christ as your Savior, no child of God from that point forward can ever go to help. God can never send His child to help. He fathered you and you are perfect because you’re born of God. God is perfect. He had no sinful nature. He cannot pass a sinful nature onto His child. The sinful nature you have was passed on to you in your flesh from your Father, not God.
So the new birth, when you trust it, tries you’re born of God, the new birth born of God, God didn’t have a sinful nature. He had a divine nature. That’s why now you have the Holy Spirit that lives within you, and the Holy Spirit within you is having a God like nature, divine nature. So God can’t never see you have because the new birth seat can’t send There’s nothing you can do in the future that could ever send you to hell That’s grace.
That’s the best news. I ever heard my life Because if you stop a thing about it if a man could lose his salvation We would If you could lose your salvation because they’re doing something wrong you have You’re already lost You ain’t got a ghost of a chance if you can get saved and then do something wrong to lose it. You’re not lost it You didn’t keep it one eye out of a second nothing you can’t you can’t save yourself.
You can’t keep yourself safe That’s why this is such good news here. Now look at the next statement He says what he means means exactly what he says He loves us with an everlasting love it’s not his desire that anyone perish. Look in 2 Peter 3.9. 2 Peter chapter 3 verse 9. These are simple verses that you maybe have heard a thousand times, but you need to underline these verses in your Bible. Underline all the verses that I end bold here, you put them in your Bible and you underline them, and then you memorize those verses.
Memorize them. If you can’t memorize all of them, we’ll work on a couple of them. But spend time with the Bible memorizing Scripture. I remember when I first went to Bible college, I said, I didn’t memorize Scripture. I didn’t even know the books of the Bible. I barely had enough knowledge in others, no test one, no test one. But I didn’t know that until after I was 18 years old because I didn’t know that.
But I remember we had a PE class and every day we go into PE class, you had a memorized verse, you memorized verse, sometimes two verses. Well, that’s okay, but you had four or five classes every day. You had a memorized verse, favorite class. So you’re memorizing, you know, five, 10 verses every day, every day. Well, it came time for an exam. And Ray Stanford says, um, these are the verses that I want you to memorize. He gave us a list of all the verses that we had from the very first day of school to the last day before the exam.
He required us to know every verse that he’d given us. There was over 100 verses, 100 verses. And I had to memorize over a hundred verses for this. I’m working a full-time job. I worked 12, 13 hours a day I was going to school full-time. I averaged two and a half hours of sleep a night That was my average for the first two years two and a half hours. Think about it And I never fell asleep in class And I’m trying to find a window.
I had time to memorize all these verses before an exam and not anything of that the next day we had another test in 1 Corinthians and we had over a hundred verses in that class. So now I find out I’ve got over 200 verses to memorize in two days. Have you ever memorized a verse? You know like a camp but the next day you don’t even have any clue that verse or where it’s found but you can do it But for that moment, yeah, you try it with 100 verses.
Did you know what? Rowed down every verse in order from Genesis all the way through the revelation that I had to remember all 100 of them. And while I was on the job, well, I was on the job running a laminated machine, I had my verses and I’m trying to memorize verses. And I had to get to where I could, I didn’t want to lose no work. I want to put out the same production that I was doing before.
So I created a few things on this year laminate machine. It did a pretty good job. They even gave me a little bonus one time and but anyway, I memorized all hundred verses one night. I Got a 98 the next day. I’ve missed something. I don’t know what it was The next day I had the other tests over another hundred verses. I memorize all hundred and he may only ask you three or four verses You just don’t know which ones and yet you can fail the whole exam because you didn’t memorize those verses So you had to memorize all the verses because you know which words you’re gonna ask Isn’t that cruel?
Cool, but it’s fun and you can memorize the word of God. I want you to memorize the scriptures Second Peter chapter three looking verse nine the Lord is not slack concerning his promise as some men count slackness But as long suffering that means he suffers long toward us Not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance to a change of mind God wants every person that changed their mind and trusts the Lord. And he talks about before this how he overflowed the world with water and the next time he’s gonna burn it all up by fire.
But he says God is patient. Why is God waiting 2,000 years? Because more people born, more people have opportunities to hear the gospel, more people trust the Lord, more people go to heaven. You see a lot of more people go to hell too? I know. But God, I guess, is looking at the end result of how many more people will actually be in heaven. No, he says the road to destruction is wide, broad as the way, but the road that leads to life is narrow and few there be that find it.
That means that there’s a good possibility. There’ll be more people in hell than there’ll ever be in heaven. But it is so important for you to know Christ is Savior, love the Lord, and love the lost, and realize that we need to be patient, and we should not be willing that any person should perish. Just think for this moment. Here’s the Bible. You read this verse. God is not willing that any person should perish. Do you want to be like the Lord?
If you want to be like the Lord, then you should not be willing that any person should perish. You shouldn’t want any party to perish. When he makes the statement in the book of Timothy, it says that God says that he wants everyone to come to the knowledge of the truth, that every man may be saved. Then if you want to be like the Lord, then that frame of mind, see, is the permeate your thinking. You should want every man to come to the knowledge of the truth.
You want everybody to be saved. So that means there’s not one person you want to go to hell. You want everybody to go to heaven. Because you’re learning how to think the way God wants you to think. So important. Look at the next statement. The scripture that I got here in italic, he that believe is not condemned but he that believe is not as condemned already because he have not believe. See, people are already lost. They’re already condemned. There’s nothing that you will say or do that’s going to condemn anybody.
They’re already condemned. You’re not sending people to hell. They’re already lost. God can use you to get them to heaven, but He doesn’t use you to get them to hell. They’re already going there. But God may use you as a tool to explain to an individual how they could have eternal life. I was up there in Hammond, Indiana one year back in 1970, two, three, four, and five. I went for five straight years. And I watched the youth director, get this, I watched the youth director at Hammond, First Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana.
His name was Dave Hiles. He was 17 years old. And their youth grew. He ran about an average of about 800 on average Sunday, 800 teenagers. But they had high days of 4 and 5,000 teenagers. That was 30 something years ago, 32 years ago. That’s a lot of teenagers, ain’t it? It’s kind of like I’ve told you before. This rooster kind of got lost and he was going down the road and he went into this other farmer’s yard and that farmer had some ostriches in his fence area there.
But he walked in there and he saw the eggs. He saw those great big old ostrich eggs. Man he beat a path that down the road. He went in there and told those other hens. He says, look, I know y’all are doing a good job. Again, you ought to see what they’re doing down the road. Sometime you think you’re doing a great job till you see what somebody else is doing. I remember when I went up there one day, me and Al Sacker.
We got there in time to go sewing with some of the teenagers. And the problem was that so many of their teenagers, they knew the Roman road. They knew all the scriptures like it. They know them, but they didn’t have that little tool with a wallet illustration. They didn’t have that. And so we were taking around a couple of kids and they would go to this door and then another door and it’d come back and their head was hung low and I I said, what’s the matter?
He says, they wanted to get saved, but they didn’t want to pray. They wanted to be saved, but they didn’t want to pray. They didn’t know what to do with them. Because they’re the only way of leading somebody to lovers to get them to pray. So I turned around in the seat and I said, look, can I show y’all something? I said, you already know the scriptures. Let me just show you a tool. And I showed them a little while ago in Straits.
And I said, man, that is fantastic. You’ve been listening to Bibleline, The teaching ministry of Calvary Community Church in Tampa, Florida with Dr. Ralph Arnold.
