Esther knew that she would have to go to see the king, king because Haman had got the king to pass a law that would kill all the Jews. And yet she knew that she couldn’t go see the king unless he summoned for her. And if she did go to see him, he would have to hold out his scepter. That means that she could come on in and she would be spared. And so she even though she was the queen, that she was a Jew.
And Haman’s decree would have killed her, Mordecai, and all the Jews in the land. So things weren’t going too good. So she went to go see the king and when she went to see the king, he says, what’s the Metapoxy? He says, I’m not feeling very well. Her countenance was not, you know, exciting and glorious and thrilled. And he says, what’s wrong? She says, well, I got a problem, but I want to have a banquet for me and you and Haman.
Just as three, and she said, I’ll fix it. She wanted to Haman to be there when she tells the king what he wants to do. Now Haman on the other hand, he thought that everything was going great for him. He says down here in verse seven, then answered Esther and said, my petition in my request is, if I have found favor in the side of the king, and if it pleased the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do tomorrow as the king have said.
Then when Haman forth that day, joyful with glad heart, but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he stood not up nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai. Now, this is hatred. He hated this man because Mordecai wouldn’t stand and pay homage to him, because after all, Haman was a great man. But Mordecai didn’t worship men. Mordecai worshiped God. Mordecai wouldn’t bow to anybody.
So somebody was upset because you defied me. And some people just hate others because they don’t honor them the way they think they ought to be honored. Don’t you know who I am? So he says in verse 10, “‘Nevertheless, Haman refrained himself. “‘When he came home, he sent and called for his friends “‘and zerush his wife. “‘And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, “‘and the multitude of his children and then all the things wherein the king had promoted him.
And how he had advanced him above the princes and then servants of the king. Bull was he one proud man. I mean, he was riding high. He was somebody. Well, but he’s had a problem. In verse 12, Haman said more over, Yay, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared, but myself. Look who I am. I’m somebody. And tomorrow am I invited unto her and also with the king.
Yet all this availith mean nothing as long as I see Mordecai, the Jew sitting at the king’s gate. He said, I can’t stand that man. I hate that man. Now this man, and it calls him, he is so filled with hate. It blinds him. It doesn’t matter how much he already has. Here’s a poor old Jew sitting at the gate doesn’t honor him. And what does he want to do? Not just to this one Jew, to all of them.
He wanted to kill all of them. Over Jews. Because one guy didn’t pay him attention. Now, I know you’re not, you’re not Haman, but did you know that somebody can mistreat you and not give you the honor, then so far that you think they should? And you’d be surprised how you can fit with hatred so easily, so quickly. Now, you talk about why are you depressed? If you get down and you’re depressed, you start thinking, why am I depressed?
Why am I so down? Why am I so discouraged? And you might find out because you’re not impressed with God. You’re not impressed with His will. So you’re depressed because of yourself. You’re depressed because of people. You’re depressed because of circumstances. Everything is not working out for your honor and your glory. You see, if you were to reverse it and say, I want to do whatever it is for God’s honor and for God’s glory. So as long as I give God the honor and the glory for whatever happens to me, What happens to me?
Does it really matter? It’s whenever you want it to be to you. And then people don’t honor you and they don’t praise you and they don’t exalt you and they don’t bow to you. You know, this is what causes such a rebellion among people because everybody has a will. And most people do not like to submit their will to anybody. This is what’s destroying marriages across this country because the woman doesn’t want to submit to the man. the man doesn’t want to submit to God, then nobody wants to submit to anybody, and the kids don’t want to submit to the parents, because all they see is rebellion and more rebellion.
And then you wonder why so many people are depressed. They’re down, they’re discouraged. And this is part of the reason why. So he says in verse 14, then says, your rest of his wife and all his friends on him, let a gallow be made of 50 cubits high by 75 feet high. And of tomorrow, speak down unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged on it. Thou didn’t go thou in Mary with the king into the banquet. And the thing, please, Haman, and he caused the gallows to be made.
So he’s already counting his chickens before the hatch. He’s already built in the gallows. He hasn’t even got permission from the king yet. So now he’s all cheerful. Why? Because of how he’s thinking. And he was down because of how he was thinking. You see, when you’re happy, it’s because of what you’re thinking and when you’re sad, because of how you’re thinking. So is how you think very important. It is very important. People that are really depressed usually bring it upon themselves.
Now, like I said, there’s times whenever it could be medical reason. It could be because of non-sinful reasons. And so as time goes on, I would like to maybe cover more of these things. But I want you to get this because it’s so important. Chapter 6, on that night, could not the king sleep. He commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles, and they were read before the king. Now isn’t it amazing just to happen to not be able to sleep this night?
The night before Haman and Krenestor was going to come into a little banquet. And so here’s the king, and he said, no, he can’t sleep. So what does As you do, he gets out to the old records and starts reading the books. And lo and behold, he reads in there where somebody had saved his life. Somebody saved his life and he hadn’t done anything about it. And all this time was spent. Look what he says there in verse two.
And it was found written that Mordecai had told of Vindantah. He says, and to rich, two of the king’s chamberlands, the keepers of the door who sought us lay hands on King Herhasaurus. And the king said, what honor and dignity has been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servant that ministered unto him, there is nothing done for him. Well, though, that’s a shame. So the king finds out, hey, there’s a guy in the kingdom that did something for me, saved my life, and nobody’s done anything for him.
So what is he going to do? He’s going to ask Haman. Haman, what should I do for the man that needs to be honored. Oh, he thinks it’s him. So the king says here in verse 4, and the king said, who is in the court? Now Haman was coming to the outward court of the king’s house. To speak unto the king, to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him. And the king’s servant said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court.
And the king said, Let him come in. So Haman came in. The king sent unto him what shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honor.” Now Haman, thought in his heart, to whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself? So well, I’m really going to pour it on thick. This is what you ought to do. And buddy, did he eat those words? You know what I like about the Lord? has to have a sense of humor.
This is funny, serious but it’s got a little sense of humor to it. So what should I do to somebody to honor such a man in verse 7 and Haman answered the king, for the man whom the king delighted to honor? Well let me count the ways. Let the royal apparel be brought which the king uses to wear. And the horse that the king rides upon and the crown royal which is set upon his head and let the king ride upon him.
this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes that they may array the man with all whom the King the light of to honor and bring him on horseback through the streets of the city and proclaim before him, thus shall it be done to the man whom the King the light of to honor.” Well the King said, hey, that’s a great idea. That’s a wonderful idea. In verse 10, then the king said to Haman, make haste, take the apparel and the horse, as thou have said, and do even so to mortify the Jews that siteth at the king’s gate, let nothing fail of all that thou hath spoken.
Wasn’t he excited about this? You talking about how to crawl fish? He hates this guy and he had opened his mouth and what he had said, see God can take the wickedness of man and turn it around to honor his own. Don’t worry about what people say about you. You just do right. You just be faithful. How would you have liked to have the part of being Mordecai at the gate?
And not to have anything. And yet he has his name written down in the Word of God as a great individual and People to read about him for all these years Who would have ever thunk it? And here you are you might not think your life is too important and it might be that for one main thing in your life One main deed a one person that you touch You know it’s just kind of like that man where Peter and John and you know they was kind of walking along and they went into the beautiful temple there and lo and behold, there was a man there that had problems.
He had walked in 38 years. Silver and gold have I none but such as I have give out thee in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. Now wait a minute, that man had been there for 38 years. Why hadn’t he been healed by Jesus, Jesus had to come that way a lot of times. Well, why wait all that time? Why didn’t he do it? But for some reason, he was passed over for such a time as this.
And it talks about a blind man that was blind from birth. He said, why is he like this? What sin hath he done? Was it his mother or his father? He says it wasn’t because of anybody’s end, it was because of the honor of the Lord, the glory of the Lord. You see, he was going to show somebody something, the power of God, and he needed a blind man. And there happened to be a blind man who was at the right spot at the right time, and God healed him.
And it became a story, a testimony, because he had just talked about, I am the light of the world on the light of the world. This is you’re not the light of the world, you bear record of yourself and your record is not true. He says, when you put me on the cross, my father will tell you who I am. And when Christ was hung on the cross, God the Father told who his son was. He said, I am the light of the world.
He hit the main switch of heaven and all the lights went out. He said, told you. So here you have the man has to be honored. So in verse 12, Mordecai came again to the kings gate, but Haman hasted to his house. And here’s a couple things you need to underline in your Bible. Morning and having his head covered. Why was he mourning? Why wasn’t he glad for this guy? You see, it’s one thing that reason you should not be jealous in jealousy that leads to depression.
When you’re filled with you, remember these are sins and a lot of the sins of the mind, you’ll find those written in the book of Galatians in chapter five of, in the book of Colossians in chapter three, there’s sins of the mind that causes great depression. And when you get depressed, you’d be surprised what it’s gonna do to you. Did you know that his depression cost him his life? And his son’s lives cost him an awful lot, didn’t it?
It did. And so he says here in verse 13, Haman told Zarish, his wife, and all his friends, everything that had befallen him. Where when nothing really has happened to him? Nobody’s really done anything to him. All this is built up in his own mind. You realize that you can build things up into your mind as somebody did so. Nobody’s wrong, this man. Who did something wrong to Haman? Did Mordecai do anything wrong to this guy? Not really. He didn’t do anything wrong to him.
So what’s he upset about? Most people, if they really think things through, are making mountains out of Moheel. How do you make a mountain out of a Moheel? More dirt. Just more dirt. And some people just add more dirt, more dirt, more dirt. But they did it themselves. Most people are destroying themselves and it’s an inside job. They’re on home record. They’re wrecking their own life. And it causes such great depression. It’s always wonderful. We can just always talk about the love of God and the peace and the joy.
But you see, we’re individuals and we are human and we have discouragements. We have disappointments. have despair. And if you don’t watch it, those saying can so pull you down and it can destroy your life. You don’t want that to happen to you. He says here, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews before whom thou hath begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shall surely fall before him. And when they were yet talking with him came the kings, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.
Oh boy, now he gets to go to the banquet. He’s been this die in the go-to and die and he will. Chapter 7, so the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the Queen. The king said again on the Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, what is the reputation, Queen Esther? And it shall be granted thee, and what is thy request? and it shall be performed even to the half of the kingdom. The Nestor the Queen answered and said, If I have found favor and thy side, O King, and if it pleased the King, let my life be given me at my petition and my people at my request.
But we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I would have held my tongue. Although the enemy could not countervail the king’s damage. Then King Ahasaras answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he? Where is he? That ders presume in his heart to do so. Who in the world wants to do this? Yes, who’s standing there? And Esther says the adversary, and enemy is this wicked Haman.
Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen. I wonder why. And the king rising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden and Haman stood up to make requests for his life to Esther, the queen, for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. And it just so happened, just coincident. He fell. He stumbled. Somehow he fell on the bed. Look at this. Verse 8, then the king returned out of the palace garden to the place of the banquet of wine and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon esther was.
Then said the king, will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth they covered Haman’s face. And Hervona, one of the chamber lanes, said before the king, behold also the gallows fifty cubit’s high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, stand it in the house of Haman. Then the king said hang him thereon. So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai.
Then was the king’s wrath pacified. Now the story goes on and it gets who got Haman’s house. Mordecai. Mordecai got all that he had. The Lord can take care of God’s people. Now God is going to take care of you. Be patient but be faithful while you’re patient. Don’t be found like the test was with Job. Maintain thine integrity. Don’t curse God. In the meanwhile, don’t blame God and be upset with God as though God doesn’t know what he’s doing.
If God is God and God is perfect, God can make no mistakes. God does nothing wrong. You just may not see it. And sometimes the timing just seemed like it’s way off. And that’s why there’s a verse in Psalms, the Lord helped me speedily. Speedily, it means like right now, Lord I need help. If you haven’t been there, you will. Just wait, you will. The Lord will see to it that sooner or later He pulls all the rubs after Monday.
Even He turned off all the light and He locks all the doors and all four walls sorts moving in on you. And it seemed like the ceiling is like brass and you can’t get through. And then lo and behold, there’s a ray of light. And you look down that long, dark tunnel and there’s a ray of light and you get closer and it’s a gorilla with a flashlight. And you think, just when it’s gonna be deliverance, you’re all excited.
And then it turns ugly again. And you say, well, I thought, I don’t know if I can go on, yes you can. God, grace is sufficient. That’s what he said, but you know, you can’t believe anything, he says, can you? Or can you? You can believe what the Lord says. Now, take your Bible and turn to Psalms in chapter 38. Psalms 38, the 38th Psalm. Psalms 38, look there in verse one, in verse one. Remember guilt, the opposite of forgiveness.
Let me just give you this little point here so that you understand. Remember all of us are sinners and there is a God in heaven who is the judge. So whenever Christ died on the cross, He paid for all the sins of all the world. And when you accept that payment, the God of the world, the judge declared you innocent, declared you righteous. No sin against you forgiven. Isn’t that a wonderful thing? Now sometimes we wonder why do I have to use first John 1-9?
That if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin. Wait a minute, I thought I’ve already been forgiven. He is faithful and just to forgive us of all sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So why have I got to confess again if I’ve already been forgiven? Well, we’re talking about somebody different now. For example, if I sin against Peter Amato, I can go to Peter Amato and Peter Amato can forgive me.
Isn’t that wonderful? Or why didn’t I go to you? Cause I didn’t sin against him. Now, if I was to sin against Steve, should I go to Peter or should I go to Steve? Go to Steve. And I asked him, I wronged you and what, Steve, will you forgive me? And Steve can forgive me. Well, see, he forgave me. Then he forgave me. And as I lived long enough, I potted me to all of y’all eventually. So would you forgive me?
Will you forgive me? Will you forgive me? Have you ever asked different people to forgive you? Yeah. See, whenever you were lost and you needed to be saved, it was the God of the universe, the judge, that said in the court of law, this is your guilty. And Christ made the payment for your sins. And so you accepted God, the judge for forgiveness. Now see, he’s my father. I don’t face the judge. I have to deal with my father.
And so as I live my Christian life, I sin, sometimes against my father. So I need to go to my father. Now, if I sin against my wife, I should go to my wife. Doesn’t the Bible teach somewhere forgiving one another? Well, I’ve already been forgiven, so I don’t have to ask anybody else. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. If I sin against somebody else, I should ask that person if I sin against you, I should ask you. But see, first John 1-9, that’s between me and my father.
My father. See, it’s not the judge. It’s my father. And then I might send against James. What’s his name? James. If I send against James, then I should ask James to forgive me because I send against him. So see, first John 1-9 is not for salvation. First John 1-9 is not so that I can get to heaven eventually and keep on. No, it’s because I send against my father and he says that your joy may be full, talking about the fellowship with our father.
So that’s why you’ll see in different places it talks about God, the judge or God and then he said, and our father. It’s like there’s different ones. So now as a child of God, I’m a wrong my father. So there is a guilt that in your life, because you’ve wronged your father and the joy of your salvation is not the way it ought to be. And the guilt weighs upon your shoulder. Now we know that David was a man after God’s own heart.
And so you had gone for about a year, you know, since his little shenanigans, you know. Nobody knows. There was a God in heaven and knew. And look at it in verse 1. Oh Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath. Neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. And you ought to underline these three words for thine arrows. Thine arrows stick fast in me. You see, there is a convicting of the Holy Spirit that’s like little arrows. And they will not let you rest.
They will not let you sleep. They will not let you enjoy. And they will be like something just jabbing you and keeping you. That’s why I used to talk about, you know, when somebody’s doing something wrong and they refuse to get it correct and to pray a hedge of thorns around them. So that they quickly are hurt or pricked and get back to the Lord. It’s not because you want them to suffer. You want them to get back to the Lord because you want them to have the joy of the Lord.
Look at verse three. There is no soundness in my flesh because of dying anger. Neither is there any rest in my bones because of my what? And you are underlining this. See, whenever you walk away from the Lord and you don’t serve the Lord, there’s a price to pay. It’s gonna produce a guilt upon you. And when the Lord talks about output a yoke of iron upon your neck until it destroys you, this is what he’s talking about. There’s not a literal yoke of iron that he’s, how many people have you seen with a yoke of iron on their shoulders?
You haven’t seen nobody with it yet? But there is the weight of the guilt of the sin that produces that depression and they destroy themselves. And so he says here in verse four, for mine iniquities are gone over my head. As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. My wounds think and are corrupt because of my what? My foolishness. You see, these are results, consequences because of the guilt that can take place because of the sin. And so between you and your heavenly father, the Holy Spirit is at work.
You see, he is a great comforter when you’re obedient and a great discomforter when you’re disobedient. Understand the difference?
