Take your Bible and turn to the book of Revelation, the book of Revelation. A book of revelation. Sometimes I have the downtown Bible study. And so sometimes I’ll, whatever I teach, sometimes they will ask questions and I never know where it’s going to go. So we enjoyed talking about the book of revelation. I’m kind of doing some studies there too just as well. And so sometimes I will say the same thing here that I say there. But I love the book of revelation.
And I want you to take your Bible and look there in the book of Revelation and chapter one. Revelation chapter one. You say we’re starting all over again? No, no, no, no, we’re not starting all over again. But I want to establish something. John, whom God used to write this book, was a prophet. He was prophesying. The whole book of Revelation is a prophecy. You see there in verse 1 of chapter 1, the revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave to him to show unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass.
So it’s talking about the future even if it’s a short period of time and to the brother in the course it would be the churches on down the road here after on into the future. So the whole book is a prophetic book. Looking verse 3, blessed is he that readeth and they that hear the words of this what this prophecy. So the book of Revelation is a prophecy and although God gave to John the vision, the words John is a prophet and John is prophesying.
He is teaching forth and for telling. He’s doing both. So John is continuing a prophecy that was also given in the Old Testament times to the Old Testament prophets. So go to the book of Revelation in chapter 10, Revelation and chapter 10. And look there in verse 7, Revelation chapter 10 verse 7. But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound the mystery of God should be finished or complete. As he hath, and you are on the line this in your Bible, had declared to his servants the prophets.
Now, so it’s already been done once and now he’s telling John because of what he saw. Remember what he saw and when he wrote, it may not be at exactly the same time. He wrote it but how long afterwards did he write from when he saw that I’m not sure. We believe some time around the 96 AD after Christ. The temple had been destroyed in 70 AD. So he writes about the temple in chapter 11. And you’re talking about, you know, the other one was just finished in 64 AD, when Herod rebuilt the temple.
And it took a long time to rebuild the temple, but it was finished. and now they’re destroying the temple in John’s day. Then he talks about there’s going to be another temple in chapter 11. So there’s a tribulation temple. But now notice what he says. He said half declared, that’s past tense, to his prophet, that means in the Old Testament. So John is going to reveal some things. That had been revealed in time past, but not everything understood. You remember, even when you studied the book of Daniel, it talks about many of the prophecies that are related to in the book of Revelation, but not totally understood.
So you need the New Testament prophecy to help understand the Old Testament prophecy. The reason this is important because chapter 10 is not a very big chapter. It’s pretty small in comparison to some of the chapters. And it talks about a mighty angel and a little book, a mighty angel and a little book. We also see that same relationship in the fifth chapter of the book of Revelation, when he talks about there was this book that nobody could open.
And John went because nobody was found worthy to open this book. And lo and behold, one says that the elder says, don’t try John. The line of the tribe of Judah, he hath prevailed. He Cosponsors opened the———————————————— So the Bible says that Jesus took the book and Jesus had the book and Jesus opened the book. Now here it is in chapter 10, five chapters later. Now is it possible that this could be the same picture where you have the mighty angel?
Now remembering the Old Testament the Ophonies was a pre-manifestation of Christ in angelic form and he’s still God, but he had taken upon himself the form of an angel and many places called the angel of the Lord and he is seen and does things and now we have of this angel described. Some of these characteristics looks like it must be himself. see there in verse one, and I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven. Close with the cloud and a rainbow was upon his head and his face was as it were the sun and his feet as pillars of fire.
I remember in chapter one whenever John first saw Christ, he used some of the same language and it was a description that was to him. Now we know that when the Lord wanted to make a vow and he swore, you usually swear by something greater, but there is nobody greater, so he swore by himself. So now can this angel here swear by him that created all things? And you think, well, he’s talking about somebody else. Well, maybe he’s not talking about nobody else.
Can you swear by himself? Since there is nobody that’s greater than him. Well, it might be. And if you look at some of of these things here, it says in verse 5, and the angel which I saw, stand upon the sea and upon the earth, lifted up his hand to heaven, and swear by him that liveth forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things that which are therein, that there should be time no longer, no more delay it is time for the fulfillment of all these prophecies.
Now when he says here and this is why sometimes it gets a little touchy. Well then is the is this another angel giving honor to the Lord or is this angel the Lord? Well there was only one in chapter 5 that could open this little book and the other question was I had I have a lot of questions when I get to have them on when asked the Lord. I might provoke some questions and provoke some thoughts, but buddy, I always tell the ones that I haven’t got answered.
I don’t even mention. But I want to ask the Lord, you know, a few things, because in chapter 5 is the book, the book of Revelation. And as it’s open, he’s revealing it. And so the book that he opens up is the book of Revelation itself. I don’t know. Or is it another book that people call me? Well, it’s a title lead to the earth. Well, okay, Well, what kind of a title did he have?
And is the in chapter five, that was worthy to take the book and to open the book, is this the same one here? Look up there in verse two. And he had in his hand a little book opened. Now, remember in chapter five, the Lord Jesus is the one who took the book, and he was the only one that had a right to this little book. But he says, and he said his right foot upon the sea in his left foot upon the earth.
And cried with a loud voice is when a lion roars. And when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. Seven thunders uttered their voices. And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered and write them not. Now, you know, I’m having an inquiring mind. And right off the bat, when he says, I heard these seven funders and I was about to write.
And he says, don’t write about that. Now, I want to know what was it? Don’t you have a little curiosity that says, who was he going to write? What are those seven funders that we’re not supposed to know about? So somebody look at that and they say, okay, he just says, seal that up. and not supposed to know what they are. Seal up those things with the seven thunders uttered, write them not. And yet I have a curious mind and like to know everything.
So take your Bible and turn all the way over there to the 29th Psalm, the 29th Psalm, and you need to write this course in the scripture down, write it in your notes and underline it and you’ll be surprised that you can easily forget. You can hear what I’m saying, but you know you need to really unlearn something. You need to hear it five or ten times to get it down. I could preach the same sermon five or ten times in a row and then you’ll really get it.
I won’t do that though. But the 29th Psalm, looking verse 1, give unto the Lord, oh ye mighty, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord like glory do unto his name, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” I mentioned before, I love that statement. Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. I love that statement. It’s just awesome. But anyway, verse 3, look what he says, the voice of the Lord is upon the waters, the God of glory thundereth.
The Lord is upon many waters. And it seems to say that these voices, like it says over there in chapter 10, the roar of a lion. So what was God going to say? The seven funders is something that God’s saying. It’s the voice of God thundering out something and I want to know what it was. I guess there’s enough that God has given that we ought to be satisfied with. And we always want to know what does he want me to just kind of like Adam and Eve in the garden of all the fruit They could have had they wanted the one that he says don’t you doubt one?
Well now that just Did it? Like telling the kid you can have anything in every refrigerator anything in the cabbage. Just don’t touch that jar over there Now he’s gonna find now. What’s in that jar over there? He has to it’s just that’s our nature Well look what he says here in verse 3, the voice of the Lord is upon the waters and the God of glory thunder. When I saw that for the first time, I wondered, I wondered just how many of these funders are here.
How many times do you find the word voices mentioned here? So I just looked down to it and I saw in verse 4, oh the voice of the Lord is powerful. The voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord in verse five, in verse seven, the voice of the Lord, verse eight, the voice of the Lord, verse nine, the voice of the Lord. Do you know I counted up all those voices and guess how many I came up with?
Seven. Seven. Now, as you read the book of Revelation, you’ll find out seven is mentioned an awful lot of times. Seven is supposed to be the number of perfection, completeness. Well, I wondered if these voices that God talks about are the ones that we’re supposed to know about and what is it that he was going to say, but he says, don’t say. So it looks like he’s never going to reveal what he was going to say, but I’m not sure about that.
Go back to the book of Revelation in chapter 10. in chapter 10. If you’ll notice in verse 4 when he ends up, he says, and write them not. And then he talks about the angel which I saw in verse 5, stand upon the sea, and he so lifted up his hand to heaven. And he’s swear by him that liveth forever and ever, who created heavens and the things that they’re in are, I believe that’s a reference to Jesus Christ.
But this could be Jesus Christ, giving honor and glory to himself and swearing by himself because there is none higher, there’s nothing better, there’s nothing greater. But I could be wrong. Now look where he says in verse 7, but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, now there’s a possibility in my mind as I read this and when he says these things about the seventh under and write them not but In verse 7, but, in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound the mystery of God, which I believe is a possibility, could refer to those seventh wonders that we didn’t understand.
Then they will be given or mentioned, and he’ll write about him then. Not that they would not be written forever. I don’t know. So when I saw the little word there, the seventh angel begins to sound, I took that as a clue, because he’s talking about the consummation of all the prophecies coming together. And in the last part of verse seven, which he had declared into his prophets and times before, and then he tells John, if you look down here in verse 11, and he said unto me, thou must prophesy again before many people and nations and tongues and kings.
Now, as he writes the prophecy of the book of Revelation, has this prophecy gone to all the world and people of every language? I believe so, as he writes, and what we have, we have a prophecy written by John. So I don’t see as John has to come back and prophesy again someday. But what he’s writing is a prophecy like the one that the prophets in the Old Testament talked about, but he has more and is completed and he’s talking about the consummation of all these prophecies coming together.
But what I want you to see there’s in chapter 11. Look over there in chapter 11. And you’ll notice in verse 15, because one of the keys was, it says, when the seventh angel begins to sound, then it’s kind of like, then I’m going to reveal more. But in verse 15 says, and the seventh angel sounded. There were great voices in heaven saying, the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ. And he shall reign forever and ever.
Now you know what John This hasn’t happened, but he’s writing it as though it has. It has become the kingdom because that’s the way prophecy is written. Hold your place right here and turn all the way over there to the Book of Matthew in chapter 6. Matthew in chapter 6. The Book of Matthew is the picture of Jesus Christ as the king, King as the lion from the tribe of Judah. This is where he picks his cabinet and how he’s going to rule during the kingdom upon the earth, the kingdom of heaven.
And so you have in this book many of the things of how he’s going to actually rule with the rod of iron when he’s here. That’s why he says, if somebody slaps you on this cheek, you turn to him the other cheek because he’s here and he’ll take care of it. But now if you get me on this cheek, I’m just glad I hit you back because we’re not there yet and I don’t want to take scripture out of context.
But anyway, here in Matthew in chapter 6, I want you to see this. They’re in verse 7. You see what in the world is praying, got to do with the kingdom. I’m glad you asked. Because you see, there was a portion of Scripture that many people will use as the Lord’s Prayer. Now, the Lord’s Prayer is found in John chapter 17. That’s the one He prayed. The one that’s mentioned here, our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come.
He didn’t pray that prayer. That was only a manner, a way, aRumeth. it wasn’t to be used as vain reputation. See there, he says in verse 7, that when ye pray, use not vain reputation as the heathen do. In other words, learning wrote prayers. Now that’s fine for little children when you’re teaching them how to pray. But when you get older, would you like for the pastor to read the prayer? And every week I read the same prayer? Or to, you know, it’s just a memorized prayer.
Don’t you believe a prayer out to be, you know, a talk between you and your heavenly Father. Not something that’s made up, but something that’s real. It’s just, it’s like, that’s off to be the way it is. But he says, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. So it’s not how much you say in a prayer, it’s the quality of the prayer, not quantity. It’s the honesty, the sincerity. It’s your humility between you and God.
And he says in verse eight, be not ye therefore like unto them. for your father know of what things you have need of before you ask. That doesn’t mean you’re going to get it because it says you have not because you asked us. So you ought to ask. But don’t think just the multitude of words is what gets it for you. Then look in verse nine, he says, after this manner, therefore pray our father, which art in heaven, how will be thy name?
So it’s teaching us to have the respect that we want to and talk to our Father and then bring to Him your petition. But look what He says in verse 10, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. In other words, they were always praying the kingdom would come, the kingdom would come. Now the king is here, so he’s going to set up his kingdom. But the course, as you know, the king was rejected, the kingdom postponed.
But the desire should be that I want Christ to rule here the way he rules there. I want Thy will, which is in heaven, to be fulfilled here on the earth. And if I want that as an individual, I I can’t speak for everybody else. I still can allow the Lord in heaven to rule me on earth. And I can still, as an individual, say, thy will be my will upon the earth, so that I can still do whatever it is God wants me to do, and it has nothing to do what anybody else does or doesn’t do.
Now, this is what he taught his disciples. This is how you’re supposed to pray, not the words to say, but the method, the idea behind it, the holy respect you have, my Father, I want your will to be done in me. I want your kingdom to come. And he says, and look at the very next word, In verse 11, give us this day our daily bread. That is to keep you constantly daily dependent upon the Lord. Give us this weekly bread.
Give us this monthly bread. Well, just go ahead and ask for the year. Like some people like the security, Lord, just give me for the rest of my life. God wants us dependent upon him every day. And that’s why he maybe doesn’t smile too much on giving you too much more than what you need. You see, that’s what keeps sometimes keeps a person humble. It keeps you dependent upon the Lord. If you had too much, you might not need to pray as much.
You may not need to look to the Lord and depend upon Him because after all, I don’t have to worry about it. I’ve got two million dollars in the bank. Well, life is designed to where we need the Lord. And look what he says there in verse 12, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Now, under the law, you want to be forgiven, you’re forgiven. Under grace, we forgive because we have been forgiven. But on the law, it was law.
You want this, you got to do this. So he says, this is my will and they prayed for the kingdom. They were looking forward to this kingdom. Now the church is not the kingdom. The church is not going to bring in the kingdom. Christ is not the king over the church. He can be the king but he’s called the head of the church, the head of a body. It’s a different thing altogether. So in the book of Revelation in chapter 11 I want you to go back there and you’ll notice that this is the seventh angel saying what’s going to take place and he’s wrapping it up toward the end so you can see the combination of all these things coming together and this is what he said.
In verse 17 saying, we give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art and was an art to come because thou hast taken to thee thy great power and hath reign. And the nations were angry and thy wrath is come. The time of the dead that they should be judged and that they should have give reward unto thy servants the prophets and to the saints and then that fear thy name small and great and should have destroyed them which destroyed the earth.
So this is what is coming and Whenever you read about the the seven thunders as though it comes after this And maybe the order in how he was going to do it wasn’t right. I don’t know I Do have an acquired mind But I noticed that in chapter 12 the very next things to follow are things not only new to the New Testament but was prophesied in the Old Testament by the saints, the prophets. And now here, we’re here iterated again by John and his prophecy and look in chapter 12.
And you notice there in verse 1, he’s talking about the woman, talking about the woman, Israel and how she began. And then in verse 3 and 4 it talks about Satan. Now This is also outlined here in the Old Scholfield reference Bible. And in verse five and six, it talks about the child, which is Christ. The fourth thing in verse seven, eight and so forth is talking about the archangel and Michael and the battle that takes place in heaven.
And then in verse 13 down to verse 16 talks about saying an Israel in the tribulation. Now, all of these are types or things that have been mentioned before. And now are mentioned again right after the closing of the sixth angel and his comments, or the seventh angel. And then in verse 17, the dragon says, there’s a remnant left. And this remnant is what God is going to begin the kingdom with. And they’re going to go into the millennial reign of Christ.
And so there’s going to be the small as a mustard seed. and is going to build the greatest nation in the face of the year. Now whether or not all of this, and maybe I’m seeing a lot of things that are not there, but I have a habit of seeing things that maybe not there. But I read and I study and I sometimes put things together and sometimes I don’t. And sometimes it makes sense and sometimes it don’t. But I want to to prick your mind, the where you have a desire to want to study the book and find out what might this mean.
What can I glean from this or learn from this? And it doesn’t matter sometime whether or not I get it all in the right sequence and all. But whatever it does for me, it challenges me to want to live more holy, more godly. It refreshes my mind. It It warms my spirit. I get challenged and motivated because of the Word of God. And I want to do more of whatever God wants me to do with my life. You’ve been listening to Bibleline, a teaching ministry of Calvary Community Church in Tampa, Florida, with Dr.
