Turn to the book of Amos. Amos chapter 3 page 936 and one of the church Bibles Amos chapter 3 and verse 3 There’s a statement that you’ve heard many many times to be or Not to be look how y’all knew that To be or not to be but that’s not really the right question The right question is to agree or not to agree. Oh, there’s the question. So we’re going to talk about this morning to agree or not to agree.
Now you and I know that whenever we’re witnessing to someone and we take the Bible and we show them a scripture verse that talks about how to be saved or to have the free gift of eternal life, Somebody always wants to argue with what it says and they think the argument is between that person and myself. It’s not between us. It’s between them and God. All you’re doing is showing them what God says. So a lot of times people don’t don’t like that.
So they won’t say anything against God but buddy they will attack you. Now you know lost people do things like that, don’t you? Christians would never do things like that, would they? No, see there? I knew you knew that. So in the book of Amos in chapter 3, look what he says, can two walk together except they be agreed? So it’s a good question. Between God and man, I want to ask a couple questions this morning. I I want to ask four main questions.
Now I want you to hear all four questions and the answers to all four questions. But I want you to be thinking to your own mind between God and man, how can two walk together unless they be agreed, who is always right and who is always wrong, between God and man? Now this is a difficult question I understand. very hard for most people to get this right. Let God be true. Every man alive. So you know the rest. Now it is true that God is always right.
So when he says come and let us reason together, say, of the Lord, who do you think is supposed to do the change in? God or us? Us. We’re supposed to agree with God. And God is a very reasonable God. So he wants us to reason. Now take your Bible and turn to the book of Proverbs 14. Proverbs and chapter 14. There’s several verses I want you to look at here in Proverbs. Proverbs 14, and look in verse 12, verse 12.
There is, in the Bible, a verse that says, There is a way that’s seen with right to a man until he is saved and then he’s always right. Yes or no? That’s not true. So see you’re doing very well so far. You’ve gotten a couple of questions right. Now you think it’s probably going to get a little bit more difficult as we go. It’s possible. So here in Proverbs in chapter 14, look there in verse 12. There is a way, there is a way, which seemeth right unto a man.
So you already know that there is a way that seems right. So because it seems right, it must be right. Is that right? That’s not right either. But there is a way that seems right. You agree with that? So with man, it is a possibility that it seems right, but it doesn’t end up right, because look at the results, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Most people don’t see anything wrong with sin, because most sin is fun.
So if it’s fun, it must be right, but it’s not right. It’s still wrong. And because it’s wrong, it leads to destruction. Can sin destroy your life? Can sin destroy your home? Can sin destroy a church? Can sin destroy our country? I think so. Even though people are doing what they think it seems to be right. So whenever you have an opinion on something and I have an opinion on something, There should be somewhere in the scripture that we have a biblical principle that we can hang on to.
In other words, why do you think this is right or why do you think this is wrong? What is that biblical principle found in the Word of God that you’re using as your anchor? So you stand on that truth. In truth, see, it doesn’t change. Truth is always true. There is a way that seameth right unto a man. Look in chapter 16 of Proverbs. Proverbs, chapter 16. And look there in verse 1, the preparations of the heart in man.
And the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. You might think something in your heart, but God has the right answer. But look what he says in verse 2, all the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes. So therefore people generally live according to what they really believe. If a man lives a wicked life, that’s because that’s what he wants to do. You want to live a religious life, you can live a religious life. You can live however you want to.
people do. So when it comes to the Bible and there is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but it’s not right, it just seems that way. How are you going to know which is the right way? So you go to the Bible and you study the Bible. God designed the world, God designed us, and God is given to us a manual, a blueprint. It will tell you as an individual how to live, And I’ll not to live.
So hold your place right here because I won’t come back here, but I want you to look in Psalms chapter one, the first psalm, look at verse one of chapter one. So blessed is the man that walketh not in the council of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor seteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord. So man has a way of thinking, but God says, your thoughts are not my thoughts, your ways are not my ways.
For my thoughts are higher than your thoughts and my ways are higher than yours. So God, he wants to bring us up to his way of thinking, not for you and I to bring God down to our way of thinking. So when we want to reason with God, It’s not that we’re trying to talk God into accepting whatever we want to do or be, but looking at God’s will and doing and being what God wants. It’s a total difference.
But what else he says in verse two, but his delight is in the law of the Lord and in his law, does he meditate day and night and he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bring forth his fruit in his season. His leaf also shall not wither. And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Now this is the man that wants to be blessed by God. This is the man that meditates in the world of God day and night.
This is the man that’s like a tree that planted by the rivers of water that has fruit and green leaves on his tree all the time. You will be like that, but you will not be if you sit in the seat of the scornful, if you stand in the way of the sinners, if you walk in the wrong way. See, there is a way that seems right. So you’re supposed to study the Word of God so that you can discern is your way compatible to God’s way.
How can two walk together lest they be agreed? So God wants you and I to agree with Him. So He gave us His Word and He even tells us in the New Testament, the Book of Romans in chapter 15, that the Old Testament, the Scriptures, will written a four-time for our learning so that we would be smarter than we would normally be. But now go back there to chapter 16 of the book of Proverbs. And notice there in verse two again.
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes. But the Lord way of the spirit. In other words, God knows why you do what you do. The motive behind your decisions. You see, when we want to do something, we can justify whatever it is to give ourselves the permission to do whatever we want to do. So sometimes God’s Word will rebuke us, and we don’t like rebuke. I don’t, you don’t. We are born with a rebellious nature.
We don’t like God telling us how to live. Can you believe God wants to tell us how to live? Who does he think he is? God. But we don’t want to live the way God wants us to live. I mean think life is so short There’s so much to do so much pleasure in the world Let me get at it Look out world here. I come I Used to look into that bathroom mirror and I look at myself in the mirror and I say you tiger you don’t you ever die well, Dougie There’s a God in heaven.
Did you hear about the two ants? That was down in Arizona, and there was this train track, and there was these two ants that was walking along the train track. He says, if you ever seen such a long set of train tracks, he says, I want to where it goes. He says, I don’t know. I want to where it comes from. I don’t know.
He says, do you believe in God? He says, no, I don’t believe in God. He said, if there was a God, I doubled all dare. If there’s a living God, come down here right now. See there? No God. It’s that. Train run them over. Stupid. Kind of reminds me of those two drunks that was walking down the train tracks. This one drunk looked at the other one and says, you know, this is the longest flight of stairs I’ve ever climbed in my life.
The other one says, not this long fight of stairs is getting me and sees low railings. You know, we just had several funeral, but let me just mention this to you. You know, everybody has a mother-in-law, what most people do. But they had this funeral going on, and the wife and husband were sitting there on the front row, and his open casket, and they could see her. And he was standing there looking at his mother-in-law. All of a sudden, big old tears came in his eyes.
just started to come down his cheek. She looked at him and she says, you did love mother, didn’t you? He said, no, I thought she moved. You and I can’t see God. But I can guarantee you there’s part of the song that I wrote as he called it and you can see his footsteps in the sand. Proof evidence that he’s here. God has laid down what is right and what is wrong. We may not agree with what God says but that That doesn’t mean God is wrong, just because we don’t agree with Him.
So I want you to take your Bible and turn to the book of 1 Corinthians in chapter 6. Now there’s another scripture that I want to ask your question on. Is God right only when we agree with Him? Now these are very difficult questions. I realize not all of y’all went to a Christian school, but you still might be able to pass the test. Is God right only if you agree with Him? You know the answer, and I know that you know the answer.
Look there in 1 Corinthians in chapter 6. God gave a list here. We talked about this last Sunday. So I’m not going to cover all these things, but I did want you to look at a word. See in verse 9, No, you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God, be not deceived neither fornicators nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, North-theve, North-Cavitus, North-Drunkers, Doriviler, Dorix-Storzer shall inherit the kingdom of God.
Think for a moment. If this is true and a Daltors can’t go to heaven, they’re not going to be many there. Do you realize we have had over 50 million little babies that have been aborted, murdered? What you do is you back it up. Why were they murdered? Well, they were aborted. Why were they aborted? Well, they weren’t wanted. Why wasn’t they wanted? Well, because it’s a sign of an activity that they shouldn’t have done, but they did. So they’ve got to cover it up, or they don’t like the results.
So how in the world did it get there in the first place? How did that little baby get in that mother’s womb? Sex. Now people can’t figure this out, but I’m trying to help you. Is it because it was with married people who had the right to sex? Was it because of sex outside of marriage? Think for a moment. Does it matter what the world thinks? But especially God’s people ought to think right and agree with God. Does God say in His word, adultery is wrong?
Yes or no? God says it’s wrong. No legislation passed by man can make it right. What God says is wrong. There’s another word here that’s called effeminate. Means men acting like sissies. Today they want to call a transvestite. But just because people want to do it, does it make it right? Now they don’t agree with God, but we are not supposed to agree with them. We’re supposed to agree with God and hold the same view that God holds. And when God says something is wrong, it’s wrong.
You see the last part of that there are abusers of themselves with mankind. This is dealing with homosexuals. Sotomy. It’s wicked. It’s wrong. You see, they want it to call it as an acceptable lifestyle. I’ve had people say, you ought not cover it and talk about it. stuff like that. It’s in the Bible? Am I supposed to teach the Bible or not? I’m supposed to do like Paul, teach the whole counsel of God. Whatever’s in this book, I’ve got the freedom to teach it, and I will.
But I want to try to tell you what God says about him. And just because there’s people in the world that doesn’t agree with God, don’t agree with this Bible, don’t agree necessarily with the preacher, I’m still going to say, this is what God says. This is still what’s right. Or I’ll just get some scissors and I’ll cut that part out, because that offends them. And then I’ll cut this part up because that offends them. And I’ll cut this out.
After all, I won’t have anything left. I won’t even be able to teach salvation by grace because that offends people. What would you have left? Nothing. So we either stand on it, say, this is the Bible. It’s the Word of God. We just finished reading this we believe. Do we really? This is the book. This is the Bible. This is the authority. Tells us what we’re supposed to think. Now why you right here. Look there in 1 Corinthians in chapter 7.
Look in verse 2. Verse 2. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, that sex outside of marriage, let every man have another man, and every woman have another woman. See, it doesn’t say that. Let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. This is how God says to solve the problem of that burning passion that you have. We call it a sex drive. This is what God’s taught. This is in the Bible. I’m not to run from it or be ashamed of it.
So if God’s Word says this is what you do. This is what’s right and this is what’s wrong. Now, wouldn’t it be neat if everybody went by what God says and agree with God, but they don’t agree with God? They don’t agree? Did you know just by me saying this, this is offensive, isn’t it? Everybody’s not in harmony with this truth, is it? But did God say it though? Is it still in the book? So we try to go by what the Bible says.
Look at another verse, look in verse 9. But if they cannot contain or control that burning passion that they have within them, he said, let them marry. But today it’s an acceptable lifestyle, acceptable to who? It shouldn’t be to the believer, not to those that know Christ is Savior and love the Lord. It is not an acceptable lifestyle. He said, as long as they don’t bother me, did you know that God can chase in this whole nation because of the sin that’s tolerated?
Do you believe that? How can two walk together, let’s say, be agreed? Do you agree with God on everything or just some things? You pick and choose where you stand with God, or do you just back up and realize that you You have all human sinful nature, and God is perfect and righteous and just. Are you willing to just set that aside and approach the book? Lord, tell me how to think. Tell me how to reason. Tell me what’s right and wrong.
Why? Because there is a way that seemeth right. I mean, after all, if two men love each other. I mean, they love each other. Whose against love? I don’t care if they do love each other. It’s still sinful and still wrong. If teenagers, well, we love each other. Oh, well, God says, do not commit for an occasion unless you love each other. You sure I just can’t control myself, then get married. But it is not an acceptable lifestyle. And one of the biggest problems that we have in this country, it’s not because of what people do, it’s because the preachers behind the pulpit don’t warn the people anymore and tell them, this is right and this is wrong and this is what God says and this is where we ought to stand.
And most preachers are a bunch of cowards and ought to get out of the pulpit. Because they’re afraid. You see that last part of that verse? for it better to marry than to burn. So God says yes. And if you get married, I think marriage is a wonderful thing. But in I’ve been married almost 52 years, I understand a little bit about problems of marriage, raising kids, grandkids, the why complicate your life because to live in sin is destructive.
It destroys you as an individual. It destroys the home and it destroys the church and destroys the nation. Thank for a moment. Let’s say for example, you have been living for 30 years, Think in the way you think, doing what you wanted to do, living however you want to live, and then you come to church, you trust Christ as your Savior. Do you think you automatically know how to live the Christian life? Don’t we understand that people have all these various ideas and humanistic philosophies running around in their little brain?
They still got them there. And many times they’re judging whether or not they should do this or that or this is right or that’s wrong. And they’re still doing what the scripture says. There seem to be a way that’s right unto the man. So it’s still singing to be right. But that doesn’t make it right just because you’re saved. And now maybe you love the Lord and you want to serve the Lord. doesn’t mean that all those philosophies that you had and what you used to accept doesn’t mean that it’s still acceptable with God.
You see growing in the Lord is learning more and more how to think the way God thinks. That’s how you mature. Or you can stay a babe all your life. Never grow. Never learn how to think the way God wants you to think. And if you don’t think right, you don’t live right. It affects the counseling that you give to your husband or your wife or your kids or anybody else that you meet. That’s why we want to study the Word of God so much.
Not that we can go around with a little halo around our head and try to be a holier than thou, but don’t we have a certain responsibility to God to say, this is right, this is wrong, so that whenever you did it, I was wrong, I was wrong, I shouldn’t have done that. Oh, it wasn’t that bad. No, it’s right or wrong. Most people don’t really get it. Now, take your Bible and turn to the book of Job. The book of Job, way back there in the Old Testament, the book of Job and chapter 10, Job and chapter 10.
Job chapter 10, now you know he was a man who had a hard time. He had a bad day. We don’t know how long that bad day lasted, but it It was pretty bad. He lost 10 kids at one time. His wife told him, says, why don’t you curse God and die? His friends turned against him. He lost so much, lost a lot of his wealth, sought markets, crashed, everything. But anyway, in Job chapter 10, I want you to look there in verse nine, looking verse nine.
Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hath made me. I want you to know what Job said, thou, notice the thou, thou hast made me as the clay. And will thou bring me into dust again? Has thou not poured me out like milk and curdle me like cheese? In verse 11, thou hath clothed me with skin and flesh and hath fenced me with bones and sinew. You’re the one that made me. You, thou have done all of this. You gave me this body, the 139th Psalm where David writes, it’s beautiful.
You ought to read that whole Psalm. He says, because I was formed in the belly of my mother, and thou have seen all my parts before they were totally formed and all that. It’s just a wonderful Psalm. And it says in verse 12, Thou hath granted me life. Thou hath granted me life and favor. Who made me, God? What has he granted to me? The right to life.
