We pray that you will enjoy our commitment to the clear gospel of Jesus Christ, and that today’s concluding message of this teaching will be a blessing to you and your family. Look what he says here, singing in your hearts to the Lord. Now you need to check your music. If your music is not right in honoring to the Lord, can you do whatever you want? You can do whatever you want, but look down in verse 25. Hey, that doeth wrong shall receive of the wrong which he had done.
Does God tell you what kind of music to listen to? Well, listen to it. Look up there. Look in verse. Psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord. So does God’s word tell you? It tells you. Now you can do whatever you want. And if you disobey, you pay the price. You don’t know what it’s going to cost you though. I don’t have a clue. I’m not God, but whatever you do, do it all for the honor, the glory, the praise of Christ.
You say, well, does it say that? Well, I’m afraid it does. You see them verse 17, and what so ever you do in word or deed do all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God and the Father by Him. So whatever it is, you ought to be able to thank God for that music. Get God for that message in that song. If you can’t thank God for it, maybe it’s not thinkable. It’s a new word.
Maybe it’s nothing you can thank the Lord for. Maybe you shouldn’t be listening to certain things. Do you believe that the God wrote this book that says you’re now seated in the Heaviles and says you have been crucified with Christ and risen with Christ and seated in the Heaviles And it says, set your affections on things above. Do you think that there is a lot of things on this earth that you might set your affections upon? Could music be one of them?
Is it possible? Did you know that as the music goes, so goes the nation, and as the music goes, so goes the church? And as the music goes, so goes the home. And as the music goes, so goes the individual. Do you think it’s important what you listen to? You judge. I’m to be speaking as unto wise individuals that are grown up and mature in the Lord, and you can discern. You don’t need somebody telling you what you can and cannot do because you can walk with God on your own.
Well, remember, everything you violate, you’ll have to have a reason to justify your disobedience. Did you know, as he talks about here, and you’ll see that in verse 18 and 19 and 20, when he gets into individuals, you think about it. Is it one of the biggest things that people have problem with is yielding to authority? We don’t want somebody telling us what we can and cannot do. Do children have a problem with somebody telling them what they can and cannot do?
Well, do you think it’s possible for wives to have problems with their husband telling them what they can and cannot do? Do you think adult men have a problem with somebody telling them what they can and cannot do? There’s a possibility everybody’s got the same problem. We want to have our own way. And because we want to have our own way, we have trouble submitting. It means in most cases we want somebody else’s position. The kids, they want the parents’ position.
They want to be the authority. If they don’t see a thing wrong with it ought to be all right because they don’t see anything wrong with it. I don’t see why I can’t. Okay. So they want the authority. They’re not satisfied where they are. Is it possible for a wife to want the husband position of authority? I say this in Fear and Trembling. This is what Paul was talking about. He wasn’t talking about all those people throwing stones at him and you know, raking well, he was talking every time he talked about women.
was in fear and trembling. I think that’s probably why he was in fear and trembling. But is it possible for women to want to usurp the husband’s authority and become the authority? Do you think that adult men, those that know the Lord, want to usurp authority from God and determine what’s right and wrong for themselves and not God? Isn’t it possible for everybody to be in a place of every billion. Let me tell you that. We just had camp and we had different speakers and everybody doing a lot of different things.
But did you know every person in camp from the kids to the adults? We even had little bitty kids and they were all little angels. Were all in angels? No. All right. Those that worked with them knew that they probably had a few little rebellious kids. So even children want to see how far they can go. But wasn’t it wonderful to have all of these that worked with those little kids? Did you know at one time probably somebody made this statement, I just love little children.
Man, I just hope God lets me work with little children. That’d be the greatest joy in my life just to work with little children. And then you get those little children. And God granted you your request. And there you are. Did you know it wouldn’t take much to say I wish I’d never seen these little kids. Did you know somebody’s always wanting to the other? You know everybody has a response. Do you know that God looks at it this way?
Everybody got a responsibility and God’s going to reward you in heaven based upon what you did with what you had. But sometimes you don’t do a good job where you are because you’re thinking about what you don’t have instead of being thankful But what you do have. You see, sometimes you marry to that man. But then you’re looking at all those others thinking about, look what I could have had. This one woman, she told this man, she says, I wouldn’t marry you if I was the last woman on earth.
Says if you was the last woman on earth, I don’t know if I need you. You’d be surprised how easy it is for us to get bogged down. wanting something you don’t have. If you are married, there’s a verse for you. If you’re not married, there is a verse for you. Wherever you find yourself, are you faithful where you are with what God’s given to you? And you can trust that God up there that you know and love and you walk with here, loping up doors and hill closed doors.
You just walk with Him and trust Him. worry about it. Now looking verse 18, remember this letter is going to be read in the church. Paul sits there in prison, he writes out this letter by the guidance of the Holy Spirit of God. And then he takes this letter and he takes it to the church there and they read it in the church. Evidently there’s men there, there’s women there. And evidently there’s children setting there. The whole family is setting there and they’re reading this in church.
What if this was being read the first time anybody’s ever, we got a letter from the apostle Paul. Oh, this is exciting. Boy, this ought to be great. I can’t wait to hear this letter. Wives, wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband. What? He don’t know what he’s talking about. You see, back in those days, you know, there’s a lot of things that’s different than what it is today. Husband love you wise, husband didn’t have to love his wives.
They didn’t have to worry about it. They were an object that did the work for you and had kids, and that was it. They didn’t have rights. You know it was Christianity that exalted the women. What he says here in verse 18, wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands as it is fit in the Lord. talking about as it is fit in the Lord. It means it fits into God’s plan. You see, the woman needs to understand God has a role for you.
It’s a holy role, a godly role. And this is when God says, wives, set your affections on things that are above. Seek those things that are above. You want God’s will for you. Thy will be done in my life and God says, okay, wives, submit yourself unto your own husbands. Now, it doesn’t matter what the E.R.A. says. It doesn’t matter what the women’s fib says, the feminists of the world that don’t matter. They don’t have a say so in this.
They don’t have a voice in this. God has spoken and a woman needs to yield and submit. Now, If the woman chooses not to do this, whatever her reasons may be, you cannot make a woman submit to the authority. If I let you beat her up, you know, had a nine tails or something. But God says, wife, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, and then down in verse 25, but she that doeth wrong shall receive of the wrong which she hath done.
I thought I’d just change to just a tad, but you understand the point. Wives, there is a consequence, a bad consequence. If you do not submit yourself to your husband, the way God wants you to, nobody can make you. You will not have a happy home if you don’t do it. You may have a husband that is a mouse, that is meek and weak. But that’s not the way God designed it. God expects the man to be the man, to be the leader.
Lot of time, men are not. I know that. But make sure that it’s not because you destroyed the man. When you boss your husband around and nag your husband, like this one person says, he said, I’m not calling my wife a nag. But we have to go to the blacksmith shop to get her shoes You have to be very careful. When you rebel against your husband, understand you are rebelling against who? You’re rebelling against God. Who is the one who told you to do this?
God. All right, enough about the women. Oh yeah, there’s one about the husband. First 19, husbands do what? Love your wives. Be not bitter against them. I wonder why I had to say that. be not bitter against them. Why should I be bitter to my wife?” Did you know that when a woman rebels against her husband, it hurts the man’s ego. A man likes to feel he’s macho in charge. I’m the head of my home. And whenever a woman, especially she does it publicly.
Shames are dishonors her husband by, no, I will not. Do it yourself. And bosses her husband around. You know, she hurts her husband. And when the husband gets hurt, he gets bitter. He gets bitter. And he gets bitter at the wife. Now, this is why sometimes by not yielding, you won’t get the love and the understanding and all that thing that you might want. You’re destroying your relationship between you and your husband. Husbands, love your wives. And be not the one because it’s so easy to do so.
That little frail thing that God gave to us, they’re a woman. And sometimes we don’t always treat them the way we should. But the woman’s, well, her countenance. is supposed to be like looking into a mirror. If she’s happy, everything’s happy. She’s not happy, nothing’s happy. And you want the woman to be happy. That’s why the Lord says, even when a man takes a wife, don’t even work for the first year, just stay home and make her happy. Just after a year, she’ll want you to go back to work.
But you see, God knows what it takes. God understands women, men, very seldom do. It takes their whole life of trying to figure them out. Now, they have what they call hot flashes. Me, I just have power surges. And sometimes you know you just can’t figure out why they do what they do. They have moved. They’ll be happy one minute and they’re crying. They say, what’s the problem? Nothing. And they don’t even know they did it. You know they did it.
So, wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband, because it fits into God’s plan, it’s the way God wants it. That doesn’t make you less of a woman. It doesn’t make the man less of a man if he told her, love your wife. I believe all men should. But see, love is a commitment. There is the role of the husband. When a man gets married, he commits himself to the woman to follow the role God laid down. And I will be kind of a husband.
God wants me to be because I’m going to let the Lord be my umpire. He’s the one that’s going to rule me. So it’s not like the man doesn’t have anybody telling him what he can. Every man is under the command of God. He is the head. And look what else he says here, children, obey your parents in all things. For this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Now that’s in the book of Deuteronomy. It’s also in the book of Ephesians in chapter 6 and verse 1.
Chilling obey your parents on the Lord for this is right. This is the first commandment with promises that your days may be long up on the earth and so far the husbands are fathers. Do not provoke your children to wrath. Don’t provoke your children. See there in verse 21. Fathers provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. See, the greatest thing you can do is always trying to figure out ways to encourage your children to serve the Lord.
Encourage your wife. Wives encourage your husband. And people get beat on enough by everybody else. One of the happiest places of all is should be the home. The homes should be the most happiest place on earth because that’s where you and your wife dwell. and there ought to be peace there. It ought to be the place where the Lord dwells. He dwells with you and in you. And it ought to be the way God wants it to be. Wouldn’t it be great if everything was just ideal?
It’s not, but because of sin. But at least if a Christian knows what God wants him to do, you know when you’re not doing the right thing and you can correct it. But look up here, husband, love your wife. What if the husband doesn’t? But we’re looking at verse 25, but he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done. There’s a price to pay to all those husbands that don’t do what God says do. What about fathers and the children?
Provoke not your children to wrath. Don’t promote, promote, no, provoke them to anger. Why? Because God says in verse 25, he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done. See, God’s telling us what’s right. He’s telling us what to do. You and I can decide whether or not, I don’t know, I don’t agree with that. It ain’t gonna work. It ain’t gonna work. I mean, time to have people say, well, that ain’t gonna work for me.
You just don’t know how bad it is. God does. God says, try His way. Do His way. You’d be surprised how this can heal. This can heal between families, you know, with the kids and husband and wives. If people just try it, you might like it. But what about in verse 22 servants obey in all things your masters according to the flesh? Those that are over you, not with eye service as men pleasers, but in singleness of heart here in God.
You see that’s the same as today of people who go to work, you got employers, you got employees. Who’s ever over you if you’re under? It doesn’t matter. Do right. You see those are in place of leadership have a responsibility and they’ll answer to God. Those that are under somebody’s authority, well, you’ve got a responsibility to do right, and you’ve got to answer to God. There’s a God in heaven that’s keeping the books, and he sees everything, and he says, down in verse 25, they hear that doeth wrong shall receive of the wrong which he hath done.
Well, that’s a good verse. Keeps coming up, doesn’t it? Keeps coming up over and over and over again. But look what he says now in verse 22, the last part of it, but in singleness of heart. And there’s two words are, fearing God. You know, the wife ought to fear God. That means I have a high, holy, reverential respect for God. Husbands, you better fear and respect God. This is more important. This is over Dr. Spock. Or anybody else.
This is more important than that guy that’s on radio all the time out in Colorado. Some psychologists. He’s not your authority. This is your authority. This is how you raise kids. This is how you raise, you know, do your home. It’s the Word of God. And look what else he said. Verse 23, you ought to underline this verse in your Bible. Whatsoever you do, do it hardly as to the Lord. You’re doing it as unto the Lord. When wives obey or submit themselves to the Lord, themselves to their husbands.
Their donut is unto the Lord. When husbands love their wives, the way they should, their donut is unto the Lord. Pretend like your husband is the Lord. Pretend your wife is the Lord. How would you treat her if she was the Lord? Scary, huh? What if kids honored their mother and father like my mom and dad, they’re the Lord? What they talk that way or is there no fear in their eyes? Fear God. Respect what God has to say.
And then he says in verse 24, knowing you ought to take the word knowing here and underline it or draw a circle around it. Because if you know something that helps you, you know this. Knowing that of the Lord. Get this. If I do what God says to do, I’m going to get something, knowing that of the Lord, you shall receive.
You shall receive. That in verse 25, but if you don’t, you’re going to receive too, right? But in verse 24, it says, knowing of the Lord, you shall receive the reward of the inheritance for you serve the Lord Christ. When I say, do you want to serve the Lord? You say, yes, I want to serve the Lord. Love your wife. That’s serving the Lord. Obey your husband. That is serving the Lord. Not to is rebelling against them. That’s rebelling to God.
He said, you just don’t know my husband. I don’t have to know him. I didn’t marry him, I don’t care. He says, in this part of the verse, for ye serve the Lord Christ. But in contrast to that, in contrast to receiving the reward, you may have to face some chasing in your life. He that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong, which you have done. There is no respect or purpose. It doesn’t matter who you are. See, everybody has to come to the decision, do I believe God?
Do I believe His word? Do I believe it enough that I’ll trust it? If I really trust what God’s word is saying, that if I do what God says do, Regardless of what the other person does, God promised he’s going to bless me. I want to be obedient, and I’m going to obey him. And when you come to that decision, that conclusion where you don’t fight with it anymore, you don’t argue about it anymore. It’s a closed deal. It’s done.
Then when he says up there in this verse 15, let the peace of God rule in your heart. The peace of God will rule. You’ll have the peace of God, because you’re not fighting anymore. You’re not fighting God. You’re not doing it your way. It’s going to go God’s way. And I’m just going to arrest and trust Him that God’s way will work. So love one another. God, I’m blessed. Let this hand represent you and me. No wallet represents sin.
We all have sin upon us. God says that He loves us. He hates our sin, but He loves us. And He says, for us to pay for this sin eternal separation from God in hell. But God loves us. Wants us to go to heaven and to go to heaven, we have to be perfect. Just as righteous as God. And none of us are perfect. We’re all sinners. We’ve all come short of God’s perfection. And because of all this sin, we can’t get into heaven.
Then God says that He would do something for us that nobody could do. This sin represents Jesus Christ. He is the Lord, God in the flesh. He came into the world because He loves us. Because Jesus Christ, who had no sin, did not have to die. He took our sins, and because He took our sins, He had to pay for our sins. He died and came back from the dead. And God says, if you and I, if we would believe that He did it for us, He would give us as a gift ever lasting life.
We get to go to heaven on what Jesus Christ did. That’s the best news in all the world. Don’t you like it when there’s time when I give the invitation and you hear God bless you and you and God bless you, yes God bless you and God bless you. Because you know there’s somebody there that here, did you know there’s a lot of people that are probably watching by internet and will never know, will never hear it. Every once in a while, I get some nice letters and I read them on the radio broadcast on Friday when I go live.
But this little church right here, the faith of Calvary Community Church, these people is heard around the world. We’re making an impact. We’re influencing people. I think it’s a great opportunity that God’s given to us and we need to be faithful to it. That’s why even when there’s not many people here Maybe on a Sunday night or a Wednesday night. And maybe all of you trust that Christ is your Savior. I’m still going to do this for the reason.
There may be somebody listening that’s never seen it before. And I want everybody to understand that God loves them. Christ died, paid for all their sins. And all they have to do is believe He did it for them. He puts that payment to their account and they get to go to heaven what Christ did. In that good news. Let’s pray, shall we? Every head bow and every eye closed, no one looking around. If you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior, I know that most of you here, maybe all of you here, have done so.
But if you’re watching by internet, I hope that what I’ve said made sense to you. We talked about a lot of things, but the most important thing is, where will you spend eternity? Have you trust in Christ as your Savior. If you haven’t, would you do so? Would you do it right now? In the quietness of this moment, just right where you are, just say something like this to the Lord. Lord, I’m a sinner. I’ve done things wrong. I don’t deserve to go to heaven.
I’m not perfect. But I know that you love me and you send your son to die and pay for my sins. And right now, the best I know how. I’m trusting Jesus Christ as my Savior. And friend, if you will do that just that much. God said, He would save you. It means save you from hell. You don’t go there. He gives you eternal life. The payment He made is put to your account. There’s no sins for you to pay for.
He’s already paid for them. Our Father, we thank You so much for the free gift of eternal life. And Father, You said according to Your Word, because we’re going to heaven now, we ought to set our affections on things that are above to seek Your will in all things. That even though one day They will be there, but until then I will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Help us Lord to live the way we should.
Help each husband, each father, each wife, each mother, every child. Help us to love you as we ought to. In Christ and we pray, Amen.
