I was told that you’re supposed to preach a sermon like this. a good beginning, a good ending, and keep those two ends as close together as possible. Sometimes we have a bad beginning, a bad ending, and they’re as far apart as possible. And that’s when everybody goes, let’s sleep in there. So hopefully you’re not going to go to sleep on me tonight. But in this verse, he says in verse 61, because he preached a sermon that was hard for them to understand.
That’s why he says, is that a hard saying. So in verse 6 to 1, when Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said, that does this offend you. In other words, my sermon that I preach, you got offended. Do you believe that there are times when I have preached a sermon and somebody gets offended? The pastor hurt my feelings. He said something. He did something. Or somebody else did something. People always got reason and it accuses to not serve God.
But the devil see is always working. It works on your mind. And so you’ve got to be very, very careful. He goes down through here and we’ve covered this before. And he looked at his disciples and he makes his statement to them. He says, will you also go away? And Peter says, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe that thou art the Christ, the Son, the living God. and he got a medal for that one.
But not everybody believed the same way. And Jesus knew who it was that did not believe on him. Look at the next one. In John chapter seven and verse 43, John chapter seven verse 43. As Jesus goes through here and he’s talking to them, he makes his statement in verse 43. And so there was a division among the people because of him, a division among the people because of him. In other words, there is a reason why they were divided.
You see, some people will be formed, some people will be against Him. Jesus, when He was here, understand this, could not please everybody. Now if there’s anybody that should be able to please everybody, it should be the Lord. And He couldn’t do it. He couldn’t do it. Do you think you are going to please everybody? Do you think after you’ve been married for a while that you’re going to please your little darling all in every area? No. Do you think that little darling of yours, I mean the husband’s gonna please this little darling?
No. Or she’s gonna please it? No. There’s always conflict. Do you think because of your knowledge, your wisdom, you know perfectly how to deal with every teenager? Let’s say you don’t have to worry about your own. You don’t have a clue. You’ve never been so challenged in all of your life is when you try to deal with teenagers. So you don’t have the answers to deal with every person, every individual. Accept it. You are not all powerful, all wise, all knowing you’re not all present.
You’re just not. We’re sinners. And everybody else is too. Yet we demand perfection out of others. And yet for ourselves, we kind of, you know, bend a little bit. We’re more patient with ourselves. But anyway, the problem is in verse like 46 says, the officers answered, never man spake like this man. Nobody’s ever spoken like this man. Jesus was different yet, but not everybody heard him like everybody else did. Some people could see him and say, this is the Lord.
Other people, they heard him. This is the Lord. And And there’s some, he’s just a heretic. He’s just divisive. He’s a troublemaker. He’s mad. That’s all these things that went on. Look in John chapter 9. John… In chapter 9, now it could take this whole chapter, but I can’t do that. But I know this. It says in verse 16, therefore some said of the Pharisee, this man is not of God because he keepeth not the Sabbath. Other says, how can a man that is a sinner do such miracles?
And there was a division among them. Always problems. And did it cause any problem? Why yes, because there was a man that was blind. And Christ gave him sight. And so they wanted to know about this miracle. They found this blind man that now can see and says, hey, who did that? The blind man says, I don’t know. All I know is I once was blind and now I can see. Well, who did it? I don’t know. He didn’t know who it was.
Well, it wasn’t long before it didn’t find out. So it says they’re in this verse, and it just looked here real quick there in verse 32. Since the world began, was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind? It’s never happened before. Jesus did something, never been done before. He was gone where no man has ever gone before. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. They answered and said unto him, Thou was altogether born in sins and thus, Thou teach us, and they cast Him out.
They didn’t even want to hear the testimony of the guy that was born blind, and they said it was because of your sins. You were blind because of how your sins. Well, isn’t that a question that came up at the very beginning of the chapter when they He made this statement in verse two. And his disciples asked him, said, Master, who did sin this man or his parents? That he was born blind. Jesus answered, neither have this man sin nor his parents, but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
In other words, God has a purpose for a person being blind. I don’t have to try to figure out what it is. Sometimes you can say, well, I know what it is. You may know and you may not. It’s not important. The reason is you believe God has a reason and that God can be glorified out of a person’s blindness. Did you know that Bobby might be able to see better than some of the people sitting in this church?
It’s got an outside. When you talk about, can you really see? And that’s why he talks about there in chapter seven, some other stuff, but we won’t have time to look at it. So he looked back there and he says there in verse 35, Jesus heard that they had cast him out. And when he had found him, he said to him, does thou believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
So it’s not just a matter of just believe. No, you gotta believe on him. Who is him? He said, he that speak of the, I’m the guy. It’s me. And he says, Lord, I believe. Cause he said there in verse 37, thou have both seen him and it is he that talketh with thee. Jesus claimed to be the Son of God. And verse 39, and Jesus says, for judgment, I am coming to this world, that they which see, not, might see, and that they which see might be made blind.
Now he’s that’s an interesting statement, but see what he’s shown is this, people who claim to be able to see, they know how to get to heaven, all this religion that they’ve got. Well see, they’re in reality, they’re blind, but they don’t know they’re blind. So when Christ comes and He reveals truth, now they know there is a difference between what they’re saying and what they believe and what the truth is. But people don’t want to believe the truth.
So they become blind and people who are literally blind will be able to see. When I was 18 years old and before I trusted Christ, I was blind. I did not see. But then I saw the light. We sing that song, I saw the light. I understood that Christ died, paid for my sins, and by trusting Him I could have eternal life. Now I see. Now I see. So when Christ came into the world, He knew that some people are going to be blinded by Him and some people are going to see.
And some people are going to stumble over Him and to others who become their foundation. So it’s an interesting thought that He puts down here when it is what takes the whole book of John just first by verse. Look at the next statement where he makes the statement there in Matthew chapter 21 we’ll just mention this because you’ve been there before and you’ve seen it. And Matthew 21 and also in John chapter 2 where Jesus goes into the temple because he is outraged.
Outraged that they have taken the temple which is supposed to be a house of prayer. He says you’ve turned it into a den of thieves. In other words the money changers in there, changing money from one kind into another kind and cheating the people and just for the purpose of profit. Which the Lord was against. And so it made him mad so he took some course together and he dove it through the tables and chased him out of there.
You said, well, did he sin? No. That is the righteous indignation of Christ, just like God himself that takes judgment against sin. And so he can do that. And it’ll let you know that God does not tolerate it in our lives either. And that’s why he says you’ll be scourged. Every son of God will be scourged. It’s more than just a slap on the hand, talking about a severe beating if he has to give it to you. The next verse he talked about, he called King Herod a fox.
He says, go tell that old fox. But some people say, well, you shouldn’t call him things like that. Jesus did. And he even mentioned names. Have you ever noticed that the Apostle Paul mentions certain people’s names of what people have done and how they overthrew the faith of some, it’s in there. He was also accused of being in league with the devil, with the devil. That’s what they look at. Look there in Mark chapter 3 real quick. Mark chapter 3 and verse 22, the reason he says this is because look at all the wonderful things that Christ did.
And he had healed and they And they said, well, he just did that by the power of the devil, power of Beelzebub. In other words, he said that he did it by the power of the Holy Spirit, so that everything he did, he did it by the power of the Holy Spirit. So therefore, if they don’t believe that, they’re crediting what Christ did to some other force, some other power. So in verse 22, and the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, he hath Beelzebub, And by the Prince of the Devils cast He out devils.
And He called them unto Him and said unto them, How can Satan cast Satan? And if a king be divided against itself, that king cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. So Satan is not cast in out Satan. And if Satan rises up against himself and be divided, he cannot stand, but have an end. No man can enter into a strong man’s house and spoil his goods, except he first bind his goods, except he who bind the strong men, and then he will spoil his house.
So Christ must be strong enough to bind Satan in order to cast out the demons. Christ is stronger and more powerful. But that’s not really the point of all of this. The point of this is whenever he said, all sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, blasphemies, wherewith, whoso are they shall blaspheme, but he that shall blaspheme against the holy goes, hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.” Now, how can it be in danger of eternal damnation if he can’t be forgiven?
Or if he’s committed, so we’ll call the unpardonable sin. If he committed the unpardonable sin, if it’s unforgivable, well then how come he say, you’re in danger of it. But if you’re in danger of it, it means it’s a possibility you might not go. No, which way is it? If you commit the sin, then you ought to go there because you can’t be forgiven. Well, see, the only thing that we can come up with that makes any sense, and I believe from other Scripture, he that believeth on him hath everlasting life, and he that believeth not shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides upon him.
The unpardonable sin is simply the sin of unbelief when you are an unbeliever, you are in danger of hellfire and God will not forgive you of all of your sins until you believe. So when you believe, you are forgiven and once you’re forgiven, you’re no longer in danger of eternal hellfire. And they were crediting what Christ did to be Elzebub instead of the Holy Spirit. And see the Holy Spirit is the one that creates that new birth. So you must believe what the Holy Spirit tells you about Jesus Christ.
And if you don’t believe that, then you cannot be saved. So all of the people who have trusted Christ as Savior can never be guilty of committing the unpardonable sin. The unpardonable sin is that sin of unbelief when a man dies so is he. As the tree falls, So that’s where it lays. You die lost, your state lost, unforgivable in the next life. It’s not forgivable now because you’re dead and because you will not believe. If you believe you have trusted Christ as Savior, you get to go to heaven.
And if you don’t trust Christ as Savior, you do not get to go to heaven. Clear as a bell. Now you’ll notice in the next scripture I wanted to show you this in John chapter 7 in verse 20 Jesus was accused of being demon possessed. See, why is all this important? Look what they said against him. So when he makes the statement, lest you become faint and weary in your own mind, there’s somebody else that went before you and he says consider him which had endured such a contradiction of sinners.
against himself. This is what he went through. You read in the book of Corinthians what Paul went through. And when Paul says I was beaten with stripes and I was stoned, I was left for dead, and I’ve been in peril and all of a sudden, that’s to show you look, this is what served in the Lord’s above. And then some people will quit because, well, the preacher hurt my feelings. So you can deny and not serve God for the rest of your life because somebody hurt my feelings.
That is totally sick. Do you realize that if all of God’s children would all serve the Lord because they all love the Lord? Do you realize that churches wouldn’t be able to hold all of them? Haven’t you noticed how many Christians there are everywhere you go? But very few are faithful in serving God. And you know what? The few that are, the devil is after you. So that’s why I say if I was going to compromise, I should have started a long time ago.
For somebody like me and Al, it’s too late Al, we’re too close to the finish line. No sense stopping now. Mine’s will just dig in and give it all we got. When I get to heaven, I want to be able to see the old smut face himself and I want to see him with a big old black iron. The Lord said, Yankee did that. See that old bloody nose and double gut. Yeah, I did that. Ow, hell. We got him.
But you’ve got to have some desire that you just love a good fight. Serving God is the biggest, most enjoyable fight any man can ever have. And the enemy, I knock him down and he won’t quit. He gets back up and he attacks over and over and over again. The battle is real and it’s difficult. And it’s what we have to go through. You can’t get out of it. So anyway, here in the next script you’ll want to read to you.
John chapter 15 and verse 18. Now he’s just talked about, you are my friends. And I call you friends and I have chosen you. See when we talk about, you know, God choosing you, God has chosen to save those that believe. That’s all that means. God has chosen from the foundation of the world to save everybody that believes. If you believe, he chose to save you, that belief. Though that do not believe, then he chose not to save those who do not believe.
But when you come to serving the Lord, God has chosen all of his children to serve him. And still, you have a choice. You can disobey him. So it’s not that I don’t have a choice. I do have a choice. I can choose to trust them. I can choose to serve Him or not to serve Him. So he makes a statement here. He says in verse 16, you have not chosen me but I’ve chosen you and ordained you that you should go and bring forth fruit.
So these are already believers. They’re not choosing to be saved. He’s choosing the believers though that are saved that are in the vine to bear fruit. And he says that your fruit should remain. The fruit that we bear is other believers because they get eternal life and they live for all eternity. So he says they’re in verse 18, if the world, if the world hate you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. Now think about what it’s in.
Don’t let what somebody else do against you, that hate you, despise you, put you down, try to humiliate you. So what? I know that the God who created the heaven of the earth loves me and your hate doesn’t bother me. Now I want everybody to love me and the reason because I’m such a loveable guy. And it says, I love everybody. I don’t know why everybody don’t love me back. But people don’t always respond the way you think they will.
And sometimes when they pat you on the back, they’re just trying to find a place to put a knife. So you gotta be careful. But it says, if they hate you, they hated me first. And then verse 19, if you were of the world, the world would love his own. But because you’re not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. Therefore the world, hey, if you, you don’t belong here. We should not live like the world, act like the world, talk like the world because we’re not part of the world.
We are part of another dimension. We’re children of another citizenship. We are from heaven. We simply live in this world and we’ll be here for a while and we’re just strength. and pilgrims just passing through. And God says that He got so much for us. John chapter six, verse 66, you don’t have to look there because it’s just talking about, he was so misunderstood, he was unpopular and rejected by the majority. The majority rejected him. The last thing here, the religionists sought to stone him and eventually crucify him.
Look at John chapter 10, John chapter 10 and verse 28. John chapter 10 verse 28 makes this statement there in page 11 29, and I give unto them eternal life. Not charge you, but I give. What? Eternal life. They that he gives eternal life to shall never perish. That means that in the future I can’t perish. But see God doesn’t give every eternal life to everybody. Now did he pay for all the sins of everybody? Well yes. Does that mean everybody’s going to heaven.
No. Because they have to believe on him. He gives the eternal life to whosoever believe it and not everybody believes. You study all of this and it says they believe not, they believe not, they believe not, they believe not. If you don’t believe, you don’t get eternal life, you don’t get eternal life, you don’t get to go to heaven. So we make a statement here in verse 29. My Father which gave them me is greater than No man is able to pluck them out of my father’s hand.
I and my father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone them. Now why are they going to stone him? Because he’d been a bad boy. No. What did he do wrong? He just simply claimed that he was God. Well that’s blasphemy. If I was to claim that I was God, that’d be blasphemy. But the problem is he was God. So he’s not blaspheming. He is who he claimed to be. He was the Lord. So anyway, it does get very, very interesting.
When you read the Scriptures and you see how God worked in the life of his own son. And like we said before, God only had one son and he was a missionary. We are his children and I like looking at it this way, let the lost men do with his life what the lost man can do and let me a child of God do only what a child of God can do. I don’t expect the lost man to try to win the world.
I don’t expect lost people to try to get people saved and become missionaries and evangelists and preachers. They do, but they just blinden people. I’m talking about God’s people ought to be sold on the idea, I am God’s child and I want to serve the Lord. And if you understand it, that if I choose to serve the Lord, everybody’s not going to be for you. They’re not going to be for you. You’re going to have problems with your family.
You’re going to have problems on the job. You’re going to have problems with kids. You’re going to have problems with husband and wives. And you name it. You have problems. That just comes with the territory. And that’s why a lot of people can’t handle it. The battle is real and the battle is raging and it’s very difficult. That’s why you got to stay close to the Lord and keep your mind where you think right. So that you don’t allow the things, the negative, so destroy your desire and your purpose, your goal for serving God because it will get to you sooner or later it gets to you.
It wears you down. And so for the last 53 years, I’ve had a lot of things happen and I don’t expect it to get any better between now and the time I go home. I don’t tell my going home, the night I’m home I go home. I mean home home. It can get a lot worse because that’s just the way it is. There’s a battle raging look up here. This hand represents you and me. The wall represents Sam, we all have sin on us.
loves us. H. R. sin. Yes, He loves us. And to pay for this sin is eternal separation from God. Inhale. And since we’re all condemned. Then that means that we need all of it need a Savior. See, God loves us and wants us to go to heaven. And to go to heaven, we have to be perfect as righteous. God and none of us are perfect and that’s righteous. We’ve all come short of God’s perfection. We cannot save ourselves. We cannot earn our way to heaven.
This hand represents Jesus Christ. He’s the Lord, God in the flesh. Came into the world because He loves us. Hates our sin because our sin separates us from the Lord. So when Christ came, He died and took all the sin of all the world. And he came into the world to save all those that believe, and not everybody believes. That’s why he says, he that believeth hath everlasting life. He that believeth not shall not see life, but the wrath of God abided upon him.
So only those who believe that when Christ died for them receive eternal life and get to go to heaven whenever they die. the most important thing for anybody to ever hear. So though we love our gospel, we love our message, there’s somebody who doesn’t. And there’s a lot of people that despise this gospel that we present. And that’s why I’m thankful for the opportunity that God’s given to us to not only present it at church, but also in all the ministries that we have and especially on the internet because there’s a lot of people that watch.
We have approximately six thousand or so on Wednesday night that watch our broadcast. Ain’t that awesome? When you stop and think about it, that’s why it’s so important. Let’s pray, shall we? Every headband, every I close, no one looking around. If you’re watching by internet right now, there’s nothing that you need to do. You don’t have an hour to walk, you don’t have a card to sign because you don’t have to. You don’t even have to raise your hand.
All you need to do is right where you are. Just be honest between you and the Lord and say, Lord, I’m a sinner. And I believe Christ died and paid for my sins. And I will trust Him as my Savior right now. And if you’ll do that right now, right where you are, God said He would give you the free gift of everlasting life. Before you turn off that computer, you can say, I know I’m going to heaven because tonight I trust as Lord is my Savior.
Friend, I hope that you do. Our Father, we thank You so much for this time together, for blessing us, for giving us that free gift, and realizing as Your children if they hate us, it’s because they hated Him first. And Father, we’re going to go through some very trying times, and there’s always problems of all kinds. But You said You’d never leave us, never forsake us. Father, will your children for all eternity help us to be found faithful, have clarity of mind to think correctly on all the tribulation, the trials and the testings common when people are against us in such contradiction of sinners.
Say one thing and don’t believe it. They know they’re lying. Say things are heard just to be mean, just to be unkind. Father, we just thank you so much that we have someone that we can look to that never failed. Thank you for it in Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
