I want to talk to you about something that I think is very, very important. I’m going to be going to the book of Isaiah, but we’re going to kind of take a lead to our First of all, and go all the way over there to the book of 1 Timothy and chapter 2. 1 Timothy chapter 2. Now I have an umbrella. We even have some for sale. And the reason that we have some umbrellas is so that people can keep the rain off of them.

Foolish is the man that leaves church without his umbrella. And you know, they’re the purpose for an umbrella so that you don’t get wet. So everybody should have a good umbrella that you can trust in. You know, now you might say, is there anything wrong with this umbrella? Well it all depends if you’re just looking for some shade from the sun and one on the cage, you know, you know, beam of sun shan upon you. What I want to talk to you about is very serious.

And that is what we call the chain of command. Everybody know what a chain of command is? How many of you know what a chain of command is? How many of you don’t know what a chain of command is? Okay, we have about two women in here. We’re going to have to go through this whole sermon for just but then. But it simply means that God has an order to authority. So a chain of command is to either impose discipline over his jurisdiction, or you will find yourself having to have, you know, self-discipline.

And if you don’t have self-discipline, it’s hard for you to yield to authority. So everyone is to study the word of God so that you could be self-disciplined. If God governs and controls every individual, then there would be no rebellion. Right? I mean if the children obeyed the authority over them, then they wouldn’t be rebellious. If all the women obeyed their husbands, they wouldn’t be rebellion. If all the men obeyed their authority over them, God, they wouldn’t be in rebellion.

But let me ask you a simple question. The truth of the matter is, do we have any signs of rebellion in our country? Do we have rebellion in the government? Do we have rebellion in the church? What about rebellion in the home? What about in the schools? You know, it seems like everybody has a problem with this thing called authority. Who is over all? There is a statement that many people make, but the apply it to salvation is totally wrong.

If he’s not Lord of all, he’s not Lord at all. No, the Lord is Lord whether you like it or not. Whether you submit and you don’t, he’s still Lord. And you can obey him and receive his blessings disobey him and he’ll beat the Torah out of you. He’s still in charge. God’s not off the throne just because you decide to do wrong. God is a good God, a merciful God. Now, what do you think about this idea? I got an idea.

Why don’t we just put all the children in charge of everything? It’s pretty much that way now. Children just about run everything because you listen to the president and if you listen to those in Congress, we got to do this for the children. You ever hear that? We’re doing this for the children. That’s why we’re piling up all this debt for the children. God bless the children. And I know that there was times where we wanted to have, you know, the equal rights amendment where, you know, the women are equal to the men, they can vote and go contrary to the guys and all that kind of stuff.

But what if we had it where the children were equal to mom and dad in the areas of authority? You see anything wrong with that? What would you think would be wrong with that? You say, well, they probably have some holes in their wisdom. Now, when a man studies the Bible and grows up and matures, he’s supposed to be able to have wisdom. That means he’s able to protect himself. It means he has standards for himself, principles by which he lives by.

So he studies the Word of God to gain the wisdom that he’s supposed to have so that whenever He leaves mommy and daddy and he’s on his own. He is now under the authority of God and therefore he has wisdom. But if a man has holes in his umbrella, he doesn’t have much protection. So what you want, you want to have, a beautiful umbrella here. Why look at that? Florida Bible College. Boy, you can get a lot of wisdom there.

I’ll tell you right now. And, Calvary Community Church, my goodness, look at the wisdom you can get in there. So what we do is that we want people to have an umbrella without holes in it. You know the Bible talks about bags that people put their money into, but it has what in it? Holes in it. It means you’re putting it into a pocket with holes in your pocket. You feel like that’s what happens to your money sometimes. So you have two kinds of wisdom.

You have divine wisdom of God, and you have the human wisdom of man. So when the man is out there, and he’s supposed to, you know, the Bible says, he did find that the woman find it the good thing. Well, it all depends on what kind of a woman you find. depends upon the quality of the man that’s looking. I had a man tell me one day he says, I preach it, would you pray for me? So about what?

He said, I want to find the perfect wife. I thought, now that would be a total waste of time. For several reasons, one, that they don’t exist. Two, if she was the perfect, she would deserve the perfect husband. And I thought, he ain’t it. But tell me honestly, have you met the perfect man? If you have, he’s already taken, right? Well, anyway, I told my wife one day, you’re a lucky thing. And she looked at me and she said, you know if it wasn’t for me, he’d be going to hell.

It was my dad that led you to the Lord. She’s right. She’s right. What did I say? But take your Bible and look with me there to the book of 1 Timothy and chapter 2. in chapter two. I want you to look at this very quickly. In verse eight, as he talks to hear about praying for the people in place of leadership, pray for those in leadership in chapter one, in chapter two, at verse two and three, and so forth, I’m through there, because they need to have God’s direction and because Christ has become the mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

And so we’re to pray for those in authority over us. And that’s what he find there in verse two. For kings and for all that are in authority. I didn’t make this up. Now I’m not talking about my marriage. I’m not talking about your marriage. I’m not talking about anybody’s marriage. I’m just talking about the one that God wanted to have, his model. Okay? So I’m just trying to say, this is what the Bible says. And if you have a problem with the word of God.

Then you either got to change or change the Bible, which would be the easiest. I think the Word of God has already been settled. So like I said this morning, we’re to bring our lives into harmony with the book. If we did things God’s way over the peace that would reign, but when we don’t, chaos And there’s chaos all over the world because people don’t do things God’s way. Because everybody is rebellious. No one likes anybody telling them what they can and cannot do.

It just cuts against our grain. So he says here in verse 7, Where unto I am ordained a preacher and apostle? I speak the truth in Christ and lie not. A teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. I will therefore let men pray everywhere. Lift in the holy hands without wrath and doubting. Read the book of James in chapter 1, you’ll see why for that, because a man that’s unstable is unstable in all of his ways. And God says, let not that man think he shall receive anything of the Lord, because he doubts and he doesn’t really trust and he hasn’t got his faith in the Lord.

But he says in verse 9, In like manner also, women adorned themselves in modest apparel with shame, face, and sobriety, not with broarded hair or gold or jewels or costly arrayed. Now there’s nothing wrong with those things. I’m not talking about women can’t look pretty. They can’t use paint. I mean make up. Although he told us if the if the bar needs paint and paint it but if if if you know you say what is young women look younger than the men because pain is a preservative.

I got to get out of this somehow. Okay as we’re moving right along. In verse 10 but which become of women professing godliness. So God wants the men to be godly and God wants the women to be godly. And He does talk about authority in the verse. Let the women learn in silence with all subjections. So that’ll never happen. Well, I’m just reading the Bible. That’s all I’m trying to do. And then He says, but I suffer not or do not permit a woman to teach nor to usurp authority over the man.

Now, it’s one thing if a woman is being given the authority as a church and it’s tongue-to-shoe classes and she’s not usurping authority, taking it. No, something can be given but they’re not to usurp authority from the man in order to do what they do. So, I do believe according to the Bible that women should be in subjection to their husband. I’m sorry but I think you’re the verse in the Bible that says that. Now, look what he says Let them in verse 11, let the women learn in silence with all subjections, but I suffer not a woman to teach nor to usurp authority.

So that means that everybody has authority. A man has authority. Man is not to usurp authority over God, as though he doesn’t have to listen to God and nobody wants to be ruled. Nobody wants to be told what to do, but the problem is everybody’s sinned against God. You see, we didn’t have an old sin for nature. We would just all naturally do everything right. Wouldn’t that be so neat? Yeah, we can blame Adam and Eve and the garden, but this is the way it is.

None of us has to be born, but here we are. Now what are we going to do about it? We can either submit, become a tyrant and rebel and go by our fist at God or whatever and defy the will of God. But when we do defy the authority that’s over us, there’s a price to pay for that. And you see, the Bible says pray for those in authority. Is it wrong for children to pray for their parents? Can they?

Did you know that God can change and move things and change the hearts of the fathers because of the prayers of the children? Is it possible for a godly woman to have her husband changed because of his godliness and his prayers? You know the Bible says that that can happen? You read the book of Peter in chapter three you’ll find out. It says that that can take place. And so there’s things that God has put into his word that will work.

Is it wrong for a woman to be able to pray for her husband, to be a godly husband, to do right, to have a strong conviction about thing and to protect and to guide and so forth? See here’s the thing to keep in mind and everybody knows but if we had all this was in the start with it would have been so great, but we’re not born with it. We have to learn it and we have to learn it generally from our parents.

What if our parents don’t know then we don’t learn it from them. So we came a little bit here and again a little bit knowledge there and it would be so neat if we could just learn everything we need to learn and then God let you be born. You’re born known everything. We make so fewer mistakes maybe. But see if I am a father and I’ve got spots on my garments. I’ve got spots on my garments. I got flaws in my wisdom.

Well… If I got little Johnny here and little Johnny’s going to go out someday and he’s going to be a man of his own. Chances are his wisdom is not going to be any better than mine unless he gets it from from God. Because saw the times you know we tell our kids what to do but they’re going to be just like us. In most cases it’d be just like us. They have to learn and many times they’ll learn the same lessons, just a little bit later.

Followed you with the same hold, make the same stupid mistakes because we don’t always teach correctly. Train up a child and away she’ll go, boy, I wish I’d have known how to do that. But it means it caused them to have a desire, a taste for good things, for godly things, and to teach them those while they’re young so that they like the taste of walking with God. And sometimes we feel because we don’t know what to do. We don’t know how to do it.

We weren’t trained that away. But sometimes you are and you just rebalachanced it. So there’s a lot of things that we should have done. I should never have run away with a girl and got married and have her father come looking for me with a gun. That’s not the way to do it. You say, well, it worked out all right for you. Yep, I could have been killed.

Only by the grace of God did he lead me to the Lord instead. But I think about how it could have gone. And I would have been in hell. So God has been good to me. So I don’t tell people, do it the way I did. It worked out all right. No, God never blessed my wrong decision. He blessed my right decisions. God doesn’t bless your wrong decision. God can use them for your life, but you see, God wants to use you because you yield to him, whatever you are.

So, little Johnny goes out there, but if he has wisdom like this, He is going to not have the judgment to take care of his own. Now, he may be old enough. I talk to people and they say, Yank, would you marry us? I said, I’m already married. They don’t know what I mean. I said, look, you may be old enough to get married. But are you wise enough to get married?

Do you have the wisdom to do the things you want to do? And sometimes you want to watch a person because if they can’t protect themselves, they’re not gonna protect the wife they marry. If you don’t protect your mind against the trash, the filth of this world, you have no standard for yourself. You don’t even know what’s right and what’s wrong. How in the world are you gonna lead a wife? You’ll make the same dumb, stupid decisions. And God says not to be unequally yoked together.

You marry somebody that’s not saved. And if they are saved, are they serving the Lord? You meet the right people in the right place doing the right things. Are you the right kind of a person? Are you a godly individual? You see, if this girl is so wonderful, she deserves a good man, a good husband, and maybe even have a good father for her children. Are you the kind of a man that she should have? If not, and you won’t accept those responsibilities, you want to let her marry somebody that will be the kind of a husband.

Not marry you and you become a bum. And you won’t take your responsibilities serious. Therefore, I don’t think little Johnny should get married because of his holes in his wisdom. He’s not wise enough to protect himself. Here’s a little Susie. Okay, a little Susie. All right, little Susie, she wants to get away from daddy’s rule over her. I’m tired of being told what I can’t, it cannot do, and where I can’t, it cannot go. I’m gonna marry little Johnny.

Well, Johnny see, is just as stupid as his dad was. He’s no smarter, but he’s cute, or he’s handsome, or he’s got this, or he got that. Oh, you all see his muscles. Did you know that will not hold a marriage? look at the hell he would stars. Does all these movie stars, they’re the happiest people in the world. And when they find the one they want, they’re happily married forever and ever and ever as they ride off into the sunset, right?

No. No, they just hop from one bed to the other to the other to the other. And then when they get older, there’s nobody cares about them. Nobody really loves them. And most of them, they’re lonely and they’re just, It’s pitiful. And you think how happy they could have been if they just knew a few little biblical principles that probably would have helped them an awful lot. Look what he says here. I won’t just see this. Look there in the book of 1 Timothy chapter 3.

And it says in verse 1, this is the truth saying, if a man, not woman, if a man desires the office of the bishop, he desire for good work. This is talking about the pastor of the church. This is talking about the elders in the church. This is a man. see what it talks about here in verse 5. For if a man know how to roll his own house. And you talk about in verse 7, moreover, he, but see, they want to rewrite the Bible today and say, well, let’s just make it neutral.

You know, it could be a woman. No, it can’t be a woman. You see, Arnold, don’t you believe in women preachers? No. And a woman who can preach doesn’t mean she should, just because she can preach better than 90% of the guys don’t mean it’s right. A dog can walk on his hind legs like a man. It looks funny, but it could probably do it. So therefore all dogs ought to be able to just walk on their hind legs.

No, no. Look at the next statement down here. I want you to see them. You see there in verse 11, even so much their wives be grave, not slanders, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husband of one wife, not two, three, four, five, one wife ruling their children and their own houses well, ruling the man. Now God’s the one that set up a system that will work. In majority of times people don’t do what God wants them to do.

Because we’re in a natural state of rebellion. We do whatever we want to do. Now, whenever something usually goes wrong, and usually it does, instead of correcting the problem and say, Lord I was wrong when I sinned against you and forgive me. Correcting the problem, you become more defiant. Take your Bible and turn over there to the book of Isaiah in chapter 7. In Isaiah chapter 7, so that you know, you see there was the division between Judah and Benjamin, Judah where the Jews come from.

Then you had Israel, which was the northern 10 tribes. So the The northern tin tribes were separated from the southern two tribes and the kingdom was divided after Solomon had passed away. He died and the Bible says because of his sin, he had 700 wives and 300 porcupines. So because of all those women, there was a price to pay and the nation visual paid a price. So it was divided. And so the capital of Israel became Samaria, and the capital there in Jerusalem, or Judah.

Well as time goes on, you have the king of Israel making a Confederacy, a joining together, a covenant for example, an agreement with Syria. And so they were going to come together against Judah. And if they come together against Judah, then they were going to take Him off Aes and put their own King in there. Well, that was a problem. God had a plan and they had a plan. They were doomed to defeat because God had a purpose and He didn’t like what they were doing.

And he had already told them, you don’t make alliances with the wrong people. And that’s what they were doing. They were put in their trust and their alliance that they had. So you’ll notice here in Isaiah in chapter 7, look at verse 1, and it came to pass in the days of A. Has the son of Jotham, the son of your Ziah, king of Judah, that resen the king of Syria, and Pika, the son of Ramalia, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem.

So you have Israel and Syria joining together into an alliance and they’re going to come against Jerusalem. If they come against Jerusalem, they’re coming against Judah. So Judah is the house of David, Jerusalem. And so there is going to be a conflict of interest here because see God must protect the house of David. and he has to protect the king of Judah because she on down the line there has to be a seed that will be born that will claim the throne.

So God says I’m gonna give you a sign because somebody’s got to be born and it’s gonna be born of a virgin. So you notice there in verse 14, therefore the Lord himself shall give you Behold, a virgin shall conceive, bear a son, call his name Emmanuel, and be God with us. But see, he’s coming from a certain place. And you’ll get into a little bit more detail in chapter 9 and verse 6 of the book of Isaiah. But of what I want you to see is this.

In verse 2, and it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is Confederate with Ephraim. So you had these northern tribes, the 10, Ephraim, a little bit further north, joining together with Syria, and they’re making an agreement to take care of Judah. They had their plan. They were supposed to yield to God’s authority. They were supposed to yield to the king that was supposed to yield to his authority. But nobody does what God wants. Everybody does their own thing and then wonder why it doesn’t work.

And things get worse and worse and worse. Now you were supposed to read these stories in the Old Testament and supposed to make us wiser in the days in which we live. That see God said he will chasten his rebellious children. Now you may trust Christ as Savior, you have eternal life, you’re going to heaven when you’re not there yet. But between now and then you can either use human wisdom, which is the umbrella with the holes, or you can use divine wisdom.

When you submit yourself to the wisdom of God, you’ll make better decisions for your life, and you’ll love the results of it, and God will bless you. But you try to use your wisdom contrary to what God says and your is going to be punched full of holes And God is going to let you see how unprotected you are and that you can’t prohibit the chasing hand of God in your life God is so clear so simple on this, but now I want you to look there in verse 5 Because Syria, Yifram and the sons of Romeo, he said have taken evil counsel against thee They’ve taken, come together, evil counseling.

And then verse 8, let us go up against Judah and vex it and let us make a breach therein for us. And set a king in therein for us. So they got plans of their own. Well, some things don’t go according to plan. In verse 8, for the head of Syria is Damascus. The head of Damascus is wrestling. And within three score and five years shall he from be broken that it be not a people. So God is given him a prophecy so much time.

Now this is not what in Jeremiah about the seventy years, this is different. See God allowed Assyria to, both of them. And in about a hundred and something years later here comes Babylon and takes care of Judah. You were thought that Judah could see what God did with the Northern Ten Tribes, they would be wiser in knowing that God is going to chase them too, but they wouldn’t believe it. And so there’s a few things said here. And you’ll notice in verse 9, there’s one thing, you see that word, if, if, if ye will not believe, if ye will not believe, I’m going to tell you, this is what’s going to happen to you.

You’re not going to like the results. through God is going to chase them. And people don’t like to hear that. As a pastor, I feel like I’m supposed to feed the flock and warn the flock. Feed the flock, not fleece the flock, feed the flock. You’ve been listening to Bibleline, a teaching ministry of Calvary Community Church in Tampa, Florida with Dr. Ralph Arnold.
