Don’t you take your Bible-looking doodler on me, chapter 3? Just turn to your right to the book of Deuteronomy in chapter 3. chapter 3. Deuteronomy chapter 3, and notice there in verse 23, there’s some things that are written here that goes pretty good. But the time came when Moses did something that he should not have done. And he wished that he hadn’t had done it, but he did. The next time there was a problem, He was told to speak to the rock and he didn’t do it.

He smoked the rock the second time. And so in verse 21 of chapter 3, and I commended Joshua at that time saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the Lord your God have done unto thee, these two kings. So shall the Lord do unto all the kingdoms with the thou passes? You shall not fear them for the Lord your God he shall fight for you.” That’s a good verse to underline. That’s a good verse. He shall fight for you.

And I besought the Lord at that time. Now here’s where Moses made a request to God. But God didn’t grant him his request. He makes his statement, I besought the Lord at that time saying, Oh Lord God, thou hath begun to show thy servant thy greatness and thy mighty hand. For what God is there in heaven or in earth that can do according to thy works and according to thy might. I pray thee, I pray thee. Let me go over and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain in Lebanon.

Let me go.” God had told him because of his disobedience. You can’t go into the land. he got mad, he got angry, got angry at the people. And the Lord had told him, says, speak to the rock, and he didn’t speak to the rock. He smoked the rock. And when he smoked the second time, it’s like Christ being crucified all over again. You see, that similar to what you read in the book of Hebrews and chapter 6, he says, you can’t do it quite as impossible.

And he ruined the type That upset God. And the Bible says God was wrath. He was mad, angry with them. Sometimes people don’t always, you see, does God know the things that we’re going to do before we do them? Yes. Well, that means it must be the will of God. No, it wasn’t. God knew that Moses was going to do this, but God didn’t stop Moses from making a bad decision. But he let Moses suffer the consequences of a bad decision.

So he says in verse 25, I pray they let me go over and see this good land that has been beyond Jordan for 40 years. He had been leading the children of Israel. Now he could understand why all of those other ones had to die off because of their disobedience. They came back with an evil report and turned the hearts of the people against going into the land because they didn’t believe what God said. They said there’s giants in the land that God gave His promise.

Joshua and Kaleb believed them, but so many of the people some of the consequences, and their carcass would die in the wilderness. Now here’s a man like Moses, a hundred and twenty years old, and he couldn’t go into the land. Something he wanted to him, he would lead the people. But look what he says in verse 20, but the Lord was wrath with me for your sakes and would not hear me. He would not listen to me. He would not grant me my request.

And the Lord said unto me, Let it suffice thee, speak no more unto me of this matter, Gusses. Don’t bring it up again. Now, we just read in Sunday’s school about, you know, taking it to the unjust judge and the woman that did so and her continual coming chief sorrowed him and burdened him and we read him. And so their scriptures are says, don’t quit, don’t let go. Pray always, never stop. And then there’s times when God will let you know that request is not going to be granted.

No sense even praying for it. There’s been a few of my little dreams that I’ve had that I’ve had to give up on. And there’s some that I just don’t quit on. I just keep hanging in there like a pit bull because I do believe that it’s for the Lord’s honor and for God’s glory. And therefore I’ll let go when I die. But I’m going to hang on to some of my requests until the day I die. But he says here, let it suffice thee.

I give you my answer. Be content with it. Now he’s telling what has already happened. So this isn’t happening right here. He’s already telling this. So he says in verse 27, get the up into the Mount of Piska and lift up thine eyes westward and northward and southward and eastward and behold it with thine eyes for thou shalt not go over this Jordan. But charge Joshua and encourage him and strengthen him for he shall go over before this people and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

Isn’t it something? And the Bible says that his eyes were not abated or this physical strength. And yet he was getting to be an old man of 120 years old and yet he was able to stand on top of that mountain. God wouldn’t let him go into the land but he let him see it. That was a little mercy wasn’t it? Just a little mercy. But you see, if God had not taken that sin so seriously, do you know it could have affected Joshua?

Do you think Joshua learned a lesson by what was happening? That he said, and we don’t have anything against Joshua. Joshua served the Lord. He says, for me in my house, we will serve the Lord. And he was a good leader and God used him. He learned some lessons from his instructor, as you would say, and leaders that came before him. And God blessed him. Now, just think about this. You remember the story about Elijah? We talked about it just recently.

But Elijah was a prophet, and he did seven miracles. And the last one was a Lulu. because of Ahab and Jezebel. And things weren’t going good. See the king he really hated, we lied to him. His wicked wife says, I’m going to kill that man. I’m going to kill that man. So did she kill him? Was he afraid of her? After all of that he could take on 450 of the prophets of Baal and run from one woman. Don’t you run from a woman.

Don’t let them scare you to death. There’s the moral of the story. But you still, you’ve got to do right. But here’s this wicked old Jezebel. I want you to look at this. Look in 1st chapter 19. First Kings in chapter 19. This is a pretty interest in chapter. As you know, he began to run. He said, you know, there’s a sound of abundance of rain and Jezebel was going to kill him. So he begins to run and he finally goes into hiding, scared to death.

And then he says, Lord, I think it’s just about time for me to die. So he mentions that in verse three He ran for his life and in verse 4 of chapter 19, he says, but he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, came and sat down under a juniper tree. He requested, he had a request. Aren’t you glad that you lived long enough not to have all of your requests answered? See this is another request that God didn’t grant to him.

And you know what? He never did die. realized that if God had answered his request, he would not have got to ride the chariot to heaven. No man has ever done that before. And look how pitiful he was. Lack of faith. Running for his life. God take me home. When he did. But look at the trip he got. He says in the last part of verse 4, it is enough. Now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am not better than my fathers.

They’re dead and I’m no better to live than they are. Just take me on out of here. And so he said that and I mean he was whining and panning and moaning and groaning. You talk about murmuring and griping and complaining. So the Lord says, you need a little exercise. You need some exercise. So he told them to eat some food and guess where he sent him? He said Elijah to the very same place that he dealt with Moses.

Remember God took Moses to Mount Horum, which is Mount Sinai, where he received the law. Where Moses had a chance to get a glimpse of the hindsight of the Lord when he went by. gave them those 10 commandments. And lo and behold, he says, now Elijah, this is what I want you to do. I want you to go to Mount Horb. So he ran, well, I don’t know if he ran, but he went for 40 days and 40 nights to get there, let there in verse 8.

And he arose and did eat and drink and went in the strength of that meet 40 days and 40 nights under the Mount of God. Elijah goes to the same place, and God is going to demonstrate a few things for him. You remember when Moses was there, there was a thunder and a lightning and a shaking, and the voice out of heaven, and everybody was scared to death. And if they got too close to this mountain, they were like radioactive.

It would just shoot you through a kid yet. You could even touch the mountain. You’d be shot through with darts. Ready to activity? I don’t know, but wow. So here’s a legend. And God says, I want to have a word with him. So while he was there, the earth shook. The mountain shook. Great earthquake. And he thought, well, this is God speaking. And then, no, the a God that can shake theael, shake this mountain and you are afraid of a little woman.

Don’t you\- see who I am? DonBIP see what I can do? God says, I’m a big God. I can do “.[ so he says there in verse 11 and he said go forth andapego stand upon the mount before the Lord and behold the Lord passed by and a great and strong wind. And it says, any break in pieces, the rocks before the Lord. But the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, the nerve quaked, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.

After the earthquake, a fire. The The Lord was not in the fire. And after that fire, a steel, small voice. Now, God can do wonderful and great mighty things. He can shake you to the core. But sometimes, God just wants you to be quiet and listen. And there’ll be a quiet, still small voice, and you’ll listen to what God has to say. And it doesn’t care about all the noise that somebody else makes. or all the threats that somebody else makes.

God is greater than anything in the world. And that’s why he says, no, don’t be afraid. Fear not. Moses is telling the same thing to Joshua. Fear not. Be strong and very courageous. And I will be with you as I was with Moses. So you have it down. So he asked the question in verse 13, and it was so when Elijah heard it that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the evening in entering in of the cave.

Now whether or not just the same cave when talks about Moses, Moses whenever the Lord came by he was hiding in the cleft of the rock. Now whether that’s the same cave or not, but I’d like to go and find this cave. I’m just curious. I have curiosity. I was talking to the guy that I don’t even know his name now, but he had five of his friends that were going to Turkey to go and climb that Mount Arirak so they can find the ark.

And they’re in the process of that now. And I told him, I said, I wish I could go. He says, so do I. He’s in his 70s. We can’t go. I said, 20 years ago, I could have, but could I love the adventure, the idea of it? I would love to be the first man to walk into that arc. I believe one of these days Lord just might have left it for a little evidence just for just good principle, you know, but anyway.

He says here. And behold, there came a voice unto him saying, what do I stop here Elijah? What are you doing here? What are you doing here? And he repeats the same thing. He said up there in verse 10. He says, Lord, I’m the only one left. I’m the only one you got. Everybody else is dead. And I’m the only guy left. I’m the only one that’s never bow the knee. So the Lord had a few things happen. Said to him.

So he’s about verse 14. And he said, I’m not a man. I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altar, slain thy prophets with the sword, and I, even I, only am left. And they seek my life to take it away. They’ve killed everybody else. Now they want to kill me. And I guess in his mind says, you didn’t stop them from killing them. And now they want me.

I’m out of here.” And he was running for his life. So the Lord had to have a word with him and convince him. He says, now, this is what I want you to do. And he told him about three things to do and talked to this king, talked to this prophet. Few things to do, you know. He says in verse 18, he says, yet I have left me 7,000 in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed on the bayon And every mouth which hath not408 kissed him.

You ever had talked about some that’s not kissing up to somebody and giving him word praise and I was like, I got 7,000 that haven’t done that. Now you know, and we won’t take time to look at it. But you know that God did not regret his request because he wanted to die, but God didn’t give it. Moses, he wanted that God didn’t grant it. And you know, there’s a man named David. He’s sinned with Bathsheba, committed murder, adultery.

And then she was gonna have a child and God says, the child’s gonna die. So David prayed, don’t let this child die. God didn’t listen to him. God let the child die. So sometimes God doesn’t grant the prayers that we pray. And sometimes he has another reason and he doesn’t always see fit to tell us. And not only that, when you stop and think about all the things that God knows about you and meversive, what he knows would be the best for us.

And sometimes God will work in, as we say, in a strange and mysterious ways. And you know that when Job had prayed and he says, Lord, I wish you would do it with me. Let’s just close on the verses. look in Job chapter 6. A book of Job in chapter 6. Job chapter 6 is a, it’s kind of a heartbreaker when you read it and consider what he’s saying here. You’d notice here in verse 8, verse 8 of Job chapter 6, this is on page 573.

He says, that I might have my request. I got a request to make. Now you and I know Joe really had it bad. I mean if anybody wanted to check out a planet Earth, it was Joe. And he had a good reason. I mean everything was going wrong. And you know that everything was so bad it couldn’t get better. But did it get better? Did it get better for Joe? eventually it got better for Job. But look what he says in verse 8, Oh that I might have my request and that God would grant me the thing that I long for.

Even that it would please God to destroy me. That He would let loose His hand and cut me off. But of course, Job was not willing to commit suicide. He just wanted the Lord to do it, Job didn’t do it. He said, I wish that the Lord just loses hand and just take me out of here. Then he says in verse 10, then should I yet have comfort? Yay, I would harden myself and sorrow, let him not spare. For I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.

What is my strength that I should hope. I mean, what is there for me to hope for? Look how bad things are. There’s no way out of this. It’s too dark. There’s no light out there. There’s no justification. I haven’t done anything wrong to deserve all of what’s happening to me and he could not understand. You ever feel discouraged and depressed a little bit once in a while? Well, so nobody knows how I feel. Read Job and see if you feel how he felt.

And so he does say this, what is mine in that I should prolong my life? In other words, what’s down the road? What’s the value of my life? Everything was too bad. I love reading the last chapter of the book of Job. It’s a great chapter. It lets you know that God can preserve your life too. And in possible situations when you seem like there’s no light, there’s no hope, there’s no strength, there’s no out of this. And then God just does something miraculous.

He heals Job and told us that God is a great chapter. Job, your friends, you need to pray for them. And things weren’t going good. And next thing you know, all the people that had turned against Job, God somehow, they just wanted to give to Job. And next thing you know, they were giving money to him, giving this, and giving that. And before it was all over with, he had twice as many kids. He had all the, see, the kids, he hadn’t left.

He didn’t double his kids. He got 10 more, but the other ones were still his, but he got some more. And he lived to a ripe old age, and just everything was wonderful. But what’s the end? And because sometimes, because we’re so frail, the Bible says in the 103rd Psalm, he says, he knoweth that we are just frail and we’re but dust. You know, there ain’t much to us. I’m six foot of dirt. This body ain’t nothing but dirt.

I’m living in an old dirt house. Now, how does that make you feel? Look in the mirror. Oh, I’m just six foot of mud. And you’re a spirit living inside of an old dirt house. And it’s going to go back to dirt when you get rid of it. So there’s nothing that we need to brag about about how great, wonderful we are. We couldn’t produce our life. I don’t think you can sustain it. By the grace of God, we are what we are.

And I just thank the Lord for the opportunity to have lived on planet Earth for these few years, and knowing that one of these days, it’s gonna all be over, and we’ll be with the Lord. So I just wanna show you this one verse in verse 12, where he says, is my strength the strength of stones? Is my flesh a brass? My flesh? It’s not rock that’s gonna live forever. it’s not brass that’s going to be sustained and live forever.

I’m flesh. I’m going to die. And I wish you would just go ahead and take me out of here. But as you know the story, everything came out of right. So, Job, I venture to say, was so glad that God did not grant His request. Because sometimes whenever you get down and discouraged and very depressed, you say things you shouldn’t have said. you request things that you just shouldn’t do. Do you murmur and complain? Do you murmur and complain?

You may not even say it outwardly, you just do it on the inside. Does God know that? That’ll be careful. Better be careful. Better be careful. That’ll be careful. Look up here. Let’s appear. This hand represents you and me and the wall This end. of represents sin, we all have sin on us. Now God says that he loves us. Now he hates what we do wrong, but he loves us. And to pay for the sin is eternal separation from God since everybody sends everybody’s condemned.

But now heaven is a perfect place. And God says to go there, we have to be perfect as righteous as God. And by our good works, we never will be good enough. We cannot save ourselves. This end represents Jesus Christ. He’s the Lord God in the flesh. Came into the world because He loves us, hates our sin because it separates us from Him. So Jesus Christ who had no sin didn’t have to die. So He took ours. paid for it on the cross, came back from the dead and said, if we would believe it, he would give us as a free gift everlasting life.

I have everlasting life. I’m going to heaven when I die. And I’ll be honest with you, I don’t recall ever praying to God. Lord, take me out of here. Am I tomorrow? But so far, I’m just thankful for the opportunity to live. You know what helps me? These stories. I’ve been down in discouraged and depressed just like they are, but I know God may not be through with me yet. And I may be discouraged right before a great victory.

So I always keep living with that joyful anticipation, the hope that God has something and it’s not through yet. And the end results will be so much better. And I don’t want to quit and give up right before victory. Wouldn’t it be a shame to do that. And then you get to have it and find out what you could have done, but you quit right before you should have, because you were discouraged. And you couldn’t see how God’s going to do anything.

I don’t even see how God’s going to do anything with the college and stuff like that yet. I don’t know how many kids we’re going to have. Do you know if I focus upon certain things, I could become the most discouraged individual in the world? But if I just keep my eyes focused on the Lord, it doesn’t matter if I got one student, if I got a hundred students. That doesn’t matter. All I’m supposed to do is be faithful.

True? That’s all we got to do. Is be faithful to do what you can do. I’m not in charge of other people’s lives about making the decisions for anybody. I just tell the Lord, Lord, we did what we could and let them come if they want, and if they don’t want, okay? We keep doing what we’re doing anyway. God has a way of settling the mind. He establishes the thoughts. And it can help you to have peace when it seemed like everything else has fallen apart.

But if you’re here tonight or watching by internet and you’re not sure of where you’re going to go when you die, all that you need to do, it’s the only thing you can do where you believe that Jesus Christ paid for your sins, They came back from the dead that he did it for you. And if you’ll trust him as your Savior, he will give you a free gift, have our lasting life. Let’s pray show him. Every head bowed and every eye closed and no one looking around.

It’s a wonderful thing to know the Lord. It’s wonderful that we have the Word of God to know how God moved and worked in other people’s lives. And these were men just like we are. They had their great moments, mountain top experience moments, and then they had their down in the valleys, just like we do. And sometimes we’re up and sometimes we’re down. But the Lord says, I’ll never cast you out, never lose you. And they said, He will uphold us with His right hand.

So we have a lot to be thankful for. But if you have never trusted Christ as your Savior, would you right now just say, Lord, I know I’m a sinner and I believe Christ died, paid for my sin. And I’m going to trust Him as my only hope of going to heaven. God, if He said if you trust Him, He would save you and give you eternal life. Would you do that? If you will, then God said He would save you and you can know that you’re going to heaven when you die.

If you’ve already trusted Christ as your Savior, your God’s child, there may be times in your life where yes, you have a lot of pressure upon you, a lot of stress, a lot of strain. You get so discouraged and you just can’t see a way out. Just trust the Lord. Keep trusting Him. Keep walking with Him. One of these days, yes, we’ll see victory here, oh we’ll see victory when we get there. But victory’s coming. Father, we thank you so much for this time together.

Bless each one for being here, strengthen each one. Bless those that listen by way of internet. We thank you Lord for those. We just pray Your will to be done in their life and that many will trust Your Savior and many be encouraged because of the word that they hear. We thank You Lord. Bless us in Christ and we pray.
