There’s something else that’s in these verses that’s very simple. It’s so easy to want to try to get other people to straighten up. straighten up and you can see things in their life that they’re not doing right. So you want to you know give them your advice and don’t we admire the wisdom of the person who comes to us for advice.
You say well nobody ever asked me for advice. Oh why? Why wouldn’t people ask you for your advice? Don’t answer. Maybe, maybe, maybe they don’t believe you have anything to offer because if you did have good advice why don’t you follow it? Did you know that it’s easy to detect a person that is hypocritical because they say one thing and do what? And do another. Learn to be honest, straightforward but always be honest, always do right. Always believe in that if you really, really want God’s blessing on you, you’ve got to do right by God.
But if you don’t really want that, you can manipulate people, scheme with people. Just use people, misuse people. And I’ve said this before, I’ve had people say, thank you. I’m here, I’m yours, use me, use me. You can, any way you want, just use me. I’m here And here to be used, use me.” So I use them. And then he said, all he wants to do is use me. So some people come, times you just, you can’t win. So look what he says here.
He says in verse three, And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but consider not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or else, will thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye, and behold, a beam like a big O2 before is in your eye. Isn’t it amazing the person with the 2 before? You can see the person with a splinter, but they can’t see their own. And that’s why sometimes we have to be careful of all the so-called, maybe, wisdom that we have.
And you’re afraid sometimes to give people biblical counsel because you know that you don’t follow your own advice. And so you don’t know what to say, So sometimes you just don’t say anything. There is a certain amount of power of influence. Every Christian has a power of influence. You can influence somebody’s life. And remember, it’s not always just winning somebody to Christ. I know a lot of people who are very effective in winning people to Christ, but they can also, they destroy them the same way because they don’t know how to build them because you can’t build people stronger than what you are.
So whatever you are is what you reproduce. If you’re lazy, you produce laziness. You’re a soul winner and you can produce a soul winner. If you’re excited about the Lord, you can produce people that are excited about the Lord. Whatever you are, you reproduce after your own kind. You’ll read that in the book of Genesis. Everything reproduced after its own kind. And that’s what we do. That’s why we have to be careful. So just to understand the principle, you wanna see clearly.
And so therefore you need to have self-examination. And unexamined life is not worth living. So every man, and we talked about this every time we have communion, examine yourself, to examine yourself. Is there something that could hinder God’s blessings upon your life? Is there something that you’re doing that you’re tolerating because, well it’s not that bad, it’s just a little bit he said. and you don’t take things like that seriously. I assure you, remember, Satan said in his heart, I will, and he just said it in his heart.
And God says, no, you won’t. You’re out. How many sins did Adam and Eve have to commit in the garden? One. How many sins can keep us out of heaven? So you think a sin that big a deal? That little sin can keep us from a lot of blessings because we accept things. And when you begin to accept little things, those little things get bigger and bigger. You ever heard somebody say, he makes a mountain? amount of a molehill.
You know the difference between a mountain and a molehill? More dirt. Just more dirt. And so a lot of people just like to throw as much dirt as they can. So keep that in mind. Look now in Matthew chapter 16. Matthew chapter 16. Matthew chapter 16 and look in verse 9. There’s something that he tells us that we need to watch because Not everybody’s always around to hold your hand and tell you what to do and what not to do.
This is why every person has to learn how to walk with God. You can’t serve God on my faith. I can’t serve God on yours. You have to have your own faith in the Lord. You must charact learn how to walk with God. I do not want to raise a bunch of people in a church to always depend upon the preacher. because the preacher could die. Ain’t did. And that’s why you got to learn how to walk for yourself.
The Lord has to be precious to you. You got to learn how to walk with Him if you didn’t have anybody. So here in Matthew in chapter 16, and look there in verse 9, he says, do you not yet understand? Neither remember the five loaves of the 5,000 and how many baskets you took up? Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many baskets you took up. How is it that you do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread that you should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
So what does he mean by that? Because you see down here in verse six, down in verse six he kind of tells him something. He said unto them, take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. And see, they didn’t believe the Sadducees, they did not believe in the resurrection. They didn’t believe the power of God. That’s why they were Sadducee. I appreciate when somebody gets, some little jewels comes out. But what is this leaven that he’s talking about?
And so in verse 7, and they reasoned among themselves, is it because we have taken no bread, poor, poor us, we forgot to take bread. He said, look, you remember how many loaves you had here and how many you had here? I’m not talking to you about that kind of bread. Leaven is like sand. It permeates the dough and causes it to rise. And a lot of preachers use a lot of leaven in their messages because it raises the dough.
And they say all those things that makes people feel good. And we don’t want to talk about sin because that irritates people. You know, it makes people uncomfortable talk about hell and things like that. And so they tip toe through the tithers. So he said, I’m talking about something else that’s important. aware of the doctrine, this leaven is talking about doctrine, the evil teaching of those kinds of people that are rejecting Christ. That’s why I say the Bible makes this statement concerning those that have a doctrine contrary to that which you have learned and says and avoid them, not join them but avoid them.
So here he makes the statement in verse 12, then understood they how that he bathe them not beware of the leaven of bread but Enuara on the line is the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. See if you want to stay strong in the Lord you have to know what’s right and what’s wrong. If you want a sound mind, a sound mind come from sound doctrine that come from sound words. So you’ll see that in the book of Titus.
So he says, we’ve given you sound words from sound doctrine so that you may be sound in the faith. So if you and I want to be sound in the faith. We have to know the Word of God, apply the Word of God, and be on guard that there’s a lot of false teachings in the world. Beware of every kind of teaching, because if you tolerate something that’s not true and you don’t weigh that against what the Word of God says, That little teaching can permeate the whole loaf of bread.
And God says, that happens to individuals. There’s a lot of people that I went to Bible college with, but we couldn’t wait to get out and shake the world. And some have allowed a little yeast to get in there. A little leaven, the next thing they know, it permeates all their mind and they no longer believe what they used to believe. they’re not as sound as they used to be. And therefore, if you’re not sound in the mind, you’re not going to live right.
So they get away from the things of God. And I’ve seen it over and over and over again. That’s why you need a good, strong Bible-believing teaching church that teaches what the Word of God says to help you stay strong in the Lord. So look in Matthew chapter 5. Matthew chapter 5. Matthew 5 and verse 23. Christ says that he did not come to destroy the law. He came to fulfill the law. And as you go through here, it makes these statements over and over again.
Then unless you’re righteous, then shall I see the righteous of the scribes in the Pharisee. You shall know wise and enter into the kingdom of heaven. Alright? That’s up there in verse 20. Then you’ll notice in verse verse 21 he says, he have heard, and verse 22, but I say unto you. Then you look there in verse 27, where he says, he have heard, and then next verse, but I say unto you. And then you go through here, and it says that over and over, and look in verse 38, he have heard, verse 39, but I say unto you, in verse 43, you have heard, but I say unto you.
So he’s telling him, look, you’ve heard what the law says. And he said, I didn’t come to destroy the law but to fulfill the law. But to fulfill the law comes from something a lot stronger than what you have. He was a lot stricter than what we are. He knew the cause and the effect. So he says that if a man looks upon a woman, looking for 28, who soever looked upon a woman to lust after her had committed a adultery with her already in his heart, that’s worse than what the law is.
It goes deeper than what the law says because it’s looking at the motive of why a a person does what they do. Do you believe that the reason why you do what you do is important? That’s what you do? God says you can speak with a tongue of men and angels, but if you have not, what’s that word? Love, charity. Then you’re just a lot of loud noise. Or you might give your body to be burned. One guy says, I don’t mind, he loves and he said, but these cookouts, I don’t go for it.
So to take and burn your body, and you have not loved, it says it’s in vain. You mean I gave up my life in vain? So the reason why you do something must be very, very important, and not just what we do. So motive is important of why we do what we do. Look what it says in verse 23. Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar and their remembers that thy brother hath odd against thee. In other words, when you’re in the process of doing something good, and then all of a sudden it’s like you have a little flash in your mind, I have a problem with somebody or I know somebody’s got a problem with me.
Do you try to resolve it? Try to get it taken care of. He says, leave the gift here and go get that thing right and then come back and off because don’t think that just because you did a good deed it eliminates you’re having to take care of a problem that you could take care of. You’d be surprised how we maybe sometime want to buy God off. We’re not doing right over here but we did this over here. That’s pretty good.
I’ve often talked to people whenever I counsel people. I said, you know, you can make a plant something over here. And instead of that plant coming straight up out of the ground, somehow it can go up and come up over here. They don’t always come up there. A tree root doesn’t always go straight down. Sometimes they go out like that. Some roots go down, some roots go out. So you want your roots to be deep, but you want them to grab around these verses of scripture.
And that’s what you grip onto and you hang onto. So when the storm comes, the winds blow and the old trees bending, it’s rooted in the Word of God. You’re going to have the storms. They’re going to come. But how strong are you? Are you just below the surface and there’s no real good root to you? And that when things come, you fall very easily because there’s no depth of root in your life. Or do you really have a deep walk with God, deep into the scriptures, not just surface, but you go deep into the Word and you’re locked onto some of these verses and it means something to you?
Well, that’s the way it should be. But notice what it says in verse 24. Leave there thy gift before the altar and go thy way. First be reconciled to thy brother and then come and offer thy gift. Now that’s what they did under the law, but was to show that there’s the motive of why you do what you do is so important as to what you’re doing. So all these things are important. Look in Psalm 139. Look back here in 139 Psalm.
139 Psalm. Now we’ve mentioned this to you before but just kind of let you know as you look at the 139 Psalm. You see from verse one down to verse six it talks about the divine omniscience of God, his wisdom, and it talks about in verse one, oh Lord thou hast searched me and known me.” That means he knows my heart. In verse 2, thou knoweth my down sitting, mine uprising, thou understandeth here. He knows my thoughts far off.
In verse 3, thou compass my path and my lying down, thou art acquainted with all. And here’s my way. So it’s my heart, it’s my thoughts, it’s my ways. And then in verse 4, for there There is not a word in my tongue, so he knows my word. He knows all these things about us. And so in verse 7 through 12, he talks about the divine, omnipresence of God. He’s everywhere. From verse 7, where shall I go from the Spirit?
Or will the life flee from thy presence? Send up into heaven, thou art there. Make my bed in hell, thou art there. Where can you go that God is not? He is everywhere. So we have about the omniscience of God and his wisdom and what he knows that nobody else can see and understand. And then we know about the presence of God that he is everywhere. Do you believe and feel that you walk and live in the presence of God himself?
So important. And then in verse 13 to 18 talks about the omnipotence of God, the power of God. She died in verse 13 what God is able to do working on the inside of my mama He formed my little body And he knew all about me and all the parts that put me together God says that he did all of that And then he says how fearfully and wonderful I am made so when you go home tonight you look in that mirror So you are fearfully and wonderfully made You and I ought never to have a bad self image Why would you have a bad self-image?
God made you like what God made. Don’t try to be anybody else. You just want to be the best you can be. I don’t want to be Dr. Stanford. I don’t want to be Mark Cameron. I don’t want to be Curtis Hudson. I want to be Yankee because God wanted me to be them. He should have made me them, but he made me me and I want to be me. That’s what makes me different. There may be a lot of people you want to be like, but you ought to be satisfied in your own skin.
This is who I am. And I know that God can use me the way that I am because I’m fearfully and wonderfully made and God says all of his thoughts are about me. Anyway, talks about the human contemplation, how that we think. Look what he says down there in verse seven, the name where he says, how precious. Also are thy thoughts on the meow God, how great is the son of them. If I could count them, they’re more in number than the sand when I awake.
I am still with the… You realize that there’s a God in heaven who spends all of his time every day thinking about me. Oh, he might think about you some, but I have verse that says he thinks about me. Do you believe that? I’m so glad that God is not so busy he don’t have time for me. Wouldn’t it be a shame that if you call God, Lord says, ah, I’ve got to go. Leave it on the answer machine.
I’ll get back as soon as I can. I’m busy right now. See, God doesn’t use email. He uses an email. I like that. But look what he says in verse 23, verse 23 and 24, these are two very good verses. I refer to me just many of them. Where it says, search me, oh God, and know my heart. So in verse one, I drew a line from verse one, straight over to verse 23. We call it when And he says, Thou has searched me and you know me.
Now he says, do it again, as so we’re saying continually. Always keep examining me. You want the Holy Spirit to be so strong and powerful in your life that you become so sensitive to anything you say and do and think that’s not within as well. Now nobody can do this for you. Nobody can walk with God for you. This is a personal thing that you have to have between you and God. Look what he says. And know my heart.
Try me. That means to test me. Lord, I want you to test me. I want to show you that I’m real. I want to show you I’m real. If you really believe that, see, you’re not afraid of problems and testings in life because you know there are only opportunities to prove to God, Lord, I’m for real. You want God to be real? If you put everything you have in his hands, it won’t be long before you’ll see the hand of God and everything that you have and everything that you do.
I want to show God, Lord, I am for real. I promised him over 50 years ago, I want to serve the Lord. 50 years later, and I’m still doing exactly the same thing I was doing back then. Hopefully, I’ve matured a little bit. And there’s a few things I’ve had to cut off out of my life. I’ve had enough tests and so forth and I’ve had enough aches and pains and woes and brush with death and all kinds of things.
But look what he says and know my thoughts. Now the reason for knowing all of this, God, is so that God will tell you. Did you know that God can use other people to tell you what’s wrong with you? And other people can see things in your life that you might not see. And it takes a humble man to accept constructive criticism from somebody else, because they may be able to say things to you. And you realize how strong somebody has to be to have the courage to confront you, to tell you.
If you saw a friend doing something they should not do, don’t you know how hard and difficult it is and how you will fight for the right word, the right timing, and how to say something to somebody because you care about them and you love them and you know you run the risk of losing a friend or an opportunity and because you run that risk. That love makes you go ahead and you do it. So hopefully that will be your reason.
I got a lot of things to say. I’ve only got half way through what I wanted to talk to you about. I told you I’d like to ramble sometimes, but that’s okay. I used to listen to Ray Stanford and he was always chasing rabbits. He’d be on his rabbit trail and he’d be on another rabbit trail. But I found out, man, those are good rabbit trails. I don’t get worried when. It was always a good trail because he always had something to do.
because we always had something good to say on all that. You see, someone’s sure, you ought to get on the main highway and stay on the main highway. That would be good, but everybody don’t live on the main highway. They’re living on these side roads. So you have to go on these side roads, you know, change all the little rabbits. Look up here, this is you and me. And the wallet represents sin. We all have sin on us. God loves us.
Now He hates our sin, but He loves us. And to pay for this sin is eternal separation from God that means in a literal fire burning hell. But God loves us once as to go to heaven. To go to heaven we have to be perfect just as righteous as God. And none of us are perfect, none of us are righteous. We’ve all sinned. We’ve all come short of God’s perfection. So God says you cannot save yourself. This in represent Jesus Christ.
He’s the Lord God in the flesh came into this world because he loves us. Now he hates what we do wrong because it separates us from him. So what Christ did? It’s because you know I couldn’t get to him. He can’t get to me because of sin and The Bible says and I said our sins have separated us from God So Christ took the sin paid for it on the cross came back from the dead and said if we believe he did it for us He would put the payment to our account and We get to go to heaven on what Christ did for us.
See when I believe that he did that for me He put that payment in my account. I have a payment for my sins That’s why I can’t go to hell because I don’t have any sins to pay for he paid for all of my sins And you don’t pay for it twice and that’s why it’s such good news For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son Whosoever whosoever believe it should not perish means he won’t go to hell but have everlasting life The Bible says for he God have made him Jesus Christ who knew no sin to be sinned for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
God gives us His eternal righteousness. And we go to heaven and what Christ did for us. And that’s the best news in all the world. Let’s pray, shall we? We had bow nice clothes and no one looking around. I do want you that are sitting here and those that are watching by internet to make sure that you have trusted Christ and Him alone as your only hope of going to heaven. because there is no other way. There’s not a plan B, it’s only plan A.
And if you will, right now, right where you’re sitting, say, I’m a sinner, because friend God says, we have all sinned. I have, you have, we all have. But God loves sinners. He loves us, and He loves you. And so He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into this world to die for you. And He would rather die then live without you. Would you believe he did it for you? Would you trust him as your savior as the one that paid for your sins?
If you accept that payment he made, then you have a payment for your sins. That means you don’t have to pay for them. Would you believe it? Would you trust him? And if you will, I’m gonna ask you right now in the quietness of this moment, just talk to the Lord and say, Lord, I believe it and I’m going to trust you. You’re there here in the auditorium. I’d like to know if what I’ve said made sense. If you’ve already trusted Christ as Savior, you never have to do it again.
But if you haven’t, would you do it right now? So it hits by a nice close. No one looking around and is anyone else? I’ll say, yes, I will trust Christ as my Savior and I’ll bring John life for you to pray for me. Anyone at all? Our Father, we do thank you for the opportunity we have to come and study your Word. We pray also, Lord, especially for these requests that have been made tonight. So we commit these things to you.
In Christ’s name we pray, Amen. You’ve been listening to another great lesson from Pastor Arnold, and we hope that you’re growing in the knowledge of the Lord through this ministry. To help you continue your growth and maturing, we are going to give those who make a financial donation in any amount the DVD teaching series, How to Witness to a Jewish Person. You know, most Christians think Jews really know the Old Testament, but in reality, most know very little. Though most are familiar with some terms of the Bible, very few know any details about how Abraham, their patriarch, was saved.
Most have never read Isaiah 53 and have no idea it’s all about Jesus. So for this month only, for a donation in any amount, we’ll send you this DVD teaching series on how to witness to the Jew. Your mailing address is 4811 George Road, Tampa, Florida, 33634, and don’t forget to include your mailing address as well. God bless you and thank you again for supporting Bibleline. Thanks for joining us on Bibleline. If you are in the area, we welcome you to visit us.
The address for Calvary Community Church is 4811 George Road, Tampa, Florida, 33634. And now, a closing thought from Pastor Arnold. Friend, one day it will happen. The trumpet will sound, and we will be changed. Cut up to meet the Lord in the air. So live today and every day. Believe in that the Lord is coming soon. Just keep looking up.
