Words have meaning and that’s why we’re supposed to use great plainness of speech and the reason is because God wants people to understand what we said. People are going to have to make decisions based upon what they understood and so we want to be as clear as we possibly can and if you will just very quickly just turn in your Bible to the book of 1 John 3, 1 John chapter 3. First John chapter 3 and there’s a verse that I wanted to bring to your attention because it’s translated a number of ways and different versions but I want you to see this in first John chapter 3 and verse 9 where it says, “…whosoever is born of God, God, doth not commit sin for a seed, remaineth in Him, and He cannot sin because He is born of God.

Now there’s a number of translations out that will use the word, they will not practice sin. And the King James says that will not sin, can not sin. But when you take one word and use the word practice, it has another meaning to it altogether. I don’t know anybody that practices send everybody, I know it’s an expert at it, but it means like, okay, I send a little bit, but I don’t practice it. Just what do you mean? And so the word is not good, it’s not clear.

And neither is it what the contact is talking about. And so You have translations that will say various things. It gives you a false understanding. I believe the way it’s mentioned here in the King James is simply, whosoever is born of God, if not commit sin, period. And he can not sin wide because he’s born of God. That’s the new birth. The new birth is what’s born of God. The old man was not born of God. It does not have a new nature.

The old man has an old nature and it sins. So whenever you trusted Christ as your Savior, it’s a new birth. And the new birth that born of God, and it says in his seed, remaineth in him and he can not sin. And that’s also mentioned in the book of 1 Peter in chapter 1, verse 21, 22, where it’s also about you have been born again by the incorruptible seed by the Word of God. So whenever you read this, we understand the two natures.

So we don’t have a problem with it. We don’t have to try to twist it, bend it, reshape it, make it say something that it doesn’t say. That whosoever born of God does not commit sin, the new birth, that’s the one that’s born of God. But now, there’s another way of looking at this. There are two Greek words in your notes, so you can see this. It is praso to practice, or poio, not one single act. So I remember the word praso with the A, practice.

And when I look at the word poeio, I just think of that little I there, one. Not one single act, if the word is poeio. If it’s practice, it’s a praso, meaning to habitually commit. So that’s where you find different translations. Well, do that. But here in these first John, you can get your strong concord and you’ll find that it is the word poeio, means it cannot be one single act of sin. Not one. Is that important? Yes. Because it changes the whole meaning of the scriptures.

And that’s why you have some people that teach Lord and ship salvation because if you’re really saved, then you will have to have the change in your life and you’ll have to make Christ the Lord the Master of your life because you can’t sin after you’re saving. You won’t practice sin. You will habitually keep sinning. And so it’s a different meaning altogether and it causes people to question or to doubt their salvation. If they see sinning, in their life.

But if you and I understand it, well, when we sin that we know that’s the first birth. The second birth cannot sin. We’ve been born twice born into God’s family. So that is very, very important. Now what I want you to do, I have two books down here. And Peter, you can take that NIV right there and open it up to this scripture. Look at Matthew, chapter 10 and verse 32. Now I want you to take your Bible and turn to Matthew chapter 10 and verse 32 and see if there’s a difference in what the word really means.

In Matthew chapter 10 verse 32, don’t read it yet, but just turn there to it. Now y’all turn to your Bible and your Bible and in Matthew chapter 10 verse 32 says, Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Now we can take this verse and in its context we know he’s talking to his disciples and he’s talking to them about service and he’s talking about rewards.

Look there in the last part of verse 41, look in verse 41, he that received a prophet the name of a prophets shall receive a prophets what’s the word reward and then he says in he that receive that they write just men to the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward verse 42 and whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple fairly I send you he shall in no wise lose his reward so context wise it’s about servants been rewarded if you confess Christ before man he is going to reward you.

If you don’t confess Christ before men, He is going to deny you. Deny you what? Rewards, not salvation. Now you take the NIV. Read that same verse 32 and 33. Whosoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge Him before my Father in heaven, but whoever disowns me before men, I will disown Him before my Father in heaven. Now, thank for a minute. Does that change the meaning of the scripture?

Disown. Now, just put that down like that and just leave it open. Now, get the Webster’s dictionary right there. I have a paper there and just look at the word disown, what the word disown means. And there’s a definition under the word disown. To deny not to own, to refuse to acknowledge as belonging to oneself. All right, and there’s a little illustration given there about the parent. A parent can hardly disown his child, and author will sometimes disown his writings.

But a parent cannot disown their child. Now, is it important what one little word might mean? It changes the whole meaning of this portion of scripture. It’s not talking about denying you the reward you would have got, But this own means to disown to say you’re not mine. You don’t belong to me. Now, but is that the truth? No, not in the context. It’s a wrong translation. It’s not good. Now, take your Bible and turn to the book of 2 Timothy, chapter 2.

Go to 2 Timothy, chapter 2, even in yours here Peter. 2 Timothy. in chapter 2. Second Timothy chapter 2, now we will read that verse. In second Timothy chapter 2, look there in verse 12. If we suffer, we shall also reign with him. If we deny him, dies also will deny us. If we believe not yet he abides us faithful, he cannot deny himself. Now before I I’ll tell you what I think it means. Now, this is the way it’s worded in the And I think, go ahead and read it.

If we endure, we will also reign with Him. If we disown Him, He will also disown us. Now, is that saying the same thing? Now, even on the definition of how that word, disown, is used, that the parent cannot disown their children. You can say that, but you know, you can’t disown them. One the your, the yours. So here in 2 Timothy and chapter 2, when it talks about if we suffer with Him, as it says in the book of Romans and chapter 8, we will also be glorified with Him and the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be here after.

But if we don’t suffer with Him, He is going to deny us certain things that we could have had in the kingdom and to rule and to reign with Christ. of the word disown and show it that it cannot be according in the context of 2 Timothy, look in your Bible now at the verse 19, verse 19. Nevertheless, the foundation of God’s stand if sure, having this seal, the Lord disowns them that are His. It didn’t say that does it.

And He cannot disown us. That word cannot be He referred to that. So you can take and say, well, it’s not that big of a… It is a big deal, especially when you’re a critical, concerning salvation because it’s a heaven and hell issue. And then whenever you talk about service and you get words mixed up, then you stop serving God because you don’t really understand it muddies the water. We’re supposed to rightly divide the Word of God. And there’s some things that are not clear and because they’re not clear, we’re going to have to give an account to God for what we say God said.

And God didn’t say that. That scares me to death. I know that when I get to heaven, I will account to God for what I taught and that bothers me. So I want to know what the book does say. Thank you. Appreciate that. So you can see that words make a difference. words and they can change the meaning of the whole context. And so the thing Shanahan, if I don’t do what God wants me to do, he’s going to disown me.

He will never disown me. I am his child and his child forever. Turn into the Bible to the book of 1 Samuel, 1 Samuel. We are over there in the Old Testament. 1 Samuel comes right before 2 Samuel, 1 Samuel, chapter In the Bible, you will see another word that I think some people have a problem with this one little word. It is called subjection. You ever heard the word subjection? I wonder if it has a meaning to it.

I wonder what the word means. But in all reality, it just simply means submission to an authority. But look what he says here in 1 Samuel 15 and look down there in verse 22. Verse 22. And Samuel said, half the Lord has great delight in burn offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord. Do you think obeying the voice of the Lord is important? Very important. And then you need to know what did He say? What did He mean?

This is while we study the Scriptures, not just so we can pat ourselves in the back of how much Scripture we can quote or how many times we’ve been through the Bible, but as the Bible been through you. And then he makes a statement in verse 23. So if we know what the word submission is, then we should know what the word rebellion is. So in verse 23, for rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry because thou hath rejected the word of the Lord, He hath also rejected thee from being king.

In the last part of verse 24, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. Verse 26, Samuel said in the song, I will not return with thee for thou hath rejected the word of the Lord. Why are people so rebellious? You said, we’ve got an old sinful nature. That’s pretty well sums it up. We have an old sinful nature. And the Bible says, all we like sheep have gone astray. We turned everyone to his own way. Everyone probably has a problem with a thing called rebellion.

So if we just changed it, it would solve a problem. If God would not require anything of us, then we wouldn’t be so rebellious. Because if I don’t know what he said, then I can do whatever I want, and I’m not rebellious. I’ve had parents tell me my kids are very obedient, and then I’ve been around them. And the reason your kids are so obedient is because they never laid down the law. Some people say that ignorance is bliss, but I assure you, according to God, ignorance is not bliss.

There’s a responsibility and they always say ignorance of the law is no excuse and God’s ignorance of the word is not going to excuse We have a responsibility Take a Bible look in 2 Timothy chapter 3 2 Timothy chapter 3 all the way of their New Testament 2 Timothy and Chapter 3 as you go through and you study the scriptures we should always approach the scriptures with the attitude that I want to obey whatever it is I need to correct in my life so that you approach it believe this is the Word of God and whatever I learn I want to do because I believe that it will make the difference of how you approach the Bible and the attitude that you have when you see something that you know I need to correct that in my life.

I need to correct that because if a man will learn how to judge himself, he won’t have to be judged. If you will learn how to discipline yourself, then God won’t have to do it for you. A part of maturing and growing up in the Lord is that you learn how to discern right from wrong and nobody has to make you do the right thing. You do it willingly. that’s a sign of an adult maturing in the Lord. But have you ever seen an adult that cannot discern the right hand from the left?

They just don’t get it. And they’re ignorant of the scriptures, but then they don’t want to study it to find out. I don’t understand, but look there in verse 1 of chapter 3. This know also that in the last days perilous times shall come. Men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural effects and truthbreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce despises of those that are good, traders, heady, high-minded lovers of pleasure, more than lovers of God, have an a form of godliness but deny the power thereof from such turn away.

People that are like that, you need to stay away from because that’s not the way God wants you to be in water seeks its own level and people are easily in front of a man who does not control the lust of the flesh is not somebody you should hang around because you see people are influenced and you need to watch the kind of company you keep the closest friends that you have. Seek Godly people and do the right thing but in these scriptures that lets us know that there our signs of rebellion.

It means that we want to go our own way. But the word subjection, look where it’s found. Look how God uses it in so many ways to help us to understand what He’s talking about. Take your Bible to look in the book of Luke. Go to the book of Luke. The book of Luke in chapter 2. I love it because it’s a good place to start. It’s a good place to start. The book of Luke in chapter 2. And And notice what it says here in verse 51, 51.

Now you know there’s a little story here. Jesus was about 12 years of age. And anyway, he was missing for a couple of days. And mommy and daddy had to go back and try to find him. Of course, he wasn’t his real son. But Joseph, and they came back and they found him. And they found him in the temple. And he was talking to all these big shots. I wonder if someone remember him a few years later. But he told him, he said, which do not that I must be about my father’s business?

And he wasn’t talking about in the carpenter shop. Jesus knew this at a young age. He knew who he was and he knew what he was here about. So you see there in verse 49, he said to them, how was it that you had sought me? Which do not that I must be about my father’s business? And they understood not the sin which he spake unto them. And verse 51, and he went down with them and came to Nazareth and you ought to online this phrase, was subject unto them.

What do you think that means? He was subject to his mother and father. But what does it mean? Because if you don’t know what that means, you won’t know what it means when he uses it in another place under authority obedient to their parental authority. So he was subject. To the parental authority. So if you can understand that the Bible has a way of teaching itself explaining what it means. Take your Bible look in the book of Luke chapter 10 just a few pages to your right.

Luke chapter 10 and verse 17. The Lord had already sent out 70. They were to go out two by two. He gave them certain powers, and they had a ball. They came back and they were all excited. So that said, up there in verse 17, and the 70 returned again with joy. Saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. name, what do you think that means? They were subject unto His disciples through His name. Jesus, see, there always is a chain of command.

There is a power of authority structure. And so God’s the one that set it up and it says it’s rebellion not to submit yourself to that authority that’s over you. Now you and I know that the one that’s over all of us is the Lord. So if I’ve been a man, God has given instructions for me as a man what I’m supposed to do. If I’m single, he doesn’t have any authority over me, right? He has authority over everybody.

And if a man is married, God tells him what to do. And if he has children, God tells him what to do. He’s under authority. Now some people rebel against that authority and on down the line. So if the man rebels against the authority and the wife rebels against her husband’s authority then the children rebel against the parents’ authority and all of it breaks down. And the Bible says be subject one to another. Doesn’t mean my kids are on the same level authority wise, no, no.

It means they’re submit to the authority over them and I submit to the authority that over me, one to another means this way, not this way. I don’t believe you’ll find in the Bible where it says parents obey your children and the Lord for this is right. Never goes that way. It doesn’t say in the Bible, husbands submit yourselves to your wives. You won’t find the verse that says it because it’s contrary. There’s a way in which God deals with His creation and what He says.

And so there is to be this subjection that we’re to have and not to do so, not to understand it. It’s why we have so many people that are so rebellious. Did you know that when you submit to the authority of God that’s over you, there’s so much more freedom? so much more peace, so much more joy, knowing that if I submit to him, he has responsibility to do so many things for me as his child. But if I rebel against his authority and get out from under his love, protection, his guidance, you’re talking about one miserable individual.

The Lord says it’s not within man that walk up to direct his steps. And so you’re asking for a lot of trouble, a lot of trouble. Look in 1 Corinthians chapter 15. 1 Corinthians in chapter 15. 1 Corinthians chapter 15. Now the Lord says He’s coming back someday. He’s coming back. He’s going to set up His kingdom. See that verse 24? Then come at the end when He shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father. When He shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

So Ed means if he puts it down, everything is under him. For he must reign till he had put all enemies under his feet. That means that he is going to have everything and everybody in subjection to him. When he was here in Matthew chapter 28, he made the statement And it says, all power is given unto him. All power is given unto him. So that he is, and we know from the book of Philippians in chapter two, he was exalted and given a name, which is above everything, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, and every tongue shall confess that he is the Lord to the glory of God the Father.

So that’s what. It’s going to take place. As yet he has not put everything under his feet because the time has come and when he will, it ain’t over yet. In verse 27, for he had put all things under his feet, but when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifested. He has accepted which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, see he is the Lord, he is God, he is King, he is ruler, he is a ruler.

the throne, but he’s allowing the people to do whatever they want to do. But the day will come when he’s going to lure the boom and he’ll rule with a rod of iron. Now as you go down through here you’re in verse 28, when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him. That God may be all and all. Everything and everybody must be under this objection of God himself.

Look at Ephesians in chapter 1, the book of Ephesians in chapter 1. So whether those things are something so simple like the body of Christ. Now remember this, do you think all of God’s children love the church. No. And I’m not talking about the building, I’m not talking about the mortar and the rugs and the podium. See when Christ died he shed his blood and purchased the church with his own blood in chapter 20. So when he says he loved the church and gave himself for it, he’s talking about the people, the people.

So he loves the people. So he says, he wants us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. We sometimes find that Christians hate one another so much they don’t want to assemble together. But what does the book say? The book says when you come together, oh yes, you can be a maverick on your own, do whatever you want to do, come and go and all that. But you’re not in subjection to Christ. You’re His child, you have eternal life, you’ll go to heaven whenever you die.

But unless you’re in subjection to His will, then you are in rebellion. And so many of God’s children are living a rebellious life, like a teenager that’s rebellious against the authority that’s over them. Didn’t that a shame? But there’s Christian people that are doing the very same thing, oh they can see it when it comes to their kids because they’re the authority and the kids don’t mind you. When the Bible talks about in the book of Romans in chapter 8 about being spiritually minded or carnally minded, to be spiritually minded means you mind the Spirit.

Karlly minded, you mind the flesh. Would you say that you mind God? When you were a teenager, did you mind your parents? What did that mean? What did it mean to mind your parents? You did what they said do. So if you’re gonna mind the spirit, be spiritually minded, you should mind what the Holy Spirit teaches you from the of God. And if you do, it will help you tremendously.
