I want you to take your Bible and turn to the hundred and third Psalm, the hundred and third Psalm. I love the Psalms, many tremendous statements in it that reveal the soul of a man, sometimes expressing how a person feels between him and God. If you don’t know how to express how you feel inside, read the Psalms and you’ll find there’s one Psalm in here that will say what you think and how you feel. It’s a tremendous book. Most of the Psalms written by David.
This is a Psalm of David also. I know the Bible tells us that God has bestowed upon us many benefits. All we’re thankful for salvation. But there’s a lot more that God has done for us than just saving our soul from hell. He’s given us so much. I often wonder why doesn’t everybody serve the Lord after they know Christ is their Savior, but many people don’t for some reason. And I believe it’s because there’s something they don’t know or understand about God.
Don’t believe that it’s all worth it. this, there is no disobedience here that through it of whatever you may gain that will be worth what it’s going to cost you when you get to heaven. Nothing that you could:::::::: against God is worth what it will cost you when you get to heaven and find out this is what you gave up. This is what God had for you but well you didn’t want his best and therefore you don’t get it.
I want you to realize here in the book of Psalms and especially a hundred and a third Psalm about eight different things that expresses some things about God. But a lot of people because of what they don’t know, it’s going to cost them and there’s a lot of quitters. People that will not not only make up their mind to serve the Lord but consistently keep serving the Lord all the days of their life. Let me read this to you.
This is to those who want to quit. You know always giving up, never hanging in there. The world won’t care if you quit and the world won’t whine if you fail. The busy world won’t notice it no matter how loudly you wail. Nobody will worry for you. Have relinquished the fight and gone down for it’s only the things that you do that are worthwhile and get you renowned. The quitters are quickly forgot. Of them, the world spends a little time.
And if you even care that you’ve not the courage or patience to climb. So give up and quit in despair and place yourself back on the shelf. And don’t think the world is going to care. Don’t you get it? You’re injuring yourself. I love that. When you make of you, I’m not going to serve God. Why would you injure yourself? Don’t you want his blessings. You realize how great God has been to you and all the benefits he’s given to you?
There’s a lot of benefits in serving God. And so I want you to look there in verse three. In verse three, I want you to see the Lord now as our Savior. And it says in verse three, who forgiveth all by iniquities. If Jesus Christ paid for all of my sins, how How many do I have to pay for? None. See what that verse says in verse 3? Who forgive it all vine, iniquity. What is so important about that?
Well look what he says. In verse 1, bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not. Forget not what? All his benefits. Don’t forget what God’s done for you. You see, you could always praise the Lord. And you can bless the Lord, O my soul, if you just won’t forget what God’s done for you. If he never did another thing for you, well, he’s already done.
He’s enough for you to praise the Lord for the rest of eternity. If you’ll only remember, he forgave all your sins, all of them. Look what he says there in verse 10. Verse 10 says, He hath not dealt with us after our sins. Aren’t you glad? You see, you only had to commit one sin and be sent to hell. Only one just one, but you didn’t go to hell What if God had allowed you to die after you committed one sin when that had been terrible?
But God was gracious to you and to me He allowed us to live it was God who we don’t understand how many ways in which he tried to reach us and We would not and we were blind and we were hard-hearted and we didn’t see and we didn’t understand and God never quit and God never gave up on us because He’s the one that does the seeking. We didn’t seek God. He saw us. Aren’t you glad? Now you have eternal life and you’re going to heaven when you die.
That’s a wonderful thing to know that He did not deal with us after our sins. He put our sins upon Christ and He dealt with His Son about our sins. That’s why Christ died because He dealt with Him. He took all of our sins and paid for them. Look what he says also there in verse 12. And verse 12, for as far as the east is from the west, now how far is the east from the west? Well, I don’t really know.
I just know that if the east is that away, then the west is that away. They’re opposite directions. That’s how far God said he had to remove our sins from us. Look what he says. As far as the east is from the west so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. They’ve been removed, taken away. That’s why Toldis Decide was going to all of us, we’re on preach the forgiveness of sins, forgiving you as though you never sinned.
Isn’t that a wonderful benefit to have? And we can bless the Lord, O my soul, as long as we can remember that He hath done this for us. So we have something to praise the Lord about. He is our Savior. He has saved us from hell, giving us eternal life, and we’re going to heaven because of that. Now, take your Bible and look there in the book of 103rd Psalm, But I want you to look in the last part of this verse.
In verse four is a tremendous verse when he says, who redeemeth thy life from destruction, who chroneth thee with loving, kindness, and tender mercy. The first part of the verse says, who redeemeth thy life. You see, he didn’t only redeem us from hell, and for what sin was going to do with us as far as the penalty goes, and our eternal separation from God, He is also redeeming us as we live our lives from being destroyed. Because there’s somebody who wants to destroy your life, ruin your testimony.
And God by the Holy Spirit living inside of us is giving us the power that we need to redeem our life, or keep from wasting our life. Or as the little quote that I gave to you just a moment, being set on the shelf. Not used. A wasted life. To realize that God can save our life from total destruction. You see, if you don’t serve the Lord, you wasted your life. It doesn’t matter what you accomplished in life, only thing that is important is when you get to heaven, did you serve him?
Was you obedient to God? And that’s why we can praise God since you’ve been saved because of what he has done in your life. But how much more could he have done in your life if you’d only let him? Aren’t you thankful that God’s been good to you? Oh, there’s so much that God has done. I want you to realize that here in this verse, when he makes the statement, who chroneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies. Look in verse 17, verse 17, but the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him and his righteousness unto children’s children.
And look in verse 18, too such as keep his covenant and to those that remember his commandments to do them. God’s tender mercies and loving kindness is upon his children that will remember to do what God’s told them to do. Now since you’ve been saved, are you doing what he’s told you to do? Because as you obey the Lord, God is going to bless you here, reward you there. So you get benefits now and later. Isn’t that a wonderful thing to know?
If you know this and understand it and believe this, then it should motivate us to want to serve the Lord now. Understand that God has done so much for you. And don’t worry about what he’s going to do because, remember, if he was faithful in the past, he will be faithful tomorrow. God is a faithful God. His compassion failed not. And they’re new in first every morning, according to lamentation. Now, the Bible says that God has done all these wonderful things for us.
Now, I want you to realize this, in this verse that we looked at just a moment ago in verse 3, we’re making the statement, he looked all our diseases. Well, isn’t that a wonderful thing to know? He looked all by diseases. Now, when most people read that, they automatically think, well, if I’ve got the moths, he’ll heal me from my moths, he’ll heal me from my measles, and if I’ve got cancer, or I’ve got lung trouble, and I’ve got all these different diseases in my body, God’ll heal me from all those things when I get saved.
That’s not true. I know a man named Oliver B. Green, who was an alcoholic. He was a drunkard. He trusted Christ as Savior. And even though he loved the Lord with all his heart, did everything he possibly could, he died because of the alcoholic lifestyle that he had lived and took his life earlier than what it had to be. Why didn’t God heal him? He didn’t. The Bible tells the body of Pavarodius who was nigh on the death. The apostle Paul had afflictions in his body.
So it’s not a matter of just, he healed all those kinds of diseases. And you know, if I just live right, then God won’t let me get sick. Well, I know a lot of Godly people that get sick. So what do you do with this verse? Well, let’s just pretend just for a moment. When you trust in Christ as your Savior, if God had that very moment taken you straight to heaven, here all right, now you’re in heaven. You have any diseases now?
Of any kind. You have no diseases. Well, one day, isn’t that going to be true? He will have delivered you from all diseases. You’re not sick anymore. You don’t even get tired anymore. You’re not in a body that gets weary and worn anymore. But I believe there’s something more. You see, you and I have the privilege of serving the Lord the way God wants us to, only because of the great thing that God has done for us. Once you trust Christ as your Savior and His death is your death.
You’re free from the law, free now, free what? Free to love, free to serve, free to be what God wants you to be. But you have to be free from that entanglement of sin first. That’s what God has done for us. Now when you trusted Him as your Savior and God gave you eternal life, now you’re God’s child. Did you know that as you live your life, the worst diseases of all is not just the laws of the sicknesses of the body.
Because you and I know there’s a lot of sicknesses in the body. But think about this for a moment. Why not there are also diseases of the soul? Think for a minute. What are some of the diseases, the illnesses of sin? Could anger be one of them? Could bitterness be a disease? All those are the manifestations that takes its toll upon us, not necessarily just upon the body, but upon the soul of man. The Bible says these are the things that come from within a man.
The lying, where does that come from? What about the hatred, the enveying, the jealousy, That bitterness that we have. All of those things, God says, I can heal you of all those diseases. Because see, when you trust in Christ, you say, but God, the Holy Spirit, indwells you and can give you victory over things. Listen, you can’t go to the doctor, says, doctor, I’m so bitter at my neighbor. I hate my neighbor. I need some medicine for that. What would they prescribe?
They give you three pills and says, take this three times a day. And they see me in two weeks and then you will I’m going to hate your neighbor. No, but wouldn’t that be wonderful? You’re hurt. You’re grieving. You go to the doctor and he gives you a prescription. No, there is a bomb in Gilead. There is the great physician. God is a great physician. He can heal the soul. Maybe there’s people who have hurt you and wronged you.
It could be family. It could be in laws, out laws. It could be the people that your neighbor, I mean, a lot of people are hurt and carrying better grudges against individuals. And you need to find how they can eat upon you. Oh, you may not have cancer, but you got something a lot worse on the inside of you. God can give you victory over those things. I would rather, rather have a body wracked with pain than to have those other sins controlling my soul and making you a bitter person with a bitter spirit.
And many people live that way. Oh, physically you may be in a one shape, but spiritually you’re sick and you’re weak and you’ve got disease all throughout you. God says, I can take care of those things. Take your Bible and look there in the verse 5. In the verse 5, he says, who satisfy the mouth with good things so that thy youth is renewed like the eagles. When he said, who satisfy thy mouth means my desires, that which I cry to God for, my requests that are made known unto God, who satisfy my, he is a benefactor.
If he’s a benefactor, I’m the beneficiary. These are the benefits that I get. Because who I am a child of God. He’s the benefit. It’s like he’s a millionaire and he left me a million dollars in the bank. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? You are the recipient of all of God’s blessings. It’s like God’s of heaven. He said, I want to bestow all these blessings upon you, but you won’t get into position where I can give them to you because you keep rebelling against me.
And you won’t walk the way I tell you to walk and you won’t get where I tell you to go. He says, and you have violated my will, and therefore you can’t have all of these wonderful blessings that I wanted to give to you. And won’t it be a shame that when you get to heaven, you find out what it’s cost you. There is no disobedience that you can do now. That will be worth what you have disobeyed God concerning.
Because remember this, God sets up in heaven and He tells you what to do. And if you will do what he says to do, he says, this is what I got for you. And you choose your own way and think, you won, you owe the victor, I got my own way. God says you disobeyed and to obey, to obey is better. To obey is better. To always to obey is better. What you got you may like and you may love and you may enjoy.
Think I got it, I got away with it. No, there’s a God in heaven that says, your disobedience cost you this, but you can’t see it yet. But when you get to heaven now you’ll find out that what you gained, you lost. And that’s why the Bible says that when trying to gain for yourself, you’ll lose. But if you’ll lose, you’ll gain. I know that’s hard for people to understand, but you can’t lose doing what God says to do.
You’ll always win. You will gain in your obedience to the Lord. So keep it in mind. In the book of Philippians chapter four and verse 19, we won’t take the time to look at it. But it says, my God shall supply all your what? All your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ. You know, God’s got a big bank account. He says, I’ve got enough to cover everything you need. My God shall supply. Oh, he’s the benefactor.
He wants you to be the recipient of all those benefits. Sometimes you said, I don’t want those benefits. I don’t want you to bless me. And God puts you on a shelf. But remember, anytime you put on a shelf, it was your choice. It means you chose not to be used. You chose not to be blessed. You’re choosing not to be rewarded when you get to heaven. See, going to heaven is a wonderful thing. Well, that’s what we’re going to get one of these days.
We’re all going to get to heaven because of what Christ has done for us. But we’re not there yet. And there’s more than just getting to heaven. Sure, there’s an inheritance that will all get Whatever that is, I don’t know, but I’m ready for it. I want everything I can get. I guess I’m a little greedy when it comes along that line. I don’t want to get to heaven and find out there’s something I could have had, and I blew it.
I don’t want to blow it. I want to try to do what’s right while I can. Take your Bible now and turn to the book of Psalm 103, but look in verse six. In verse six, talks about the Lord executed the righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed, every one of them. In verse nine he says, he will not always chide. Neither will he keep his anger forever. When he said he will not always chide means God will not always pretend like he didn’t see what you were doing.
Have you ever thought that you did something and God was gonna zap you and he didn’t? And you wondered how far can I go before I do get zapped? So far so good. But see, sometimes the Bible even makes a statement in the book of Acts in chapter 17, he says, in time past, these things God winked at. God winked at. Like he overlooked it. Like he let you get away with it. God said, he won’t always just let you get away with it.
In other words, he’s not gonna always turn. In other words, it’s like if I was always told concerning being a pastor of a church. Whenever you look at your people, always see them with one eye and hear them with one ear. Don’t see everything they do. and don’t hear everything that they do. Because otherwise, you require perfection from them and that’s not where they are. And I would appreciate if you would do the preacher the same way. God says that there’s things that He wants to do for us, and He will do them for us.
And God is also a loving, wonderful, heavenly Father. And your Father is going to because He’s your dad and you’re His child. He’s going to chase and discipline you when you rebel against Him. He doesn’t just hit you upside to head every time you do something wrong. He’s patient. He will not always just kind of like look the other way because God’s loving kindness and his mercy. He lets you do a few things and it seems like you’re getting away.
But that’s only because he’s long suffering. He wants you to correct it without him having to correct you. But then also he says that God can also get angry. Now this is a godly anger. Can God get angry? Yes God can get angry. But that doesn’t mean he sends it because he gets angry. He gets angry at sin. A parent can get angry with the disobedience of their children, but not sin. If because you’re against what the person is doing, and always keep those two things separate.
When he makes the statement here, and this verse, the last part of verse nine, neither will he keep his anger forever, means that he is going to chase him, but he doesn’t just keep hitting you and hitting you, hitting you, never let you up. God will discipline you, he’ll correct you, he chases you because he loves us, but understand that God is your father, and that’s what he will do. because that’s his responsibility. Take your Bible now and look in verse 13.
In verse 13, you see, God as a chastiser and as a father kind of goes together because our father is the chastiser. When you trusted Christ as your Savior, you became his child, he became your father, you’re under his authority. In the home, children are to be under the authority of the parents. Well, now you’re in God’s family. So a child is under God’s authority. How long are you not supposed to be under God’s authority? Always, all the time.
It’s not well, I’m under God’s authority as long as I’m under my parent’s rule. But when I get out of my own, well I can’t wait to get out of my own. I’m still under God’s authority. Why? Because I’m still God’s child. He’s still my father. He said he’ll never cast him out, never lose me. And he loves me, but he says that he has compassion for me. And he hasn’t dealt with me because of all the things that I’ve done because he is a loving merciful God.
Aren’t you glad of that? These are benefits that you ought to be able to say, bless the Lord, oh, my soul. Look what he says in verse 13, like as a father, pity at his children. So the Lord pity at them that fear him, that word pity at me compassion. Like as a father hath compassion for his children. Go has compassion for you. And that’s why he’s doing what he’s doing. When Christ was here and he saw the multitude, he was moved with what?
Moved with compassion. He understands because the Bible says he knows in verse 14, he knoweth our frame. He is our creator. He is the one that made these bodies that we have. The Bible says that the Word of God is sharp and quicker than any two edges soared. Pearson even to divide enough sun to our body, soul, and spirit. So God is the one who made our frame. He knows the needs of the body and provides for that. He knows what the soul, that’s what makes us happy.
This is our feelings and emotions that we have. And he made our spirit. And so we were spiritually dead, so he made a spiritually alive and he met that need. He meets the needs of this body that we have, and he’s gonna give us a new body one day. But the soul of man, you see, it’s the body that connects you with the world, it’s the spirit that connects you with God. So the soul of man can be happy in the world and the soul of man can be happy in the Lord.
That’s why there’s a lot of happy lost people. And there is pleasure in sin for a season. But that which will last is the joy that comes because of the Lord, not from the things of the world. But the Christian can enjoy both things because God says he has to do all things freely to enjoy. was made for God’s people to us to enjoy this world, but not to love this world, to let the world be a blessing to us, but not live for the world.
It’s like living to eat or eating to live a total difference. And God says He has done all these wonderful things for us, and He says in verse 14, He remembered that we are dust. He knows how much we can take. He knows that breaking point that every person has. He knows when you have had the last straw and you can’t take anymore. But God says, He’s the one that knows and He is faithful and will not allow anything to be placed upon you greater than what you can bear.
But will allow a way of escape that you may be able to bear. God said that. But do you believe that? Do you believe that all All things, all things work together for good to those who love God. Do you believe that? Then live like you believe that. If that’s true, then a Christian don’t have to go around murmuring and griping and complaining, but you can bless the Lord. Oh my soul, it’s the soul that regardless of what happens physically or materially because of what God means to you spiritually, and if you’re spiritually strong, the soul of man can keep blessing God and stay strong in the Lord.
When it seems like the whole while All around him has fallen apart, but the inward man is strengthened and renewed day by day. In verse 19, it makes the statement, the Lord has prepared his throne in heaven and his kingdom ruleth overall. Even the laws of sin and death are working. You say, well, God is in charge. This world is a mess. but the law of sin, the law of death are really the laws of God and they’re working.
When people are wicked the way they are and God lets people suffer the consequences of their decisions, the law of God is still working. God is letting people see that you can take the life of somebody. That’s the wickedness of sin. The law of God is still a law. It’s the violation of God’s righteousness. And God still allows people who break God’s law to die. God allows people to get sick. You can see the results of sin. You can see the results of homes that are broken up, teenagers that are rebellious.
Every rebellious child shows you that God’s law still works because you can’t be rebellious and when people still die because the law of sin and death. One day all of it will be over with and we’ll be in heaven and God will have totally absolutely delivered us from all our diseases, from all the presence of all sin and will have a glorified body so that we’ll be totally complete body, soul and spirit in heaven with God. And we can look back and read these verses and find everything God promised He did.
Remember, if it wasn’t for God, you and I would have no deliverance from the power of sin. the penalty of sin or the presence of sin if it wasn’t for God. He’s done all of that and he says, bless the Lord, O my soul, for all his benefits. Now you stop and think how good God has been to you and how bad it could have been. However bad you think your life has been, it could have been a lot worse and it might be that, start in tomorrow.
Is that either reason not to praise God? Many things God’s people bring upon themselves by their own rebellion. Thinking that because God is so good to me and I was wrong and he didn’t do anything instead of correct in the problem you let it feed the fire and lead you further away from God and you abuse the goodness of God. But the Bible says the goodness of God, you lead a man to repent him to change your mind, to reconsider what you’re doing, realize God is a good God.
