Take your Bible and turn to the Book of the Body, Romans in chapter 5. Romans, chapter 5. What time people don’t know that? A lot of things about the very beginning of Genesis is found in the New Testament that sometimes has a little bit of clues that helps us to understand some things that not really clear there. So look there in Romans chapter 5 and look at verse 12. Look in verse 12. You would think, why would you go all the way back to the first man to teach something, you know today, you know, 4000 years later, 6000 years later, and we’re talking about Adam and Eve.

So you see in verse 12, wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world. So sin came into the world by one man, and it wasn’t because of somebody that lived before him. It wasn’t by some prehistoric man. There was the first man, God made him, Toulas. So there’s no such thing as prehistory. Why? Because we have the history from the first man. Don’t we? We got the history from the first man than what’s before him. There is no other man.

He was the first man. And so he says, wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world and because of sin death by sin. So, death passed upon all men for all have sinned, and that means everybody has this so sinful virus of the old sinful nature. And we pass it on down the line. Now I’ll explain a lot more about this here in the church service, but not right now. But you will see it very clearly. Now look what else he says here.

verse 13, for until the law sin was in the world, sin is not imputed when there is no law, but nevertheless death still ranged when you sinned, you still died. And so he says in verse 14, nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. He said, what no words I mean. Well, Adam did not sin because he was deceived.

Adam chose to be a sinner. You see, and we can get into a debate about him. Why did Adam do what he did? He wasn’t deceived. But Eve took the fruit, ate the fruit, and she offered it to Adam. And at At that point, Adam had a decision to make. I can live forever without her, or I can die with her. Now what would you do? Live forever without her or die with her. Now did he love her? Well I don’t know, it doesn’t say that, you know, he loved her.

Well we’re assuming that he did, since there was nobody else. But he chose to be a sinner. He wasn’t deceived. He knew what he was doing. When Christ came into the world, he had no sin for nature. He did not have to sin. He didn’t become sin. He was just born into the world, lived a perfect righteous life. So by choice, Christ chose to be sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God. Christ knew what He was doing.

Christ was not deceived. Christ made a definite decision. And that’s why He says, after the submilitative of Adam’s transgression, Jesus chose to be in. Adam chose to be a center. Eve was deceived. She didn’t plan anything. But she was caught up with those three little things that gets almost everybody. You’re all related. I knew you were going to ask. So take your Bible and turn to the book of 1 John, 1 John, and chapter 2. 1 John chapter 2, look at verse 15, it’s a simple little statement, but just a word about who do you love?

So the Lord’s Word tells us love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. Well, here we are. You hear people say, well, no, I just love my car. I just love my house. Well I just love where I live. Oh I love the mountains. Oh I love the beach. Oh I love the Florida sunshine. I love the snow in Colorado. Well there’s one thing about you know enjoying some of the things God says all things given to us to freely enjoy.

So we can enjoy the things but the Bible does tell us that we’re not to live for it. We’re not to worship these things. We’re not to bow to these things. They should not dominate our life. We have to live here. We’ve got to live someplace. I’ve lived in Georgia. I’ve lived in Pennsylvania. I’ve lived in Virginia, and I’ve lived in Tennessee. I’ve lived in Florida, and I’ve lived in Colorado. So I’ve lived in Louisiana. So I’ve lived in a few places.

I’ve lived in five states in a year and a half right after my embedding I’d married because I was always on the go. I was a little gypsy never satisfied always moving always doing something and if somebody didn’t you know cross their eyes right I mean I’d quit my job and go get another one and I’ll teach them yeah I taught them all right they could care less I’m the one that was without the job and had a wife and a couple kids so I had these things I had to learn but look there in verse 15 love not the world neither the things that are in the world if any man loved the world the love of the father is not in that doesn’t mean that you’re not saved.

It’s just that the love of the Father is not in. In other words, you don’t love the Lord like you should. If you love the world like you shouldn’t. That all makes sense. And so now he explains what does he mean by love not the world nor the things in the world. So this is what he’s talking about in verse 16. For all that is in the world, all that’s in the world. So this must be the things that pertain to the things of loving the world or the things that are in the world.

And that is the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, those three things. Because it deals with the desire to have what you see and you want to be something, do something, want something, crave something. as he says here, the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, the pride of life. You want something, pride, P-R-I-D-E. That’s one of the things that the devil uses to get us lured away from the Lord is because look what this can do for you.

Look what this will hike and affect your life. And so there’s so many things lifting up with pride. And remember what the devil said to Eve, your eyes will be opened and you shall know. Pride can lift you up. She looked at the fruit, lust of the eyes. She looked at the fruit. If she wasn’t supposed to eat the fruit, it probably would have been better if she hadn’t looked at the fruit, right? So she looked at the fruit, she desired the fruit and she says it’s good for food.

Well, wait a minute, she forgot about what the Lord said. So she was deceived and next thing you know she didn’t gobble down. You said what kind of a fruit was it? It was a banana because the Bible said it had a peel. Oh, I’ll together. We don’t really know and it doesn’t really matter what kind of fruit it was. It was just that obedience or disobedience and sometimes we just can’t stand it when somebody says, now you can do all of this and all of this and all of this but you can’t do this.

Why? We don’t care about all the things we can do. We are greatly concerned about the things that we don’t get to do. We just don’t like it when somebody says what I can’t do. And so therefore we become rebellious. And it usually is revealed. So now go to the book of Matthew chapter four, Matthew and chapter four. See, understand how the devil works. And then you know how he’s going to get to the Bible. you. Now the Bible tells us in Matthew chapter 4 that Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit up into the wilderness and get this to be tempted of the devil.

In other words the Holy Spirit led him into the wilderness and he’s gonna be tempted by the devil. So the devil tempts everybody as you read the book of Revelation chapter 12 you’ll find that says that he have deceived the whole world. Doesn’t say that he deceived the whole world. Revelation chapter 12. That means all of us in this room whether we like it or we don’t like it we have been deceived. You have not been perfectly discerning in all of your decisions.

We’d like to believe that we have been, but the Bible says he has deceived the whole world. So sometimes he may offer us things and we get lifted up with pride. Why do you get your feelings hurt so quickly? Pride, somebody said something that lures you from that little plateau you’re on, make you look bad or think you don’t know something you’re not as good as and pride gets us and we want to be the best we get filled with envy we envy becoming envious if somebody has more than what we’ve got with I’m just as obedient they don’t know why I don’t have it what they have why should they They’re rebellious and mean and ugly and they seem like they got everything.

Nothing ever happens to them. I go to all of the things that I go, we get jealous. You ever seen a girl get jealous if another girl takes her boyfriend? You know what jealousy is? Jealousy is the fear of being replaced. And at the same time, God says that he is a jealous God. Now why is it okay for God to be jealous? God doesn’t want to be replaced by anyone or anything. He wants us all to worship Him, honor Him, and He says that no man should glory in His presence.

So man gets lifted up with pride. Look what He says here in verse two. When He had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, He was afterwards hungry. Well, wouldn’t you be hungry if you have an 8 and 40 days? I get hungry if I have an 8 and 4 hours. In verse 3, and when the tempter came to him, not if but when, and noticed that the tempter came to him. So the tempter came to Eve, he came to Christ, and he comes to us, and even though John the apostle was an aged apostle, he warned us of how the devil works.

And you’ll notice this is the same three things that are mentioned right here. And when the tempter came to him he said, if thou be the son of God, command that these stones be made bread. All you have to do is take these stones, turn them into bread, and you can eat the bread, be satisfied. So he was tempting him to do something, but remember Christ could not do what he did of his own power. He had to do everything that he did by the power of the Holy Spirit.

So therefore it was the Holy Spirit is why he did all the miracles that he did everything he did he did it by the power of the Holy Spirit. Now there’s a lesson there because that’s what you and I are supposed to do. And verse 4 and the answer then says it is written man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds us out of the mouth of God. In other words, God says, I’m not supposed to tempt the Lord my God.

I’m not supposed to do that. I’m supposed to depend upon the Lord and ask the Lord for my daily bread, as he says in Matthew chapter 6. So then the devil taken him up into a holy city, sitted him on the pinnacle of the temple, said unto him, if thou be the son of God. You know all these ifs, ifs, ifs, ifs, ifs, ifs, ifs, you who you claim to be. Cast thyself down. For it is written, and the devil even quotes the scriptures.

He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against the stone. In other words, the angel is going to watch over you. And if you’re who you claim to be, go ahead and jump off. And it’s just like, you know, I’m going to jump off the Empire State Building. And if it’s God’s will that I not die, then I won’t die.

And halfway down, well, so far so good. But you know you’ve got an appointment with the sidewalk. You don’t, well, if it’s not my time to go, I’m not going to go. So therefore I’m just going to close my eyes and walk across the Foulan highway. Am I tempting the Lord, my God? Now, you can do that if you want. You can play those little games if you want. But I think if you do, you’re stupid. It’s a dumb thing to do.

was trying to get him to do something he should not do. And notice the next thing he says here in verse 7, Jesus said to him, It is written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again the devil taken him up into a high exceeding mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world. And in the pride of life, look, look, look, you get to be king over all these kingdom. Well, he knows if he follows the Lord and obeys the Lord, God’s going to give him the kingdom anyway, right?

He could be the king of the king and Lord of the Lord. Why should he fall down and worship the devil to get something God’s going to give him? The devil is always deceptive. If he could have got Christ to sin, then Christ could not have been a payment for our sins. He could not have taken our sins upon him and become sin for us because Christ would have sin himself. And who would have paid for his sins? And there would be no hope for mankind.

Nobody. So he was wiser than the devil. And so he makes a statement here in verse 9. He says, all I want you to do is fall down and worship me. See there in verse 9, he said unto him, all these things will I give thee if thou will fall down and worship me. You know what I find interesting in the previous verse verse 8, he was able to show Jesus Christ in a moment of time all the kingdoms of the earth in a moment of time.

I mean what did he do? Show him the kingdoms in a moment of time what was on a VCR? They used the heavens as the backdrop and there’s a big old screen up there and Jesus got to watch this movie for five minutes. I’m always curious, try to figure out how God did all these things or what the devil did what he did. But he says in verse 10, get the hint Satan, for it is written, thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Worship in the devil is serving the devil, and you serve the devil by obeying the devil. So when you obey the devil, you worshiping the devil. So if I worship God, then I serve God. And if I serve God, then I obey God. So which one do you obey? So as a child of God, you should obey God. And obeying God is how you worship God. I worship Him by my obedience. So a lot of people say they love the Lord, but they obey the devil.

They walk after the flesh. They walk after the lust of the eyes. lust of the flesh and the pride of life and that’s what controls their life. So there’s a price to pay. But see there’s those same three things, three temptations mentioned right here that you find over there in 1 John chapter 2 and also that you find back there in the book of Genesis. So let’s go to the book of Genesis. Those are just the preliminary remarks. Genesis chapter 3 and look there in verse 5, in verse 5, Genesis chapter 3, verse 5, the serpent tells her, so you shall not surely die.

Was he lying? There was lying. And verse 5, for God death know, this is what he says to it, for God death know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods knowing good and evil. You know, the devil says a lot of truth in order to get you to believe something. It’s a light rat poison. A rat poison, they say, is about 99% cornmeal, 1% arsenic. Well, what is the percentage that does you in?

Or does that little rat in? That little 1% arsenic. So a lot of times you’ll hear preachers on radio, television, and they say a lot of truth. A lot of truth, but they have a little bit of arsenic in it. But the people can’t detect the arsenic because, well, that’s in the Bible. That’s in the Bible. Oh, and he’s such a good preacher. And they don’t know that there’s arsenic. There’s poison in that. And it’s deadly. I was one time talking to somebody and there was bragging to me about how great Jimmy Swagger was.

Anybody ever heard of Jimmy Swagger? Nobody’s heard of Jimmy Swagger in here, huh? what a great preacher he was. So I walked into his church one day down there in Louisiana, and this was after he had just made his confession I’ve sinned, and I walked in there and he had a little track, a little booklet in the book rack in their bookstore that says, that damn the old doctrine of eternal security. That was the title of it, that damn the old doctrine of eternal security.

Well, do you know that doctrine of eternal security is the gospel? That is the gospel. That’s the truth. But because he could sing, he could play in a beautiful church, tell beautiful stories, and just bring you right in. And people will see there’s a lot of good, but there’s a little arsenic and people can’t detect the arsenic. Did you realize that when you die, you’re going to hell because he did not tell you the truth on how to have eternal life?

Eternal life is the gift of God. It’s free. And you can know you’re going to heaven. And the good news of the gospel is that once you’re saved, you’re saved forever. That’s what makes it good news. Being saved temporarily isn’t no advantage. Doesn’t help me at all. Either Christ paid for all of my sins or He didn’t help me. And so some people say, well, you shouldn’t use a person’s name and actually say that. Wait a minute, this is heaven and hell issues.

When you’re talking about how you get to heaven and somebody is teaching it falsely, and I am set for the defense of the gospel, then buddy, as much as relies within me, I’m going to say, that’s wrong. That’s wrong. And he said it and he said it and he said it. They say they said, I’m just saying they say they said it. And when they say they said it and they said it. This is what God says. God says it’s free.

God says it’s eternal. And so… This is what God says. God says it’s free. God says it eternal. And so that’s why you have to go by what is the book safe. Now go back here to verse six. In verse six, when the woman get this saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, the tree was good for food, that’s for the body, the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and then the other part desired to make one wise the pride.

She took of the fruit thereof and did eat, gave also unto her husband with her and he did eat. Now, without knowing, 1 Timothy chapter 2, that he was not deceived or the same there in the book of Romans chapter 12, you may not know that, hey, there’s a difference here. Adam chose. He knew exactly what he was doing. He was not deceived. Adam and Christ were alike in that sense. They made a deliberate choice. Neither one was deceived.

But one chose to be a sinner and one chose to be sinned. Christ did not choose to be a sinner. He was not a sinner. He chose to be sinned for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Then it says here in verse 7, And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sowed fig leaves together, and made themselves apron. Now, the thing that did not hide them is, they thought fig leaves.

Remember when they had those two children, Cain and Abel, and one brought the fruit of the land, and the other one brought a lamb, a blood sacrifice. See, they already knew that they had to have a blood sacrifice from the very beginning. And you have the story of the first fundamentalist and the first liberal. The liberal was gonna do it his way and by his works. And the fundamentalist will do whatever God says, that’s what I’m going to do.

and you find that that same principle has followed all the way down through time for the last six thousand years. And so anyway, that’s the story and I’m sticking to it. Look up here, this is you and me. This is sin. I got me some beautiful sin this week. So my gave me a new wallet. Every time I pull out this wallet, I’m going to think about the person that gave it to me. That’s not a good idea. I don’t know if that’s a good amount.

I connect him with sin. No. This is sin. I mean, you and me. The Bible says that we’re all born in this world with a sinful nature, and that’s why we sin. God says he loves us. He hates our sin. He loves us. But the payment for sin, the wages, death and hell. Now God loves us once us to go to heaven. And to go to heaven, we have to be perfect. His righteousness is God, but we’re not perfect.

We’re not righteous. We’re sinners. And because of sin, we can’t get in. And God says, you can’t earn eternal life. You cannot work your way to heaven. It’s not by your good deeds. There is none righteous, not one. There’s none that doeth good, not one. So we can’t do good to get to heaven He called there is none good. This hand represents Jesus Christ. He’s the Lord. He’s God in the flesh. He came into this world because He loves us, loves the whole world.

He hates our sin, all of our sins, but He loves us. So He took our sins and He paid for them. Came back from the dead and said, all I have to do is I’ll believe that He did it for me. He put that death payment to my account and I get to go to heaven on what He did. I didn’t earn that. And I don’t deserve it. I’m a sinner, say, by grace. If Christ walked in here right now and offered you eternal life, and you accepted, what would you have?

Eternal life. If it’s eternal life, it lasts forever. And if it lasts forever, and all you send are paid, where would you go when you die? To heaven. So can you know you’re going to heaven before you die? Yes. And once you trust Christ’s Savior, you become a child of God, and you’re going to heaven when you die. You may not always live like a Christian, but you still are if you trust the Lord. But your heavenly Father may have to chase and discipline you.

Meet the Torah at you. Take your home before your time. Serve the Lord. Guard yourself. Be wise. Watch what you see and what you hear. Let’s pray, shall we? Father, we do thank you so much for your wonderful love to us, for the free gift of everlasting life and father for knowing and understanding some of these things can help us to be wiser and the decisions that we need to make when we understand how Satan works. He did it with Eve and he did it with the Lord and he does it with us.

Help us to look to you and to trust you. Give us a good service to follow in Christ’s name, Amen.
