So in Hebrews chapter 11, in verse 17, he says, by faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son. Now what was the promise? God promised that through his seed the Messiah would come and make a payment for the sins of the world. come back from the dead and everyone who would believe could be justified by faith. So now the promise, this is what he said. In verse 18, of whom it was said that in Isaac shall thy seed be called through Isaac, not Ishmael, but through Isaac and on down the line to Christ.
In verse 19, get this, accounting or believing that God was able to raise Him up, even from the what? If He was to kill His own Son, which was Isaac, that God told him to do, He believed that God would raise Him up, even from the dead. And get this, from whence also he received him in a figure. He knew he was a type. Abraham knew this in advance. And on that very same mountain, Mount Moriah, where he was offering up his only son, he knew this is where God is going to offer up his only begotten son.
And believed that he would raise him from the dead if he had slain his own son. Because God made a promise. And it says it would not be through Ishmael, it would be through Isaac and the only way that could happen, it would have to raise him from the dead. You understand what I’m saying? Can y’all follow me? The Bible teaches this and it’s not made up. I’m not making this up. This is right there in the Scriptures. Now go back there to the book of Genesis chapter 15.
So when he makes this statement and he believed in the Lord, that same phrase is found right there in Galatians in chapter 3 and verse 6. Abraham believed God and it was counted on the hymn for righteousness. It’s also found right there in the book of Romans in chapter four when it talks about what hath Abraham, our Father hath found, because he found that salvation was the gift of God. It’s not a works list, any man should boast. And it says that in the first four verses of Romans in chapter four.
So this was a salvation message where God preached the gospel to Abraham. And then he says there, there’s all these things going to happen. Now look in verse 15, and thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace. Thou shalt be buried in good old age. Did you realize that after this he lived another hundred years? He was about 175 years old when he died. He was an old man at 75 and God gave him a little bit longer to live.
And he had another wife and had a whole bunch more kids. Good night. And how long were they going to be down there in Egypt? Did you know that it even mentions that looking verse 13? Now this is before Joseph was born before he ever went down into Egypt. It was before Moses was born and looked there in verse 13 and he said unto Abram, no of a surety, that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them, and they shall afflict them for hundred years.
So how long were they down in Egypt? About 400 years. And God told Abraham that in advance. They already knew it. And he says here in verse 15, you’re going to die. And then he says in verse 16, but in the fourth generation, so that means each generation was 100 years long. People always trying to figure out how long is this generation. But it only depends on what you’re talking about. Sometimes it’s just a father and then the next generation, the son, and then the grandson.
And that can be a generation. And some places you think it’s 40 years. Another place they say it’s 70 years. Another place well, all depends on the context. Looking for 16, but in the fourth generation, they shall come hither again. So he’s telling them, you’re going to come back here in 400 years. And then he also makes these statements. I’m going to give you some land. So there in verse 18, in the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abraham saying unto thy seed have I given this land from the river of Egypt, which is the Nile River, unto the great river the river Euphrates which is in Iraq.
That’s over there by Babylon. Did you know that Israel is going to get all that land from the Nile all the way over to the Euphrates River, which is almost eight, nine hundred miles away. And they got today this one little bitty sliver of land, but God promised them all of that. I believe the day’s coming when they’re going to get every last bit of that piece of property, God promised them. And it doesn’t matter what the United notions has to say about it.
God keeps his word. So people today trying to figure out, well, Israel has no right to that land. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Who owns this earth? Who’s it belonged to? It belongs to the Lord. God’s word says the silver is mine, the gold is mine, the earth is mine, and the thousand cattle on the thousand hills is all his to. It all belongs to the Lord. He can do anything he wanted. You know what? He decided to do one day.
God got angry and destroyed to hold earth with the flood. Did you know that? He did that. And the next time he’s going to burn it up with fire, his, he can do whatever he wants. And you think they have pollution today? You think you’re talking about EPA, not liking some of the decisions? I like to see your El Gore’s face when the Lord says, I’m going to burn it all down. But what about all that smoke? the pollution.
Yeah. Anyway, he may not be around to see it. Anyway, as you go through here, you find out in chapter 16, Ishmael was born. He was born because of the bond slave Hagar. And so he says in verse 11, and verse 11, and the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold thou art with child and shall very son and shall call his name Ishmael. So she knew she was going to have a child. And also in verse 12, and he shall be a wild man.
His hand will be against every man and every man’s hand against him, and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. So the Lord is going to give you a little view about what he’s going to be like. So in verse 15 Hagar bear Abram a son. And Abraham called his son’s name, which Pigabear Ishmael. And Abram was four score and six years old. He was 86 years old at this time, 86. And still he doesn’t have his own son by his wife, because Ishmael was born of a slave woman.
And the rule was the child of a slave woman could not be the heir of Abraham, had to be his own through his own life. So anyway, look in verse 1 of chapter 17. And when Abram was 90 years old and nine, so we know now that the child is between 13, 15 years old, old ishmael. And I mean, Lord, would you think that for a moment, you know, maybe God’s not going to keep His Word. His promise must not going to be fulfilled.
I mean, I was old when I was 75. And now 25 years has passed. Now He’s 99 years old. How would you like to have I’d like to have a child when you’re 99 years old. You wouldn’t? Okay. Ninety-nine years old. And he says, here in verse one, and when Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to Abraham and said unto him, I am the Almighty God, walk before me and be thou perfect, or mature upright, be sincere, do what I tell you to do.
And he says, you’re gonna have a child. He said, I’ve heard that before. And you notice where he says in verse seven, and I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant to be a God unto thee and to thy seed, which is Christ, after thee, and get verse 8, and I will give unto thee and to thy seed after thee the land wherein thou art a stranger.
All the land of Canaan for an everlasting possession, how long are they pose to possess it? Forever. And I will be their God. Now look at all the things that have happened in the last 3500 years. But you think God’s still going to keep his promise. iterator He is going to keep his promise just like he said. But now look there in verse 15. Verse 15, and God said unto Abraham, ask for Sarai, thy wife, thou shalt not call her name him, asked for Sarai, thy wife.
Thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarat shall her name be him.” You know, this must be what my, the Lord came that day when I was born and told my dad, he says, his name shall not be called Ralph, it shall be Yankee. And my daddy named me Yankee. Why would you laugh? I heard that rumbling across the room. Okay, well maybe maybe he didn’t do that. In verse 16, and I will bless her and give the a son also of her.
Yea, I will bless her and she shall be the mother of nations, kings of people shall be of her. Then Abraham fell upon his face and he what? He laughed, said in his heart, what? shall a child be born unto him that is a hundred years old and shall Sarah that is ninety years old bear and Abraham said unto God oh that ish oh my happy for they oh come on Lord you can’t be serious another young man at our age a hundred years old can you see a nine year old mother with a little baby got to raise a little baby.
I believe God meant for young women to raise children. It’s not that we don’t love children, it’s just that we don’t have that much patience anymore. We get irritated very quickly. I love my grandkids. I love the Simcon and I love the Simgo. But you can only do so much and it’s good, it’s enjoyable, but I still like young women ought to have babies. And if you want to have one in your 40, okay, 50, okay, 60, okay, 70, no, no, I’m 70.
In that area anyway. To show you how God works and why this is so important. Hold your place right here and look in Romans chapter 4, the book of Romans and chapter 4. Now, sometimes we cover these verses, but we don’t connect them all at the same time with the verses like we’re doing right now. And it’s good to see this, to put them in perspective. But look there in verse 19, look at verse 19 of Romans chapter 4.
Did he laugh? Yeah, he laughed. Later on it says that Sarah laughed. So you’ve got two people giggling. And I guess it was hard to believe because, hey, they’re old. says here in verse 19, and being not weak in faith, because after a while he had to believe what God said, he considered not his own body now dead, but when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb. Somewhere along the line, he had faith in what God said.
He believed God, because you know, sooner or later, somewhere along the line, this old man, and this this whole woman had to get together. Yes or no? They had to do that because they had to believe what God said. And so God had to work America. Look what He says here. And He says in verse 20, He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief but was strong in faith giving glory to God and been fully persuaded that what He had promised He was able also to perform.
So he believed that what God promised, you’re going to father the child. You’re a hundred year old man. She’s a 90 year old woman, but you’re going to have a kid. And this is why we call Isaac a faith child, a miraclejile, because he was born of a miracle. God had to intervene. The Bible says their bodies were already dead and could not produce a child. God hadourge that. So because God had to intervene, this child was a miracle child.
And he speaks of the new birth. When you and I trust Christ as our Savior, we are the Son of Christ. Savior, we are born into God’s family by faith and faith alone Berkshwise, we can Detected the New Birth. That’s why I was all doneerial by God. Now go back here to the Book of Genesis. Back to Genesis and you’ll find that Ishmael, God says, oh please let him be the one and God says, no, I will not. And so God says in chapter 18 of Genesis, you notice what he says in verse 11, now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age, not just old, but stricken in age.
And it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself saying, after I am waxed Oh, shall I have pleasure? My Lord also being old. And Lord says, Hey, I heard that. I heard you laughing. She says, I didn’t laugh. He said, Yes, you did. And so down in verse 15, Sarah denied sin. I laughed not, but she was afraid. And he says, Yes, yes, you did too. So this is a real family.
I mean, this is real things that happened and what they thought and what they went through and they’re laughing yet at the same time to believe what God said and to trust Him. So the Lord did these things and it worked just like God says in a child. Believe it or not, a child was born. Look in chapter 21, chapter 21. And the Lord, in verse 1, visited Sarah as he had said, the Lord visited Sarah and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken for Sarah conceived and bear Abraham a son in his old age at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
God let it be far enough along that nobody would ever question, hey God had to do this. This is a miracle child. If they had a child when she was 75, well maybe there was other people that had babies when they and there were 75, I don’t know. But God knew and he had a time when this was gonna happen. Sometimes we get impatient waiting on God because we think, well, God, he’s not working according to my timetable. Lord, don’t you know I’m in a hurry?
Lord say, yeah, yeah, yeah, tell me all about him. And God just makes us wait sometime. Doesn’t give us what we want when we want it. Doesn’t answer all our prayers right away. makes us suffer some time, learn lessons, and yet the Bible says, tribulation work is what? Patience. Patience means you’re waiting on God. You have patience, you’re waiting on God. And so a lot of people don’t know, wait on God so they take matters into the whole hand and they don’t have the ability to do things, and so they get into a big ole mess.
Learn to trust the Lord. God has a perfect timing. Sometimes you can’t make things happen. we’d love to, but we can’t always make these things happen. Much as we’d like. Now, if you’ll notice down here in verse 3, and Abraham called the name of his son, that was born unto him, whom Sarah bear to him, Isaac. And Abraham circumcised his son, Isaac, being eight days old as God had commanded him. And Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born unto him.
And Sarah said, God had made me to laugh so that all that here will laugh with me. And Isaac has a tendency of maybe sometimes meaning a laughter, but he gave him a son just like God said. And then everything was wonderful from here on out. No. You see, there’s a problem. You see, Hagar, that bondwoman, she had a son that was about 13 years old, 13 to 15. And then you have Sarah that has a son and they had problems.
You see in verse 9, and Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian which she had born into Abraham mocking. That’s one born of the flesh mocking that which is born of the spirit. So this son of the bondwoman was mocking Isaac. And she didn’t like it. So in verse 10, wherefore she said a day Abraham cast out this bondwoman, this slave woman, and her son, for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
In other words, the first birth cannot be heir with the second birth. Take off the first birth. That’s the flesh. So when you and I are born into the world, what comes first? Our first birth is a flesh or spirit? Flesh. Flesh. Your second birth when you trusted Christ is a birth of the Spirit. That’s why you find this whole thing mentioned, and I want to show you this before we quit, look there in the book of Galatians. The book of Galatians in chapter 4.
Galatians in chapter 4. All the way over there in the book of Galatians in chapter 4, you can leave your place back here in the Old Testament now. And notice what he says in verse 28, verse 28, now we brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of what? Promised. God promised that he would justify the heathen through faith by faith alone in Christ alone. And he says, that’s how Isaac was born by Abraham, faith alone. Then look what he says in verse 29.
But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. So the first birth flesh persecutes the second birth. And this is how you have it also with Cain and Abel. First one persecuted the next one. You had the same thing when you talk about Saul. Saul persecuted David. So there’s a connection here, and if you see it, now look in verse 30. Nevertheless, what shall the Holy Spirit say of the scripture cast out the bondwoman and her son?
That’s what we just read. For the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the three woman. Look up here. This is our flesh birth. It was born first. This is ourwcs second birth born of the spirit. This is the one that was a result mayoral promise that whosoever believe it in him should not perish but have everlasting life. Which one of these has everlasting life with this birth? Not this onephia. This is the spiritual birth.
But the flesh, my first birth despises my second birth in a flesh lust against the Spirit. So there’s a battle that Playoff goes back and forth in our life. And God says this one does not inherit the kingdom of God. You see that in verse 21 of chapter 5. flesh and blood shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” That’s the flesh. But the Spirit is the Son of God, and you are heirs of God, and join heirs with Christ.
You inherit everything. That’s the child that’s born of the promise. Now y’all following all of this, you’re doing good? Look up here. This hand representing you and me. God says that He loves us, but we’re born into this world with an old sinful nature, means we sin naturally. You don’t have to be taught how to sin. Well, I did. None of that. Everybody sins. This wall represents sin. We have all sinned. And because we’ve sinned, the wages of sin is death, so we have a debt to pay.
But God loves us, but He doesn’t want us to pay for the sin because that’s the eternal separation from Him. So the Bible says to go to heaven, we have to be perfect as righteous as God. None of us are perfect. None of us are righteous. We’re all sinners. And God says, you cannot save yourself by what you’re doing. We need a Savior. This hand represents Jesus Christ. He’s the Lord God in the place. He came into the world because He loves us.
Hates our sin because to separate us from him. So what Christ did for one person, He did for the whole world, took all the sin of all the world, made one payment, came back from the dead, never has to do it again. They’re all paid. And God says, when I believe that He did it for me, He puts this payment to my account, I’m forgiven of all my sins. It’s just like I died and I paid for all of my sins.
My debt is paid. So I don’t have to go to hell and pay for sin because he paid for my sins. And once you accept that payment, it’s a done deal paid in full. That’s why I can’t go to hell. I can’t go to hell today. I can’t go tomorrow. I can’t go in ten years. I can never go to hell. He died for my sins. Oh, that’s good news. Now, if you’ll believe he did it for you, just what he’ll do.
He’ll save you just like he did me. Everybody gets to heaven the same way. You accept Christ as your Savior or you don’t go. Isn’t that fair? All you have to is believe it. Well, you believe that He did this for you. Now, you’re here this morning and I don’t know if you trust Christ as Savior. And I want you to. I want you to go to heaven. I don’t want you to be deceived. I don’t want you to think, well, I’m going to do the best I can.
Then you don’t get it. The best you can do is not good enough You need a payment for your saying Christ did that will you trust him as your Savior? Let’s pray shall we every headbound there be our clothes. No one looking around if you hear this morning And you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior. Would you trust him? All I want you to do is right where you’re sitting. I want you to talk to the Lord You see you don’t make a mistake this way.
Only the Lord knows your thoughts He can read your mind But just tell them something simple like this, Lord, I’m a sinner. I don’t understand it all. But I believe Jesus Christ died on that cross and paid from my sins today, right now. This moment, I will accept Jesus Christ as my Savior. And praying God said, if you would do just that much, it’s all you have to do. That He would save you from hell. eternal life and you get to go to heaven on what Jesus Christ did for you.
Would you trust him? I’m going to ask you in just a moment to raise your hand. Raising your hand doesn’t save you. It just lets me know that what I said made sense to you and I like to know. So it hit by a nice close. Is there anyone at all? This morning say, yes, I will trust Christ as my Savior and preach. I’d like you to pray for me. Would you slip it up a little quickly, put it up back down?
If you’ve already trust the Lord, you don’t have to do it again. But if you’ve never done it before, say right now, I will trust the Lord. But just lift it up very quickly, and rip it down in with all. Yes, God bless you, man. I appreciate that. A sign of good judgment. Anyone else? You can put it down. Remember by trusting Christ as your Savior, He gives you eternal life, and He’ll never cast you out and never lose you.
You that know Christ as your Savior, has He been talking to you this morning? Are you walking with him? I want you to serve him. Our Father, we thank you so much for all you’ve done for us, especially for the individual that indicated by an uplifted hand that they would trust you as Savior. By doing so, they become your child, your child forever. You’ll never cast them out, never lose them. We ask your blessings on each person here to help them to understand the value of walking with you, growing up, that in Christ building into a strong house.
