Hold your pleasure. I want you to turn all the way over there to the book of Hebrews, the book of Hebrews and chapter 12. Hebrews and chapter 12, when you hear about obeying God and serving God and doing what God wants and how that God will bless you and if you don’t, how God is going to chase in you, well, this is what he’s talking about. So none of us like to be chastened. We just don’t like chasing. I never liked my dad to punish me.

Well, you usually punish you for doing something wrong, but I didn’t have to do anything wrong. He would just do it for general principle. He knew that you did something wrong, but you just didn’t get caught. So I get whooped anyway. And somebody, my sisters, said that I did something wrong. I got whooped too. Then afterwards I would quote my sister. Anyway, you’ll notice down here in verse 9, look at verse 9, gives you an illustration of how a father who loves their children seeks to discipline the children.

So he says in verse 9, furthermore, this is in Hebrews chapter 12 verse 9, furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us and we gave them reverence. In other words, Yankee, take out the trash. I will not. And he pulls off that razor strap and he hits me and comes, yes or yes or yes or yes or yes. How I gave him reverence. So sometimes you got to learn how to discipline. And but no to what he says, shall we much, not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits and live?

So here’s the Lord who is our heavenly Father. we have been born spiritually into God’s family and our heavenly Father is going to chasten and discipline us. And the reason that’s because the Bible says he loves us and whom he love it, he’s chasteneth. That’s what he says. But now notice in verse 10, for they referring back to our family, our parents, they’ve barely for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure, but he for our prophet. But now notice, they for a few days.

So in referring to this life, it’s only for a short period of time. But what God does for us is for eternity. When God corrects you, it’s because He wants to bless you not only here, but for eternity. Because He’s going to reward you when you get to heaven for what you did here in this life. Your parents can’t do that for you. You see, they can only be a blessing temporarily and chasing temporarily. And it’s only for a short period of time.

But God, our heavenly Father, we’re never going to die. He’s our Father. So He chases us for a different reason, a different motive, a higher purpose. So He says here, but for our prophet, not just our prophet here, but also our prophet forever. Give what He says, that we might be partakers of His holiness. See, God wants us to live now that would honor him as our Father. So does God want his children to live a holy, righteous life?

Yes. And if you do, God says in chapter 10, and just look there in chapter 10, real quick. Chapter 10. And look there in verse 34, where he says, for ye had compassion of me, and my bonds until joyfully the smaller of your goods, knowing in yourselves that you have where. In heaven, a better and enduring substance. Down here, it’s temporary. There, it’s forever. So when your heavenly Father has to chase in you, it’s for your own good, but it’s for some good prophet down the road, not just in this life, but it’s forever.

Now look what he says in verse 11. He says in verse 11 of chapter 12, now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous. I’ve never met a child yet that really enjoyed getting a woman. Except the other day when this lady was taking me and about three or four others, her husband was taking us to the airport. And she says, my grandson had never been spanked. And she had to get on his case. And she says, if you don’t watch it, I’m going to take a stick to you.

He says, oh, great grandma. I’ve never had one of those. Can you do it now? He’d never been spanked. He want to know what it would feel like. She says, he found out what it felt like. She didn’t say if he ever asked for another experience like that, I don’t know. But I’ve never had a child that says, oh, dad, that felt so good. But he says in verse 11, now no chastening for the present seem to be joyous but grievous.

Nevertheless afterwards, It yielded the peaceable fruit of righteousness. In other words, God chases us so that we will do right. It’s not because he hates you, but because he loves you. And he wants you to do right. Now not everybody will. And so he says here in verse 15, when you don’t do right, you’ll resent God’s correction in your life because sometimes God uses people to rebuke you. God works through people. So sometimes God uses people to rebuke you.

Now, if you don’t handle that being rebuked well, then you’re gonna get bitter. And look what he says in verse 15, looking diligent lest any man fail of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled. Not only do you get troubled, you’re gonna trouble a lot of other people. And so he says, now, let me give you an illustration. Here’s a good illustration in verse 16. Less there be any fornicator or profane person as he saw, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

One little morsel of meat, some food to eat. He sold his birthright. Look what he could have had, but he forfeited it because. He was hungry. He despised the Bible says, he despised his birthright and was willing to give it away. Look what he says there in verse 17. And says, for ye know how that afterwards, when he would have inherited the blessing, he would have. He was the first born. But God knew in advance what he would do and said that the elder will serve the younger.

And there’s a reason why. Because God knows the end from the beginning. God didn’t have to make it happen, but God knows what happens and can tell us in advance what will happen. When he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected, not salvation, rejected from being the firstborn that would inherit it all the blessings. But it’s used to teach you and I something. Look at the last part of it. For he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

Now Isaac couldn’t change his mind after he had given the blessing to his brother Jacob. And once it was done, all the tears in the world is not going to change his mind and it couldn’t change your decision. You see, whenever we trust Christ as our Savior and God says that He will save me, if I trust Him, God can’t change His mind. He can’t say, no, I changed my mind. Oh, wait, wait, wait. You can’t do that. You’re God.

You’re perfect. You can’t do that. I made a mistake one time in an Indian camp and I said, look, God’s not an Indian giver. And then I realized what I said. And they really perked up and listened and heard what I said. And I had to talk and talk and try to get them on something else. I tried to tell a few jokes but I think that already done the damage. But even by the time of the week was over, they liked me a little bit.

I thought he was going to scout me while I was there. But he said, though he saw it carefully with tears. Now this is written here. To us as his children, God’s children. See, there’s things that you and I have because of our birthright. We’ve been born in the God’s family. Did you know that a lot of God’s children despise their birthright? Despise being a child of God by not serving God and reaping the blessings that we could have when we could have and the rewards for eternity that we could have and we thought all the way for a little morsel of temporary food here in this life.

See the parallel? God uses that story in the Old Testament and puts it over here to God’s people on how to live by faith. And so therefore, because you are a child of God, don’t, don’t fall that away. You’re a child of the King. He’s not dead. He knows everything that’s going on in God can work in your life in ways that you never dreamed before. So go back here to the book of Genesis. So he says that I’m going to bless you.

God renewed his covenant. Did you know it says in verse 17 of chapter 26 that Isaac, the part of that, and pitched his tent in the so forth, and in verse 18 Isaac digged again the wells of water. Digged the wells of water. You know my daddy dug wells. I remember standing on the edge of the thing and watching my daddy down there digging a well. Now he did a lot of other things too but he did do something good once in a while and they dug wells and I used to wonder how I never got to see how deep because where I saw he was still on dry ground but he would go down until they got down into the water and you go down down and that well that water would start filling up you know but I remember watching him.

So here you have where all these things are going on look in chapter 27 chapter 27 is where this incident takes place. And it didn’t have to happen the way that it did, but somebody despises birthright. So here you are. You’ve been out there hunting all day and you’re tired and hungry and you think, man, I’m going to die. So you sell your birthright for a mess a potage. Well, why did you eat that potage so that you could live?

Well, if you’re going to live, you just, you realize what you just paid. You don’t have to wait. It just cost you. And God said he would have inherited, I mean, God knows, he wouldn’t have died. He wouldn’t have died. Because he said if he hadn’t had done it, he would have inherited the blessing. But he made wrong decisions. And that’s the way most of the way. That’s why you have to, he says, when thou art, rebuke of God, faint not when thou art, rebuke, faint not.

This is what he did. He was ready to faint. He was ready to give it all up because he just thought he was going to die, not have anything to eat. And so this is why the Lord says, faint not. Don’t quit. When you faint, you pass out and you can’t do anything. So don’t be that just because God has to rebuke you. Listen, God has to rebuke us at times. He may rebuke me or you, but sometime he doesn’t do people.

And remember this, you don’t always understand everything in everybody’s life, why God does what he does. You’ll go crazy trying to figure it out. So you look down here and it says, in verse one, Isaac now daddy is that he’s going to die. Came to pass when Isaac was old and his eyes were dimmed so that he could not see, he called, he saw his eldest son. Said to him, son, I’m going to die. And he said, behold, here am I.

And he says in verse two, and he said, behold, now I am old. I know not the day of my death. Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver, and thy bow, and go out to the field and take me some venison. Evident, he loved, he loved venison. Now, I don’t think anybody fixes it better than my daughter. My daughter, she is the son every man wished he had. One year she killed eight deer. She’s already killed another man.

She’s been bow-hunting. That woman, she is, she’s a Daniel Boom. And, but if she can make that, that deer meat tastes just like steak, you can’t tell the difference. It is so good. So when we go up there, she fixes that for me. She loves her father, and I love that deer meat. So anyway, that’s what she does. But he loved it too. And he says, I want you to go fix me some. And he says in verse four, and make me savory me such as I love and bring it to me that I may eat that my soul, the before I die.

So he wanted to bless him. And that means he would get, and God God would honor the blessing that Isaac was going to put upon his son. And he wanted it now, but remember it, years before he sold his birthright. But maybe he forgot all about it. But Jacob hadn’t forgot it. And you had another problem. You had two boys. And Isaac, well, he loved Esau. And Mama, Rebecca, she loved him. She loved Isaac. Is it good for parents to have split loyalty?

No, it’s not good. Did they do it? Yes, they did. And probably helped contribute to all the problems. They probably didn’t have a very smooth running home. It probably had a few problems. And probably some kids fought against each other. And so anyway, typical family. And so he says here in verse 7, bring me venison and make me savory meat that I may eat and bless it before the Lord, before myDON. So anyway, he goes and does that. Well, there’s Mamaloo.

Mamaloo says to her son, listen, I know what your dad is going to do. Now this is what I want you to do. Get some skin and put it on you and make yourself feel like you’re really hairy because Esau was a hairy individual. But as he couldn’t see good, we’re kind of So he put some stuff on him all over, you know, probably try to smell himself up. So they smelled like a, you know, a bear from the woods and it got himself.

And mama went in there and she fixed up some venison so forth and brought it to him. And anyway, the story is one. Look at his head in verse 11. And Jacob said to Rebecca, his mother, behold, he saw my brother is a hairy man. smooth man. My father per adventure will feel me and I shall seem to him as a deceiver and I shall bring a curse upon me and not a blessing. And his mother said unto him, upon me be thy curse my son.

Only obey my voice and go fetch me then. And he went fetch then brought them to his mother and his mother made some savory meat such as his father loved. And Rebecca took goodly Raymond of her eldest son, Esau, which were with her in the house and put them upon Jacob, her younger son. And she put the skins of the goats upon his hands and upon the smooth of his neck. And she gave the savories meat and the bread, which she had prepared into the hand of her son Jacob.

And he came unto his father and his father, he says, Father, here am I, who art thou my son? Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau. Was that a lie? You can’t tell me he told a lie. He told a lie. I am Esau, thy firstborn. I have done according as thou made as me, arise, I pray, he sit and eat of my venison that thy soul may bless me. Now look what he said, Isaac said unto his son, how is it that thou has found it so quickly, my son?

And he says, because the Lord thy God brought it to me. bringing God into the picture. God did it. It was a lot. But anyway, one lie usually lead to another lie, doesn’t it? Was there any problems in Jacob’s life after this because of this? Esau says, I’m just gonna kill him and he ran. And for years he was gone. And finally he came back and was scared to death that Esau was going to kill him and he saw didn’t kill him.

But look at the years that it cost him because of the dissection. How does a price to pay? You don’t use to get away with too much. God may have worked it out another way we don’t know. But God knows what he’s doing. And he says in verse twenty one and Isaac said in the Jacob, come here I pray thee that I may feel thee my son whether thou be my very son isar not. Jacob went near unto his father and he felt him and he says, the voices Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

And he discerned him not because his hands were hairy. Well, down in verse 26 you have the blessing of Jacob. His father Isaac said unto him, come dear, kiss me my son. He came near and kissed him and he smelled the smell of the raimin and blessed him. And he says, see, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field, which the Lord hath blessed. So now in verse 28 and 29 is the blessing that he put upon his son.

Therefore God give thee of the do of heaven, the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine. Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee, be Lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee. be everyone that curses the and blessed be he that blesses the. See that was what he got from Abraham. And see that blessing passed on down. I will bless them that blessed thee and cursed them that cursed thee.

And so I want Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. And that’s why you over here by Abraham, Isaac and you call it confirmed that same covenant that God made. So the blessing was done. And then he came to pass lo and behold guess who shows up? Well, he saw shows up. And he came in and says, I’m ready to be blessed, but he realized what had happened. And in down in verse 33, or excuse me, look in verse 32, and Isaac, his father, said unto him, who aren’t thou?

He says, I am thy son, thy firstborn, he saw. And Isaac trembled very exceedingly and says, who? Where is he that have taken venison and brought it me? And I have eaten of all before thou came us and have blessed him, Yea, and he shall be blessed. You’re under like he shall be bled. It’s done. It cannot be read undone. Can’t be undone. So in verse 34, and Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, said unto his father, bless me, even me also my father.

This is where you read it in the book of Hebrews. God doesn’t want you and I going through what Esau went through. Serve the Lord now because later on you’ll wish you had. If you don’t serve the Lord now, they’re going to be weeping and bitterness and tears and you’ll wish you had of, but it’s too late. You can’t get your life back. Once you get through life, that’s it. You only get one trip through. No reruns, no instant replays, just one time and you got to make the right decisions as you go.

And if you make a wrong decision, correct it and make a right decision and serve them over whatever you can because if you don’t, there’s a price to pay and you’re not going to like So he made this statement here in verse 35 and he says, thy brother came with subtlety and have taken away thy blessing. I wonder if it came into his mind that I sold my birthright to my brother years before. I don’t know. And so in verse 36, the last line in verse 36 says, hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord and all his brethren have I given to him for servants. And with corn and wine have I sustained him. And what shall I do now under thee, my son? And he’s all said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing my father? Bless me even me also. Oh, my father and Esau wept lift up his foot and wept. And Isaac, his father answered and said to him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth and of the due of heaven from above.

And buddy, you talk about oil rich Arabs. See one got one thing, somebody got the other. And it says that Moses really wasn’t that good of a guide when he led the children of Israel out and went through all those deserts and came up to the Canaan land and gave them that land instead of giving them that oil rich land that belongs to Arabs. Well, God let him. And so, God’s will will be done. So what was the attitude now of Esau?

See there in verse 41? And Esau loved Jacob. Hated. He saw hated Jacob because of the blessing, where with his Father blessed him. And Esau said in his heart, the days of mourning for my Father are at hand. then will I slay my brother Jacob?” And these words of Esau, her elder son, were told to Rebecca. And she sent and called Jacob her younger son and said unto him, Behold thy brother Esau as touching the death comfort himself, proposing to kill thee.

Now therefore my son obey my voice and arise, flee thou to Laban, my brother, to Heron. And so now he has to leave. And Rebecca had says, you just do whatever I tell you to do. And he did. Did Rebecca have to also suffer consequences? Yes. For years. For years. Her favorite son was gone. See, there’s consequences of everybody’s decisions. Good and bad, there’s consequences. If you will put the Lord first and on the gun, you’ll be surprised what God will do for your life.

Look up here. This in Riverbew and me and the wallet represents sin. We all have sin upon us. God says that He loves us. He hates our sin. And for you and I to pay for sin is eternal separation from God. In hell. But God loves us and wants us to go to heaven and to go to heaven. We have to be perfect as righteous as God because heaven is perfect. God is perfect and we have to be perfect to go into heaven.

But we can’t because of sin. God will not allow us into heaven. So how can God get rid of the sin? Remember, the sin is not just the sin that I commit. It’s the sin nature that’s within me. I could take this away and I still can’t get in because you see the sin nature is still inside of me. I committed this because I am a sinner. So God has to give me a new birth, not change me, not change me, not send me to church and do all a good deed.

God has to give me a new birth. So this hand represents Jesus Christ, he’s the Lord, God in the flesh. He came into the world. He has no sin, no sin nature. So He has no sin. But Christ, because He loves us and He hates our sin, it says that He hates it because it separates us from Him. So what Christ did for us, He took our sins, paid for it on the cross, came back from the dead and said, if we would believe it, He would give us His righteousness.

And if God gave me His righteousness, then I would be as righteous as God. And I go to heaven if I’m as righteous as God. Well yes, that’s a righteousness that God gives to me by faith in what He did for me. And God says once you trust Him, He’ll never cast you out and never lose you. Best news in all the world. Let’s pray shall we? With every head bowed and every eye closed and no one looking around, if you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior.

Right now why don’t I just talk to the Lord and say something simple like this? Lord I know I’m a sinner. I don’t understand it all, but I know that I’ve done things wrong. I believe that Christ died, paid for my sins, and I’m going to trust Him this morning. There’s my only hope of going to heaven. Friend, I’m not going to have you forward. I’m not going to embarrass you. But right where you’re sitting, if what I said made sins, would you say, yes Lord, I will trust Christ as my Savior right now.

And friend, by doing that, God will give you eternal life as a free gift. And He’ll never cast you out, never lose you. And you can know that you’re going to heaven when you die. Would you believe it? Would you trust Him? If you will, would you just let me in a very quick and say, pray for me? I’ll trust Christ as my Savior this morning, and I’ll like you to pray for me. Is there anyone at all before we close?

If you’ve already trusted Christ as your Savior, do you see the responsibility of how all of us as God’s children are responsible to preach the gospel? One way or another, find a way, find a way. Because one day we’ll all stand before the Lord and give an account of ourselves. I won’t be judging you. You won’t be judging me. We all have our own heavenly Father and we’ll stand before him. And you don’t want to be ashamed before him and his coming.

Father, we do thank you for the stories that we find in the Old Testament because you’ve said in your word, the test monies of the Lord are true, making wise the simple, that we can gain knowledge from these experiences. Notice in how you work the consequences of our decisions. And as you said in the New Testament, that we should not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor faint-landow art rebuked of Him. So bless us, we thank You for letting Christ name.

Amen. Well, it’s a new month, and that means a new offer to those who support Bibleline.
