Now look at chapter five, chapter five. There’s a quick little story here about, Well, Lyssa’ana, little girl and a man named Naaman. See there in verse one, not Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria was a great man with his master. And honorable because by him, the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria. He was also a mighty man and valorant. But you ought to underline that last line. But he was a what? He was a leper.
He was on curable disease. There’s no way he can never be delivered from it. He needs a miracle. But they had taken captive a little Jewish girl. And notice in verse two, and the Syrians had gone out by companies and had brought away captives out of the land of Israel, a little maid. And she waited on Naaman’s wife. So here’s a little Jewish girl that was taken captive, and now she’s a little slave in somebody’s house. You see, God let all this stuff happen.
Didn’t God allow some guy named Joseph to be sold by his brothers? And then he wound up in a prison and next thing you know, he’s in Pharaoh’s house. And God raised him up, but God let all that happen. See, God allows us to go through some very bad things sometimes in life, but he’s teaching us and preparing us and there’s timing. The timing has to be right. And so that’s why I was always talking about be patient with the Lord.
Wait on God’s timing. You just be faithful to do what you’re supposed to do and you trust the Lord to open up the doors. And next thing you know, you just be surprised how God works things, but let God do it. And so the Bible says here in verse two, there’s this little girl in verse three, and she said under her mistress, would God, my Lord, were with the prophet that is in Samaria, for he would recover him of his leprosy.
Now this little girl didn’t know everything, but this little girl knew there’s a man of God. There’s a man of God in Israel. And if he wouldn’t seen him, he could be cured and recovered of his leprosy. Did the little girl believe in God? Believe in miracles? She did. And she knew about this. So you think it’s possible for the sake of a good story, God may allow all these things to happen and for Him to get leprosy and for the little girl to be taken captive and God knows what she knows and what she’s going to say and all the time and of it.
Do you believe in the providence of God that God moves in the affairs of man? I do. And anyway in verse 4, and one went in, told his And thus and thus said this made that is of the land of Israel. Now remember Israel is divided, you know, and there’s Israel’s capital Samaria. Then you had Judah and Benjamin, seven two tribes. But he says here in verse five, and the king of Syria said go to, I will send a letter unto the king of Israel.
Now she didn’t say the king of Israel. She says, the man of God that’s in Israel. See up there in that verse. Says, I know there’s a man of God. But anyway here in verse 5 and he departed and took with him ten talents of silver. And 6,000 pieces of gold, 10 changes of Raymond. And he brought the letter to the king of Israel saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, Behold, I have there with sent name and my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.
And it came to pass when the king of Israel had read the letter. He towards closing and says, Am I God to kill and to make alive? that this man does send unto me to recovery man of his leprosy. Wherefore consider I pray you and see how he seek at the quarrel against me. He just wants to start a war. Who do you think I am? Well, things do get interesting. Verse eight, and it was so when Elisha, the man of God, had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes?
Let him come now to mean, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel. So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots and stood at the door of the house of Elijah. Now, he expects Elijah, hey, do you know that’s the king of Syria out there? And you ought to see as entourage he’s got out there. And so he expected, you know, Elijah’s gonna come out the door and says, who? Well, it didn’t happen quite like that.
It doesn’t seem like Elijah was too impressed. So in verse 10, Elijah sent a messenger unto him. What? Saying, go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shall be clean. And naman was Roth, that means you’re very mad upset, and went away and says, Behold, I thought, now you see anything wrong with this? See, he has expectations of what he thought. Well, that’s not the way it’s going to happen. He’s, I thought he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord is God.
Strike his hand over the place and recover the leper. That’s what I thought. Well, it didn’t happen that way. And verse 12, are not Havana and Parpa. He says, rivers of Damascus better than all the waters of Israel. May I not wash in them and be clean. So he turned and went away in a rage. Now, this is also a store that’s been used many times and I’ve used it. When I used to be famous, we’re explaining to people that are your sinners.
And what God asked you to do sometime is so simple, but you can’t believe that it’ll work. You’re going to add something to it. Do something else. And now God says, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Well, that’s not good enough. That’s too easy. Surely there’s something else. No, that’s just all you got to do. And so we use this, show you this is how you become a child of God. As his flesh was going to be chained, he became a skin of a, wouldn’t you like to be said back in time in your skin?
Was it just like that a little baby? Not that small though. But nobody says, and verse 3, and his servants came near and spake unto him, and he says, my Father, if the prophet had bid thee, do some great thing, What does Thou not have done it? How much rather than when He saith to the wash and be clean? Then when He down and dipped Himself seven times in Jordan. Now just think each time you went to that’s number one, number two, I’ve been in the River Jordan.
It’s not a very clean river. I mean it’s just not a sparkling clean river. And I baptize in the river Jordan. And it’s not a big river. It’s not a wide river. It’s a narrow little river. And you would not think, how can this little little river have so many things that happen at this river? You know, where John the Baptist baptized, Jesus was baptized in Jordan. And when the children of Israel came up before they could go into Jericho, they had to cross the Jordan River and flood stage.
And so, you know, God just worked out so many things. And yet, this is just a little, little bitty river. So He says here, if you are to ask you to do something, so He went down into water. According to the saying of the man of God and His flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child and He was clean. And He returned to the man of God and He in all His company and came and stood before him.
And He said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all of the earth but in Israel. You see, that’s what God was after. God works in a strange way because if you read through Jeremiah and Ezekiel, you’ll find out about God. You know, know the Lord, know the Lord, to know the Lord that they may know that I am God over and over and over again. The purpose of why God does what He does is so that you’ll know I’m God.
And He’ll work in your life and some things you try to make happen and He won’t let it happen because God wants you to know, hey, where you? I’m God. You’re not God. There’s a lot of things you may want to do. Try to do. do it, you can’t do it because there’s the will of God. And yet if you’ll do what God says, do this, God can do this, God can do that, God can open up doors, closed doors.
God wants everybody know, hey, do you know who I am? Do you know who I am? So anyway, he says here, now I know. And so then he says, now therefore I pray they take a blessing of thy servant. Look, I’ve got all these camels here. I got these horses. They’re loaded. I’ve got all this gold and silver and all that stuff, he says, let me give you. Now, Elisha could have become a rich man, couldn’t he? He could have been a rich man.
All he had to do was understand that he’d have been, but he didn’t know anything about Joel at Westane and these other guys, you know, how to, you know, merchandise the product and become rich and all that stuff. No, he just, I don’t know what he says. He says in verse 16, but he said, as the Lord liveth, before whom I stand I will receive,” what’s that word? N-O-N-E. I will receive, well, just a little bit. He said, none.
And he urged him to take it, but he refused. And name and says, shall there not then I pray be given to thy servant to mules burdened of earth. Can I give to your servant. For thy servant will henceforth offer neither burn offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the Lord.” In other words, because he’s a good man and a God is a man. He’s not going to offer and sacrifice to any other God but the God of Israel.
Is this thing the Lord pardoned thy servant? That when my master goeth into the house of Raimim, to worship there any He leaned on it in my hand and I bow myself in the house of Rimim when I bow down myself in the house of Rimim, the Lord pardoned thy servant in this thing. And he said unto him, go in peace so he departed from him a little way. So now things are happening. Gahazi’s sin, the servant, he saw an opportunity here.
The servant of Elisha, the man of God, and says, Behold, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian in not receiving at his hand, that which he bought. But as the Lord liveth, I will run after him and take somewhat of him. Ah, I’ll go after him and I’ll get something.” So, Jahazi followed after Naaman and when Naaman saw him running after him, He lighted down from the chariot to meet him and says, is all well? And he says, all is well.
My master hath sent me. Is that a lie? Huh? That’s a big lie. My master have sent me, saying, behold, even now there be come to me from Mount Ephraim, two young men of the sons of the prophets, give them, I pray thee, a Talon of Silver and two changes of garments. And Naaman said, be content, take two talents. And he urged him and bound two talents of Silver and two bags, with two changes of garment, and laid them upon two of his servants, and they bear them before him.
And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house, and he let the men go and they depart it and everything’s wonderful. End of the story. No, no, no, that’s not quite over yet. But he went in and stood before his master and Elisha says unto him, Wentz, cometh thou, Jahazi, and he said, Thy servant, I didn’t go anywhere. No, does And he realized this is the man of God who was almost like he can read minds.
He knows things in advance. And he said unto him, went not mine heart with thee when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee. Is it a time to receive money and to receive garments in all of yards and vineyards and sheep and oxen and men servants and maidservants? The leprosy, therefore of namings shall cleave unto thee. And unto thy seed forever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow. Now wouldn’t he have been better off if he’d have just listened to the man of God?
But there is in every person, an element agreed. Most of us in here, if we thought we could get rich, we wouldn’t mind getting rich would we? If you could do it legitimately, you wouldn’t mind it right? But what if I got a measure of a measure of a number of years? million dollars and I wanted to give it to you. Would that be alright? That’d be alright. What if I wanted you to deny your faith? Just deny that you know the Lord.
For a million dollars. Well, you know, I wouldn’t have to really mean it. Could you compromise just a little bit? You’d be surprised what people will do for money. And that’s why we have to be always, always careful. Now, there’s many of these little stories that you’ll read going through here. And some of them are very interesting and you think, man, wouldn’t it have been neat if I’d have lived back then and saw some of that? Now, I want you to take your Bible and turn all the way over there to the book of Luke, in the book of Luke.
And I’ll tell you what chapter, just as soon as I get there, in the book of Luke, and chapter I want you to look there at a scripture with me here. This is on page 1077 when the Lord had gone into the temple. And on the Sabbath day, as the Bible says, was His custom, He stood up to read. And that’s mentioned in verse 16. In verse 17, and there was delivered unto Him the book of the prophet, Isaiah.
And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written. The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set it liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Now we know when we go back to the book of Isaiah that it stops reading right in the middle of the verse.
There’s another part of the verse which is a reference to the, this is the acceptable year of the Lord. But the other part was, this is the days of vengeance which you’ll find in the book of Luke chapter 21. I believe it is on over there. The rest of that verse because talking about the judgment of God upon the year. So when Christ came the first time it was the year of visitation. The time when they were supposed to accept the Lord.
He come and visited the year. He He came to visit and yet he was rejected. So he says in verse 20, and he closed the book and he gave it again to the minister, said down. And the eyes of all of them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him and he began to say unto them, this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. I mean, you are living at the moment, this scripture prophesied about this is that day.
Here I am. been reading about me and studying about me and here I am.” So he says here in verse 21, this day is this scripture in verse 21, and all bear him witness and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth and they said, is not this Joseph’s son? And he said to them, ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician healed thyself whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum do also here in thy country, but because of their unbelief, many miracles he did not do.
And he says, Verily I send you no prophet is accepted in his own country. But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, or Elijah. When the heaven was shut up, three years in six months, when great famine was throughout all the land. So he’s telling him about a story about in the days of Elijah. But under none of them was Elijah. So sometimes you think Elijah was sent to this one little woman that was running out of food, no oil, and all of a sudden her crews of oil kept producing and she had all the flour to last for those three and a half years.
But it says, well, you think, well, he probably did that in a lot of places. None. He says it only happened in one place, one time. And says unto none of them was Elijah’s hand. Save unto Seraphtha, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. And many lepers were in Israel. Many lepers in Israel. In the time of Elisha, the prophet, none of them was cleansed, saving name and the Syrian. So here’s Jesus and he knows more than even what’s revealed in the scriptures back there because he’s God He says of all those widows There was only one that this miracle happened to and of all those that were with leprosy in Israel He cleanses a man that was a Gentile in Another country Syria He says That was cleanse, saving Naaman the Syrian.
And all they were in the synagogue when they heard these things were filled with joy to know that he was in their presence. And they were all excited and filled down and worshiped him. What did they want to do to him? He just told him. He said, that only happened one time, one place where they lied to him. And that only happened one time and one place with one man with Naaman. And these scriptures that I just read to you can only happen one time and here it is and this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears and what you’re going to do about it.
Boy. And they says in verse 29 and rose up and thrust him out of the city and led him unto the Braava here upon which the city was built where they may cast him down headlong. What did you think it was going to do to him? They They wanted to kill the very one and hear where were they? They were in the synagogue. Religious people study in the word and reading the scriptures that told about him. And here he is.
You know, some people just don’t get it. And as he says in the book of Acts, they fulfill the scriptures in condemning him. In crucifying them, they fulfill the very scriptures that they read every Sabbath day. You think some people would learn, but it says in verse 30, but he passing through the midst of them went his way. Powerful stuff, interesting stuff. Did you realize that in your lifetime, you’ll be surprised how important just certain kinds in your life were important.
You realize the enough said this before, all right, I’m 73 years old, only one time in 73 years, one man witnessed to me. And since then nobody ever has. And think of how many places that I’ve been and nobody’s ever talked to me about my soul. And I go all over the, I go everywhere. But nobody witnesses to me. I think well, where’s all these soul winners? Nobody ever talks to me. I mean nobody even gives me a having track.
A very place that I’ve been, nobody witnesses to me. Do they want me to go to hell? They must know me real good. But that one time, that one in book, and just that one time that me and Betty ran away and got married 55 years ago, there’s just events and they’ll never be reproduced. And you’ll have things that will happen in your life and some things you’ll have it here and have it here and this will all be a blur.
Sometimes they’re good things and they can be bad things and then some things they’re just blur but some things are clear as a bell in your mind and some things you can remember and you’d love to forget whatever that might be. Look up here. This hand represents you and me. The wallet represents all of our sins. We all have sin on us. God loves us but He hates our sin. Now for us to pay for sin is eternal separation from God in hell.
But God God loves us. God doesn’t want us to go to heaven. He wants us to go to heaven. But to go to heaven we have to be perfect. Because righteous is God. Nobody is perfect. We’ve all sinned. We’ve all come short of God’s perfection. And so because of sin we can’t get in. So the Bible says we cannot save ourselves. So we can’t do anything to get to heaven because we’re already condemned, found guilty. We’ve got a debt to pay.
So we can’t go to heaven. It’s impossible. Nothing we do can get us to heaven because we have a debt to pay and that’s eternal separation from God. We’re all in the same boat. So unless God does something, there’s nothing we can do. So Jesus Christ, this hand represented Jesus Christ, God in the flesh came into the world because He loves us. He displayed His love toward us and while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Not when you were the saint, he did it while you were yet a sinner.
So Christ, who had no sin, didn’t have to die. So he took all the sin, of all the world, paid for them to cross, came back from the dead. He said that if you and I would believe that he did that for us, he would put that payment to your account, and we would go to heaven on what he did. 55 years ago, I heard this message for the first time. I was 18 years old, so I trusted Jesus Christ as my Savior.
I heard that I could not save myself. I thought I was pretty good, and I had to repent, change my mind. I cannot save myself. So I had to change my mind and trust Christ as my Savior. I repented. You see, if you are an unbeliever and you believe you had to change your mind. True? So I can lead a lot of people to the Lord without ever telling them to repent. But I can tell a person who’s lost, you need to change your mind.
You need to believe on Jesus Christ. You don’t believe it now. Will you believe it? And when you believe that, He gives you as a free gift everlasting life. You go to heaven on what Christ did for you. So change your mind and believe it. That is what God wants you to do as a result of your change in your mind. So if you’re here today and you think that your good life is going to get you to heaven, change your mind.
If you think giving money, singing an inquire, being a deacon, or not sure, whatever. I love my husband and my wife and kids. Well that’s wonderful, but that doesn’t save you. You need a Savior. And Jesus Christ is the only Savior there is. See, we can’t save ourselves impossible. That’s why you don’t have to turn from your sin. He paid for it. What He wants you and I to do is believe He did it for us. That made sense to me.
So I trust that Christ is my Savior years ago. And that’s how I know that I’m going to heaven whenever I die. Let’s pray, shall we? With every head bowed and every eye closed, and no one looking around. If you’ve never done so, today would be a perfect day. This would be a good moment for you to truly trust Jesus Christ and Him alone as your only hope of going to heaven. I’m gonna ask you in just a moment to raise your hand.
Raising your hand doesn’t save you. I’m not gonna have you forward. I’m not gonna embarrass you. But right where you’re sitting, if what I said made sense to you, say preach to that made sense to me. And I wanna be certain I’m going to heaven. And right now, I do change my mind. I’m gonna trust Christ in Him alone as my only hope of going to heaven, and I’d like for you to pray for Him. Friend, would you just slip your hand a very quickly and put it right back down?
Not gonna embarrass you, not gonna point you out, not gonna have your stand up coming forward, but right where you are. Did it make sense? Will you trust Christ as your Savior? And what at all? Let’s pray, Shavir. Father, once again, we thank You for the opportunity We have to come and study a word. We ask your blessings upon the reading and the study of your word and help us to appropriate these things so that we can have greater faith.
The faith, whatever comes down the road and the way to point you to trust you, to believe on you. In Christ name we pray, Amen.
