We’re in the 22nd chapter of the book of 2 Kings. second Kings. But I’m going to start in the 20th chapter because you know when you finish up with Hezekiah. Now last week I’m assuming that you were taught a little bit about Hezekiah. Is that right? A little bit about Hezekiah. We should always tell the kids in ranch that came for the first time. Take your Bible and turn to the book of Hezekiah and then there’s always somebody trying to find a book of Hezekiah.
Well, there is no book of Hezekiah in the Bible, but Jesus, our Hezekiah, could have wrote a book and probably did, but you’re not going to find it in the scriptures. But it’s a wonderful story, but he had gone a little bit too far and God gave him some more time to live. And the time that God gave him to live, he had a son. But then he also did did something a little on the stupid side. There were some people that had heard he had been sick.
So here in 2 Kings chapter 20, look in verse 12. At that time Barodak, a Baladon, the son of Baladon, king of Babylon sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. Wait a minute, he’s almost 800 to 1000 miles away and they didn’t have telegraph, telephone, tell a woman, they didn’t tell a star, they didn’t have none of that stuff. And he heard he had been sick. So he must have been sick for a while.
And they come, believe it or not, to bring presence to a king that had been sick. We’re so sorry you’ve been sick. We just traveled by a donkey and camel for almost a thousand miles. Round trip, almost two thousand miles. And to tell you that we’re so sorry to hear that you were sick. Well buddy, that sounds interesting. But notice what Hezekiah does. He does something that he shouldn’t have done. In verse 13, Hezekiah hearkened unto them, showed them all the house of his precious things, the silver and the gold and all of that.
He showed him everything that he had. So along comes, oh look there in verse 14, then came Isaiah the prophet on the King Hezekiah. Hey, what you’ve been doing? He said, nothing much. Nobody says, what said these men? And from whence came they under thee? Hezekiah said, oh, they come from a far country, even from Babylon. And he says, what have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, all the things that are in mine house have they seen.
There’s nothing among my treasures that I have not showed them. Now is it strange that a little while later the king of Babylon is going to come against Jerusalem? And he took everything that Hezekiah had showed him, took all of his treasures and took some captives back into Babylon. And that’s where you read about Ezekiel and Daniel and all those guys over there in Babylon. Well because Hezekiah had asked the Lord, Lord, I can’t praise you if I’m dead.
Let me live. So God gave him some more time to live. And he had a son and his son became the next king. So down there in verse 17, behold the days come that all that is in thine house and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day shall be carried into Babylon. Nothing shall be left, saith the Lord. And you’re going to have problems with your kids on down the line too. He says, and they’re going to be made eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
You know what Hezekiah had to say about all of this? I mean, there’s all this bad, bad news. Look what he said in verse 19. Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah. Good is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. Boy, you have really spoke something good. And he said, is it not good if peace and truth be in my days? That’s after me. But while I’m alive, I’m going to have peace and happiness and blah, blah, blah, blah.
It’sAltern be-,ascus bexxxxxxxx be good for me! But my poor sons, my grandsons on down the:# road, well, it’s gonna be bad for them. They’re gonna have their eyes put out. Someone’s gonna be killed, taking into captivity. But as long as it’s okay, you know where we are in America right now, we have people that are just about like this. As long as I get out of here in good shape, I can see bad things are coming down the road.
But at least if it doesnWASHINGTON happen to me. You have a whole bunch of kids in the grandkids. Yes, but then they’ll have to deal with that. But as long as everything’s okay for me, after all, we’re getting, some of us are getting old, testimon and chances are we donALSE to stay too healthy, because we’re going to die anyway. So as long as we canarijuana the final years of our life, let them worry about that, as long as it’s nice and peaceful in my day.
Of course, you don’t know any Christians that would think like that. Have you ever heard people say, you know what? I believe the Lord’s coming back so soon. I’m going to go out and borrow all the money I can. I’m going to get every bit of the equity out of my house that I can. I’m going to get so far deep in debt because after all, I won’t have to pay it back. The Lord will come back and I have had a blast.
What is maybe wrong with that thinking? The Lord may not come back, right? Remember in the first church, they went out and sold everything they had and took all the money and gave it to the apostles and help all the poor folks and in after a while Jesus didn’t come. Now they will have the take up offerings for the poor saints in Jerusalem. Oh well, have you ever asked the Lord to come back just so He can get you out of this mess down here?
is because you just love the Lord so much. You just can’t stand been away from them for another minute. That’s interesting. But the Lord does talk about those who love His appearing. But anyway, as you go on through here, looking verse 20, and the rest of the Acts of Hezekiah and all of his might, and how he made a pool and conduit and brought water into the city. I’ve been there. I have been taken down into these steps to this big old pool, down, and then there’s a cavern underneath and it is like a spring and so that’s how whenever they try to lay see they could last so long because they had water.
That’s the kind I did do a certain amount of good things and that pool is still standing there today and that conduit that he built underneath and to the carved through the rock so this is what he did but anyway verse 20 he died. He died now he has a son named So, Manasseh is going to rule. So, look at in verse 1 of chapter, how old was he when he began to rule? 12 years old. Now, you know what 12-year-old kid has a lot of wisdom.
Wouldn’t you love to have a king? Well, we got one that’s about like that today. But anyway, he was 12 years old when he began to reignRequires and reign 50 and 5 years in Jerusalem. Now, remember, there’s a division of the 12 tribes. 10 northern tribes had already been taken by Syria. So now you have Judah. And Judah is made up of tribe of Judah and tribe of Benjamin and Jerusalem. So now they’re talking about the kings of Judah.
And then sometimes you’ll read about the kings of Israel. They’re two different ones. And so sometimes it seems like they got the same name. But there’s a separation, division there. But what kind of a man was this boy? Well, you see there in verse 2, and he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, after the abomination of the heathens whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel. Now they had been warned in the Book of Deuteronomy not to go after the gods of the heathen.
Not to listen to them, not to let them into their land. They were not supposed to do it. But you see, they got away from the Word, got away from the Word. And so whenever you read in the book of Judges, every man did that which was right in his own eyes, and so God had to send them judges. Well now time has passed and they wanted a king. They got a king. And look at how old somebody kings are, because a king, well the next one that rules is going to be his firstborn son and the next one down the line.
Well, some of these kids are worth a quarter, but that’s what they wanted. They’re one of the king. And it’s amazing how that some of these kings are just, they’re not fit to live. So here he is and he was an evil man. And what did he do that was so wrong? Well, there’s the God of Baal and they would offer sacrifices. And so they had gross where they would raise things and offer them a sacrifice to their gods.
And so they had high places throughout the land and there was just no end to their wickedness. So what did he do in verse 3? He built up again the high places which has the Kaiya’s Father destroyed and he reared up altars for Baal. Is that a no-no? That’s a no-no. Verse 4 and he built altars in the house of the Lord, in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord said in Jerusalem, well I put my name, look at the blasphemy.
almost like living in America, what they’re doing. You know what was a shame and a disgrace is when they showed a picture of the rainbow colors of the White House. You’re talking about blasphemy, that’s exactly what it is. It’s an abomination. But anyway, looking in verse 6, and they made their children walk through the fire, some of them they sacrificed and monolters. They’d all kind of stupid, crazy. Would you believe that they would sacrifice children and even rip them apart?
Hey, what are we doing in America? Y’all saw that some of that video stuff they’ve been talking about and how wicked it’s been and how they’re talking about. They go in and they crush their head and they crush their legs and they try to leave some of the vital parts so they can sell them on the open market. This is what’s going on. America is sick and some people don’t see, well I don’t see anything wrong with it. Well if that baby was on the outside of the womb, what’s the difference if it’s on the inside of the womb?
It’s still a baby, still what it is, it’s a baby. It’s still a child and it’s murder any way you cut it. But anyway, looking for six, the Bible prohibited them from going and seeking out familiar spirits. Remember what happened to Saul and why he was killed because he sought the witch of Endor and he went and bring me up Samuel. Well, that’s something God says, stay away from. Go have anything to do with that. So he says in verse 6, and he made his sons pass the fire and observe times and use enchantments, dealt with familiars, wizard.
He rots a wickedness in the sight of the Lord to provoke him to anger. So does God get upset? Yeah, God gets upset. God gets mad. God gets mad. But see, a lot of things that happened didn’t have to happen. It’s because there’s consequences to people’s decisions. If you decide as an individual, as we read all these stories of what God said and what people did and the consequences, it’s supposed to make us wiser. We shouldn’t do what they do.
So we look what he says in verse 9. But they hearken not and manassas deduce them to do more evil than did the nations home the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel. Do you know why the Bible says that the children of the Amorites and all in the book of Genesis in chapter 15 says that I’m gonna send you down into a land and they’re gonna keep you there for about 400 years because the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
You know the people that was in the land that came them. So God says because they are so sinful. I’m gonna take you and use you to whoop those nations and destroy those nations and get them out of that land. And I’ll give you that land. Well, when they went in, yeah, they had to conquer these people.
Now, God says, you are more wicked than the nations that used to be here before you. So if God would take those nations and destroy them and get them out of land, what’s God gonna do to them? That’s why if God set on fire, sodoming Gamora, what in the world is he gonna do to America? Good one. Or not we follow them the same trail. And doesn’t matter what you say, people are bent on their wickedness. So we’ve allowed the few leaders in our school to teach our kids.
There is no God that evolution is true. So where is the restraint upon a person’s life? There is none. So then it’s every man for himself. Do what is right in your own eyes. Well, that’s what it is. So we’re in the same spot. They were in, and we keep doing the same old things. Never ends. Look down in verse 15. He says, because they have done that which was evil in my sight and have provoked me to anger since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.
In other words, they still as a nation have not followed me wholly. Even Joshua had some problems with it, Because the very generation that was the takeover after Joshua, they didn’t have to fight in the battles. And so the next generation was worse than Joshua’s generation. This is why if you’re dedicated to the Lord and you love the Lord with all your heart, chances are there’s a slim chance that your children are going to love the Lord as much.
And then their children, not as much, and their children not as much until the third and fourth generation. And then they’re going to be be just as wicked as anybody else in the world. And so it goes and it happens. Well look at verse 16, Moreover, Manasseh shed innocent blood very much till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to the other. We’re doing the same thing in America. Fifty five to sixty million babies have been murdered in America.
Now that’s a lot more people that have been since 9-11, and all the people have been killed since then. America, doing the women in America are murdering their babies. Who would ever have thought such a thing could ever happen? But they do it. Why? To cover us, sin. Cover us in. You said, well, the women’s choice. Why don’t you make the choice before the man ever touches you? What’s wrong with that choice. And then if you really believe that, why can’t you let the child be born?
Unless somebody raised that child if you don’t want that child. But the murder of the child, you say you shouldn’t talk so harsh. Oh yes I should. And I will not put any sad one at the zoo that didn’t say it in a nice sweet way. It’s a sinful wicked thing. We do what they did and God is going to be angry with America. Notice what he says here. In down in verse 18, Manasseh, well, he dies too. Now he’s dead and he has a son, his son’s name is Emon.
And look in verse 19, Emon was 20 and two years old when he began to reign. Really smart kid when you’re, you know, 12 and 22, look at verse 20. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord as his father, Manasadid. Now some people just follow, you know, whatever daddy does, that’s what they do. They walk in their footsteps. But not all the time. Sometimes there’s somebody that breaks the mold. Well, his servants slew him.
See there in verse 23. And the servants of Ammon come aspired against him and slew the king in his own house. And the people of the land slew all them that had conspired against King Nameth. And the people of the land made Josiah, his son, King and his dead. Now, how many of y’all know Freddy Coyle? He has a son. You know what his son’s name is? Josiah. Now, we don’t usually name our kids after some of these others.
They’re wicked. But we do name our kids Josiah. Josiah was a different breed altogether. Now here you are, D. and I, three and four generations later. When you came to only further bottom, sometimes they look for something better. And he wanted something better, but something was found that made all the difference in the world in this young kid’s life. And he was a young kid. So he began to reign. And last part of verse 26 and so, Emmon was buried and Josiah his son rained in the stead.
Now look in chapter 22. Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign. Eight. One was twelve. What was 22? This one is only eight years old. Now listen, eight years old and he rained for 31 years in Jerusalem. And looking verse two, something different. And he did that which was what? Right in the sight of the Lord. Walked in all the ways of David his father. Now David wasn’t his father, but on down the line, see, before he was ever born, he was in the line.
So they called the son of David. And then notice this, you know whenever you read the book of Joshua, it says, don’t move to the right hand or to the left hand but study thy word, meditate it the night word day and night that thou mayest prosper and whether so ever thou goeth and so on. For some reason they had not had the Word of God. Things had gotten totally out of hand. The priests could not be trusted. They became evil.
They no longer read the Word or taught the the people, the word. The king didn’t know the word and it was the prophets job to keep the king on track. So look what he says in verse 3 and it came to pass in the 18th year of king, you’ll say, so in the 18th year he heard some things. So he contacts Hylkiah, which is the high priest, see there in verse 4? go up to Hylkiah, the high priest, that he may son the total which is brought into the house of the Lord, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people.
So evidently they were collecting their temple tax. So now find out how much. Go up there and tell the high priest I want him to add it up, see what we got. And then I want to take that money and we’re going to rebuild the temple. We’re not rebuild the temple, but remodel it or you know keep it up and maintain it because things were in disarray. So in verse 5, and let them deliver it unto the hand of the doers of the work that have the oversight of the house of the Lord.
Let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the Lord to repair the breaches of the house. Carpenters and builders and masons and all that and they bought 10, and they got the work done. In verse 7, how did there was no reckoning made with them of the money? That was delivered unto their hand because they dealt faithfully. They had some good men, godly men, they could trust who got it done. So while this was going on, Hillkiah in verse 8, the high priest said unto Chef Anne, the scribe, I have found the book of the law and the house of the Lord.
So maybe it was under something, hid somewhere, things piled on top of it, dusted all over the place, but he found it. And he delivered it to the hands of them that do the work. They have the oversight of the house of the Lord. So in verse 10, and Chef and described, showed the kings and hillkiah, the priest have delivered me a book. And he ready before the king. This must be a good book, an interesting book. This book changed everything.
Remember, the people had gotten away from the Lord. A number of kings had come, a number of kings were bad, and the people were gone astray, and doing all kind of wicked things throughout the whole nation. And they found the book. I wonder what was in this book. maybe it was a comic book. Maybe it was a book on how to improve your life. You know, 10 E. U. A’s. Look what he says in verse 11, and came to pass when the king had heard the words of the book of the law that he ran his clothes.
And the king commanded hill-kai the priest. And he told him, he says, this is what I want you to do in verse 13. Go ye inquire of the Lord for me. going to inquire the Lord for me. For the people, for all Judah, concern the words of this book that is found. For great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us. And I’ll get the reason because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book.
To do according unto all that which is written concerning us. We messed up. Our fathers before us. They didn’t do right. They didn’t read the word. They didn’t know the word. They didn’t obey the word. They had lost the word. But now they found the word. And this is probably, you know, like the first five books, maybe Joshua and a few others, and lo and behold, they found the book. So they decided that they’re going to read this thing to all the people.
So look at verse 15. And there was a prophetess, a woman. She said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me, thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah had read. Because they have forsaken me, have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, Therefore my wrath shall be kindle against this place and shall not be quenched.”
But now notice what he says about the king of Judah. But to the king of Judah, which sit you to inquire of the Lord, Thus shall ye say to him, 753 Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hath heard, And see how God is going to do something with this man, Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord. When thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hath rent thy clothes and wet before me, I also have heard thee, saith the Lord.”
Now look at this verse 20. Now you need to understand sometimes, you can always figure out why God does certain things. I have something I’m going to read that I had written some time back about Dr. Curtis Hudson. Now he was eight years older than I was, but I had a lot of love and respect for this man because he took the gospel-driven man to a new level as far as with the independent badness. He really wanted them to see and understand the clarity of the gospel.
And so because of this, I don’t know why God took him home. And I’m often wondering why, Lord, if there’s anybody I would take home with all those other nuts, it won’t do what he’s doing. But why you take the good man’s doing a good job? I mean, here’s Hank doing a good job. He’s clear on the gospel and one of the greatest soul owners, and you take him home and you’ll leave some of those other nuts around. I just have trouble figuring out why God does things.
But God knows down the road, doesn’t he? You’re supposed to know. And you wonder why sometimes he allows certain things to happen in your life. Well look what he says here. Verse 20 is verse you need to underline in your Bible. Behold, therefore, I will gather the unto thy fathers. Now what do you think that means? I’m going to gather you to your fathers. What do you think that means? going to die. I’m going to take you out of here.
And thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace. Thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. You’re not going to have to see all the evil that I’m going to bring upon this place. So I’m going to be generous to you. I’m going to take you home first. Now, is it possible that God knows what’s coming down the road for various people? And because of God’s mercy and grace, He could take you home ahead of time to spare you something that’s coming?
