God intended for Israel to be a light to the Gentile nation upon the face of the earth. And Israel has not been that light that they should have been in all these years. Now one day they are going to do it, but it’s going to be in the Kingdom because Israel has been so rebellious. And God had to chase them over and over and over again. Just think from the time that they were taken by the Assyrians, the 10 tribes made in Israel, capital in Samaria.
They were taken into captivity. And then years later then here comes Nebuchadnezzar from Babylon and he takes the southern two tribes made of a Judah. Capital in Jerusalem and took them into captivity. And all those years Israel has never had a king. Israel hasn’t had a king since then. So when Christ was here he was the king but they didn’t accept him as king. Two thousand years since then they still do not have a king. During the tribulation period they still don’t have a king.
Not until Jesus Christ comes back again. Then there’s the king of Israel. But all those years, twenty four hundred years Israel has been without a king. It didn’t have to be like that. It’s because of rebellion. But God is going to keep His word and He’s to unturned things around you watching scene. Now look down here in verse seven. For what nation is there so great who hath God so nigh unto them as the Lord our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
In other words, do you realize Israel, the advantage that you have? No nation has a God like you got. Talking about himself. Look what I did for you. Look how close I am to you. And then they turn against him for some other unknown God. So he says there in verse eight. And what nation is there so great that has statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law which I set before you this day? You know what made America so great?
Is because our founding fathers took these principles from this book and established our country, our government. And when the people around the world heard about the freedom and the liberty that we have, everybody envied America. There was a time when people envied America. And America was great because we honored God. Now, we are a melting pot for all religions, And it doesn’t matter what you believe. Do anything you want, live any way you want. And America has turned its back upon God after all the goodness that God has done for us.
It’s enough to break your heart. Look what he says in verse 9. Only take heed to thyself and keep thy soul diligently. Let thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen. Unless they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life, but teach them to thy sons, and thy sons sons. Especially the day that thou stood as before the Lord thy God in horrib, when the Lord said unto me, the Lord said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, my words.
That they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth and that they may teach their children. This is why we want freedom in America so that we can teach our children and grandchildren the truth of the Word of God. But see, they’ve just about it got it to where you have to send your kids to the government schools and have humanist educators taste them in everything but the Bible. And then you have to be forced to pay them to do it.
We’re paying for our own destruction because you cannot preserve a nation if you cannot preserve the education of the children. And we gave our children to the government to raise. I have some time people wonder, why are you getting so political? I can’t read the Bible while I get it political. It affects the way you live. It affects our government. It affects everything that we have, everything that we do. Well, anyway, those are my humble opinions. Taking a Bible and looking to book the numbers, the book of numbers, the book of numbers in chapter 33, numbers 33, numbers 33, and looking in verse 1 and verse 2.
Verse 1, 2. It’s like Moses was told by God to keep a journal of all your journeys. You know, where are you going? It’s like some women like to keep a diary. I have never kept a diary in my life. But look at verse 1, these are the journeys of the children of Israel, which went forth out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron. Look in verse 2, and Moses wrote their goings out according to their journeys by the commandment of the Lord.
And these are their journeys according to their going out. So the Lord told them what to do and they were to do it. So he gave them an order, told them, this is what I want you to do. And he wrote, and later on what he wrote, God says the law of Moses, the law of God, it’s the same thing. And that they were to trust what the scripture says. Remember there’s a statement in the book of John where Jesus made the statement, he believed in Moses, you say?
Moses wrote about me. If you believed Moses, you would believe me. but they didn’t believe what Moses said. He says, you think you have eternal life, but you will not come into me that you may have eternal life. Eternal life was in Him and they were rejecting Him. So this was the problem. Exodus, look in the book of Exodus in chapter 17, Exodus chapter 17. Generally when I covered the book of Exodus in chapter 17, I’m always talking about Amalek because Amalek was somebody they had to have a battle with.
And so this is where Joshua and Aaron, they held up his arms and also Moses and Aaron and her, they got together and they held up his arms and Joseph was to do some of the fighting. But the battle went on and it raged for a while. But look down here in verse 14. Verse 14, He makes his statement, and the Lord said unto Moses, write this for a memorial in a book and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua.
For I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. So he did what he was supposed to do, And then years later we have Joshua reading these things from the book of Moses. And so look in chapter 17 of the book of Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy chapter 17. Deuteronomy 17 and look in verse 14. You’ll notice that in Deuteronomy chapter 17 and started there in verse 14, we go down a little bit of a ways to see these things because he’s telling them, before they ever got into the land.
The Lord already knew in advance that the people were going to ask for a king. He told Moses that. See there in verse 14? When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. And shall possess it, shall dwell therein, and shall say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me. Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee whom the Lord thy God shall choose. One from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee, thou mayest not set a stranger of thee, which is not thy brother.
we should have heeded that. But anyway, but he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt to the end that he should multiply horses for as much as the Lord have said unto you. Ye shall henceforth return no more that way. It was not the way of God. Don’t you ever go back down in Egypt. That’s kind of like God telling us, don’t go back to the flesh. Don’t go back to the flesh.
I saved you, severed you from the first birth if not, don’t ever go back and live like you’re still in the first birth and let the old sinful nature have dominion over you. But anyway, there’s a message here somewhere. Now look what he said in verse 18, and it shall be when he said it upon the throne of his kingdom, the king, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priest the Levites.
In other words, the king was to write a copy of the law and keep it in his own possession. Therefore they knew he had a copy of the law, he knew the law, he had to read the law because he had to make a copy of the law. Now buddy that’s pretty strong in them. But this is what God told them to do. Verse 19, and it shall be with him and he shall read therein all the days of his life that he may learn to fear the Lord his God to keep all the words of this law and these statutes and do them all the words of this law.
Do you believe that every word was important? Or it was just the thought. I believe that he had to copy every word and I believe he had to copy it word for word. I believe he had to get it right. And then he says up there in this last verse 20, that his heart be not lifted up above his brethren and that he turned not aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left. Remember this is what it says also about Joshua when he became the next leader of the children of Israel that thou must meditate in thy word day and night that they you know you may prosper and have good success and be strong and very courageous for I will be with you as I was with Moses.
This is what he’s talking about. And look at the end of verse, to the end that he may prolong this days or his days in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel. See, this is what you’ve got to do to go to heaven. But this is because as a nation to have God’s blessing, now there’s a lot of things in the Word of God that tells us how we’re supposed to live. nothing about how we live gets us in the glory.
That’s by faith alone. Salvation has always been by faith alone in what Christ did. They look forward to the Messiah coming and this is why even when you study the New Testament you find out they were looking for the Messiah. They talk about, yes, we heard the Messiah but he’s supposed to suffer and blah blah blah and it’s all there. They knew that and there wasn’t one word of the New Testament written yet, but they knew that and they hadn’t been anything written for the 400 years in between the book of Malachi and the book of Matthew.
So these things were done and they were taught. Look in chapter 31, Deuteronomy chapter 31, just a couple verses here that I want you to see, Deuteronomy chapter 31, look down in verse 9, and Moses wrote this law, delivered unto the priest the sons of Levi, which bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and unto all the elders of Israel. Moses commanded them, saying at the end of every seven years, in the solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles, when all Israel is come to appear before the Lord thy God in the place, which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing, all of them.
And then he says, gather the people together, men, women and children. And thy stranger that is within thy gate that they may hear and that they may learn and fear the Lord your God and observe to do all the words of this law. What did it say? All the words of this law. So when you have the New testament prophets in Christ referring to the law, the prophet in the Psalms, I believe he referred to all the words of the law.
And that I believe that it is important. In verse 13, and that their children, which have not known anything, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land, whether you go over Jordan to possess it. Now they haven’t got there yet, but they’re on their way. Now turn to Joshua in chapter eight. You probably figured sooner or later you’re going to go to Joshua. Chapter eight. And look there in verse 31.
They’re now in the land Joshua is their leader, their commander in chief. You see that in verse 30 then Joshua verse 31 as Moses the servant of the Lord commanded the children of Israel as it is written in the book of the law of Moses and altar in verse 32. and he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel. And all Israel and their elders and officers and their judges stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests and the Levites, which bear the ark of the covenant of of the Lord as well the stranger, as he that was born among them, half of them over against Mount Durism, and half of them over against Mount Ibo, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded before.”
Now get as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded before that they should bless the people of Israel. Now verse 34 and 35, very important verses. And afterwards he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law. There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women and the little ones and the strangers that were conversant among them.
So was Joshua fulfilling the law that was given to Moses? He was doing exactly what God told him to do. And they haven’t got a king yet, but later on the kings had to write a copy. Whether they all did it or not, we know there was some bad kings. They didn’t seem to understand what they were supposed to do. They violated the Scriptures for a while they couldn’t even find a copy of the Scriptures. And even Jeremiah the day they found one, but anyway that’s another story.
Now take your Bible look in Joshua chapter 1. Joshua chapter 1. If the first five books of the Bible cannot be trusted, then none of the Bible can be trusted. Because all of those in the New Testament put their stamp of approval upon the Old Testament and upon what these men had said. Now we could get into the book of Daniel. Where Daniel in chapter 9 and verse 2 was reading from the book of Jeremiah, where Jeremiah told him, says, it will be 70 years for the captivity of Judah to be in Babylon, and then they will come back.
And that’s how he knew, and that’s what determined the prayer that he prayed in chapter 9 of the book of Daniel. Now here in the book of Joshua chapter 1 verse 2, Moses, my servant, is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou in all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel, every place that the soul of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said in the Moses.
From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even unto the great river Euphrates, do you know where that is, the river Euphrates? That’s way over there in Babylon area. You talk about the Tigris and the Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites unto the great sea, toward the going down of the sun shall be your coast. There shall not any man be able to stand before the all the days of thy life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
I will not fail the nor for safety. You know, this ought to be a little bit of an encouragement for Joshua taking up on this thing, but he walked with Moses for 40 years and he saw what God did. See, God prepared him for the day, then when he was going to be gone, somebody else could take a trip right in there. But he says, as I was with Moses, I will be with you. Now we’d like to take these verses from the Old Testament.
They’re not really written to us, but they’re for us. We can receive a lot of admonition from the promises and so forth in the Old Testament. And when it reveals the character of God and how stable he is and how he works. And if we do right, then God will bless. If you do wrong, God’s going to chase him. Well, that same teaching is taught in the New Testament. And so you look at this and think, my stars, look there in verse 6, be strong and of good courage.
For unto this people shall without divine for an inheritance the land, which I swear unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous. But when he keeps telling him to be strong and very courageous, be strong and very courageous, what does he want him to do to be strong and very courageous. It’s the rest of this, the two verses. You see what it says? Only be thou strong in verse 7 and very courageous that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law which Moses, my servant, commanded thee.
Turn not from it to the right hand or to the left. That was written back there in the Old Testament. We read just a minute ago that thou mayest prosper whether so ever thou goest. Now look in verse 8. be strong and very courageous. It’s because of the Word. You’ll know what He promised. You know what He’ll do. And when you study it, it tells you the blessings and the cursing. And if you obey God, oh bless, if you don’t, He’ll curse.
Therefore you have to be wise. And He says here, turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou may as prosper, whether so or ever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein once a year, every once in a while, when you feel like it.” No, no, no, no, no, no, what he says, but isn’t that what we do though? We’re so busy. We don’t have time to ever read the Bible.
We’re just too busy. Look what he says in verse 8, This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate there in day and night that thou may it’s observed to do, according to all that is written therein. For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, then thou shall have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage. Be not afraid. Need to be thou dismayed, for I, the Lord thy God is with thee.
Whether so ever thou goest. Between verse 9 and verse 6 is the Word of God. Now when you read over there in the book of 2 Timothy chapter 3, when he talks about the Word of God is inspired by God and so forth and is for everything that we need, for correction, for instruction, all these things that it’s for and the verses before that talks about that from a child that has known the Holy scriptures. And then he talks about being made into a man of God.
The only thing that lies between a child of God and a man of God is the Word of God. So the child of God is the study of the Word of God so he can be a strong man of God that needs not being afraid. This is the same principle that he’s telling them back here in the book of Joshua. You have the Word of God. Read it and study it. Look up here. Let this hand represent you and me.
The wallet represents sin. We all have sin upon us. God says that He loves us. But He hates our sin. But He loves us. But to pay for sin is eternal separation from the Lord. But God doesn’t want us to be separated from Him. He says to go to heaven, we’d have to be perfect as righteous as God. And none of us are perfect. None of us are righteous. We have all sinned and comes short of God’s perfection. So man, regardless of how much he tries, can never be good enough to get into heaven.
Because all the goodness that he could do can never take away the sin. This end represents Jesus Christ. He’s the Lord God in the flesh. He came into the world because he loves us. Now he hates our sin because it separates us from him. So Jesus Christ who had no sin did not have to die. He took all of our sins and paid on the cross. He came back again from the dead. And God said if we would believe that He did it for us, He would give us eternal life as a free gift.
You know, when Christ took all of our sins, paid for them on the cross. Jesus Christ in doing that for us was rejected by the Father and is as why have you forsaken me? And when we stop and think about that, that if anybody should go to hell in the future, it should be the one that has all the sins. If Christ never came back from the dead, He died in vain if nobody ever believed it. But look how many people are trying to earn the way to heaven.
Labor and in vain. Christ died in vain. This is why it’s so important to tell the truth of the gospel. Jesus Christ would still be in the grave because he had all my sins. If he had not come back from dead. We would have never known that it was acceptable. Did you remember something that the two disciples said when they were walking with Christ? This is he whom we thought would be the Redeemer of Israel. Matthew, I mean Luke 24, remember that?
We thought he was the one. And when he died on the cross, they still had questions and doubts because they knew he was dead. It wasn’t until he came back from the dead that they had all this assurance. Now they knew he came back from the dead. And he said, if we believe he did it for us, he would put that payment on our account and we get to go to heaven on what Christ did for us. Best news in all the world.
Let’s pray, shall we? With heads bound, nice clothes, no one looking around. If you have never trusted Christ as your Savior, I pray that you wouldn’t. Or if you’re watching by internet, and I’ve really been pleased that we’ve had somebody virtually every day that trusts the Lord somewhere because of listening to the messages on the internet. But tonight you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior. I want you to believe that when He died, He died for you. And that the only thing you have to do is believe He did it for you and if you will, he will save you and give you eternal life.
You can do that right where you are. And if you will trust the Lord, right on the screen, he says, yes, I will trust Christ as my Savior. We’d love to know. Our Father, we thank you again for your blessings. Thank you for all you do for us. We thank for the free gift of everlasting life that no man can earn it, can’t work for it. And it’s simply a gift that you offered it, whosoever would believe it. With the heads to about now close.
Is there anyone here tonight saying, you know, that made sense to me. And I want to be certain I’m going to heaven when I die and preach out life for you to pray for me in closing. So yes, I will trust Christ right now as my Savior. If you will do that, would you just flip it up very quickly and put it right back down? It won’t all. If you’ve already trusted Christ to save you, you never have to do it again.
Is anywhere at all? Our Father, thank you so much for this time together. We ask Your blessings upon each person here. Thank You for their faithfulness. Use them that you’re on enduring Christ’s name we pray. Amen. Have you heard about Bibleline Institute, the online Bible College of Bibleline Ministries?
