Now down at the bottom of the page, additional prophecies about Christ and their fulfillment. Now these are not as major as those other ones up there at the top of the page, those other seven. Those seven up there are ones you need to learn. The other ones down below are things you can use, but there’s not, I don’t believe, as critical. They’re not going to make that big of a difference. But it might satisfy you and you need to be convinced.
See, it’s easy to convince somebody else when you are convinced. If you really believe in Ephesians 2, 8, 9, it’s easy to tell somebody about Ephesians 2, 8, 9. If you really know you have eternal life and really know you’re going to heaven when you’re dying, it’s not so hard to tell people about that. Something you really know, something you really believe. But if you got dalped and so forth about your own salvation, you wonder about this, wonder about that, and you don’t have any answers and you’re not rock solid, it’s hard for you to stand the way you ought to stand.
But look at number one. The Bible says that he would be sold for 30 pieces of silver in Zechariah. Well the scripture that fulfills that and shows you that is Matthew chapter 26. You say well how come Jesus could not have just made himself do all of this because he studied the Bible and he found out I’ve got to do this and I’ve got to do this and I’ve got to do that and so he made himself like he was the Messiah.
He wasn’t really the Messiah but he kind of stole all this information and got it in there and he fooled the people. Could you make yourself born of the right nation? Could you make yourself be born of the right tribe? And could you make yourself be born in the right city? Could you make yourself be born of the right lineage? And could you make yourself have the ability to walk on water and provide all those fish sandwiches for everybody?
I mean, can you make the lame to walk and the blind and say, well, he just did that to what? He did that. He was able to do all of those things. And did he make the whole nation, he made the whole nation reject him. Now he was pretty good, what did you have to admit? The God was pretty good. He fought the whole nation and the killing them, because he wanted them to kill them so he could pretend like he was the Messiah.
Did you ever think maybe he was? Don’t you think that’s going to be a crude awakening for some people when they find out he really was who he claimed to be? And they wish not who it was. didn’t recognize him. In the day of his visitation, they did not know him. So here in number two, be trade by a friend Psalms 41.9, a reference to Judas’ carrier that he would be betrayed by a friend. And number three, silence before his accusers.
Isaiah 53.7, there’s several that you need to see here, so turning your Bible to Isaiah and 53. Become very familiar with the 53rd chapter of Isaiah because there’s so much in this chapter about Christ written on with 700 years in advance that you will be able to use. There’s a lot of information here and so you need to understand that. So you notice there in the book of Isaiah 53, looking verse 7, He was oppressed, he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth.
He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheet before her shears is done, so he opened not his mouth. Now does that tell you that he was like a lamb? Remember John, the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world? A lamb doesn’t even fight. A lamb is easily led. And they did anything they wanted to do with him. You see, they spent about four days examining this lamb in one place of the youth trying to find all the fault in they could find.
So conclusion was, I find no fault in this man. There’s no reason for this man to die. But the people still rejected him and he was crucified. Now look in verse 8. This is where it shows you that he would be taken from prison and from judgment. That was a kangaroo court that he went to. And who shall declare his generation for he was cut off out of the land of the living, cut off. Same as you find over there in the book of Daniel chapter 9 and verse 26, where it says that he would be cut off.
And then the temple and so forth would be destroyed. that has already been done because the temple was built in Daniel’s time when they went back just like the prophecy says. So all of this happens just like God says. Now look in verse 12 where he makes the statement in verse 12, therefore will I divide him a portion with the great and he shall divide their soil with their strong because he had poured out his soul unto death. He was number with the transgressors.
That means that he was going to be, and if you look there in your little notes there, he prayed for his murderers in Isaiah 53 12. This scripture is found in the book of Luke chapter 23. But all this happened, just like the scripture says, it’s prophesied. These are truth, facts, evidence that you need to believe because you want to be so convinced of yourself, it would be hard for somebody to cast a doubt in your mind. But if you have heartedly, hazzarly, talking to somebody and you’re not convinced of it yourself, you’re not going to be an effective witness.
You’ve got to really believe this stuff. I really believe it. So I think it’s that important. Now, in verse three, look in verse three, because in verse three says he would be rejected, they esteemed him not. He is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows acquainted with grief and we hid as it were our faces from him. This is telling you how he’s going to be received when he comes. He’s going to be rejected. Why didn’t he say he would be open arm and everybody would love him and they know him king?
It didn’t say that. He didn’t do that. It’s not the way it was. What happened to him 700 years later? So you see whatever prophecy they made was always far enough in advance that the person who wrote the prophecy had nothing to do and could have nothing to do with its fulfillment. That’s why there’s 400 years between the Old Testament and New Testament, 400 years. All those people had to have been dead. They couldn’t make this happen. And Christ was born right on schedule because He says in the book of Daniel chapter 9 how many years it would be from the time they went back to issue the decree to build the temple until the Messiah would be caught up.
It tells you how many years it will be and He was right on schedule. Just a coincidence. Did you determine what year you would be born? I don’t think so. But the Bible says all of this. You see also there in your notes. Look at number four. Hands in his feet would be pierced Psalms 22. Also, garments divided by the gambling Psalms 22. He would be mocked Psalms 22. Galen, vennicored to drink Psalm 69. All these are things that would take place.
The top of the page number 9, not a bone broken Psalms 34. Isaiah 53 crucified with these. It’s all in there so much in just a few scriptures. Now I want you to take your Bible look quickly to the book of Romans, the book of Romans in chapter 10, and see whether or not this could have something to do with the gospel. Whether or not, does Isaiah 53, that Old Testament scripture have anything to do with the good news of Jesus Christ.
I think that you’ll find that it does. So in Romans in chapter 10, look there in verse 16. He says in verse 16, but they have not all obeyed the gospel. Oh, see there that word obey, that means you got to keep the 10 commandments, go to the sovereign community church, pay 50% inflation. You’ve got all these things. It didn’t say that. What does it mean to obey the gospel? Well, it says right here, for Isaiah said, Lord, who hath believed our report.
So that’s the statement from verse one found over there in the book of Isaiah in chapter 53. So when he says, Lord, who hath believed our report? Talking about this is the gospel. Isaiah 53 is the gospel. Christ dying for people, being buried, coming back again from the dead. It’s all right there. It’s the first Corinthians chapter 15. He says… Who hath believed our report? And notice what he says in verse 17. For then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
This is what God says it ought to be done. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. So this is the gospel by which people are saved. So how were they saved in the Old Testament? Well, you know they had to keep the law. No. Let me show you two verses that will help you to see how were they saved. saved in the Old Testament. I believe that they’re good. Since we’re right here in the Book of Romans, turn there to the Book of Romans in chapter 1.
Look in chapter 1 of Romans. Romans is a tremendous book on justification. What it means to be justified by faith. So in Romans in chapter 1, you’ll notice Paul, Psalm page 1191, Paul a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle separated unto the gospel of God, unto the gospel, which he had promised a form by his prophets in the Holy Scriptures. The gospel was preached in the Old Testament by the Holy Prophets, and it was concerning, see the in verse 3, concerning his Son Jesus Christ, our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead.
So the gospel was preached by them. They told about the Son in the Old Testament, the Messiah coming and making a payment for the sins of the world. Now look there in the book of Acts, the book of Acts and chapter 10. Acts chapter 10 and you’ll notice that God was speaking to the apostle Peter and he told him I want you to go to the Gentiles, Cornelius, he was the ruler of the Italian band, it was a rock and roll group.
Well, not really. But it was a band. It was Iitarians. But anyway, he went to see them. And the Lord told him, says, I want you to hear a man that will tell you how you can be saved. So when you heard that, he got everybody together and they had to hear the words. So whenever you hear in the book of John, where the Bible says he breathed on them and they received, Spirit came upon them and it says, and unto whom you, you know, remit their sins, they are remitted and if you, they retained, they retained.
People said, see that, that’s where God made him the first pope. Well, whatever that means, to be able to forgive people of their sins, look what he said about how to have your sins forgiven. is how Peter took that because when you read the book of Acts, it’s a continuation of what Jesus began to do. And this is from the book of Luke in chapter 1 as he talks to theophilus and in the book of Acts is a continuation of what the Acts of the Holy Spirit is more the acts of the Holy Spirit than in his Acts of the Apostles.
But anyway, you’ll notice what he says here in the book of Acts. Then in verse 34, then Peter opened his mouth and said of the truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of person because this is a Jew talking to Gentiles. But in every nation, he that feareth him and worketh righteousness accepted with him. And then he goes down through here and he talks about different things and so on. But he gets down to verse 39 and we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem whom they slew and hanged on a tree.
So we know who he’s talking about. We know what is the primary person in this gospel message that he’s given to the Gentile believers, or unbelievers at this time, but he gives them the gospel. Verse 40, him, God, raised up the third day and showed him openly. Remember now, Peter could not say, now take their Bible and look in Ephesians 2, 8, and 9. Now look over here in the book of 1 John 5, 13. Why can he do that?
We could do that. Why couldn’t he do that? It wasn’t written yet. It wasn’t a New Testament. It wasn’t written. That’s why I couldn’t use the New Testament. If you can’t use the New Testament, I wonder what they used. Well, they must have used the Old Testament. You know, I bet you they knew the Old Testament like we know the New Testament today. And they knew how to use it. But notice they refer back to the prophets and what they said.
And so he made the statement here in verse 41, not to all the people, called he raised him up from the dead and showed him openly, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. and he commanded us to preach unto the people and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the judge of the quick and the dead. To him give all the prophets witness that through his name, whosoever believe it in him shall receive remission of sin.
The Old Testament prophets cannot have a different gospel than the gospel we have. only one gospel and it says in the book of Galatians in chapter 1, there is not another gospel. If anybody tried to do it, there’s another gospel that hadn’t been occurred. There is only one gospel that saves. All men have to be saved by grace because nobody can be saved by works. Nobody ever has and never will be. So he says, the Old Testament prophets preached that whosoever believe it than him shall receive remission.
Peter is simply saying, what we’re telling you is what all the prophet said. This is what the prophet said. And that’s why Jesus is a little upset in chapter 24 of the book of Luke when he says, you slower hard to believe. All that the prophets have said unto you must not Christ have come and to suffer these things. And so then he told them to go in, praise the forgiveness of sin. So how did Peter, who they say was the first Pope?
How did the first pope say that you were to have your sins forgiven? Whosoever believe it then him shall receive remission of sins. The same thing I tell people today. I tell people today if you will accept Christ as your Savior God said your sins are forgiven. And I can tell people if you don’t trust Christ as your Savior, your sins are not forgiven. He paid for them so that he can forgive you, but you won’t accept his forgiveness.
The payment Christ made was for all of your sins. And so when you believe that, he gives you his righteousness, but the righteousness is put to your account when you believe on him. If you don’t believe, you don’t get it. And so he says, go and preach the forgiveness. If they’ve already got it, they don’t have to preach it. So he says, shall receive remission of sins. Now go back to your notes, I want to show you this. done at the bottom of the page.
Romans chapter 9, since we’re real close, I want you to look in Romans and chapter 9. Romans chapter 9. And notice what he says here in verse 30. Romans chapter 9 and verse 30. Why did God set the Jewish people aside? Because he don’t love anymore. They can’t be saved. Wasn’t Paul a Jew? He says, I am a Jew of the tribe of Benjamin. He was a Pharisee. Well, wasn’t he saved? I mentioned to the class this today. We have so much to be thankful for because the greatest movement, Christian movement in the world was started by Jew.
Jesus Christ was a Jew. Jesus Christ’s salvation is of the Jew. And didn’t exclude the rest of the world, but they had an advantage. So in Romans chapter 3 did not they have an advantage because they had to delivered unto them the oracles of God, the Word of God. They had an advantage, but did not take advantage of their advantage. And they were to be used by the Lord as witnesses to the world because in Isaiah 43 he says, ye are my witnesses.
These are the real Jehovah’s witnesses with the nation of Israel, but they failed. So he says in verse 30, what shall we say then that the Gentiles which followed not after righteousness have attained in righteousness? even the righteousness which is of faith. Exactly what you find in the book of Philippians in chapter three verse nine. And he found in him not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is to the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God, my faith.
So if you believe on Christ, God gives you his righteousness. If he gives you his righteousness, you’re his righteousness God. The Gentile saw that. Why couldn’t the Jews see that? Because they believed it was by works and when you believe it’s by work you’re going to stumble over Christ. You said to say that in the Bible, I’m glad you asked that. Looking verse 31, but Israel, but Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, have not attained to the law of righteousness.
They tried their righteousness by keeping the law and but they didn’t keep the law. They didn’t keep the law. The law condemns everybody that’s not perfect and they weren’t perfect and so the law condemns them. But they were trying to earn something that was free. They can’t believe this. They did not understand the purpose of the sacrifices though they were involved in making these things. Now notice what he says here in verse 32. Wherefore, because they saw it not by what?
By faith. But as it were by what? Works. See, the Bible is clear. Salvation is always by grace through faith alone. By faith, it meant believing that this Messiah died on that cross and paid for my sins. And by my faith in Him and His work, not my work, my faith in His work would get me the benefits of His work. What He did was put to my account is though I did it. I have eternal life and I’m going to heaven.
All my sins are paid, forgiven. That’s the best news in the world. But why did they stumble over because they were trying to earn it? They believe us by your works because they had the law. The law was given to bring a man to Christ that he might be justified by faith. And that’s in the book of Galatians 3, 24. But now notice what he says here, because they saw it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law for they get to stumbled at that stumbling stone.
Why did they stumble because they believe it was by works? And when you believe that salvation is by works, you’re going to stumble over Christ. You can’t stand on Him and rest upon them, you’re stumbling over the rock instead of resting on the rock and they can’t see that. So why would the Jewish people set aside because they stumbled over this rock? The stone which the builders rejected has become our foundational stone and that’s why he says there’s no other foundation that is laid but that which is Christ Christ is our foundation upon which we’re built.
He is the living rock by which we are built. So the bottom page here, the last page, the bottom salvation is by faith now. It’s always been by faith. Salvation always will be by faith. Look up and study your references showing that salvation by faith was known to the Old Testament people. You see, they were saved the same way we are. They were saved looking forward to the Messiah and we’re saved looking back to the Messiah. And they knew they would be forgiven by accepting Christ as their Savior and we’re saved because we are trusting Christ as our Savior.
And everybody saved the same way. Now let me give you one verse in closing but I want you to see this. Look there in the book of Romans and chapter 3. The book of Romans in chapter 3. And notice what he says in 24. Looking verse 24. So when you’re talking about a Jewish person, you’re talking about the sins before the cross or the sins after the cross. Remember the Jewish people today have no sacrifice for their sins. There is no temple.
There’s no high priest doing anything, no offer. They have nothing. So in verse 24 being justified, what’s the next word? Freely by his what? By his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. In other words, through the redemption, that means because of this payment that He made. And then He says in verse 25, whom God has said forth to be the satisfaction, the propitiation, through faith in His blood. Now get this to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are passed through the forbearance of God.
In other words, the death that Christ made on the cross was for the sins that were before the cross and they were to declare His righteousness and then look in verse 26 to declare I say at this time His righteousness on this side of the cross before the cross after the cross everyone is saved the same way. To declare it, I say at this time, his righteousness that he might be just and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Where’s boasting then? It’s excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law faith. Therefore in verse 28 we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. So nobody has ever been saved by the law. Everyone has always been saved by putting their faith in Christ. So we’re just trying to get the Jewish people to be saved the way that Abraham was saved, the way Isaiah was saved, the way that Moses was saved, and the way Daniel was saved, the way all of them were saved.
They were all saved the same way because they believed in their Messiah as the payment for their sins. and then believe it in Him, they would have remission of sins. Look up here, I love this stuff. I really do. I think it’s so good, it’s so simple, so clear. This hand represents you and me. The wall of represents sin. We all have sin on us. Now God says that He loves us. Now I hate what we do wrong, but He loves us.
For us to pay for this sin is eternal separation from God. But God loves us, wants us to go to heaven. But the only way you can go to heaven is you’ve got to be perfect. and by your good works you can’t, you’ll never be perfect. That’s part of the problem we have, because of the way we live. We don’t have any good works. The Bible said there is none good. There is none righteous. No, not one. So we’ve all sinned.
To go to heaven we have to be without sin. How’s that gonna happen? You can’t get rid of it. You have to die. That’s why when Christ came into the world, He didn’t go to church to pay for sin. He didn’t give money to pay for sin. Why? Because that’s not the payment. God won’t accept it. We talk about the propitiation means that Christ made a payment that was acceptable to God. God wanted a death payment because the wages of sin is death.
So Christ paid that death penalty that we owe. So Jesus Christ took all the sins of the world, paid for them to cross. Where’s buried came back from the dead three days later and lo and behold, He’s alive forevermore. And He promised that whosoever would believe it would be forgiven of everything they’ve ever done, just like you had never said. If you’re forgiven of everything, you’re good to go. I’m going to heaven because He forgave me of all my sins, like I’d never done a one.
And He didn’t do all of them but one. No, He did all of them. I’m going to heaven because God is so good and He loved me so much that He made this awesome payment not only for me, but for everybody in the world. And all we have to do is to believe. That’s pretty good news. Let’s pray, shall we? Father, we thank you so much for your blessings.
