Now hold your place right here, but look in Matthew chapter 13. Matthew chapter 13. Matthew chapter 13, it kind of gives us a little bit of an idea of what it could mean, and I believe it does mean that. So look there in Matthew chapter 13 and look in verse, let’s just start there in verse 38. The field is the world. The good seed are the children of the kingdom, but the tears are the children of the wicked one.
we know who the tears are, the tears are the children of the wicked one. The enemy that sold them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age or the world, and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tears are gathered and burned in the fire, the tears are the children of the wicked one, these are the tears. So shall it be in the end of the world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels.
And they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend and them which do iniquity and shall cast them into a furnace of fire. Who is cast into the furnace of fire? It is the tears. It’s the children of the wicked one. It is not the children of God. And where are they cast into a furnace of fire? There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. I believe it’s a reference to them. If you studied this phrase from the context of the book of Matthew, I think that you’d have to agree to that.
Now, notice something else. Just turn your page and look at verse 49, verse 49, because it says, the good and the bad. Invite everybody, everybody, good and bad. Well, it also uses that same phrase. Let’s just start to in verse 47. And again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like into a net that was cast into the sea and gathered of every kind, which when it was full, they drew to shore and sat down and gathered the good into the vessel but the cast the bad away.
The good are those that believe and the bad are those that do not believe. Everybody is invited even to come to salvation. Doesn’t matter who you are, what you’ve done. Some people don’t consider themselves that bad. I’m not that bad. Doesn’t matter anybody. But God will only save those that believe. The invitation is to all. Then notice what he says in verse 49. So shall it be at the end of the world the angel shall come forth. Severed the wicked from among the just.
Now if this is doing the thousand year reign, we know that this is going to take place. It also will take place at the beginning of the millennium because it will be the judgment of the nations where those who believe on the Lord enter down to the joy of the Lord into the kingdom. But he also says that those who do not believe the goats are cast into the lake of fire. you have a division at the judgment of the nation, believers and unbelievers.
Now, notice what else he says here in this verse 49, and sever the wicked from among the just. So then it must be the just and the unjust, the saved and the lost, believers and unbelievers. And in verse 50 and cast them the wicked into the furnace of fire there shall be wailing and gnashing of tea.” So there’s a good possibility that when we read the parable over there, he’s explaining what he’s talking about here. Now go back over there to the book of Matthew in chapter 22.
There’s a day coming when people want to have their day in court that will now have it, and they will be left speechless because the Lord has all the facts. He can also cause them to have perfect recall of everything they’ve ever said, thought or done. And he says here in verse 13, then said the king to the servants, bind him hand and foot, take him away, cast him into the outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Many are called, if you’re chosen. The invitation was to everybody, but not everybody will meet the requirement which is belief in Christ. Do you believe in Him? Will you trust Jesus Christ as your Savior? So now they were left speechless. Now you’ll notice in several of the illustrations that are to follow. In every one of them it just happens to say something about how they were left and how they were left. how they were left speechless. So that you’d have an idea.
The consequences of those who are left without a word to say. You see in verse 15, then went the Pharisees and took counsel of how they might entangle him in his talk. And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians saying, Master, we know that thou art true and teach us the way of God in true. sure they do. Neither cares thou for any man, for thou regardest not the person of men. Tell us therefore what thinkest thou?
Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar or not? But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said. Now, their goal is, is try to silence Jesus, try to trap him, try to get him to say something that the Roman government can nail him for, get him in trouble. It wasn’t because they really wanted to know truth. And Jesus is smart enough to know that. He says, why Timchi May, in verse 18, Jesus perceived their wickedness and said, why Timchi may you hypocrites.
Show me the tribute money and he brought unto them penny. He said, and whose is this image and superscriptive? They said in him Caesar, then said he unto them, render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar under God the things that are God. When they had heard these words and marveled, it left them speechless. They left them and went on their way. So they asked the question, trying to trap him. He turns it against them. And they are the ones that cannot answer.
You see, the Lord knows, and that’s why a little previous before this, they said, we perceive that he was speaking about them. He was, but they didn’t get the whole picture. There is a price to pay for their rebellion and rejection of Jesus Christ. Now look what he says in verse 23, the same day came to him the Sadducees which said that there is no resurrection. They didn’t believe in miracles, don’t believe in a resurrection. So their question is to try to trap Jesus.
So what was their question? Well, there’s a woman that was married and the man she was married to had six more brothers. So he died and so the next one was supposed to take her to be his wife. Well, he died and the next one was supposed to take it. So he died. After all, she finally died. Finally, she died. Seven men. So when she gets to heaven, who gets to be her husband. See, there is not a good question, but they don’t even believe in the resurrection.
So it didn’t matter what he said, they were not going to believe it. They’re trying to track him, humiliate him, put him down, shame him, and maybe where he will be totally speechless, but it didn’t work quite that away. So he makes this statement in verse 29, Jesus answered and said unto them ye do heir not knowing the Scriptures. Now these are the ones who supposed to know the Scriptures. You don’t know the book. Have you ever met people who try to tell you what James chapter 2 says and they don’t even understand one verse let alone the whole chapter, James chapter 2, and they try to tell you how to go to heaven and they haven’t got a clue how to go to heaven.
Well, you’ll have that. He says, you do err not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection, he believed in it, they neither married nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. Now, I don’t know if this means there’s no sext. Distinctions, it’s just that there’s no marriage going on in heaven, and chances we’re not going to be having kids in heaven for all eternity. Can you believe that? You finally get to go to heaven and you’ve got to raise kids for the rest of eternity.
How many kids could you have? Forever and never and ever. But they’d all be perfect. Yeah, but they still got to have their diapers changed. And that would not be perfect. That would not be heaven. But anyway, as we’re moving right along here, he says in verse 31, but that’s touching the resurrection of the dead. Have you not read that which was spoken unto you by God, sin? See, the scripture says, and God made the statement, I am the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Well, if there’s no resurrection, those people are dead, then God is the God of a dead man. All you people are dead, and I’m the God of the dead. No, he says they’re alive. They are alive. You are in air. You don’t understand the truth. See, Jesus has a unique way of answering people’s questions, and then he says in verse 33, and when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine and they were speechless. End of that little conversation.
Then it happens to them all over again. So it says here in verse 34, but when the Pharisees heard that he had put the Sadducees to what? See I didn’t make that up. That’s right here in the book. They’re being left speechless. And remember they could not go into the wedding because they didn’t have on the proper robe, the wedding garment. They didn’t have their robe of righteousness that Christ will give. And so they had all these questions, but they were trying to trap Jesus.
And Jesus was the one that was trapping them and leaving them speechless. And those were the ones that were going to be cast into the burning lake of fire. And there would be weeping and wailing and gnashing up tea. He’s talking about them. This is what’s going to happen to you. So he says here, they were gathered together. Now the Pharisees and the Sadducees did not get along. One believed in miracles and all that stuff. The other ones did not and here they are.
They got a common non-made, somebody to hate. Jesus. Then one of them which was a lawyer asked him a question, tempting him. See, it’s not because they really want to know the truth, they’re trying to trap and says, master, which is the great commandment in the law? Oh, we’re just so spiritual. We just want to know spiritual truth. No, they didn’t. But Jesus answered the question and they want to know what is the greatest commandment of all. He says, to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, mind, body, soul, and strength.
And the second is likened to it, which simply means love thy neighbor as thyself. Because if you love God right, you can love people right and all the law is fulfilled in one word love which the law could not give. The law could not make people love God. What Christ did causes people to love the Lord because you saw love manifested. The law doesn’t have love. The law has no forgiveness. The law has no mercy. The law has no grace.
The law has nothing but law. So he says in verse 41, while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, I got a question for you. Let me ask you a question. So he says in verse 42, what thing ye of Christ, whose son, hey, this is Jesus, this is Messiah. He’s saying right here in front of him. He says, what do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he? That’s a pretty good question. They said, well, he’s the son of David.
So Jesus asked them this question. In verse 43, he said to them, how then the David in spirit called him Lord, saying the Lord said unto my Lord, sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. If David then called him Lord, how is he his son? the one, the Messiah that comes from David is the Lord, and but he came from David. How can the Messiah be called Lord if he’s David’s son? Um, look at verse 46.
And no man was what? Able to answer him a word, silenced. Silence, silence, silenced. There must be a reason for all of these silences. It’s because you see man one day is gonna want his day in court thinking that his works are gonna be good enough and I want to tell God a few things too. Yeah? You’ll have your moment. But take your Bible and just look at this verse. Look there in chapter 12. Matthew chapter 12 and look at verse 33.
Matthew chapter 12 and verse 33. Now, when you study verses like this in Matthew, you have to kind of keep yourself in Matthew because Matthew explains Matthew. The Bible is truly incredible book. It will teach itself. If you read and read and read and read and read and read, the Bible will explain itself to you. But if you go to some of these commentaries, you probably gonna wind up all messed up. I’ve always found out most of the commentaries never seem to cover the verse that I want them to explain.
They jump right over because I don’t know if they can explain it. But I know what it says here in Matthew, in verse 33 of chapter 12, either make the tree good and his fruit good, or else make the tree corrupt and the fruit corrupt. Or the tree is known by his fruit. See this is going back to chapter 7 when it uses the same illustration about you shall know them by their fruit. There he’s talking about the false teachers and that there’s two kinds of trees.
One is a good tree, one’s bad tree. The bad tree can’t have good fruit and the good tree can’t have bad fruit. Impossible. But he says it’s a picture of the two births. One is the flesh birth which has no good fruit and he says he’s going to put the axe to the bad tree and cut it down. That’s why all sin all died. And the good tree is the one who is born again, the spiritual birth born of God and only has good fruit.
So they don’t have any good fruit on their tree. So those trees have to be cut down. So he’s saying the same thing here again. But look what he says now in verse 34. O generation of vipers, how can ye be an evil speak good things for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaker? Good man out of the good treasures of the heart bring the forth good things and an evil man out of the evil treasures bringing forth evil thing.
But I say unto you that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give a counter of in the day of judgment. Now even though the payment for sin has been made, it’s not just that the only thing they got to worry about is the sin of unbelief. Though the sin of unbelief would have caused the payment Christ made to be put to their account. But when they do not believe on Christ, Man is accountable for all the things he done.
He is going to reap the wrath of God. And if you read the second chapter of the local Romans, they have heaped up for themselves all the things that they’ve said, thought and done. I would rather accept the payment Christ made on the cross for me and never have to face my sins. But not everybody’s in the same way. He says, shall give a counter up in the day of judgment. Look in verse 37, and by thy words thou shalt be justified, by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
And so when they are left speechless because the Lord has all the evidence, what they said and did is recorded in the divine scriptures. And wouldn’t it be something if Jesus pulled out the scripture and you remember I said this to you that day. You remember that day? I said this. I warned you. I told you what was going to happen and you would not listen to me. You tried to trap me and over and over again the Lord you know he gonna have a perfect memory and he’s gonna recall everything and he’s gonna let him know every idle word.
Can you remember every idle word you’ve ever said or thought, got trouble with that. Aren’t you glad you don’t have to worry about it? Somebody paid for all of your sins. But he did it for everybody, but the payment is only put to the account of those that believe you. Now go back to chapter 22 where he makes a statement. In verse 46, and no man was able to answer him a word, neither does any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
Case closed, it’s over. Then, buddy, does he take a razor strap to the Pharisees in the next chapter and warns about people listening to the Pharisees. He says, you do what the law tells you to do, but don’t do like them. Don’t be like them. And this is why it’s so important. I’m so glad to know that I do not have to worry about a place of burning fire, but let me give you this in closing. Look there in Matthew chapter 3.
Matthew chapter 3. And you’ll notice that in the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, in verse one says, in those days came John the Baptist preaching in the wilderness of Judea. And telling the about, hey, the Lord is coming. So down in verse seven, but when he saw many of the Pharisees and the Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, old generation of vipers who have warned you to flee from the, see those three words? The wrath to come.
There’s wrath to come. And then he talks to them about something down here and you’ll notice what he says in verse 10. And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewed down cast into the fire. That’s every tree that doesn’t. So that means that you must have got a new tree before you die in this world. That means you must trust Christ as your Savior before you die.
Because once you die you have no more chances, no more opportunities. And then he says in verse 11, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance and there were baptism of water unto repentance. This means because you believed what he said about Jesus. If you believe it, you are baptized in water. But John says, I baptize you in water, but he that cometh after me shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit. So the water baptism was a picture of a Holy Spirit baptism that you were going to get later.
So he makes his statement. He says, I am not worthy to just do the shoelashes from the Son of Man that is to come. But He says here in verse 11, He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire. He’s got a mixed audience, mixed multitude and those that believed could understand and those that did not believe and did not want to know truth. It’d be like listening to a parable that get all mixed up and not understand the truth that He’s speaking.
So He says this, whose fanned is in his hand, he will p- authorily purge his floor, gather his sweet into the goner, but he will burn up the chap with unquenchable fire. Now this is referring to those like the Pharisees and the Sadducees who would not believe. And that’s why you have in Matthew chapter 21 when he’s talking about the man who had two sons. One said, yes I will and would not. No one says, I will not, but he changed his mind.
He says, you Pharisees, he says, there’s the publicans, the tax collectors, the Hormonger, they will go into the kingdom before you. You’re not going. You’re going to be spending an eternity in the literal fire burning hell. So I believe that Jesus pulled no punches, laid it out, his offer was legitimate, they would not believe him, he gave him every chance, he answered their questions and left them astonished and they still would not believe. That’s what makes what we do so important, but understand this.
Do you see the kind of people that Jesus had to deal with when he was here? Did Jesus win everybody he witnessed too? Did some of them give them a hard time? Some of them talk about him and against him. That people try to trap him. Well, when you become a soul winner, do you think people are not gonna do that to you? You’re not gonna win everybody. You’re gonna have people that are trying to trap you, put you on the spot, leave your speechless where you can’t get out of a trap, a jam and they’re gonna only try to lead you into something.
If they did it to Jesus, they’re gonna do it to you. That’s why it’s so important for us to realize If they did this to our master, what are they going to do to his servants? Should we expect better treatment? Remember he was truth. He wronged no man. He did everything right. Letting his hand represent all the Pharisees, the Sadducees, the Herodians, and the lawyers and the scribes, all those wicked people. But maybe we ought to just throw everybody in there, all right?
Thank you. And the Bible says that we have all sinned. And we’re the tree that has bad fruit, and because we’ve got bad fruit, we’re all going to be cut down. We’re all going to die. But to go to heaven, you have to be perfect as righteous as God. None of us are perfect. None of us are righteous. We need a Savior. And God says, you cannot save yourself. It’s not even possible. This hand represents Jesus Christ, He’s the Lord God in the flesh.
He came into the world because well He loves us. He hates our sin because our sin separates us from Him. So Jesus Christ died and paid for all the sin of everybody. He even died for the Pharisees, He died for the Sadducees, He died for the Herodians, He died for the lawyers and the scre- He died for everybody. He died for the harlot, he died for the drunkards, he died for the tax collectors, he died for everybody in the world and made that payment for their sins.
And invited everybody, everybody can come and have something that’s free and he’ll give you his righteousness. But if you try to get in any other way, then the consequence is going to be weeping and wailing and gnashing up teeth. Let’s pray, shall we? The head’s bow nice and close and no one looking around. If you’re here tonight and you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior, understand you cannot save yourself. You can ask all kinds of questions and now I’ll say this over the years, I’ve had people that will just call me up on the phone and they got to ask me this question and then another question and they’ll call me back in a couple weeks or a couple months and they got more question moving but they never trust the Lord.
Always want another question, another question, realizing that they’re just eating up their time and if they die they’re going to spend an eternity separated from God. If you have never trusted Christ would you trust Him tonight? Even if you’ve already trusted the Lord, you’d never have to do it again. But if you’re watching by internet, right there on the screen, you can just click it and say, yes, I will trust Christ as my Savior. I pray that you will.
With anybody here, displayText if you will trust Christ as your Savior, I’m not going to have you forward. I’m not going to embarrass you, but I’d like to have prayer for you. So before we close, is there anyone at all say, yes, pray for me. I will trust Christ as my Savior tonight. And I’d like you to pray for me. just slip you hand it very quickly, put it right back down, and end with it all. Our Father, we do thank You for Your blessings, thank You for Your Word, and help us Father to always have a burden for souls until the time comes when we’re no longer here.
We’ll no longer be needed here. But until then, help us to stay true. In Christ and in We Pray. Amen. Are you a new listener to Bibleline? Do you enjoy the teachings of Dr. Arnold?
