Number four, children are to be trained to serve God. verse has caused a lot of heartache to a lot of people. Remember this, Proverbs has more principles than promises. These are simply principles but not guarantees that everyone, if you raise your children right, they will turn out right. That is not true. If it is true, God never raised any of his kids right. You ought to see the kids that God has. You ought to read the first chapter of the book of Isaiah.
He says, from the soul of your foot to the top of your head, you’re pathetic, you’re sick. And he’s only had him for five, six hundred years. And they were still as rebellious as he says, he doesn’t do any good to whoop you anymore. I said that about my kids too. It don’t help. Sometimes they will just be set upon a course of action. But some say, well, this means to create a taste or desire that will cause them to want to serve the Lord.
And that’s good. If you can create that desire within them where they want to serve the Lord. Others say, well, it all depends on how they’re bent. Raise up a child and train them to go in the way that they’re bent. Well, if you’re talking about their all-sent for nature, I don’t know if that’s a good idea or not because everybody is bent to go their own way. That’s the natural bent, go your own way. Sometimes you’re talking about their temperament the way they are, whether or not they’re strong and hard-headed or soft and tweet and pliable.
Some kids you can look at other ones you’ve got to threaten them with hellfire and it doesn’t even affect them. So they say, well you’ve got to learn how to work with different kids. Well, have fun. And there’s always the experts that never have any children. They can tell you how they’re supposed to do it. And you can raise some times, you can raise two kids the same way and one obedient and one disobedient. And you can’t stop it.
But the key thing is train up a child in the way he should go. And when he’s old, well, is that supposed to be a guarantee that if I train my kids right, they have to go row up to be old. That means they can’t die while they’re young. If I raise my kids right, they’ll never die young because when they get old, they’re going to keep doing what that taught them when they were young. No, it’s a principle.
In other words, generally speaking, this is what you do. But the Lord says that sometimes children will go astray. Do you know how they dealt with rebellious children in Israel’s time in the Old Testament. You got any idea? Oh, they didn’t live long. That would make them straighten up, wasn’t it? They stoned them to that. You say, should we do that today? Well, I wouldn’t have lived. Probably none of y’all would have too. But they taught, that’s why they had to teach them the law, because it was great consequences if they broke it.
And even whenever somebody wants to do a little hanky panky on the side, if they were out there in the field, something like that there, they got to watch they didn’t get caught someplace where they shouldn’t be. Unless something happened and you’re supposed to cry out, scream. And if you get caught, then they would stone both of them. But if you didn’t cry and you could have cried, you’re in a heap of trouble. You hear about all these people are they, you You know, all of you, they get raped.
And I read about some of them. This man raped me. And you find out. She went to the bar. She had all these drinks. She left about 3.30 in the morning and asked this guy to go home with her. And he goes to the hall and he raped her. I’ll tell you something’s wrong here. You’re showing him he shouldn’t have done it. The. She should not have done what she did and he shouldn’t have done what he did. Sin is sin.
And if you’re not going to do what God says, dude, there’s a price to pay, a serious price. But everybody covers it over. And sin is not sin anymore. And so, you’ve got to stay with what the book says. But look at this statement. I put it in front of, should the child develop the desire to serve the Lord, he will have the training. Train up a child the way he should go. As long as they’re in their new roof, you train them the way they should go.
But they come to time when they have to make their own decision and God holds them responsible. So God will hold them responsible. But if they wanted to serve the Lord, they should know how to do it because they should have been trained. But that doesn’t mean that everybody has the desire to. So, training a child in a way he should go and when he is old, and that means if he has the desire, go who wants to serve the Lord at least, he’ll know how to serve the Lord.
See, this isn’t so much I promise as a guarantee it is a principle in the Word of God. This is what we should do. At least the person will know what to do and what not to do. The train. Number five, children are to be strong in their faith to stand on their own. And Colossians 2-6, as you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord’s soul, walk ye in Him. You receive the the Lord by faith, you are to live by faith, walk by faith, walk with your confidence in the Word of God.
So here in Colossians 2 and verse 7, rooted and built up in Him. So it is the will of God that God’s children are rooted in the Word of God. And chances are kids that are even trained at home are not really that grounded and rooted in the word of God that they can stand against the wiles of the devil when they leave home. Because sometimes even with home school they become very sheltered. And people say, well, when they get out in the world, when they get out in the world, well, I would prefer they never really get out in the world.
I am in the world, but I’m not of the world. And I’m talking about where you should still be under authority. And this is why it’s so important that you have a good, strong church. A strong church that teaches what God’s Word says so that if you leave this place and you were to go someplace else in the country, the first thing you ought to do is look, can I find me a good, strong Bible teaching church? That church will be very valuable to you.
It can hold you and keep you grounded in the truth. And it doesn’t matter how strong you are today. get to where you stop coming to church and stop reading and stop studying and you just get out. You’d be surprised how fast you can lose what you now know. You say, well, I’ll never forget, yes, you will. I’ve been doing this long enough and I’ve watched enough people. You can’t stay strong while that’s staying in a good, strong church and studying this book and staying doing what you’re supposed to do.
Very important. Look at the next verse. be aware, let any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ. And a lot of parents will let their kids go to secular universities and they have classes that are faith breakers. Designed to break your faith. To get you to where you will be challenged on everything you believe and you’ll be surprised the pressure and sometimes the pressure is you just keep quiet you just keep silent or you don’t let anybody know that you know what you believe and you just pass the grade so you can get through and at the same time you’re not the witness you ought to be because you’re afraid or the fear that you cannot accomplish what you want and somebody’s gonna say something or you’ll fail the
classes. There’s all kinds of pressures. So he says, beware. Second Timothy 2, 15 says, study to show thyself approved unto God a workman. This is what God wants his children to grow up and to learn so they can be a workman but a workman for the Lord. I look at it this way as much as possible. Let the lost man do what the lost man can do and let God children do only what God’s children can do. But anyway, as we’re moving right along here, the next verse here, 2 Timothy 2, 16, but shun, profane, and vain, babbles.
Now get this, but they will increase unto more ungodliness. And a lot of kids, they go off to secular colleges. And because of what they are taught, it increases ungodliness. And they do not maintain that purity, that holiness, that righteousness that they had when they were living under mom and dad. And a lot of kids can’t hardly wait until they get away from the authority of mom and dad, so they usually they go wild. There’s always a few that won’t, but majority of people.
Go wild because now I’m free to do whatever I want to do and I want to see what my parents been keeping me from and I want to enjoy life and be surprised. They thought they would never go that far and do this or do that and they wind up doing it all. Good Christians, they came from good homes. It’s just that they were allowed to go to places that were destroyed in. And this is why it’s so very important.
Now look at the next one. Who concerning the truth have aired, saying that the resurrection is past and overthrow the faith of some. And this is why sometimes parents need to find out are my children going to be able to withstand the pressures? And why am I subjecting them to go to a place where they can be so challenged without the help and the nurture that they need? and sometimes I don’t think parents really think it through. Look at number six, children are to be recognized or to recognize error.
You can’t recognize error if you don’t know truth and this is why I highly recommend that people allow their children to go to Bible college at least a year to have some grounding so that they can at least be able to intelligently make a decision spiritually and I believe it will help them. So the 2 Timothy 3, 13 says, but evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. They will deceive and they are deceived, but they love to take the product of somebody else.
Here’s some parent who has spent all these years 18 years with that precious little jewel of theirs and then they give it to some humanist educator and says, Now put on the finishing touches of my little darling. I think you need to be very careful. The next verse, but continue thou in the things which thou hast learned. So whatever you learned at home and whatever you learned in school and whatever you learned in college, it should be all the same thing.
It should all agree because otherwise you’re gonna have a three-legged stool and one of them’s missing. Or one lady’s gonna come up short because it’s not gonna stabilize you the way. And you wonder why so many people are, they’re wobbling. It’s because something’s wrong in that stability. They don’t have the groundwork the way it ought to be. So look at the next one. And that from a child, they’ll have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise in the salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus.
Now this is where it’s good for homeschool. They can teach their kids, win them to Christ. They take them to church. They teach them the things at home, help build their character and all these things. And then they say, well, they’re really to get out on their own now. Well, they should still stay underneath somebody’s authority. At least when they come like to a Bible college, there’s somebody who is concerned enough to care about the kids. And you watch over them and you teach them the right thing.
You try to make a man out of a man Christian young lady out of the lady and you try to teach them some morality and why they growing up a little bit but they’re not under their mom and dad but they’re under some other God and the people that can help challenge them and train them in the right direction that they ought to go. I believe it’s very important. Verse 16, all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine.
That means what’s right or reproof what’s wrong or correction how to make it right for instruction in righteousness so that they can teach it right. So you need to let them learn so they can share. Learn the truth from the Word of God so they can share those things that God has taught them. And then in verse 17 that the man of God, so we’ve gone from a child of God in verse 15 to a man of God in verse 17 and what makes the difference is the word of God that lies in between.
So you teach a child the word of God and so does that mean okay you stop now that’s enough? No, not till he is a man of God and is able to do the work that God wants him to do. That’s why he says the man of God may be perfect or complete throughly furnished and to all good work. He’s able to do the work of what? God, see God’s the one who created the child and God’s the one who loaned them to the parents and says, now parents, this is what I want this product to turn out to be.
This is what I’m looking for. And the parents are failing if we can’t get this product. Now we can do all that we can, but remember, we have to work with God on this. And the kids still, they have a will of their own. You can’t make them do it. But we’ll come along a lot further if we seek to do the right thing, understand what God wants and at least strive in that direction. I would think that in this time and age in which we are and where the way things are in this world, and you’re talking about all of the money and expenses of going off to these colleges and universities, and spending $20,000, $30,000 a year and all that kind of thing, You’d think that Christian school would be, or the college would be packed with students, wouldn’t you?
If the most important thing is serving God, or they go in there to learn how to serve God, or is that really to make money? Is it more about getting that trade that I want, that position that I want? What is the real reason for it? When Christ came along and he saw his twelve disciples, they were already in business, of them, somewhere is texting you like, that’s a pretty good job. And someone were fishermen, that’s a pretty good job, I guess.
But mainly they were fishermen because the daddy was. Joseph was a carpenter, so Jesus became a carpenter. You see, their trade back in those days was they learned how to do the work that their daddy was doing and whatever daddy did, that’s what they did. And they didn’t go off the school, they learned what to do by what their parents were doing and then they just continued it. But now nobody wants to do what daddy does, whatever daddy does.
Now it’s free to choose. But in doing so, we’re leaving the security of what our parents could teach us. We no longer work together with mom and dad so that we can learn how to do a trade. You know a kid goes to school, mom goes there and he goes there and you see him at night. Oh hi. Are you my kid? Yes, are you my mom? And so it’s not the same. Not the same. But anyway, look at number three, page three.
Children are to dedicate their lives to the Lord. In other words, here’s God, create that little baby, give it to the parents. Parents are supposed to raise that little child and give it back to God. Now we just talked about this in Sunday school with Hannah. This is what she did with Samuel. You remember the story? It was only last week. Children are to dedicate their lives to the Lord. So Romans 12-1, IBC to you therefore brethren by the mercies of God.
So this is only for the old folks, right? This year verse is only for the old folks. This isn’t for the kids. This isn’t for those that are 18 years old, is it? This isn’t for college age kids, is it? Who do you think this is for? Any of God’s children. If God did this for you, because of what God did for you, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice wholly acceptable on the God which is your reasonable service.
Is it reasonable for God’s children to serve Him? Wherever you go, whatever you do, you need to learn this so that you can do what God wants you to do. And did you know that if you put God first, He’ll increase your wisdom in everything else you do? You can be able to do anything else better if you put this first. God can sharpen your mind. God can help you to remember and learn and you’d be surprised at all the things God has for the person down the road that will dedicate their life to serving.
Look at number eight, children are not to be conformed to the world. If the kids are not to be conformed to this world, should we send our children to the humanist educators and say conform my child to whatever you are. Do you believe that they can sit under teachers for three, four, five years without that teacher? Whoever they may be. Having an influence upon the children. Those college kids. And you’d be surprised how many are changed. You’d be surprised how many Muslims don’t mind going to jail.
because that’s where they do most of their recruiting. Because now they’re getting free room and board and they’re like paid missionaries to go in there and convert most of the people become a Muslim and they’re doing a very good job of it. I think something’s wrong with this. But Romans 12 verse two says, and be not conformed to this world. So you don’t want all those years of teaching and training to train those children into something that you didn’t want.
You wanted your child to stay clean and pure and holy, try to seek it that it stays that way. Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is a good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Why do all of that if God didn’t mean for you to do the perfect will of God? Is it God’s will that that little child grow up with the knowledge, the training to do the will of God?
From what I read, that’s what it looks like to me. Unless I’m misreading the whole Bible somehow, but I believe this is what God is talking about. Number nine, children are to develop great confidence to do the will of God. And Hebrews 10 verse 35 says, cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. You see, boldness comes from confidence, and your confidence comes from your faith in what God says. So if people can shake their faith in what God says, they’re not going to have the boldness to stand for the Lord.
In verse 36, for ye have need a patience that after you have done the will of God. It must be evident then that they are expected to do the of God. When you agree with that, do you expect God to expect God’s children to do the will of God? Whatever that might be. So then we have from the cradle to the grave where to do the will of God. Now, the next statement, if this is the goal you have for your child, and perhaps Florida Bible College of Tampa is the next step for you to consider.
A humanist education is like three wolves in a sheep voted on what to eat for supper. And you send that little sheep into a den of wolves and expect that little sheep to defend itself. Now, if they get strong enough and they have four or five years of Bible calling in, then you can go anywhere in the world, any religion, any country, probably be able to stand, but coming straight out of the home at 17, 18 years old? No.
They haven’t got a clue what it’s about. They’ve been so sheltered for so long, and then you turn them loose. And this is why some parents are very concerned about their kids, and they should be. Because it was different whenever our universities were founded back in the late 1700s and they were mainly for the preaching of the gospel. They said that they had to teach the preachers, to teach the people in order to preserve our country. They said, well, without it, we cannot preserve this country.
Without preserving our institutions. So that’s why the University of Georgia was started. I went back and I went to the arkah and I had to dig and I asked over over again and they didn’t know and they couldn’t find them and I said there’s got to be the starting founding documents that’s what I want to see. So finally they found some and I got them out and I looked at them and I couldn’t believe what I was reading. It was like a bunch of four to Bible college students getting together and says let’s start a Bible college.
Yale and Princeton was also started for the very same reason. Now are those schools like that today? No. Think of how many the universes that are in the world now, in America. And now they are doing just the opposite to destroy this country, destroy our faith, to change it into another form of government. And they’ll do that little by little because they will take the children and re-educate them. And it’s going to be done. The next statement, Jesus chose 12 young people so that he might be with them and might send them forth.
For the Bible College of Tampa can provide this atmosphere for your student. We can help them use their talents, abilities, and strength to change the world. And the pernicious cryoive culture, hear how the right person with the right message and the right motive can change the world and for the Bible College. But in other words, we have to understand what we inwardly believe in order that you can take the things and help somebody else to see because a lot of people don’t see and understand everything.
And you just want to give them a little light here and a little light there and try to explain a few things so they can understand. Because we’ve got to be solid on what we know in the end. But look up here, this hand represents you and me, and the wall of represents sin. We all have sin upon us. God says that he loves us. I hate what we do wrong, but he loves us. And for us to go to heaven, we have to be perfect as right as is God.
When he says that from a child, our has known the Holy Scriptures that can make thee wise unto salvation. That’s the most important thing a child can understand is how to be saved. And so here we are born into this world, born with a sinful nature, and we all sin, and we all got to die. But God loves us. And He says to go to heaven, we have to be perfect as righteous as God, and no one is perfect.
None of us are righteous, so God says that we cannot save ourselves. We need a Savior. God says it’s not by works of righteousness which we have done. So this hand represents Jesus Christ, is God in the flesh, came into the world because he loves us, hates our sin because it separates us from him. So Jesus Christ who had no sin didn’t have to die, but he took our sins, paid for them on the cross, came back from the dead and said that if we would believe that he did it for us, he would put this payment to our account, we get to go to heaven on what Jesus Christ did for us.
That’s the best news in all the world. And God who gave that little child to the parents, loaned that child to us for a while, and we don’t keep them forever. I mean, they’re here, and the next thing you know, they’re gone. And sometimes we’d love to see our kids and see our grandkids, but we’re moving on down the road. In one of these days, as grandparents, we’re going to move off the scene, and the next thing you know, they’re going to be grandparents.
And it just keeps on going like that. But isn’t it wonderful to know that from the Word of God, what God wants, what God expects? And God does love us. He did sin his son to pay for our sins. And he does want us to believe it. And if we will believe it, he will give us as a free gift of our lasting life. Let’s pray, shall we? We’ll hit by a nice close. No one looking around. If you have never trusted Christ as your Savior, would you trust him right now?
Would you simply believe that when Christ died, he died for you? And if you trust him right now, he will give you the free gift of everlasting life. And so in just a moment I’m going to ask for a raise a hand. Raise your hand doesn’t save you. Just let me know that what I said made sense to you and sent free to that made sense to me. And I will trust Christ as my Savior and I’ll like you to remember me in prayer.
But just slip your hand very quickly and put a rub back down there when it all. If you’re watching by internet tonight, the only thing you have to do is will you believe that when Christ died, he paid for your sins. He paid for your sins because he didn’t want you to do it. And if you’ll believe it, you’ll put that payment to your account. You go to heaven on what he did for you, not what you do for him.
And I pray that you will. Our follower, thank you so much for all you’ve done for us. We also pray, Lord, from the certain days that we’ve mentioned here tonight. So many are hurting right now and also for the homeschool convention, the Thursday Friday in Sanity, to present the college and we just pray your blessings upon Peter and the college kids are going over there and also the time for me to share when I go. We just think for all you have done for us.
So bless us. And Christ, may we pray. Amen. Are you a new listener to Bibleline? Do you enjoy the teachings of Dr. Arnold?
