So you that are strong are those that are walking in the spirit and those that are weak, those that are walking in the flesh. So you need to help them. And some of God’s children are not necessarily just walking in the flesh. They haven’t grown enough. They’re just learning how to walk with the Lord. So Christians are always with a job to do. You may not always be out-so winning, but there’s Christians who have already been one and they need to be stronger in the Lord.
And so that’s why we care about them. You’ll also notice over there in chapter 15, we’ll go over there in just a minute, the one word B-E-A-R, bear. You want to know what does that mean? Well, this is how you get stronger. Bearing not just your burden and your responsibility, but the Bible also says, bear ye one another’s burdens and responsibilities. Help the other Christians, the other brother in in the Lord to walk with the Lord, helping them to carry their load.
Stronton them. See what he says in verse 2? bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Moses. Did I read it right? Some of you have been looking at your scriptures. You going to let me get away with murder? Bear you one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. Not the law of Moses, but the law of love. The law of Christ is the law of love, where you love one another and you want to see them succeed.
See, one of the things about your maturity and God using you is because God wants you to help every child of God succeed. I feel like I cannot succeed if I don’t help you succeed. My success is built upon, can I help you walk in the spirit? Can I help you become obedient to the the Lord. I want you to be as successful as you possibly can be. I want you to be as faithful as you can possibly be.
Because if I don’t help you there, I don’t help you at all. I’m just spending your time and wasting my time. So I always want people to grow stronger in the Lord, learning how to walk with God on your own. Because you can’t always stand around and hold somebody’s hand. You have to learn how to walk with the Lord. Now you take Tyler and Justin. They came down from Georgia. They’ve been here together going on four years. One of these days they may have to separate and stand on their own.
Right now they encourage each other to like two peas in a pod. But one of these days Tyler’s going to go do his thing. Justin’s going to go do his thing. But now when they do can they still stand strong and do right if they never see each other for 50 years. One day you have a reunion to come back and say, how you been doing? And one will say, oh man, I find out walking in the flesh is so much easier.
But now look what else he says in verse three, for if a man thank himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself, but let every man prove or try test his own work, Then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone and not in another. In other words, you need to be filled with the joy and the satisfaction that you yourself are doing what God wants you to do. And then because you do that and then you help somebody else, you know, that’s what God wants you to do and you can have rejoicing.
And they may not respond correctly, because you can help try to minister to a lot of people and they don’t respond. You are being blessed and filled with joy because you did what you’re supposed to do. Now look at the last part. In verse 5, for every man shall bear his own burden. You’re still responsible to do what God wants you to do. And then to add a little bit more to it, help somebody else. Be strong enough not just for you.
He’s like this. There’s a lot of people who are good soul winners, but they can’t teach somebody else how to be a soul winner. There’s a lot of people who know how to study the Bible, and they can believe it all, but they don’t know how to teach it. In other words, it teaches them, and they’re satisfied, and they’re growing, but they don’t know how to teach somebody else what they know. So part of your responsibility is not just to learn it for yourself, but you learn it so that you’re gonna accomplish something with it.
See other people become stronger in the Lord. And it’ll be a blessing to you, a little pea-picking heart. And they go back there to the Romans in chapter 15. So bear the infirmity of the week, not to please ourselves, because that’s one of the things we always wanna do. We wanna know, well, what am I gonna get out of this? If you learn to have some joy because you see somebody else growing, What did Paul say for ye are my crown of rejoicing?
You are my joy, my crown of rejoicing, even ye in the presence of the Lord at his coming. In other words, the people that he’s won the Christ will be his crown of rejoicing when he gets to heaven. And there’s another scripture that says, I have no greater joy than my children walking in truth. to see people that either you want to the Lord or God’s children and you’ve been used by the Lord to help them walk in truth, to learn, to do the thing God wants them to do.
Take your Bible and just look there in 1 Corinthians chapter 1. 1 Corinthians chapter 1 and look there in verse 10. In verse 10. Because he says here in verse 2 of Romans 15, it says, let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification. So we know we’re supposed to seek the good, to edify. And we said edify means to beautify what’s there and add to it. They should be a little richer because of you being in their life.
But notice when we talk about unity, it’s because the more you are on the same page, This is why you have this church and a Nat Church, a Nat Church, and that church. And there’s so many different kinds of church because everybody believed just a little bit different. So they wind up, those that believe like this go here and those that believe like that go there and those that believe like this go here. And so this one goes here and that one goes there.
So you got all these churches where you have a few people that we all agree and so they all these different churches. Now God says that we should all believe exactly the same thing. should all be teaching the same thing. Why? How many different Bibles are there? There’s only one Bible, but only one Holy Spirit. And there is one primary meaning of the scriptures. Now there can be a lot of applications, but notice in verse 10, now IBC you brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus tries that you all, all speak the what?
Same thing and that there be no divisions among you and that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. That’s unity. Now is that what the Bible says? Did I read it right? Did you look at it? Did check it with me. Now the people in Corinth in this church, did they have this unity or were there major problems in this church? They had lots and lots of problems. They had all these divisions among them.
Not everybody thought the same thing, the same way. So that’s why when you have the differences, you’re going to have contention. See there in verse 11, for hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of clothes that there are contentions among you.” Now what do you think contentions mean? Striving, it’s a good word. Everybody’s not on the same page. Everybody’s got a problem and they cause divisions and irritability and all these things.
Notice why he says this. You see see there in verse 13 is Christ divided? Picking this person over that person, or I was saved by this person. That was more important. I was, you were just saved. I was gloriously saved. I mean, Peter led me to Lord. Or who baptize you? Paul baptized me. And so you have the evasion that goes on and a lot of damage being done. You’ll notice that the Lord doesn’t solve the problem that they had by saying, well, that’s a sign you’re not really saved.
No, He taught proper doctrine. To correct the problem, you teach proper doctrine. So He gets them right into knowing, don’t you know you are the temple of God? Don’t you know that every one of us is required to be found faithful? Don’t you know, follow me as I follow Christ? And he goes right through the book and tells him about the judgment-seated Christ and all the things that are going to happen. And so he corrects their problem by correct doctrine.
And so that’s why the major teaching in the scriptures is going to be on the doctrine that’s found in the Word of God. Take your Bible and also look over there in the book of Philippians, the book of Philippians. Because when you start talking about unity and people getting along and loving each other and having of the same mind, so many of these scriptures, the kind of light runs together. Now look what he says in chapter 2 and look in verse 1.
You’ll notice the same word used here that’s used also over there in chapter 15. there be there for any consolation. Remember God is the God of patience and consolation. To be able to console a person, to help a person, to help them spiritually. Whatever way they needed. But to be able to have somebody who really cares about what’s going on in somebody else’s life. He said if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any vowels and mercies, tender mercies, fulfill ye my joy that you be.
And here’s that word like minded, having the same love, being of one accord of one mind. See that’s what produces unity, but there has to be a common denominator. That means that we have to get our truth from one source and believe that it is the authority. So this is why God’s children must know the Bible and have confidence that this is the authority. And because we all believe this is the authority and we take God at His Word, then we’ll get along.
When there’s a problem, they’re sinned somewhere. If a husband and wife can’t get along, sinned somewhere. Wouldn’t you agree? Kids can’t get low in mom or dad, sin somewhere. So if everybody thought the same way and looked at it the same way, a same mind boy, it would be wonderful. But we have all a sinful nature. And unless we depend upon the Lord to help us, then it won’t work. You’ll have, oh, you’re still saved, you’re going to have them, but you’re not gonna have the peace and the joy that you want to have.
So notice what he says here, Because this is very important. In verse three, let nothing be done through strife or vain glory, but in lowliness of mind, let each esteem other better than themselves. Otherwise you can get a little on the highfalutin side, begin to look down your long, fair, silica, nose that other people think you’re like, Kellogg’s corn flakes just a little bit better. And you need to understand, treat other people as though they were better than you, because you wanna help them.
You want to encourage them, you want to edify them. Generally you won’t do that if you’re putting them down. Always, see, when you have camp, the purpose of camp is to try to help those kids. Reason for ranch is to help those kids. I want us to help those kids. Everything we do, something’s going to help those kids in church is to help the adults. You’re always trying to help people get closer to the Lord. So that’s why you don’t want to say or do something cause them not to get closer to the Lord.
But now look at this. In verse four, look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. So what do you mean by that? When you begin to understand that the world is not built around you. That there’s other people in this world. No man is an island unto himself. That means that we influence other people’s lives. And so I just want you to look over there first of all because Dr. Seymour used to put it this way.
You should be natural in your spiritual life and spiritual in your natural life. I said to him, no, what did he say? I wrote it down. And maybe 10, 15 years later, I thought, I want to know what that means. But now look what he says they’re in chapter two, but look there in verse 19. But I trust in the Lord Jesus to sin, Timothy is shortly under you, that I also may be of good comfort when I know your state.
Now see, your standing never changes, but your state in the Lord can change from day to day. How are you doing? What is your state of mind? Well, you know, some days you’ve got a clear solid thinking mind and in other days, you’re ready to fall apart. But he says this in verse 20, for I have no man get this and you are like minded who will and get this naturally. So I wrote out in my Bible, spirituality should be natural.
In other words, you do things because it’s part of your nature. Before you ever trust the Lord, you naturally did things and responded things the way you’ve been taught and trained. What you’ve been doing. But now when you walk with the Lord and you become spiritually minded, if you let it become a habit in your life, and after a while it will be just so natural to respond in the right way. This is what keeps you from blowing your cool and getting mad and want to hit somebody and throw some.
And I have to really watch that when I’m driving a car. That’s one area I’m still working on. But you’ve got to get to the place where you understand you’re to be natural in your spiritual life. This naturally he does this because you’ve been doing it for so long. It’s natural for some godly people after they’ve learned so much. They know what to do. They know what to say. They know how to do it and becomes easier on them.
But if you’re learning how to walk, you’re gonna struggle and you’re gonna fall because it’s not natural for you. And now God’s asking you to do the supernatural thing and yet with the Holy Spirit yes you can do these things but He says here in verse 21, see this is saying the same thing for all seek their own. Most people only care about themselves but He’s asking us don’t just think and dwell upon you. How can God use you to help solve these other problems and everybody’s got problems.
In other words, if it wasn’t for problems, we wouldn’t have problem solvers. And if there was no problems, nobody would have a job. The only reason anybody gets a job is because somebody’s got a problem. We’re trying to solve a problem. So you’re trying to figure out, how am I gonna be used by the Lord to solve problems? problems and the world is full of them. But if you just get wrapped up in yourself, you don’t care about anybody else, you don’t have to learn how to answer those things, you just do whatever pleases you.
And this is what he is speaking against, telling us. This is not what I want you to do. I want you to be different. This is a supernatural life. To do something because of your new nature, not the old nature. not to respond the way you naturally would, if you didn’t know the Lord, but now that you know the Lord, it should be a natural thing. So go back here to Romans in chapter 15.
Now here in these simple little verses, when he makes a statement, let every one of us, pleases neighbor for his good to edification. Hold your place right there and look in Jeremiah 32. Jeremiah 32. way back there in the Old Testament. Jeremiah 32. Jeremiah chapter 32 and looking verse, yeah, done in verse 38. Starts in verse 37, but verse 38, and they shall be my people and I will be their God. And I will give them one heart, one way that they may fear me forever for the good of them and of their children after them.
It’s where God is promising that one day down the road, in the future, all these problems that Israel has had, all the wicked ways that they’ve gone, all this being in the land, chasing, taking out of the land, scattered, still out for 2,000 years. He says, one day they’re all going to come back. Call me One Nation. One people. Now he also makes this statement in the book of Ezekiel in chapter 37, 38, 39 when he says there’s two branches, two sticks.
There’s Joseph, which is Ephraim, and then you get Israel. He says, in the end time he says they’re gonna be one stick, one shepherd. He’s talking about this unity concerning the nation of Israel. But now he’s working with the church, with us. He wants us to care for one another like we’re supposed to because see our goal is and our only way of being successful as an adult Christian, strong Christian, spiritual-minded Christian, is can we help weaker Christians? So it’s not just you keeping your nose clean and staying out of trouble.
Can you help somebody else keep their nose clean and stay out of trouble? That’s the thing. Now go back to the Romans in chapter 14, of that chapter 15, where it makes a statement in verse 3, for even Christ pleased not Himself, but as it is written, the reproaches of them that reproach the fell on Me. Now this is a messianic Psalm, Psalm 69, in verse 9 where he talks about the Lord says, the reproaches that were against you, hell on me.
Now as you and I serve the Lord and this word reproach takes it with it the word like shame or disgrace because Christ was so disgrace and so shamed, people hated him, all these things. He says, now, let that fall on you. People are not going to always lift you up. They’re going to maybe bring you shame and disgrace. We’re supposed to love them regardless. And this is why the other night was talking about when Christ says, for whom Christ died, for whom Christ died.
How much did He love them? Well, He died for them. Oh, now you may not die for them, but can you bear some of these things. And in the book of Peter talks about the the sufferings, the sufferings of Christ. We enter into this world of suffering for Christ’s sake. We give up some of our dreams and hopes and plans and we live our life for whatever God wants, believing and trusting that that’s what it would please him. So we seek to please the Lord.
So he says in verse 4, for whatsoever things were written. So you’re seeing that God has the Old Testament Scriptures. So if they were written for our learning, written for our learn says they’re right there. If they were written for our learning, what do you usually do with something that’s written? It doesn’t benefit you unless you read it. So should we read the Old Testament? If it was written for our learning, should we read it? So it’s not just the New Testament, it’s the testimonies.
Those things that happened in the Old Testament times, all these stories. You know when you teach a Sunday school class, you don’t usually teach all the little stories from the New Testament, you tell them all those stories in the Old Testament, where the testimonies of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple. And so we see how God dealt with people who obeyed and we see what God did with people who disobeyed because you’re trying to teach character to the kids.
Trust the Lord, believe what God says. You’re trying to give them something on the inside of them that helps form their character. So here we are, we’re supposed to learn that so that God wants to help form our character because how you care and love other people is gonna depend upon what kind of a testimony you have yourself. So he says that we through patience and comfort. Remember, he says in verse five, the God of patience, then we study those scriptures so that we can also, as he says here, through patient and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
The scriptures that we read and we study is what causes you to believe. When you read those stories in the Old Testament and how things began, the book of Genesis, and the Exodus coming out of, all these things is to teach us and to give us hope. The word hope here is talking about a cause to believe. In other words, why do you believe? Well, they gotta be a cause. Well, it’s because you’re listening and you’re learning something and it’s making a difference in your life.
Remember, whatever you want other people to benefit from whatever you teach them, what is this teaching that you think will help them so much? or what is that teaching doing for you? Should they apply it, but not you? Should you be an example of whatever you want people to be? Or do we just tell people what to do, but we don’t have to do it ourselves? You know the answer to that. So in verse 5, now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be, and here’s that word again, like-minded, one toward another according to Jesus Christ or Christ Jesus.
So this is what God wants and then we’re finished with verse six that ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. So the reason for all of this is so that we please the Lord and he gets the glory for it. The purpose of love is unity. In the purpose of unity it glorifies God. Look up here. hand represent you and me and the wallet represent sin. We all have sin upon us.
Now God loves us and He hates our sin but He loves us. And for us to pay for sin is eternal separation from God in a place called hell. But God loves us. Wants us to go to heaven and to go to heaven we have to be perfect as righteous as the Lord and none of us are perfect. None of us are righteous. We’ve all come short of God’s perfection. We’re all sinners. And there’s no difference. We’re all the same.
But God loves the whole world. And because we can’t save ourselves, someone has to do it for us. This hand represents Jesus Christ. He’s the Lord God in the flesh. He came into the world because He loves us, hates our sin, because it separates us from Him. So Jesus Christ who had no sin didn’t didn’t have to die. So he took all the sin, paid for it on the cross, came back from the dead and said that if you and I, if we would believe that he did it for us, he’d put this payment to our account and we go to heaven on what Jesus Christ did for us.
Good news, best news in all the world. Let’s pray, shall we? With his bow nice clothes, no one looking around. And if you’re watching by internet tonight, understand above everything else that God loves you and He wants you to have eternal life. He wants you to go to heaven. He made a way for you and He sent His Son to die to pay for your sins because He didn’t want you to do it. The only thing He asked you to do is to believe that He did it for you and you can handle that because you see you don’t earn it, you don’t work for it, you can’t buy it.
It is free, it is the gift of God. And once you believe that, He gives you as a free gift ever lasting life. He’ll never cast you out and he’ll never lose you. So if you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior, trust Him right now. And if you will, right on the screen says, yes, I’ll trust Christ as my Savior. We just like to know Petraeus someone does. So thank you and God bless you. Father, we ask your blessings now upon each one here.
For the study of your word, we ask your blessings upon us, help us to love each other as we should. And those that are stronger than the Lord always carry their responsibility and have lighten the load to someone else. Help us to care. In Christ and we pray, Amen. Don’t miss out on all the fun.
