You see, obedience means not that you have to obey some laws, but to obey the gospel means to believe the gospel. So when you and I believe the gospel, the blood that was shed is sprinkled in a sense like on the doorpost and on the loom. And when I see the blood, I’ll pass over you. We have had the blood of Christ applied to us. So I have on me in the eyes of God the blood of Jesus Christ has been applied Because by faith and faith alone in what Christ did now look again there in chapter 2 and You’ll notice what he says here in verse 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture be whole I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone elect precious and he that believe it on him shall not be confounded means he will not be ashamed ashamed, will not come up short.
And he says unto you therefore, which believe, he is what? He is precious to those who believe. Now look at the next part, but under them which be disobedience. So if believing is precious, what would disobedience be? Not believing. So when he says, because you have believed you were made pure and holy by the Holy Spirit and set apart, you belong to God. And that’s why he makes the statement here that you and I are precious in the eyes of God.
And we are precious in the eyes of God. But notice what also he says there in chapter one, in verse 19, when he says this, but with the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. So Jesus Christ was that perfect, spotless lamb, that all of those Old Testament animals that were sacrificed was supposed to be a type of. They had to find a lamb that was without spot, with no blemishes. And that’s why they were used to be the sacripe because they represented the perfect Son of God.
Now, go back there to the book of 1 Peter, chapter one. And you know that we covered the other night, word called grace. We went through and talked about the word called grace and in the other night we went through and we looked at the word called what is it? Suffering, hey, I’ll remember that. And now tonight I just want you to look at another word that kind of gives you a flow of what we’re talking about. Remember the Lord gives us this idea.
Suffering’s glory. Look what he says there in verse 11. Look in verse 11. So we know that as a Christian in this life, we’re not in heaven yet, but we’re going to suffer in this life. Just being in this body, living in this world is a time of suffering. Now some people might suffer more than others, but everybody suffers. You can suffer all kinds of ways. But it says in verse 11, searching what, talking about the Old Testament prophets, or what manner of time the spirit of Christ, which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand, get the sufferance of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
So the Lord is using Christ as our example, because it mentions that in chapter two also, that Christ is our example. What’s that? We suffer, and then glory. way we would like to have it is glory and no suffering. Will that be better? Nobody wants to hurt, nobody wants to suffer. Everybody wants a good, quiet, peaceful life just to be happy and with a pleasurable life. But God says, no, no, it’s not going to be like that. But we all pretty much go through the same things.
It’s just at a different times. And God knows exactly what each one of us need at a particular point in our life. So he makes a statement in verse 7 of chapter 1 that the trial of your faith been much more precious than of gold that perishes. So God says his blood was precious. He was precious. And so you have something else’s precious. The trials that you go through, remember we talked about that word a couple of weeks ago, is precious.
The trials, the problems that we have are precious because of what they do for us. They help build us. They make us walk closer to the Lord. Now remember this, problems in life can do one of two things. They can push you closer to the Lord or become like a wedge. It cause you to be separated further from the Lord. But whatever it does depends on your attitude. You can let the things in life be a stepping stone or a stumbling block.
So when you read chapter two, you’ll find out they stumbled over that stone. They stumbled over that rock. And that’s because they did not believe. So if you’ll continue to grow in the Lord and believe what God says, you can become stronger in your faith. And everything that happens is just a stepping stone. Or you can whine and pan and moan and groan and stumble all over the place and never learn how to walk with the Lord. So you’ll notice in the last part of verse 7, he says, though it be tried with fire, might be found on the praise, honor, and glory at the appearance of Jesus Christ.
So suffer now, and glory later. Look in chapter one in verse 11, where He makes that same statement, the sufferance of Christ and the glory later. Do what God wants you to do now, believing that down the road, When the time is right, God’s going to take his home and he’s going to give you all the glory you should have. The glory in this world, if it’s given by man, can be taken away by man. Whatever man can give to you, man can take away.
But God says his glory will last forever. It’ll never stop. So notice what he says in verse 21. Verse 21 says, Who by Him do believe in God that raised Him up from the dead and gave Him glory? Now because of what God gave to His Son because of what He did, the same principle is to be applied to you and I. Notice that your faith and hope might be in the Lord. Did not Jesus when He came into this world, he says, everything that he did, he did it to please his father.
He said, I did not come to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. So he did everything that he did, all the miracles that he did, it says he did him by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus as a man had to depend upon the Father and all the miracles that he did, He gave the credit to the Holy Spirit that did it for him and threw him. And this is why you’ll find out also if you’ll look there in chapter 3, look in verse 18.
Chapter 3 and verse 18 of 1 Peter. He says, for Christ also hath once suffered for sin, hear you sufferin some more. Get this, why did he suffer? The just for the unjust. No, that don’t sound fair. I should the just suffer for the unjust, because that showed love, it showed compassion, it showed forgiveness, it showed everything that God wants to show, didn’t demonstrate. You see, if all this wasn’t done, then God didn’t have a way to let you see how much He loved you.
So He says this, that He might bring us to God. Now why does God leave us here in this world? Why does God allow us to suffer here in this world? So that we can be used by God to bring people to God. But now instead of it just being one person like Christ was here, look how many children He has now scattered throughout the world. And God wants to use all of His children to bring people to God.
Look what He says here. Now we don’t have to do it to pay for sin. We don’t have to pay for anybody’s sin. We don’t have to die for it like that. All we want, He wants us to tell people about it. So in verse 18, he says that, He might bring us to God, been put to death in the flesh, quickened, made alive by the Holy Spirit. Now, this is what he did. But why is all this in here?
Because God says, the child of your faith, if you can understand. Look at Christ. He even mentions his in Hebrews in chapter 12. He ran a race, despised the shame, and he says, now, glory. So you and I are to run our race and suffer along the way. And God doesn’t always eliminate all of our problems. He wants you to be faithful in the midst of your life. problems. But he says he always makes a way of escape that you may be able to bear it.
We pray that God take away all my problems, solve all my problems. God doesn’t want to solve your problem. He’s the one who gave them to you. He’s going to let you have them. Now sometimes we have problems because we made bad decisions. But then we always blame that on the devil, right? The devil maybe do it. I didn’t want to do it. But he says, these things are going to happen in your life. So you’re understanding that? I’m understanding that.
So God gave him glory. Now look what he says there in verse 24 of chapter 1. In verse 24 he says, for all flesh is as grass and all the glory of man, the glory of man. You see God’s always given us choices as we we go through life. And the choice is if you want the glory of man now and you do what you do for the glory of man, well it’s going to be short lived. Why? Because all men that can give you glory are fading.
They’re like the leaves that fade and they’re going to die. So how long is your glory going to last? That people are going to give to you? Well can’t last longer than people last and they all die. You ever watch quarterback’s in the football game? He made a complete pass. Yay! He made another complete pass. Yay! Four touchdowns. Yay! Do an interception. Boo! Because if they can give you, glory, they can take it away from you. If you do things only to be seen of men, then God says you have your reward because that’s why you did it.
But if you do what you do for the glory of God, the gods that he’s going to give you glory. Suffered now, glory later, and it’ll happen. So he says in verse 24, for all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man is the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof, followed the way, and there goes the glory along with it. But he says, if you do the will of God, and you have been born again, and he says there in verse 25, but the word of the Lord endures for how long?
It endures forever. So if you’ll go ahead and as a child of God, if you’ll serve the Lord, God will give you glory that will last for all eternity. He wants you to remember, look who said this. Look at the example that Christ was for us. So he wants us to do it, but that doesn’t mean that everybody’s going to do it. Now in chapter 2, look in verse 20, chapter 2 and verse 20, he said, if you’re going to suffer in this life, suffer for doing right.
Now we can all do things wrong. So how’s things going? Well under those circumstances, what are you doing down there? How are you doing? You know, I’m just suffering for Jesus. Well what happened? I robbed this bank and they caught me and put me in jail. I’m just suffering for Jesus. Well, I don’t think so. So he says here, it looks in verse 19 first of all, for this is thanks worthy. In the words worthy to give thanks. If a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
So you know that people can cause you grief. You can suffer because somebody did you wrong. And if you’re any kind of a man, you’re going to try to make it right. So get a gun, shoot him. Now don’t do that. You may suffer and it’s wrong. But the one you serve knows it all. And he’s going to reward you for what you have done. Always seek to be faithful to the Lord and God is going to bless you.
So then he says in verse 20, for what glory is it if when you be buffeted for your faults. You did wrong and you took it patiently. What glory is that? He says, but if when you do well and suffer with it, now that’s differently. And you have patience, you can wait and… And you’re going to trust the Lord. So you and I are supposed to realize the trial of your faith. Your faith is on trial. And God is going to reward you.
He’s going to bless you. Now look in chapter four and verse 11. Chapter four verse 11 where he makes this statement in verse 11. If any man, any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God. Now we’re telling what God’s word says. If any man, minister, let him do it as of the ability with the Lord. God give it. For God in all things, that God in all things, and you ought to underline that word, may be glorified.
See, in this slide, if you and I, we give God glory. Well, doesn’t the Bible say somewhere if you, you’ll reap what you sow? If you sow to God, praise, honor and glory, what are you supposed to reap? Praise, honor, and glory. So if you sow that and you appraise the Lord now, not because everything is going your way, we used to say when it was in the Bible, it was going everything seemed like it was going wrong. Praise the Lord anyway, praise the Lord anyway, it doesn’t matter what happens, praise the Lord anyway.
Things are going good, praise the Lord, things are going bad, praise the Lord, praise the Lord all the time. If you will give praise, you will receive praise. You give honor, you’ll get honor. And if you give glory, you will receive glory. You will reap what you have sown. But the thing about this doing it here is that we sow it here, and we’re gonna reap it in eternity.
Can you trust God? Can you believe that God will make it worth it? Can you believe him? That will make the difference on how you live your life, who you live it for. So he says here, God, all these things may be glorified through Jesus Christ to home be praised and dominion forever and ever. Also notice down here in verse 13, but rejoice in as much as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings that when his glory shall be revealed, something else is going to happen.
When his glory is revealed, what did he say over there in chapter one in verse seven, look at it again. When he is revealed, you’ll notice what he says in the middle part of verse seven might be found under praise and honor and glory when at the appearance of Jesus Christ. He’s going to appear in glory and he’s going to give glory to you in the eye. In other words, you can’t lose serving God. You can’t lose serving God.
It will be worth it all. And notice what he says in the last part of verse 13 of chapter four, he says, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. Well done thou good and faithful servant. And you don’t have a clue right now what all that’s going to mean until that happens. And you’ll know the value of it someday. And we don’t really understand the value of everything that we do Now all we can do is live by faith taken.
God in his word that it will be worth it all. And so he makes the statement there in verse 14 of chapter four, but be reproached, or if you be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye? For the spirit of get this glory and of God rests at the pon you on their part. He is evil spoken of, but on your part, he is what? Glorified. God receives glory when you are reproach for his name’s sake. You do right and it doesn’t matter what people say and do, you bring glory to God.
God’s in one’s sin heaven and he knows why you do what you do. He knows what you’ve gone through. He knows every heartache and problem and despair. He knows it all and he says it is worth it. Now look in verse 16, yet if any man suffered as a Christian led him not be ashamed, but led him do what? Those two words? glorify God. Do you believe God wants us to bring Him praise, honor, and glory in this life?
When you understand the purpose of your life, it helps you to give Him praise and honor and glory. And then you won’t go through life always thinking, everybody owes me something. Or everything’s going to, you know, it’s for my pleasure, please me. No, seek to please the Lord in everything that you do. Now look in verse one of chapter five real quick. The elders which are among you I exhort who am also an elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ and also a partaker of the, and there’s that word again, glory that shall be revealed.
Peter is saying this. He says, I’m an elder and he believes this. And he also believed that in verse four and when the chief shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of what’s that word? Glory. That does what? Fadeeth not away. That word’s fadeeth not away. Where have we seen that phrase before? Why slap my mouth? Look there in chapter one and look in verse four that when you and I trust Christ as our Savior. here. We are born into God’s family.
We’re saved from something to something from hell, but to an inheritance is incorruptible and undefiled that fade not away reserved in heaven for us. So there’s a place that God has for us and you are kept by the power of God because of your faith that got you salvation down. He says, you believed it whenever you trusted Christ to save you took God in his word and God gave you eternal life. Look what you got just by trusting him.
I think there’s so much more that he has for us that we will not appreciate till we get there. All we have right now is God’s word on it. Didn’t you take God’s word that the only way for you to go to heaven was by trusting Christ as your Savior and Him alone? And you believed it. And yet there’s a heaven and there’s a hell. and you’re not gonna try to earn your way to heaven, you’re not gonna do good works to go to heaven, you’re not gonna join the church to go to heaven and give money to go to heaven, and yet you know you’re going to heaven because well he said so.
That’s the only thing you’ve got. Now what if you applied that to the Christian life? I’m on a certain because he promised, he promised, and I believe it, I believe it. Look at this last one here, I want you to see this. You’ll notice all the way down there in the verse 10 chapter five, he said, but the God of all grace who had called us unto his eternal glory. You ought to underline those two words, eternal glory. You see, with man it fades away.
With the Lord it lasts forever. And this is the security that you’re not supposed to have. This is what’s supposed to give us confidence in all that. And then he says in verse 11, him be glory and dominion forever and ever. You reap what you sow. So these things now, praise the Lord now, honor the Lord now, glorify the Lord now. And there’s another verse that says, I don’t remember where it’s found, but something along the lines of hearing is my father glorified that you, I didn’t hear you.
Very much fruit. much fruit. I know it’s in the Bible somewhere, maybe like in John 15 what? John 15 in verse 8. So this is one of the things that really glorify, brings glory to the Lord, because the only you can bring glory to the Lord by witness is because you’re telling somebody that God loves them. You’re telling somebody God loves you. Look up here. This is so important. Letting this hand represent you and me. And this wallet represents sin.
We all have sin on us. God loves us. He hates our sin, but He loves us. But for us, the pay for sin is eternal separation from God and hell. But God loves us and wants us to go to heaven. And to go to heaven, we have to be perfect as righteousness. God in no one’s perfect. No one can save themselves. And the only payment God will accept is a death payment. That’s why in the Old Testament animals were innocent.
They hadn’t done anything wrong. But an innocent life was taken and it only covered, didn’t take away their sin, didn’t pay for it. God was not satisfied with the blood of bulls and goats. So he said, this is only a picture. Down the road, there’s going to be a firstborn. It’s going to be a lamb without spotter blemish. And he’s going to live, and he’s going to die. This hand represents Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, came into the world because he loves us.
Hates our sin because our sin separates us from him. So Jesus Christ who had no sin did not have to die, but because he loved us, He wanted to show us how much He loved us. And that’s why even the statement on Him, He loved us so much He would rather die than live without us. See, there was no way for us to get to God. So He loved us so much He would rather die than live without us.
So he paid for all the sins of the world came back from the dead. Now it’s not applied until you believe he did that for you. When you as an individual, you believe Christ did that for me. He paid for my sins. So he puts this payment to your account and you get to go to heaven. Oh, what Jesus Christ did. You don’t earn it. You don’t work for it. You can’t buy it. It is a free gift. Now, people have heard almost all their life that Christ out on the cross paid for all the sins of the world.
Now why did they do that? Well, he didn’t want you to do it. So he came back from the dead and said, the only thing you have to do is the only thing you can do. What? Believe he did it for you. That substitution. He did it for me, because he loved me. And you can’t know you’re going to heaven until you know you can’t go to hell. I can’t go to hell. See why? All my sins are paid.
I don’t have any sins to pay for. You say you don’t deserve that. That’s why it says for by grace or you say through faith that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God and not of works lest any man should boast. It’s the best news in all the world. Let’s pray, shall we? With heads bowed nice, closed, and no one looking around. If you’re here tonight and you’ve never trusted the Lord, or if you’re watching by internet, And we have many people that watch.
If you’ve never trusted Lord, would you right now, the best you know how, will you believe that when Christ died, he died for you, he paid for your sins. You see, he may have died and shed his blood, but you see, it’s not applied to you until you believe. By faith, he did that for you. I believed it 55, 56 years ago. I know I have eternal life, not because I’m good, not because I’m better anyone else, but I believe He did it for me.
And if you’ll believe He did it for you, He will save you, give you eternal life, and never cast you out, and never lose you. You can know that you have eternal life. Know that you’re going to heaven when you’re dying. And if you’ve never trusted Lord, would you trust Him right now? I’m not going to embarrass you. I’m not going to have you forward, but I’m just going to ask you if what I said made sense. And if you will trust Christ is your Savior.
I’d like to know. So I’m going to ask you if you just raise your hand real quick, put a wrap back down. I got an impression, not going to have you for it. But you see, preach that made sense to me. And tonight, I will accept Jesus Christ as my Savior. And I want you to pray for me. Is anyone at all? Just slip it up very quickly, put a wrap back down. If you’re watching by internet, right on the screen says, yes, I will trust Christ as my Savior.
We could do that. I pray you will. Father, we thank you again for your blessings. Thank you so much for all you do for us. We do pray for these that we have mentioned, Jesse, and the opportunity that has been given to him and for these others that are in the hospital and some are at home not doing well.
