Now look there at the outline of the message, why the gospel of perfection requires extreme vetting from fake news. So I’ve been listening to the news lately and I keep hearing those words extreme vetting. I mean if you all have heard the same thing. Fake news, I heard in the words fake news. I thought this is a perfect title of a sermon and for where I’m going and what I’m going to be doing and I think it would make a great sermon because I want to make sure that they can discern between the truth of the gospel and fake news.
Because this fake news that many are telling people is causing people to be blinded. It’s not helping them to see. And many are discouraged there because I get so many emails. It’s incredible. People that are messed up because they’re listening to what preachers are telling them because they’re adding things to the gospel. Remember, the Bible talks about this, and I want you to look at this. Look there in the book of 2 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians and chapter 11, 2 Corinthians chapter 11.
And you’ll notice this is my text called the simplicity that is in Jesus Christ. The simplicity, that is in Jesus Christ. Now, when you have add-ons, then it complicates. So the Bible tells us here in verse 1, would to God, you would bear with me a little in my folly and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with Godly jealousy, or I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chase virgin to Christ.
But I fear, lest by those two words, very important, any means as the serpent begow Eve. He gave her some false news. He gave her some fake news, along with he gave her some truth. Through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. So when you and I believe fake news, things that God did not say, but we believe that God said it because we’ve heard somebody say that, And next thing you know, it affects what we do and how we live.
Then it’s because we have corrupted our minds. We’ve allowed faith news to corrupt our minds. And so we believe something that isn’t true. Isn’t this something that the devil does consistently to God’s people? You see, if you’re a lost, he always tell you you’ve got to work for it. And then if you are saved, he says, there’s nothing to do anymore. Don’t do anything. just always the opposite of trying to destroy God’s purpose in our lives. And so, I mentioned this to the college kids the other day.
These three things that I have listed here, salvation, service, spiritual life. They all start with a nest because if you’re an outline, you’re supposed to do. Right, Bob? That’s what you’re supposed to do. You’ve got to outline it with a nest. So you have salvation, service, spiritual life. So when you’re gonna talk about salvation, the issue is always grace and works. If you’re gonna talk to somebody about trying to win them to the Lord again, you gotta explain to them the difference between works and grace.
Grace and works, it’s so simple. So you understand that. So then if every one of these issues, whether it’s grace, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The people that got some fake news on grace. If all works, there’s people that got fake news on work. Service, the issue is always chasing and rewards. In other words, after you have trusted Christ as your Savior, the issue where they say person is chasing and rewards.
So did you understand serving them or what? What’s my motivation? Well, one, if you don’t, he got chasing you. Two, if you do, he’ll. Now both of those should be motivation. Have you ever told a child, do you do this? I wanna spank you? Why, you’re trying to motivate him not to do that. And if you wanted to do something, you reward them and praise them, compliment, and it goes a long way. So when we talk about the issue of service, it’s always chasing and reward.
But you don’t talk to a lost man about chasing and reward because he’s not a child of God yet. So you have to deal with this issue. And so that’s why whether it’s at camp, church, radio, I don’t care where, I’m always trying to distinguish the contrast, showing the contrast between grace and works. And when it comes to service, the contrast chasing rewards. Because see, if you don’t understand that, then you’ll think of man, well, if you’re really saved, you’re not gonna do those bad things.
No, you’re gonna do those bad things, but that means you’re disobedient. And because you’re disobedient, God’s gonna have to chase you. So it changes the whole narrative of what you’re teaching. And some people say, well, if he was really safe, he wouldn’t do that. So they deal with it, he must be lost. And so helping a person grow, they just push him back into diapers. Spiritual life is always the issue between the flesh and the spirit, between the old man, the new man.
And so this is talking about you as a person. You can be the old man or you can be a new man. And so you have to explain that if you don’t teach the two natures, you cannot understand the Christian life. It’s just not going to do it. Because you will not know why you do what you do. You’ll doubt your salvation. And so many people are not stable in their salvation so they cannot grow the way they should.
And so therefore I believe all these are very important issues. Is it possible that there’s preachers that are not clear on the gospel and they get grace and works mingled together and get it all mixed up. Now when they get that all mixed up it means they’re not clear to themselves. You see if a preacher one time preaches a clear gospel message and then another time he’ll preach a muddy message. Muddy is what he really is. Clear was the accident because if you’re really clear why would you mess it up, make it muddy.
You make it muddy because that’s what you really are. You’re muddy in your thinking. You’re not clear yourself. So if you’re not clear on how to explain the gospel, think what that does to the people that are listening to you. I would venture to say that the people here at Calvary Community Church have a clear understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ. They know what it is. And they can tell you that if they had a guy come up here, if I had a guy come up here and he was really muddy, y’all be able to pick it up.
And if he was to teach something about evidences of salvation, well, if you’re really saved, you’re gonna wanna blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and you’ll sit there, uh, uh, uh, uh, and some of you may start throwing bricks or something like that. If I’m sitting up here, I’ll handle it. Don’t turn, feather, I’m dragging them out of here. just be patient. I watched one time when Dr. Stanford, he had a guy come to church. His name was Peter Dinica.
He was a Russian evangelist. And he was well known back in those years, 1964, 5, and 6, and so on. So we’re sitting there in chapel and he has this man come and he’s Dr. Peter Dinica. I don’t know why I don’t remember his name after all these years. I’ve never met the guy except that one day when he had him in chapel. And he got a burn He was talking about asking Jesus into your heart. And buddy, He hammered on Jesus into your heart.
Well, everybody’s sitting there. Oh boy, this is going to be interesting. Because we know that as soon as He gives through, Ray ain’t going to let that go. Because he got to teach all of his students. So he would have a guy in that wasn’t clear. Just so he get a chance to tell us how come. And that person’s sitting there on the stage. And so when they get through and they sit down there, thank you, Mr. Donne. I really appreciate your sermon day.
But we do take issue with the sermon about the part about the asking Jesus in the heart. See here we don’t ask them to do that because we just believe that it just means when your mind you really believe something and he’d go ahead and explain it. Well the guy’s sitting there. One day they had a guy, he came up there and he sung a song. Here’s a little short fellow, but he was a churchy God. A churchy God.
But he was a student at the college. But he believed in internal security, salvation by grace. He didn’t believe in tongue, but he was a church of God. But he got it there in chapel one day and he sung the song. And his song was, It’s Such a Hard Road. It’s Such a Hard Road that we’re traveling and so forth. And he went on carrying on about it’s such a hard road. And all of a sudden they’re thinking, no it ain’t.
No it ain’t. And as soon as he got through, Dr. Tamara of holcup to the platform. He says, thank you. And again, his name was Luke. Luke, something I can pick up for him. Anyway, look to Adam and it says, you sing very well. Sing very, very well. But the song, it has a doctrinal error in it. And it’s not a hard road. And you see, I’m going to make it somehow. It’s hard, but I’m going to make it somehow.
It’s doctrinally incorrect. And he says, and also the Lord says, take my yoke upon you and learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart and so forth. And you shall find rest unto your soul. Take my yoke upon you. He says, my yoke is easy. My burden is light. He says, now, there is a yoke of iron in the Old Testament, but that’s whenever it’s the law. And he said, I’ll put a yoke of iron. I said, that’s what makes it heavy.
So it didn’t matter what the people did. It would be wrong. Boom. He’d correct them. But we learned how to distinguish, to discern those things. Now look there in this verse where he says in verse 4, for if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive another spirit or another gospel. See there’s three things here that’s false. And that’s a false Jesus, a false spirit, a false gospel. So he was afraid they would wind up believing some of these things.
Because of the simplicity that’s in Christ, Satan wants to add to it. Complicate your mind, complicate your life, and so that’s why you have to understand some of these things. Now in 1 Timothy chapter 1, very quickly, let’s take a look at this. I won’t get all this done, you know that, you can tell that my already got a lot of opening remarks. But in the book of 1 Timothy. 1 Timothy chapter 1 and notice what he says in verse 1 and 3.
He makes a statement, chapter 1 verse 1 through 3. He says, Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope. Undentemitly my own son in the faith, grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. As I be sought lead to a bide steel at Ephesus when I went into Macedonian, that thou might have charged some that they teach no other doctrine. See that phrase?
Teach no other doctrine. Because see, once you know the correct doctrine of these different positions that we take here, you’ll understand the correct position on the gospel and on the service and the spiritual life. Because remember this, when we talk about grace, there is a body of truth concerning grace. And when you talk about works, there’s a body of truth concerning works. And therefore you understand about the law and about the flesh and what it can, it cannot do the limitations.
So there’s a body of truth from the Word of God. Don’t add to it, don’t take away from it, leave it, say what it does. And when we talk about the issue of chasing, there is a body of truth concerning that. There’s a body of truth concerning the rewards. So when we study doctrines in the Bible, yeah, we always talk about ecclesiology and theology and theology and and theology and theology and eschatology and blah blah blah blah. But there’s other bodies of truth that are very important for the Christian to know and understand.
So we have to be careful that we don’t add our opinions into these critical teachings because we don’t, we don’t like the way it’s worded or something. And we want to change it and people don’t like that so we can’t cover that. Teach the Word of God. This is what he told him, he just preached the Word. Just preach the Word. And so that’s what we want to do. Now look what he says here in verse 11. In verse 11 says, according to the glorious gospel, now the glorious gospel is the perfect gospel.
You see, the perfection of God, all have sin come short of his glory, short of his perfection. So when we talk about the glorious gospel, then the gospel must be perfect. Do you have to be perfect to go to heaven? Then that means that if we’re going to preach the gospel and a man gets saved, if that gospel that he believes or trusts in does not make that man perfect, it’s not any good. It’s insufficient. Because if you’ve got to be perfect to go to heaven, does that message you believe make you perfect?
If it doesn’t make you perfect, it’s inadequate. Your life can’t add to it. Can your life make you perfect? No. Then something you’ve got to believe has to make you perfect or it doesn’t work. So I added a few things down through here. Look at number two. In your note, the perfect gospel can make a man perfect. But once you understand it, it helps you to realize you don’t try to get a lost man to do anything to make to improve himself because it will not work.
Look at letter A, Hebrews chapter 5 and verse 9, Hebrews chapter 5 and verse 9. And you’ll notice it makes a statement in verse 9, and being made perfect, talking about Christ, he became the author of eternal salvation. Now anything that has to be eternal has to be perfect. If it’s eternal, it has to be perfect. It is eternal salvation. And to all them that obey him, and we know that obey him means to believe the gospel. So when you believe the gospel, the gospel is to make you perfect.
Now another thing, look there in Hebrews chapter 7, Hebrews chapter 7. And notice what he says in verse 11, if therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood for under it the people received the law, what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchizedek and not be called after the order of Aaron. In other words, if the law could make you perfect, then you wouldn’t needed to make another sacrifice. None of those things had to be done, but they had to make sacrifice over and over and over and over again because the sacrifices didn’t make you perfect.
Look what he says down here. What you needed was in verse 16, who is made not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of a what kind of life, endless life. In other words, he never dies. After he came back from the dead he has an endless life and that’s why he can give to us this endless life. Look what he says in verse 19, for the law, the law made what perfect? Nothing perfect. But the bringing in of a better hope did.
So whatever the gospel is it has to make you perfect or it’s inadequate. Well how does the gospel make you perfect? I know you’d ask that. Well, when you trusted Christ as your Savior, what did He give you? You see, if He simply tried to convert rearrange this old man and then improve this old man, now it’ll never work. So God had to give you a new birth. It is your new birth that’s born of God. Your new birth is perfect.
It means it was born without a sinful nature. Your old birth was born with a sinful nature, that’s the difference. A second birth without a sinful nature, if it’s born without a sinful nature, it doesn’t sin. If it can’t sin, it can’t die. That’s why once your child and God, you’re his child forever, it gives to you this perfect birth. Now look in chapter 7 verse, let me see another verse that I wanted you to see here. Alright, we’ll go over there into another one.
Look here in verse 6 of chapter 8. But now, hath he obtained more excellent ministry by how much. Also, He is the media of a better covenant which was established upon better promises. The first one, see, depended upon man keeping the law. Man couldn’t do it. The second one is based upon God keeping His promise. Now, would you rather go to heaven keeping the law, promising to keep it? Or you rather have eternal life, keep in his promise. He promised us eternal life.
This is what he did for us. Look there in chapter 9. In chapter 9, I don’t know if I have this in your notes or not, but it might be there. You have chapter 9 verse 12. Sometimes I go through these things so many times, I don’t even remember what I wrote down in my notes because sometimes I go by them sometime at home. But Hebrews in chapter 9, first of all, I want you to look in verse 9, verse, verse 9, which was a figure for the time then present in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices that get this could not make him that did the service perfect.
Why is all these words about perfect in hearing the Hebrews? Because we’re talking about to go to heaven, to have eternal life, you’ve got to be perfect. And the law cannot make you perfect. But something else did, something else could. So that’s why he says down here in verse 12, looking verse 12, neither by the blood of goats and calves, But by his own blood, he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained. See those two words. Those two are very, we got it online.
Eternal redemption. I’ve been redeemed for how long? Forever. Eternal redemption. And then notice what he says here in verse 15. And for this cause, he is the mediator of the New Testament that by means of death for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament. See, we all sin and broke the law. because of the first one. And then Christ came and died on the cross, paid for our sins. Then he says, which are called, might receive the promise of what kind of an, if promise of eternal inheritance.
Here’s the promise that he made to us. You see, there’s people who are trying to earn eternal life by the law, it doesn’t work. It made nobody perfect. But there’s another promise that God gave to us that through his son and what payment he would make, would give to us and make us perfect. I like that a lot better. Now look in chapter 10 and look in verse 1. For the law having a shadow of good things to come and not the very image of the things can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually get this, make the comers there unto what?
Okay, make them perfect. All the sacrifices in the Old Testament never made anybody perfect. All those who try to keep the law never made anybody perfect. But there’s something else that did. So the gospel that we preach, if it doesn’t do the job, why tell people the gospel? If you have to be perfect to go to heaven, if believing the gospel doesn’t qualify you, then what else have you got? It’s not by your works. Now look at the next verse.
He says, for they then would they not have ceased to be offered? Because that the worshipper once purred should have had no more conscious of sin. In other words, I shouldn’t have any more sins to make a sacrifice for it. If the sacrifices were to pay for all my sins and I don’t have to make another one. So God says, I had promised that a body has stopped, prepared mean. Now look what he says there in verse 5. The last part of that verse says, but a body has to out prepare me.
This is talking about Christ. And then he says in verse 7, I come to do thy will of God. This one that was going to be born in this body that didn’t have a sinful nature, that didn’t have to die. He was the perfect Lamb of God. So he says there in verse 9, come to do thy will. Verse 10, by the which will we are sanctified, made pure and holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Then notice what he says in verse 12, but this man after he had offered one sacrifice forever, forever, for sent, sat down on the right hand of God. I think all the work was done. Verse 14, for by one offering he had, present tense, past tense, I guess you could say, perfected forever than that are sanctified. So in God’s eyes, this message that we pray, this glorious gospel, makes us perfect. That’s the new birth. And nothing that we’ve ever done or ever will do, by this old man can never change what’s been done for the new man.
And that’s to me is the best news that you’re never here. In other words, I have no confidence that I’m going to finish this tomorrow. But at least they’ll have a few notes and I probably have to jump around a little bit and I don’t know how much time they’re going to give me. Probably ten minutes. No. Last time I’ve broke, every time I’ve preached I’ve been able to preach at least an hour. So that’ll be good. So y’all just know to keep me in mind.
I just want to, I just know what it will do for the individuals who finally, when the light clicks on, they see it and says, That’s what I need to be doing. I need to make the gospel clear. And I want to be a blessing. I want them to see and understand the two natures. I want them to understand this thing by grace and works. Don’t you think that’s a good thing for preachers? Don’t you think if this gospel is so important and there is a real hell, shouldn’t preachers preach the same gospel message?
How can it be different? There’s only one gospel. How can you change it? That means that somebody has believed some fake news. They’ve added something to it that doesn’t belong to it. And what it does is confuses the preacher, he’s confused, confuses the people that are listening. And we want people to understand, to be able to discern them. Look up here. This hand represents, you know what was interesting, I get sidetracked who he is. As soon as I got through I walked in there and somebody at 1202 indicated that trust Christ is their Savior 12.02 this morning.
And then this afternoon somebody else, I think it was a Wisconsin or someplace like that, did you see that? Man, I’d look to see you, I don’t know where they come. And so, but anyway, and another one this afternoon. But you never know who’s watching, and so one was, like I said, different countries, different states sometimes. And so how many people are watching tonight? I don’t know. But isn’t it great to know that we’re going beyond the walls of this church, and that we’re reaching people in other places?
I think it just awesome. It really is. Anyway, this hand represents you and me, and the wall represents sin. We all have sin on this. Now God says that He loves us. He hates our sin. And everybody sins. Everybody does wrong. And to pay for the sin is eternal separation from God, but God doesn’t want us to be separated from Him. He wants us to be with Him. He created us. He wanted us to be with him. He loves us.
He wants us to love him. So he did something for us that all it calls everybody to love him. In other words, we’ve committed sin. We ought to pay for it, but he says you cannot earn eternal life. All your good deeds will never pay for your sins. So this hand represents Jesus Christ. He’s the Lord God in a flesh. Came into the world because he loves us, hates our sin because our sin separates us from the Lord. So Jesus Christ who had no sin, did not have to die.
And he says, a body has stopped, prepared me. And he became the Lamb of God that took the sins of the world upon himself. Paid for it came back from the dead. And he says, if we’ll believe he did this for us, we have a payment for all of our sins. He has separated us and he has sanctified us. That means we’ve been made pure and holy. Set apart, we belong to the Lord. And we have been perfected forever.
And that’s why He says, you’ve been washed from your sins and so forth and you hear people talking about it, I’ve been washed in the blood. I was talking about His dead pay for my sins and I accept what He did for me and I get to go to heaven on what Christ did. You don’t earn it, you don’t work for it, you can’t buy it, you can’t add anything to it. It’s truly a gift of God. Let’s pray, shall we?
you here tonight or if you’re watching by internet either way remember all that you have to do this is the only thing you can do is where you believe that when he died he died for you that he paid for your sins and if you will trust him as your Savior he’ll give you as a free gift of our lasting life so if you’re watching by internet right there on the screen says yes I will trust Christ as my Savior if you trust the Lord just click it on say that just lets us know that somebody trusts the Lord we won’t know who you are but we’d love to know but you’d have to contact us.
If you’re in the auditorium, if you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior, I pray that you would. Most of you I’ve seen and I’m known, but wouldn’t it be a shame to get to heaven and find out that some of you never really trust the Lord? You heard it a thousand times, but never trust the Lord. I pray that you will. Father, we thank you again for your blessings. Thank you for all you do for us. Thank you for those that work so hard and I want them for these kids, those that are dedicated to their lives to working and we’re there in the helping them.
