A man has nothing to do with saving himself. And you trust Christ to do the work. He gives you the new birth, puts you in his hands, and now never cast you out and never lose you. And you can know you have eternal life. And it can never be anything less than eternal security. Now that you are a child of God, you want God to use you. Don’t you want to do something for the Lord? I always wish that I had a Father that if I did something, my Father would be proud of me.
I’ve never had that experience. My mom left my dad when I was seven years old. Last thing my dad gave me was a quarter and that was my inheritance. You see, I would have loved to have had a father that as you did things in your life that say, you know, I’m proud of your son. I’m proud of you. And I want to do things to make my dad proud of me. him. See now I’ve been given a new Father, a heavenly Father, and I want to make my Father proud of me.
I want to do what God wants me to do. So this is what he says in Psalms 31 and verse 3. He says, for thou art my rock and my fortress. Therefore, for thy name’s sake lead me and guide me. The loving hand of a loving God, knowing that He’s placed me in His hands, and knowing that my Heavenly Father, whom I cannot see, loves me so much. He said, I’ll never leave you, never forsake you. And that He would indwell me forever, wants to lead me.
He wants to guide me. So I said, Father, how will you guide me? How are you going to guide me through life? And he says, Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel. And afterwards receive me to glory. So it’s been about 57 years now since I’ve trusted Christ as my Savior. And he has walked with me and he has guided my life. I have enjoyed my walk with the Lord. But I know one day my walk is going to be over.
And he’s going to receive me in the glory. But see, my walk doesn’t affect my destination, but it sure has made the travel awesome. I’ve enjoyed knowing the Lord and walking with the Lord. But you see, there is a loving Father who cares about each and every one of his children, and he wants to bless his children. He wants you to know him kind of like he knows you. Now he’ll guide me with thy counsel. Did you know that the Word of God is God’s counseling?
It’s God’s love letter to his children from the hands of a loving father. He gave us a love letter and it says, I want to guide you. I want to give you counseling because you see, we are all like sheep. We’ve gone everyone to his own way. And we want to direct our own path and be whatever we want to be and go where we want to go and do whatever we want to do. And sometimes we fail to remember, I belong to my Father.
My Father loves me. And you see, God guides you with the counseling of His Word. And if you don’t study His Word, the only thing you What you’ve got left is your judgment. And that’s what leads you astray. The Bible says in Jeremiah, it is not within man that walk of to direct his steps. You’re not smart enough to guide yourself. You don’t know it. And you don’t always know the right way. The Bible says the devil will deceive you with a lie.
But you can know the truth, and the truth will set you free from the lies. Now, he said, I will instruct thee and teach thee. In the way which thou shalt go, I will guide thee with mine eye. It means that the eye of the Lord is always looking out for His children. And 139th Psalmy says, his thoughts about me are continually multitudes of thoughts from God about little O’mee. So God is not only my Father, but He is a loving Father.
And He knows what will bless me and what will hurt me. And anything God says, don’t do this, it’s because God knows that’s going to hurt you and it’s not the best for you. Always do right. The Holy Spirit that lives inside of you will never lead you contrary to the truth of the Word of God. And to know and to understand that God wants to guide me with His eye because He sees everything. He knows everything. He knows the future and he wants to guide me.
Now would I be a wise son of God to rebel against such wisdom, such love, to think I can do better without him? Some people are very arrogant and feel would pride. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. Now get this, in all thy ways, thank God. In all thy ways acknowledge Him. And He might or shall, He shall direct thy pass. You see, you have a heavenly Father who just didn’t give you birth and born you into His family and then forsaken you.
He is watching over you. And if you will obey Him, He will bless you. And if you disobey Him, your loving heavenly Father is going to have to chase in you, but it doesn’t chase in you because he hates you. He didn’t stop loving you when he saved you. He loves you forever. Do you trust the heart of your loving Father? Do you trust his heart? He’s like, just search me, oh God, and know my heart. Try me. Know my thoughts.
In other words, your appeal should be to your heavenly Father to search you, to try you, to see if there’s any wicked way in you that needs to be dealt with. You’ve got to be corrected. You see, whenever you read the study of the Word of God, it’s the mirror that helps you to see your soul, to see yourself the way God sees you. take away the mirror and you don’t really see how you are. You think you might look pretty good, but that’s only because you’re comparing yourself with what other people say and do, but you go to the mirror, the Holy Mirror, the perfect law of liberty, and you study and see how God wants you to be.
And seek to bring your life in accord with the counseling of the Word of God, and you be surprised the joy that will be there, the peace, the love, the happiness, everything that you want, it is right there. But if you go astray and you go your own way, do your own thing, you’re not going to like the results. No one can go against his heavenly father and win, impossible. He says, and see if there be any wicked way in me and leave me in the way that lasts forever.
That’s what I want to do for my life. Will God deal with me if I disobey him? What if I don’t do all these things God wants me to do? Well, he will chastise me. But you say, well, what’s chastisement? I’m glad you ask. There are some verses in the Bible that kind of Let’s just have an idea. Chasing is a kind of heavenly father’s loving correction. And there’s different stages of it. Sometimes you can just take a child that doesn’t obey and just look at him, give him a look that they know.
You better correct that. And sometimes you might have to just say a word. Sometimes you might have to raise your voice. Sometimes you might have to get out the two before. Now, whatever God does with you, depend upon how you are responding. Some people as soon as something’s revealed to them and it’s not right, they’ll correct it right away. And then there’s some of God’s children. You can beat them half to death and they don’t listen. You ever have a kid like that?
Are you like that? Ooh, that hurts. So, Jason is the kind of correction. It’s a rebuke, a reprimand, reproof, teaching, training, included an act of expression of criticism that could lead to a sensor of blessings or rewards or help or life. Remember, it’s the Lord’s Supper. And he talks about when you do not judge and discern the Lord’s Supper correctly. He says, many are sick, some are weak, some are what? Dead. Those are the results of disobedience to the Lord who did not correct the problem in their life.
God will not make you do anything. He’ll just let you suffer the consequences of bad decisions. Now, God’s chasing for His children is not an anger and hate vengeance like God got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and looked over to the banister of heaven and said, well, I’m going to get you today. No, He’s a good God. He’s a loving Father. See Him that way. God may use a kind, gentle approach. He may use a firm hand if need be.
God may use a strong, extreme measure, but He always tempers it with love. You see, God loves His children. He loves you when you do right, He loves you when you do wrong, He loves you. But because of how good God has been to us, He has stretched out His loving hands to pay for our sins. And He has reached to us through some means to get the gospel to us and we trusted Christ as our Savior. He has placed us into his loving hands.
And he says, and I’ll never let you go. So even if you run away from the Lord and you try to get away and try to hide whatever you wanna do, where can you go that God isn’t? Can you climb up into heaven? He’s there. You could go down into hell, he’s there. Where can you run to where you will not be in the presence of the Lord? You and I as a chalice God are taught to always live as though we’re actually in the very presence of the Lord every day of our lives.
Whatever you do, the Bible says, do it all in the name of the Lord and for his honor and for his glory. Whatever it is, is it right? He says, examine yourself, examine yourself. Not everybody, just examine yourself. Is it right? Is it honoring? Is it something you can say to someone else, follow my example, follow my example. Put the Lord first in everything. My son, despise not the chasing of the Lord. How do you despise the chasing of the Lord?
When you become weary of his correction, when you faint, means give up and quit and not serve the Lord because you didn’t like God telling you know about something. You didn’t get your own way. You didn’t get to do what you wanted. And God put roadblocks up. God resisted you. Have you ever had a child that Daddy can I have the car? No.
Though a tantrum stomped their feet, walked out the house, slammed the door. Was anything wrong with the kid’s attitude? Do you think that God is concerned about our attitude? That we don’t do what we do because we love Him. We just want God to get off our back. Ever seen kids who want to get away from home and they don’t want their parents’ correction. They don’t want mom and dad to know how they really think and feel. They want to get on their own and make their own living.
Get away from mom and dad and next thing you know they don’t make it for some reason. Maybe mom and dad knew they weren’t ready to face life yet. Or maybe there may be a few people that do but a lot of times people want to get on their own and go their own way. It’s a form of rebellion. Most parents don’t care if the kids get out and make a living, get on their own, if they’re ready and if they’re right and if they’re making wise decisions.
But when you know they’re making foolish decisions, you know they’re not ready. They’re not ready. And you don’t want them to fall because you love them so much. You don’t want them to hurt themselves. And you don’t want them to put scars on themselves that they’ll have on down the road for the next 20, 30, 40, 50 years. And most parents love their kids.
Proverbs 3.12 says, For whom the Lord hated. Nah, whom the Lord of the 11th, he does what? He corrects. And sometimes that correction comes from the pastor, from teaching you the counseling of the Word of God. Sometimes it comes from your mom. It might come from your daddy. It might even come from the kids. Do you know that sometimes out of the mouth of the babes, truth shows up. That God may counsel you through a person, a neighbor, whoever you work for.
You see, God uses people. to you helps you. You see, when a person wants to do what’s wrong, did you know the devil always has some people there to help him? When you want to do what’s right, it’s amazing how that God can come along and have some people come along and try to help and guide you. You see, God uses people, the devil uses people. It all depends on which way you want to go and it’s so important.
So the purpose of chastisement. It is demonstrating God’s love. It proves ownership. It brings reverence and respect. It is for our prophet and it produces righteousness within us. So there’s a reason that God may chase in his children. Now remember, he can never cast you out. He can never lose you. Nobody can ever pluck you out of his hand. You have eternal life. It is secure. But it doesn’t mean that as a Christian you can live as you please and get away with it, but you can live as you please.
You just can’t get away with it. Your heavenly Father is going to chase in you. So he says, for whom the Lord loveth, he chases, glards of every son whom he receives. It demonstrates God’s love. So God may have to chase in you. Means he may have to take you to the woodshed. He just liable to have to apply a little woman along the way. But he’ll do it in a lot of different ways and you’ll never be able to figure out how God’s going to do it.
You may choose the form of rebellion and God will choose the form of discipline and He may even take you home before your time. So it proves ownership. If you endured chaste and God deals with you as with sons for what son is he whom the Father chafed, if not. But if you be without chastisement where of all our partakers then are you bastards or illegitimate sons, you’re not as child. God is going to chase in every son whom he receives.
Now you and I as we look at life, we don’t know whether or not God’s chasing everybody. Because some people can live a godly life and suffer persecution and go through a lot of hard times. Usually when that person must not be saved. No. And you watch somebody else and it seems like everything is going wonderful. Well, they must be a Christian doing right. No, they could be a carnal person not doing anything right and it hasn’t failed yet.
Don’t prejudge. Don’t you try to worry about what’s God doing in somebody else’s life. You just take care of you. You watch and guard yourself. Examine your life and see how are you doing. Now, this is why this is so important for people to understand. See, it brings, and it’s supposed to bring, reverence and respect. Did you know that when I got within arm’s length of my dad, I paid him all the respect in the world? Because, buddy, if I didn’t, if he could reach me, I’m done for.
I’m a dead man. As a child, I died many deaths. I’m gonna write a book one of these days. But I learned some valuable lessons from my dad. I don’t like weapons. So I decided I don’t want my heavenly Father whooping me either. I would rather have him bless my life. So we give our earthly parents reverence. Then God says, what about me? What about me? You see, it’s for our prophet. He says, for they, barely for a few days, talking about our parent, they chasing us for their own pleasure.
I didn’t know that. I didn’t know my parent quote me because they got a kick out of it. But you know, sometimes they just want peace and quiet. And if you don’t get peace and quiet for their pleasure, they beat the Torah out of you because they want it quiet and stop arguing. Pfft. But there is a lot of good parents who try to do what’s right. But what the Lord you can always count on is, it’s for your profit.
God wants more for you. He wants you to be happy, he wants you to be blessed, he wants you to have rewards when you get to heaven, and not to have a life filled with regrets. So the reason for the chasing is to produce the righteousness of God within you, in your life. Because God wants you to be holy. He wants you to live a godly life. And of all the spankings that have ever got, I’d never enjoyed them.
But afterwards I can guarantee this, yes ma’am, yes ma’am, yes ma’am, yes sir, yes sir, yes sir, yes sir, yes sir, well I gave him reverence. And I had to try to watch what it did because I didn’t want to get another one. It produces the fruit of rice to see God may have to chase in you because He wants you to do right. Isn’t it nice to know you have a loving Father who doesn’t want you to do wrong?
He wants you to do right. How could you turn against a God like that? Now, the importance of the Lord’s Supper. This is what we’re going to have here this morning. But I want you to understand it because, see, this is really from the loving hands of a loving father. This is our Heavenly Father’s Fellowship with the family. You see, we can have a church fellowship. Last night, it was over at Bob Gilbert’s house and we were having a wonderful time of fellowship.
And it was wonderful. Just some of the college kids and the staffs. We had a great time of fellowship. Well, God the Father prepared a table and he says, this is a divine command, a call from on high for God’s children to come together. He says, I want to serve you. So when we have the Lord’s Supper, we’re just an extension of the hands of the Lord. He says, I want you to do this in remembrance of me. Now I want to show you the verses.
I have received of the Lord that which also I deliver to you that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed He took bread Jesus took the bread and You’ll notice that the bread and the cup are from the loving hands of a Loving Father here Jesus when he was here He took it and he gave it it was from his hands You see, and when He had given things, He break it and said, take He, this is my body, which is broken for you.
This do in remembrance of me. God wants us to remember what He has done for us. He wants us to remember. Because you see, what He did for us was a demonstration of God’s love for us. when we continually do this, it’s God’s way of reminding us, you remember, I loved you? Look how much I loved you. I loved you so much I paid for all of your sins. And I came back from the dead and I offered you eternal life because I love you.
I love you. I love you. And I also want you to know I still love you. I still love you. After the same manner, we took the cup when he had stopped saying, this cup is the New Testament in my blood. This new you is often you drink it in remembrance of me. It was Jesus that offered to come. We’re told that we should have the Lord’s Supper in his word. But this is the Lord’s. And when we take the bread and the cup and we pass it, we’re just an extension of the loving hands of a loving Father.
You see, it was his love that made it possible for you to have eternal life and to be born into God’s family. You had no power. You could not qualify. You could not perform. He did it all because he loved us. And he says, I want you to do this in remembrance of me. Remembering what? How much he loved us. and that He still loves us. And that we’re still in that loving hands of the Lord. And no man can ever pluck us out.
And regardless of whether you have obeyed Him and served Him or whether you’ve been rebellious, the Bible says, examine your life. But He says, don’t do this in an unworthy manner. If you realize as a child of God that you’re not doing and living the way God wants you to live, then you ought to just let it pass. And that breaks the heart of the Lord. Because you see, it’s the Lord offering you this bread. You say, Lord, I can’t take it.
It’s like rejecting His love, rejecting, rejecting. Don’t do that. Your heavenly Father forgives because He loves. loves. And if you will realize that and understand this, let me give you this last point. Communion service reminds us that Jesus loved us and that He still loves us. Do you believe that? Communion service is my way of saying, I love the Lord for what He has done for me and for what He is doing in my life even today. I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow.
I don’t care. He may be checking me out of here. But I’m thankful to the Lord for loving me and for still loving me. And that’s why the communion service that we have here at this church is so important. It’s never to be taken lightly. It’s not just a game. There’s a God in heaven who guides us with his eye. That means his eye must be on us. Y’all remember a song that somebody sung years ago, his eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me.
I heard a black lady sing that song one time. What an awesome song. His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches over me. Look up here. This hand represents you and me. The wallet represents sin. We all have sin. God loves us. But he hates our sin, but he loves us. But he can’t let us in heaven because of sin. So we had to pay for it. A debt payment. And the Bible is the wage of sin is death.
Eternal separation from God in a literal fire burning hell. So the Bible says, God loves me. He doesn’t want me to go to hell. He wants me to go to heaven. to heaven, but I got to be perfect and I’m not. So how can God get me into heaven? He loved me so much. He sent His Son Jesus Christ. And He only had one and He sent Him into the world because He loves us, hates our sin because it separates us.
So Jesus Christ who had no sin didn’t have to die. So He took all the sin of all the world, why? Because He loved paid for it on the cross, came back from the dead, and he offers this payment to whosoever in the world wants it. And if you’ll believe he did it for you, he’ll put this payment to your account and you get to go to heaven on what Jesus Christ did for you. That’s a gift. It’s totally free because he loves us.
If you have never trusted Christ as your Savior, trust him right now. And the Bible I said, if you’ll believe this, you can know that you have eternal life. You can know that you’re going to heaven whenever you die. Let’s pray, shall we? But his bow nice clothes, no one looking around. If you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior, would you trust him right now? I’m not gonna have you forward, not gonna embarrass you, but right where you’re sitting.
You said, preacher, that made sense to me. And I will right now, I will accept Jesus Christ as my Savior. Would you do that? If you will, trust him. I’m gonna ask you to raise your hand. Raising your hand doesn’t save you. It just lets me know that what I said made sense to you. You say, preach to that made sense to me and I will trust Christ right now. And I’d like for you to pray for him. We’ll just hand it very quickly, put it right down.
Is anyone at all? Yes, God bless you, man. Anyone else? Remember, if you trust Christ right now, He saves you right now and you never have to do this again because He gives you eternal life. Never cast you out, never lose you. Anyone else before we close? If you’re watching by internet, same thing goes for you right on the screen. It says, yes, I’ll trust Christ. my Savior, I pray that you would. And while your heads are still bound in eyes closed, if you trusted Christ as your Savior, you’re a child of God.
Communion and service is God way of saying, I did this for you because I loved you. I want you to take communion and service because you love Him, because of what He did for you. You don’t have to, but it’s the sign of your love for the Lord. Examine yourself. Our Father, we thank you again for your blessings. Thank you for this time together. Bless each one of you in here.
