So take your Bible and turn to the book of Psalms. Book of Psalms, okay? You know when I first trusted the Lord, I could not get these names down. Palms and Job, I didn’t want to jump with them. I guess if you wanted a job, you could read that book. And Book of Leviticus, Malachi, Deuteronomy, Leviticus, you know, all those books. But this is an interesting chapter. Psalms 50, the 50th Psalm. Now it kind of starts off before that, but just kind of look real quick with me.
Just look at the first verse of Psalms 147. Praise ye the Lord, for it is good to sing praises unto our God, for it is pleasant and praise is comely. God loves to be praised. God loves you to sing praise to Him. Look there in verse 1 of chapter 148. Praise ye the Lord. Praise ye the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights. Praise ye him all his angels, praise ye him all his hosts, Praise ye him, sun, moon, praise him, all ye stars of light, praise him ye heavens of heavens and ye waters that be above the heavens.
And then look at verse five, let them praise the name of the Lord for he commanded and they were creative. That’s a pretty good reason for praise of the Lord. And then look in verse one of chapter 149. Praise ye the Lord, sing unto the Lord a new song and his praise in the congregation of saints. That sounds pretty scripture to me. Look in verse 5, let the saints be joyful in glory, let them sing aloud upon their bed.
You know it seems like God wants everybody to sing. You see, well I can’t sing. There is a verse that talks about joyful noise and it’s just the noise it it might be joyful toramid the years of the Lord. Now look in Psalms 150. Praise you the Lord, praise God in his sanctuary. Praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts. Praise him according to his excellent greatness. Maybe you can find some reason to praise the Lord.
You know, praise him with the sound of the trumpet. Praise him with the softwry and the harmonica. Ever played upon the harps. harmonica in glory land. Verse 4, praise him with the timbre in the dance and praise him with the stringed instruments and organs, praise him upon the loud symbols, praise him upon the high sound and symbols. And looking verse 6, let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. I want you to do me a favor.
I’m going to say the words praise the Lord and I want you to say praise the Lord twice as loud as I do. Can you handle that? Praise the Lord! That was pretty good. That’s not bad. Take your Bible and turn to the book of Matthew chapter 6. Matthew and chapter 6. But look there in verse 25. Verse 25, therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor yet for your body for what you shall put on is not the life more than me and the body than Raymond.
Behold, the foul of the year for they so not neither do they reap nor gather into barns yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are you not much better than they. You ever sometimes wonder, am I worthy? Of any value that God might look after me. Are you afraid that God’s gonna figure it out a little low you? You know, sometimes the older we get, we think about, you know, being put in a nursing home or a rehab place, and we get older, we can break bones and, you know, you’re healthy.
You know sooner or later you’re gonna come down with cancer, you can come down with this, and, you know, it’s just there. And we know that if we’ve already lived so long, we know that we’re not gonna live forever. And that day gets closer and closer and closer. But I guess that’s why we’re supposed to, the Bible says worry, worry, worry about everything. No, cash your cares upon him, for he cares for you. Be anxious for nothing. He means don’t worry about things because there’s a God that does look after us and does care about us.
And then he makes a statement here and I want you to see this. Look down here in verse 32, for after all these things, the things of the world, taking care of yourself, just me, me, me, me, me, he said to Gentiles, see, for your Father, heavenly Father, know it that you have need of all these things. Do you think your heavenly Father knows what you need? No, he got totally shocked and surprised. He didn’t see that coming. The Lord knows everything.
And he says in verse 33, But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. In verse 34, take therefore no thought for tomorrow, for the moral shall take thought for the things of itself. So fission unto the day is the evil thereof. In the Lord God has enough evil for every day, worry and doesn’t solve it. But he gives us grace to bear everything that we need on every day.
Regardless of what the day may hold for tomorrow, you should understand God is going to give you all the grace and the strength to do what’s right tomorrow. Regardless of what that day may bring forth, and we are not supposed to worry about it. Look there in the book of Luke chapter 9. Luke and chapter 9. Luke chapter 9 and look in verse 23. And He said unto them, if, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and that little word daily, you should underline it, but make sure you understand.
It’s a daily responsibility. Well, I served the Lord yesterday, so I got the day off. No, serve the Lord every day. You don’t take a day off. You don’t take days off from God. you are it on your job or you’re on the vacation or wherever you are, you’re still or on the job spiritually. You have a spiritual responsibility. I do not care what and therefore remember that. And remember, take up his cross daily. Follow him. That means follow him every day.
Thank the Lord for every day. This is the day that the Lord hath made. I will rejoice and be glad in it and be looking forward to tomorrow. Rejoice, this could be an exciting moment. And so always look at it that way. Look at Psalms 55. Go back to the book of Psalms in chapter 55. Psalms 55 and look in verse 17. Psalms 55 and verse 17. Just so you kind of have a little bit of an idea, you see you need daily strength, strength for every day.
Just because you got through yesterday, I made it through yesterday. Okay, this is today. Tomorrow you’re going to need more daily strength. Always be looking to the Lord, always trusting the Lord. Don’t let bad news cause you to fall apart. I’ve, I just got bad news right before I came to church, but the bad news is not going to cause me to fall apart. I cast it all upon my daughter. First of all, look in verse 22, cast thy burdens upon who?
The Lord, and look at the rest of it, and he shall sustain thee. He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. In other words, you can be as rock solid as you choose to be. You don’t have to let the things of the world so shake your world and shake your life that you fall apart. And sometimes you say, I just can’t and handle it. Yes you can. You and the Lord can handle anything. But without the Lord you can do nothing.
But Palesto Lord you can handle it. You can handle it. Now look at verse 17 where it says, evening and morning and at noon will I pray and cry aloud and he shall hear my voice. Believe it. Because it’s true. Now, look in Psalms 34, Psalms 34, Psalms 34 and look in verse 1. Verse 1, I will bless the Lord sometime. Some of the time. Most of the time, that word all you might need to kind of make a note of that.
Isn’t it easy to praise the Lord sometimes? But there’s sometimes, Well, you might want to curse somebody else. Like I said, I’ve never sworn a cuss word in my life, but if you had wrote a piece of paper, I might sign them. But Psalms 34 and verse 1, I will bless the Lord at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Isn’t that a good verse? That’s a wonderful verse. And look in Psalms 50. Look over there in Psalms 50.
the 50th Psalm and look in verse 23, verse 23. Verse 23 says, “‘Whoso offereth praise glorifyeth me.'” Now, do you want to glorify the Lord? Now, there is a verse in the New Testament in the Gospel of John, chapter 15, here in his My Father glorified that you bear much fruit. God does want us to be so winners. But you’re not doing that 24 hours a day, but there are times when we need to praise the Lord. Praising the Lord is simply bragging on God.
You’re bragging on God. Or is it easier just to take the credit for everything, brag on the Lord? And look what He says in this verse, who so offerth praise glorify me. So do you want to glorify the Lord? You want to please the Lord? Learn to brag on the Lord. Learn to thank the Lord. Sometimes when things seem like it’s so ugly, praise the Lord. Then you begin to understand a little bit about what Job was talking about when it says the Lord giveth and the Lord take it away.
What? Blessed be the name of the Lord. That’s praising the Lord. Blessed be His name. What a wonderful blessed name. So when he had it, he praise the Lord and when he didn’t have it, he praised the Lord. Now he had a few little questions and little hang-ups here and there, but they got them all worked out because the Lord made him make sure that he let us reason together, say, of the Lord and they did a little reason together.
So it was good. But look at the last part of that. And to him that order with his conversation or behavior, all right, will I show the salvation of God? God always has a way out of everything. Remember when you read in the book of Corinthians in chapter 10 where he talks about in verse 13 that there have no temptation taken you but such is his common demand but God is faithful and who will not allow you to be tempted above that which you’re able but will make a way of escape that you may be able to bear it.
God says opposite. Now who do you believe? Don’t lie to yourself, don’t deceive yourself. Don’t give yourself an excuse not to be found faithful. Don’t blame, well, I would have been faithful. It hadn’t been for her or him or, no, no, no, they have nothing to do with your faithfulness. Nobody can stop your faithfulness to the Lord because faithfulness is of the heart. You can be behind bars and be faithful to God because you do what you. What you can with what you have where you are and learn how to be content and cast those things upon the Lord.
Look in Psalm 67 Psalm 67 and look there in verse 1 and verse 1 says God be merciful unto us and bless us cause his face to shine upon us and then look in verse 3 let the people praise the O God. Let all the people praise thee. Now does that mean everybody in the world? Does that mean everybody in the church especially? Should there be everybody that’s in this room? Should everyone praise the Lord? You see the more you learn about the Lord and the more years you put down in your walk with the Lord you’ll see how good God has been to you and you learn how to just be thankful to the Lord and be praised in the Lord.
But it says here, look in verse 4, oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy. So if he says nations, didn’t he say go into all the world and preach the gospel to every preacher? I mean every creature. So everybody Should know the Lord. Do you think if that’s true God wants every nation to be a Christian nation? We should not be ashamed to be a Christian nation. God says anyone who worships any other God than him is worshiping idols.
They’re idol worshipers. There’s only one true in living God and Jehovah is his name and he had a son named Jesus and we ought not be ashamed of being a Christian. that we go to a Christian church, that we have a Christian home, or we are going to have a Christian nation. And we ought not let the atheist take our name from us. But this is little by little what they’re doing. So we ought to be proud of what God has done to it.
Now look at the last part of verse 4. For a thou shalt judge the people righteously and govern the nations upon the earth. Now you You know this day is coming, this day is going to come. But it’s not here yet. Now take your Bible and turn over there to the book of Deuteronomy, Deuteronomy in chapter 33. Deuteronomy chapter 33. Toward the end of Moses’ little book writing. And he wrote some pretty good stuff here, but he made this statement about Asher in verse 24.
He’s talking about the different tribes, he says, and asher, he said, let asher be blessed with children. Let him be acceptable to his brethren. Let him dip his foot in oil. Ah, that’s interesting. Verse 25, thy shoe shall be iron and brass, and as thy days, so shall thy strength be. equal to the day. God will give you strength equal to the day. God’s the one that knows what each day will hold and God wants to prepare you for that day.
You see if you would listen and learn and grow in the Lord you’ll be strong to handle every day that comes along and God will see to that but you have to lean on him. Trust in the Lord with all by heart. Lean not unto that on understanding in all by ways, acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Now we know this, but we’re supposed to believe that. Because you and I are God’s children, we live in this whole world, do you know that praise and Lord gives you strength, makes you stronger, makes you happier?
But But when you’re dissatisfied with everything that goes on, it makes you have a, like you’re an old sour push. I mean, your chin is so low that you trip over it. You know, it looks like you’ve been baptized in lemon juice or something. And some people are just plain sour. They’re just sour. So all they do is just sit, soak, and sour. And you don’t want to be like that. You don’t want to grow old and just be a mean old person.
There’s enough mean old people. Has anybody called you mean lately, besides your husband? I mean, your wife. You just mean. Now, there are some people that are mean. I’m so glad I’ve never been called mean. You know what? You know, I like the influence that you can have in little kids’ lives. You know, this morning, I don’t know if y’all noticed it, but we had Brian Anderson here this morning. him. He was sitting right back here. And he’s a great guy.
He went to Fort Obama College and he’s just a great individual. Anyway, we went into the office to talk and so I closed the door so we could have some, no little privacy, just for a few minutes before he could hit the leave. And I said, those are my kids. I said, come in and they were just knocking. But I thought, good night. The whole churches out there. So anyway, I think Betty, you open the door? I must open the door.
Yeah, I open the door. And there was these four little hungry munchons, you know, these four little rug rats. And they said, Candy, I happen to have a little dictionary. The Betty started this. And we have it over there on the shelf. And if the little kids, they want something, they can always come to my door and they can go in and get some candy. Well, since then, You know, I’ve got Jesse coming and getting his. And I got Steve Yant coming in there.
You know, these little kids, they’re just nothing but big kids. That’s all they are. They’re just big kids. All of y’all are nothing but big kids. You But those four little kids came in here and I said, okay, you get two apiece and some of them can’t count. And it takes forever. I said, no, which one you want and they’re all, sometimes it’d be nothing but the tootsie rolls. The whole thing of tootsie rolls and they’ll still stand there for five minutes can’t figure out which one of those to get.
And they’re all the same. I said, okay, you can have two. Oh, no, I want this. No. I said, just take one. Take two. Take the whole thing. No. But they are so cute. And you know those kids, they’re going to grow up one of these days and they’re going to remember that. They didn’t have to be afraid of the preacher. I want them to know the preacher likes them. I love those little kids. of these days, I may have to borrow some money from their bank.
Always be nice to the kids. Be nice to your own kids. They determine which nursing home you’re going to go to. But it’s a… As you’re going through life, you’re just so in seeds on purpose, just dropping out little interesting things along the way. And so be nice to people that you don’t need to be mean and unkind. It’s so wonderful. I love these little kids when they just laugh and they smile and sometimes you’ll notice that I’ll be over there in the kitchen and those little kids will come up and they’ll hug me, they tell me they love me and they draw a piece of paper and they put my name on it, pastor and they draw my picture.
Well they could have left that off but they they draw my picture and all the kids signed it. You know what I did with that? I put it in there and it’s yeah I got a great big old oil painting in there and I put that thing right beside it. And a couple of days later, at the cumulus kid they came by, I said, let me show you what I did with that thing and I put it as I said, see there?
Because I want those kids to know I value yours just like I value this one because it came from their heart and they’re just as real and they’re just as precious. Learn to be nice little kids and then it takes a lot more work to be nicer to the teenager. Then it takes a lot of patience to be nice to the adults. But everybody needs a kind word. I was in the restaurant and I ordered some stuff and sometime I get a new waitress.
What would you like to have? I said, what a hot cup of black American senior citizen discount coffee. Coffee. So you want that black? hot cup of black American senior citizen discount coffee. Black. You want cream with that? Oh. And then they should come back later and she says, and what would you like to have? And I said, I want this and this and this and this and this and a kind word. I did that one restaurant. And she looked at me and she says, don’t eat the eggs.
She’s like, some people just, it’s just their nature, you know, to be antagonistic. But I’m glad none of y’all are like that. Learn to be sweet, learn to be kind. Everybody’s having a rough time. Everybody has a rough time. Everybody hurts in some way. Sometimes you don’t get out of everything. It’s just like you one from one thing to the next. It never ends. So you’re going to have hard times, but learn praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Anyway, look up here.
Letting this hand represent you and me. The Bible says that God so loved the world that you and me. And the Bible says that you and me that we’ve all sinned. This represents sin. We all have sin and love. But God says that He loves us. He hates what we do wrong. And the Bible says that God says the payment for sin is death. He eternal separation from Him. So we have a debt to pay. But God loves us, wants us to go to heaven.
God wants us to be happy more than anybody in the world. He’s the one who designed everything, but nobody wants to listen to Him. Nobody wants to listen to God. But His way is the only way that works. And His, I used to tell somebody, he says, you know, if you don’t hit the fifth on the fourth, you’ll be able to go forth on the fifth. And I said, some people, all they know is about I haven’t hangovers, hangovers.
And I’ve had to be, but you just don’t know how to enjoy life. I said, but my kind of fun, there’s no sorrow that follows it the next day. I don’t have the sorrow that follows it the next day. I don’t have the hangovers. I don’t have to get up and vomit and all of it a place and so forth. I don’t have to even… I don’t remember what I did. I don’t remember where I was. I don’t know who I am.
I don’t have to worry about that. I’ve never had to drug myself with all kinds of drugs, you know, like people getting in the end. They’re drugs. What do you got to drug your mind for? It’s because you can’t handle reality. The Lord in this book is better than any drug, it’s better than any high, anybody can ever be on. Because it doesn’t let you down. They got to have to pick them up and put them down. This book stays the trip.
This is a big gigantic medicine cabinet. And so read these two verses and see me in the morning. This is medicine. Medicine to the soul. It makes you stay happier. It changes your countenance. This is the book of life. life, not death. Anyway, this is even made sin. Christ had no sin, so He didn’t have to die. So He took our sins, paid for them on the cross, came back from the dead. And He says, whosoever anybody would believe, that’s all we have to believe that He did this for us.
He would put this payment to our account. I get to go to heaven on what Christ did for me. Eternal life is a gift. You don’t earn it, you don’t work for it. It’s free. And this is why it’s so important. You see, if I offered you my Bible and you accepted, you’d have a Bible. But remember, if Christ offered you eternal life and you accepted, oh, should you have eternal life? Well, if it’s eternal life, I’ll loan it at last forever.
If it lasts forever and all you send are paid, where are you going to go and you die to heaven? So can you know you’re going to heaven before you die. Of course. That’s what it’s all about. So if you believe you have to earn your way to heaven by your good deeds, then you can’t know you’re going to heaven. Now you have to wait till you die to find out if you’re good enough. Well I can save you the time.
You’ll never be good enough. If you lived a perfect life from this day forward, you still don’t get to go. See why? You messed up before you ever got there. Eternal life is the gift of God. not a works list any man should boast. Let’s pray, shall we? But his bow nice clothes. No one looking around. If you have never trusted Christ as your savior, would you trust him? Would you believe that when he died, he died for you?
You can do that in your own mind. You can do this. Don’t you want it? Don’t you want to know you’re going to heaven when you die? Friend, you’ll never deserve it. None of us do. It’s not because while we go to church and we’ve got to do this, we’ve got to stop this. No, No, no, no, no, just forget all of that. Just right where you are, say, I’m a sinner. Christ died for sinners, that’s me. He loved me.
And if I trust in my heavy eternal life, and I believe he died for me, and I’m gonna trust him as my only hope of going to heaven. And if you’ll do that, God said he would save, he can give eternal life. And if you’re watching by internet tonight, or if you’re in the auditorium, if you trust Christ as your savior right now, God will save you. And if you’re making that decision, I like to know and I like to have prayer for you in closing.
And if you would, would you just slip your hand up very quickly, put it right back down? You’ve never trusted the Lord. Trust Him right now. Anyone all before we close. Our Father, we thank You again for blessing us. We thank You for Your Word. And Father, to help us to remember how important it is to keep praise in You. Every person always in Christ’s name we pray.
