your Bible also and looking to look at John chapter 11, the book of John chapter 11. So you see, he is who he claimed to be, but there were people that did not believe that, didn’t believe he was who he claimed to be. Now, is his promise true that whatever he says he, He will do. In John chapter 11, I want you to look there in verse 19. In verse 19 of chapter 11.
And many of the Jews came to Mary and Martha, or Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother. Now the comfort they could give wasn’t exactly the comfort they were looking for. You see, they had already sent word out to find Jesus and tell them that, you know, Lazarus was sick. Well, Jesus didn’t come. Lazarus died. Now, Jesus knew that Lazarus was going to die. But Mary and Martha didn’t know. It didn’t look like Jesus was very concerned about their particular problem.
And there was supposed to be a close knit little group. So they was a little upset with Jesus because he didn’t do what they wanted him to do. Now it’s easy for us to become bitter individuals because we don’t always see God doing what we would like for him to do. So he says here in verse 20, then Martha as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming and met him, but Mary sat still in the house. Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hath been here, my brother had not died.
He’s dead because it’s your fault. If you’d have been here, this wouldn’t have happened. We told you in time, but you didn’t listen. I wonder if there’s other words that could have been in here that’s not all in the scriptures here, because the last part of this book says there’s a lot of things that happened that are not written down. She says in verse 22, but I know that even now whatsoever, I will ask of God God will give it the.
Had confidence in him, Jesus said unto her, thy brother shall rise again. Martha said to him, I know that he shall rise again at the last day. We know that. She believed in her resurrection. But Jesus was talking about, I am the resurrection. I mean, I can do it now. I don’t have to wait until the judgment day. I can do it right now. In 25, Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life. He didn’t believe it than me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.
And who shall ever live it now? And believe it than me, shall never die. Believe us, thou this? And of course, her answer was, Yea, Lord, I believe that thou art the Christ, son of God which should come into the world. And when she had so said she went her way and called Mary her sister secretly saying the master is common called for them. As soon as she heard it, she arose quickly and came unto him. Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
The Jews then which were with her in the house and comforted her when they saw Mary that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her saying she got under the grave to wait there. Then said Mary. Then when Mary was come where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet saying unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hath been here, my brother had not died. Seemed like sisters are saying the same thing. You’d have been here, he would not have died.
When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping in verse 35, Jesus went. Now why did Jesus weep? If you ever really thought about why did Jesus weep? Why did he cry? If Jesus wept, why did he weep? Anybody got a good answer? You want to throw it out right now? Why did Jesus weep? He’s going to die twice. He’s going to die twice. He’s going to die twice. Now I haven’t heard nobody say that, but that’d be true.
He’s going to die twice. He’s already in a place of comfort. And he’s going to bring them back into this miserable old world, and he’s angry about Why did he die? Why did he weep? Anybody else got a good thought? Why he wept? What’s that? Compassion for the sisters. The other people were weeping and I think it says somewhere in the clings of the Aztees, you know, weep with those who weep. But here’s Jesus, the Son of God, could it be because they didn’t believe what he said or there’s some questions or doubt or he’s been blamed and they yet knew who he was and things are not working out for them.
There could be maybe a reason that maybe we don’t know. But I was thinking about this. Eddie and I mentioned this before, he sing this to your songs that, well I still feel the nails every time I fail and I do something that’s wrong and as far as the child of God and if I don’t serve the Lord after all that He’s went through to me. Does that grieve the Holy Spirit? Does that grieve God? Can we cause Him grief because of our unbelief?
Maybe in anything because whatever His word tells us to do and we refuse to do it, could He look at that as we’re just rebellious children? We can’t trust Him, we can’t take Him at His word? But whatever it is, Jesus went. And they He said, look at this, how He loved him, verse 36, then said, did you be whole how He loved him? Well, maybe that is the reason that He loved him so much. But Jesus knew what He was fixing to do, and it’s not like, well, I miss Him and He’s been gone and I didn’t get a chance to say bye.
He’s the Lord. He’s fixing to raise Him from the dead. He’s fixing to see Him. So it does become interesting, but he raised him from the dead just like he had the power to do it. And if he had power to raise a man that’s dead from the dead, I wouldn’t want to blame him or be unkind to him or be matted him when I realized what he could do to me. Don’t it make a little sense? I want you to take your Bible looking to book of Acts, chapter two.
The book of Acts and chapter two. Acts chapter two and look there in verse 22. Because the scriptures tells us what God had planned and how that Jesus Christ had to die at the hand of sinners and all this wickedness that took place upon him. and that he was going to raise him from the dead. In verse 22, ye men of Israel, hear these words, Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God, among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as you yourselves also know.
Him, been delivered by the determinant, counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken and by wicked hands, have crucified and slain, whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that he should be whole in the bid.” In other words, death could not hold him. Death could not hold him because he had power over death, and death couldn’t keep him down. He had the power to lay his life down. He had power to take it up again.
And yet it was all prophesied in the Old Testament. Now you read the rest of these verses and actually goes back to the 16th Psalm where David made the statement about Jesus Christ, his soul would not see be left in hell or his body see corruption. Turning your Bible to John chapter 10, the gospel of John and chapter 10. And you’ll notice if he can raise himself from the dead and if he can raise Lazarus from dead, then it’s evident he can raise us from the dead.
He’s talking about our bodies and they will live again. So it’s not the end of a person just because, well, we have a funeral service, a person has died and we often say he’s gone to his reward. Well, I don’t know if heaven is a reward. I don’t think so. It’s not like he’s earned the right to go to heaven. No. He might go to his reward if he’s got rewards. But I’ve noticed that I have never been to a funeral world.
The preacher actually tells us all about the wicked things this man has done in his life. We always come in about how good those people are. One of these days I thought about, if I had the courage, tell it like it is. I mean, let this dirty scoundrel up here. I mean, just like an atheist, all dressed up and know where to go. And you can know just tell them what kind of a person he really was. And so I let Mama one day she was sitting here with a little daughter and the preacher was up here talking about how wonderful this man was.
And she leaned over and she says to her little daughter, she says, go up here and see if that’s your daddy in that casket. Because we never want to say anything bad about anybody. I’ve had to do funerals where I’ve not had Well, all the right words I’d love to say. It’s so much easier when the person has trusted Christ as Savior and you can say that and they’re gonna heaven and blah, blah, blah, and you’re gonna see Him again.
And some people I’d hate to say, well, you’re gonna see Him again. Well, where did He go? Well, He went to hell. And nobody, we would never tell anybody that. Cause you don’t know if the person trusts the Lord, it didn’t. But unless I talk to them and they give me a testimony that they trusted the Lord, I usually don’t say, well, they come and they die unless I know they trust with Christ to say, but I do say this, wherever he is, he wants you to trust the Lord.
Isn’t that true? Wherever he is, but sometimes that leads it open and yet be very careful. You’re supposed to try to comfort people at a time like that. Jesus had to go through that, but now look what he says here in chapter 10. In chapter 10, looking verse 17, Therefore, death my Father loved me because I laid down my life that I might take it again. No man take it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.
This commandment have I received of my Father. So you’ll find out that the Bible says the Holy Spirit quickened him in the book of Peter, chapter 3 verse 18 so on. Holy Spirit did it and God raised him from the dead and Jesus says I did it. It looks like the Father of the Son and the Holy Spirit are all involved in raising up Jesus from the dead. But the key thing I wanted you to see is I have the power to lay it down and I have power to take it up again.
So if he has all this power and the greatest thing that we know about is a lot of can go on the surface in this life of what we can see and understand. But let’s say, for example, if Bob Brooks right now was to die. But right before he dies, he says, now I want y’all to understand. In a week from now, I am going to come back from the dead and I’m going to ride a donkey into the parking lot sitting on it backwards, playing a banjo, and seeing a Yankee Doodle went to town and we wouldn’t take him at his word, we wouldn’t believe it at all.
But a week later lo and behold, here comes Bob and he’s doing exactly that. We were thinking that Bob knows something we don’t know. Bob has an ability that we don’t have. When he’s seen the future and he had to make it happen or something’s going on. So before I would get upset with Bob, I’d want to find out who are you. Where’d you come from? How did you know that? The Jesus told him all of this. He says, I am going to be crucified.
I’m going to die. And in three days, I’m going to come back again from there. He told his disciples this over and over again. And they didn’t get it. And still, they did not get it. But he told him what was going to happen, and there was a great division among the people because of what Jesus Christ had said. Look in Ephesians chapter 1, the book of Ephesians in chapter 1. Ephesians chapter 1, and look there in verse 19.
Verse 19. and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe? According to the working of His mighty power. So there is a power that we don’t see and don’t understand the magnificence of the magnitude of it. Even when He talks about the gospel, it is the power of God unto salvation. In words, it has the power to save a person, to create a new life, a spiritual life. But look what he says here in verse 20, which he wrote in Christ when he raised him from the dead, when he raised him from the dead and said him at his own right hand in the heavenly places.
So this is what is done concerning Jesus Christ, that we might know the power of his word. Look what he says in verse 18. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saint. I’d mentioned this earlier, but we are his inheritance. This is what he gets because of what he’s done. And the Father is going to give us to the Son.
That’s why he says, all that the Father gives me shall come to me. And him that cometh me, I’ll in no wise cast out.” So that verse is not actually talking about when you trust Christ as your Savior at that moment. He’s talking about the Father is going to give us to the Son. We are His inheritance. I believe that would be the correct understanding of that. But I still like to use it when it comes to salvation that when you trust Christ the Savior, he’ll never cast you out and never leave because it’s still the same truth.
The principle is still true. Take your Bible and turn toTraditional 19, the Gospel of John in chapter 19. John chapter 19 and look in verse 30. In verse 30 says, and when Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he says, it is finished. Now, there’s some people that say, well, how How can Jesus say it is finished if he hasn’t died yet? He has to die. Well, for ears to hear and for us to know, he has to say it right before he dies.
The work on the cross was done. Remember from the six hour, which would be about noon, until the ninth hour, which would be about three o’clock in the afternoon, it was dark upon the earth. And it’s a good possibility that he was, That’s why he cried out, my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Because he was paying for our sins on the cross. And he died. And right before he died, he says, it is finished. He had done the work he came to do, and then he bowed his head and he died.
And it was all over? No, something else happened. He came back again from the dead. Now take your Bible and look in Matthew chapter 27. Matthew and chapter 27. Chapter 27 is a long chapter. They got a lot of good stuff in it. But Matthew chapter 11, look in verse 45. But remember while he was on the cross, they had said many things to him. If you are who you claim to be, then why don’t you come down and save yourself and save us?
Well, that was just the point. He couldn’t come down if he wanted to die on the cross and pay for our sins. And he couldn’t save himself. You see what he says here? Just look there first of all in verse 42, he saved others himself, he cannot save. If he be the king of Israel, let him now come down from the cross and we will believe him. You really think they would have believed him? No. So he ford… He trusted in God, let him deliver him now.
If he will have him, for he said, I am the Son of God. The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. But somewhere along the line, one thief changed his mind. Remember in that small bit of time on the cross. Both these were the same in the condemnation of Christ. But something happened in the one man changed his mind and says, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus says, today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
And that man on the cross, what did he do to save himself? Well, he had to get down off the cross. He had to go to church and get baptized. And he promised that he would not do anything wrong anymore. I mean, here you are on there. Well, you promised to serve me. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Yes, sure will. You only had about a few minutes to live. No. So in verse 45, now when the sixth hour was their darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.
And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice. So, Nila Ila, Leno Sebastian, that is to say, my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why have you forsaken me? Because he has taken the sins of the world upon himself. So by the time he says it is finished, the payment for sin has been made. He died and was buried. And he came back again from the dead. Now something that most people never see, I don’t know if they know this was in the Bible, but look what he says in verse 51.
When Christ down on the cross, remember his body was like the veil, And it was in, when you open up this veil, there’s Jesus. He had housed himself in a physical body. So his body was torn and lo and behold, we get to see the Chicano glory. You get this is Jesus. This is God in the flesh. That was God in that body. And that is like the veil of the temple being rent from top to bottom in order to open up the entrance into the holy of holies.
And so that’s why the Bible says his body was like the veil in the temple that was rent for us to make access into the presence of God. But notice what he says in verse 51, and behold, the veil of the temple was rent into from the top to the bottom, not from the bottom to the top. And the earth did quake and the rocks rent and the graves were open and many bodies of the saints which slept arose.
There was a resurrection. So not only did Christ come back from the dead, but there was other saints who came back from the dead. And in verse 53, Anne came out of the graves after his resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared under the many. What would that do to you. If you lived there and you saw that happen and here’s, here’s Sandy and she had just buried Len and all of a sudden here he is again.
I was told this man and woman they went to Israel while it went over there the man died. They were going to figure out whether to fly him back to the States or just bury him in the Holy Land and she says no, We’re gonna take him back. We’re gonna take him back to America. So you know it’s gonna take $5,000 is taken back. It only cost a couple of hundred dollars to bury him here. She said, yeah, but I read somewhere that another man was buried and he came back from the dead and I don’t wanna take that chance.
So anyway, now in verse 54, when the centurion and they that were with him, watching Jesus saw the earthquake and those things that were done, they feared greatly saying truly, This was the Son of God. I’ll never forget when I saw that moving John Wayne says, truly this is the Son of God. I mean, Bob was talking about that today. I mean, remember John Wayne saying that. A few of y’all, you have to be a few old, oh, folks, he’s in here to go back in time unless you see it brought up to date.
But these things in God’s word is so real and so true. But I want to see one last verse before we close. there in the book of 1 Peter. 1 Peter chapter 3 and look in verse 18. 1 Peter chapter 3 verse 18. And this is on page 13, 14, 13, 14. And verse 18 says, for Christ also hath once suffered for sins the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. Why did He do what He did?
That He might bring us to God. There was no other way that He might bring us to God, get them being put to death in the flesh, but quickened or made alive by the Holy Spirit. Now look up here. I love it when I give an invitation in there’s a… Well, when there’s fish in the tank and you can catch some fish, I love giving the gospel and then sin people trust Christ as Savior. And I love it when I know that somebody online has trusted the Lord.
Or when they write me a letter like the one that I got yesterday. But this hand representing you and me and Waller represents sin. We all have sin on us. Now God loves us. Now He hates our sin, but He loves us. And because He loves us, He hates the sin because He can’t let sin into heaven. sin into heaven and how do we get rid of it? The wages of sin is death. That means to be eternally separate.
It’s from God. So how will I ever get there? God says, it’s beyond your power. You don’t have the power to save yourself, to change the situation. That’s why it’s not by the works of man. So man cannot save himself. This hand represents Jesus Christ. He’s the Lord, God, and the Holy Spirit came into the world. He had no sin, didn’t have to die. He He has the power, He’s God. He could walk on water and He could forgive sins and He could do all the things that He did.
But because He loved us, He died to take our place, came back from the dead. And said, the only thing He wanted us to do is believe He did it before He paid for my sins. Christ died for me. Took my sins, He paid for them and I believe it. So when I believe it, He says that He puts His righteousness to my account and I go to heaven on what Jesus Christ did for me and that’s the best news in all the world.
Let’s pray, shall we? With every head bowed and every eye closed and no one looking around. We know that once we’ve trusted Christ as our Savior, we know we have eternal life because we have eternal life. Yes, we’re God’s children and God has the power to do many things for us. But one of the things I read to you earlier is that when God answers our prayers because He can do it according to but there’s something God says, He doesn’t do for us because we can do it.
And there’s a lot of things we can do. Sometimes we’re just lackadaisical, nonchalant, sometimes slothful. But the key thing is when it comes to salvation and how to go to heaven, we don’t have any power at all. We can’t contribute to it. The only thing we contributed to our salvation is our sins for which Christ died. So if you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior, if you’re watching the Bible internet, right where you are, just the best you know how, would you trust Jesus Christ as your Savior?
And on the screen it says, yes, I will trust Christ as my Savior. I wish you would just let us know by just clicking it and let’s us know that the message is getting out and somebody heard and somebody received. Follow me, thank you again for your blessings. Thank you for all you do for us. We do pray especially Lord for this week. It’s an important week, But I know it’s important in the lives of every person here, and everyone’s having a hard time.
But I do pray especially for good doctors that you’ll guide them, your lives, their skills and all that they have, all that they know. But Father, you’re the great physician. We come into your hands, and we just ask your blessings, and quick healing of the body. And we’ll praise you for everything that you do. We ask your blessings upon this church, and all that’s done. we give you the honor and praise in all the glory and Christ’s name and pray.
