We pray that you will enjoy our commitment to the clear gospel of Jesus Christ, and that today’s message will be a blessing to you and your family. Abraham was justified not because he stopped the works of the flesh, and so circumcision was a separation that you believed on Christ, and that you’re not justified by your works. And the whole thing about being circumcised was a sign of the seal you believed on Christ.
And so this became a sign for the whole nation of Israel, and they were to teach their young boys about justification by faith alone in Christ alone for the glory of God alone, and that nobody can be saved by their works. And so that is the like the flesh. The first birth is the flesh. When you trust Christ’s Savior, that’s the new birth. And so he says here, And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith, which he had yet been uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all them, and you had to line those two little words.
All of them that what? Believe. So what does Abraham found that you’re justified by faith and faith alone? Now, just so you get this, look here in Romans chapter 3 and verse 28. Romans 3 verse 28 and lo and behold look what it says. And verse 28, therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law, without works. And so now he takes in chapter 4 and shows you how the Abraham was saved by faith alone.
And David, how was David saved by faith alone? You know what was interesting to me? Ron Seacher, Ron, who has the solid roptiological seminary over in India, where Berba Boudrum has a ministry also down in Trinidad of a Bible Institute, which is an extension. And he called me up the other day about three days ago. And he says, you know, that little book that you have on the Declaration of the Gospel?” I said, yeah, he says, can you send me some of those?
He says, that’s the best and the clearest that I’ve ever seen on explaining the Gospel in the Old Testament because it’s, I’ve got it and it’s in the bookstore. And so I put that thing out. But I’m glad that somebody thinks enough of it that they want some copies of it because he gives them to the seminary students. And that’s a little booklet that I wrote on the Declaration of the Gospel. So I told Betty, I said, send him 50ENDED of him.
one of our missionaries and so he’ll take them over there and be able to use them. But this is what I’m talking about, how were they saved in the Old Testament? What’s the same way we’re saved? Now, also, he says, the father of them, all that believe, though they be not Jewish, circumcised, that righteousness might be imputed unto them, what’s the word say? Also, righteousness can be imputed, put to their account, not because of their works, but because of what what Christ did for us by faith alone.
Then look what He says. And the Father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our Father Abraham, which He had been yet uncircumcised before,.. He ever became the Hebrew that That was going to be the father of a great nation. Now get this in verse 13 for the promise. because he made a promise to Abraham, that he would justify the heathen by faith alone. That’s what he promised.
That he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. So God had promised to Abraham before Moses ever come along, before there was any law that he was gonna justify the heathen by faith alone. in verse 14, for if they, which are of the law be heirs, then faith is made void. And the promise made of none of that. So that’s why he’s saying here, if you are saved by the law, by your works, then God would be in debt.
And what do you need faith for? Is either me trusting what Christ did, and this is why a little statement I put out not long ago in one of my newsletters, that salvation is actually a decision to trust, not a commitment to serve. And most people get that wrong. They think salvation is a commitment to serve. No, it’s a decision to trust. I’m trusting Him to save me, but a commitment to serve means I am saving me. Is there any difference in?
It’s a a lot of difference. And that’s why this is so important. So here in Romans chapter four verse 14, for if they which are of the lobby ears faith is made void and the promise made of none effect. No effect. So he says there in now in verse 16, look in verse 16 we’ll close with this verse. Therefore it is of faith that that it might be by what? Grace. For by grace are you saved through faith, not of the law, not of works.
He says, now for this reason, that it might be by grace to the end, the promise might be sure that’s your eternal security, sure to all the seed. So when you trusted Christ’s Savior, God said He would put His righteousness to your account and you go to heaven on what He did for you. And you don’t earn it, you don’t work, you don’t deserve it. Grace. So that’s just some sound fair. Okay, so most people believe that you ought to deserve going to heaven and some people deserve it more than others.
True, they think, you know, the people that are really bad, they ought to go to hell and the people that are really good ought to go to heaven. And that’s what they believe Because it just makes sense because they’re good and they’re bad. And not everybody’s the same. But in God’s eyes, all have sinned and all have come short of God’s perfection. So He made salvation free to all. And His righteousness is unto all, but it’s only upon them that I believe.
And that’s the end of the story. Because once you believe it, you have eternal life. Alright, the book of Philippians, turn to the book of Philippians, one of these days we’re going to finish the book of Philippians. In the book of Philippians in chapter 3, Philippians chapter 3, there’s something that’s mentioned here and I just want to jump down to verse 8. He says, ye doubtless and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and do count them but done that I may win Christ.
Now winning Christ is though that’s the prize that we’re all looking to win to know more and more about Christ. But he explains I believe what he’s talking about. Now in that verse nine when he says, and be found in him not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness, which is of God by faith. That verse, yes, I want to be found in Christ, and that’s great that I have this righteousness of God given to me as a free gift.
But then he makes this statement in the very next verse, verse 10, that I may know him. And when he’s talking about knowing him, he’s like, this is the prize that I’m working for. After I’ve trusted Christ as my Savior, I know I have eternal life. I want this more than anything else that I may know Him. I want to have the power of His resurrection, fellowship of His suffering, and make conformable unto His death. That’s like when you read down there in verse 14, I press toward the mark for the prize of the High Colom of God in Christ Jesus is though whatever I want in life, what I want to attain, that which I strive for, I want to apprehend is I want no more about the Lord.
I want to know the power of God in my life while I live. And because he ain’t in heaven yet, and so as you go through life you would want that more than anything else in life. It’s not like, yes I’m going to get to heaven God’s going to give me a reward. But this could be a prize that you have now over the love of the things that are in the world. But anyway, let me show you this.
He just mentioned that he has no confidence in the flesh, last part of verse 3, for we are the circumcision Jews, which worship God in the spirit. And rejoice in Christ Jesus. And this little part of the verse is good down the line. No confidence in the flesh. Referred to life, how little power we have. What Shattered we have. Because of the flesh. We’re so limited to underline. No confidence in the flesh. You and I, we’re learning as weThumbnailImage, how little power we653 we have.
What little knowledge we have. Because of the flesh. We’re so limited. We’re warped in our judgment. We’re warped in our love. We’re warped in everything that we have because there’s an element of error and error. and everything that we say and do because of the whole sinful nature. So therefore we’re limited. So he says, you don’t put confidence in the flesh. Now you don’t trust the flesh to save you by any of your works that you may do. Then after you trust Christ as your savior, God wants you to let the new man that lives inside of you, that new birth, he wants you to learn spiritual things so you can do spiritual things, things for the Lord.
So there’s a whole wealth of knowledge, the Bible, which we learn that the world cannot have because they have to be born into God’s family. So hold your place right here and look in 1 Corinthians in chapter 2. 1 Corinthians chapter 2. Now we often make this statement, but I want you to see what God has done for us and you’ll notice there in verse 9. 1 Corinthians chapter 2 and verse 9. But as it is written, what does that mean?
Well, that means it’s recorded in the Old Testament. I have not seen nor ear heard neither had entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for them that love him. Now you think about that a little bit. We’ve never seen or heard all the things God has prepared for us that love him. Now there are some things that we can know, and He says, And he says, secret things belong with unto the Lord, but there’s something God hasdatabase.
So he says in verse 10, but God hath revealed them unto us by his spirit. Now this is the revelation where God has revealed things through his word that if he didn’t do it, we wouldn’t know it. And so he says, for the spirit, searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. This is why you have people who want a deeper knowledge of the Word of God. There’s the Holy Spirit that lives within us and knows that when you’re just young and the Lord you’ve got to have milked, but He knows what you need.
And so there is the desire of God for you to go deeper. God wants you to have a great burning desire to know more, to do more, to have more, to understand more. Because none of us are ever really satisfied in this life every day with all that we have. We always want more. You want more money. You want more happiness, more blessings, more good times. You want better health. It’s always an increase. You want something more. Most people are never truly satisfied with whatever they have because that’s the flesh.
we’re always wanting. But in the spiritual realm, there is also this desire that the Holy Spirit gives to you when you trust His Christ as Savior. Those are godly desires and they can be satisfied with the word of God and your obedience to Him. Now look what He says in verse 11, for what man, knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man, which is any. Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
In other words, I really don’t understand everything about Warren. I don’t want to. But if I had his Spirit come inside of me and mine inside of him, then I can know about him and he can know about me. Now God says it’s the same way with him. What if I could have God’s Spirit dwelling me? Then the Holy Spirit then could teach me things about God that without the Holy Spirit I could not know. That’s what he’s talking about.
So he says here in verse 12, now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God. That’s the illumination. See God gave his word by revelation. He revealed it. And then he gave you the Holy Spirit to illuminate it. So you can see it. You can understand it. Otherwise you’ve got a book and you can read it and it’s just like reading the history book or geography book and people don’twhile get it.
Think of how many people are still trying to earn their way to heaven by their good works and they don’t see salvation is free. And they don’t get it. And anybody who doesn’t believe in eternal security doesn’t get it. They think you can be saved the day and lost tomorrow and all that and no, no, no, no. That’s not what the book said. They can’t see that. But now notice. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the spirit, which is of God.
Now get this. That we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. So whenever you read verse 9, I have not seen ear, have not heard, neither has entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for them. 11, but God hath revealed them unto us by his spirit. So the spirit living within you wants to teach you more than you’ve ever seen or heard because it’s been revealed through his word. And so he makes his statement in the last part of verse 12 that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Now get this, which things also we speak, not in the word which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teaches. Now the Holy Spirit lives within you. Remember Jesus in the book of John told his disciples, he said, I pray the Father that He will send Byzanthes, the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, that He may not only be with you but in you and He will teach you and bring things to your remembrance whatsoever I’ve said. Now He’s mainly yes talking to His disciples, but But the truth ofaepernick matter is they received the Holy Spirit, we do too.
And the Holy Spirit is to be a great comforter. But when you are disobedient, the Holy Spirit is a great discomforter. We call it sometimes your conscience is bothering you. Make sure, your reason you feel guilty because you probably are. And you have an inferiority complex because you probably have an inferiority complex because you feel inferior. But you see, when you see yourself the way God does and the Holy Spirit lives within you, the Lord wants to teach you the book.
That’s why He says the Holy Spirit is to teach you. So many people never give the Holy Spirit God a chance to teach them. In other words, these are the answers to the problems of life. And so what we do is we wait till we have a problem and then run to the medicine cabinet and try to find just the right medicine to take for that one problem. So what you do is you keep studying and reading all the time so that you’ll know all the medicine that’s in the book, the medicine cabinet.
So whenever you have this problem, well I got that solved. I got that medicine right there. Take two and call me in the morning. And take this, Iberpofen, and you take this one. So everybody here probably has a medicine cabinet. and it ain’t big enough. And so not only is your medicine cabinet full, you probably got them sitting all over the counter and you got something in the other bathroom that got some more in there. Am I telling you the truth or am I lying to you?
Don’t answer it. So what a person does is to study the word of God so that you have the answers to the problem. Should you wait till you have the problem in order to learn the answer? You see, if you go ahead and start studying and getting the answers, so when that problem comes up, well, you know how to handle that problem. So you don’t wait until it’s like this. The world is already shooting arrows and here’s these arrows that come.
They don’t come out at the same time, but they’re coming. And these arrows are, arrows of problems and discouragement and, you know, you name it, problems. They’re on their way. They’ve already been launched, they’ve already left the bow. They’re on their way. Now, if you wait till those arrows arrive to find, one of them is liable just to do you in. And then all of a sudden that one just bothered you a little bit and then another one hit you and that bothered me and then another one hit you and that, and that’s why you say, you know, that’s the last straw.
It’s the last straw that breaks the camel’s back. No, it’s accumulation of straws. One little straw doesn’t bring you down, it’s an accumulation. So these problems come and the next thing you know you’ve got so many problems you don’t know how toStats. So the best thing you do, I need to run, try to find a way out. And so some people use drugs, some people use alcohol, some people use whatever, but they’re running from their problems. I tried to convince the college kids, I said, now you are here to learn how to be problem solvers, how to solve problem.
But you’re not going to be a good problem solver if you can’t solve your own. People expect you to be able to solve your problems. That’s why they’ll come to you for advice. What did you do? Because they believe you may know something they don’t know because you know you helped solve your problems because of the word of God. So they believe you can, whenever you get sick and you got to go to the doctor, do you ever ask anybody else who do you go to for your eye or for your throat or for your heart?
Because can I trust them? Do they know what they’re doing? Did they do a good job? Well, I went in there with my, my right leg bothered me and they cut off theourney. Well, that’s, you know, I don’t know if I want to go to that doctor. So when you’re talking about wisdom, you and I are supposed to be problem solvers. So I told them I did. When we lived inError, affiliated, we ran away and got married. And we came to live withUpdated.
And she was wondering where the water was. Well, it was out there on the back porch, and we had a pump handle. You had to pump it, get it. And then we’ve had also, you know, nice big old well, and you had to drop the bucket into it and get it and bring it out. And so I used to stand on the side, and I used to watch my daddy dig wells, because he was a, he dug wells. And so I looked down over the edge in a great big old round circle, about six to eight feet.
You know, I imagine from the kid’s point of view, and I looked way down in there, and there’s my daddy way down in there. And it’s just plain old dirt, He’s just digging and putting it in the bucket and somebody else is pulling it out and doing that. After a while he got water on his boots and shoes and they say.”,” he’s got water coming in and it’s starting to seep in from the side. So once you get down to a certain level scene then the water table comes in here and starts packing.
Now here comes the water. I say no. I look at every one of the college as a well and they’ve come to the fountain. So us teachers are taking the word of God the the water of the word and we’reRogue puttin’ water into their wells. So that whenever they leave they’ve got a lot of water to help a lot of thirsty people when they leave. See, a lotapache people can’t quench the thirst of other people because they don’t have any water.
Well, if you get a well with a lot of water you can help a lot of people. So the more you know the greater the wealth of knowledge that you have and you can help a person with that problem and that problem and that problem and that problem because you Prosecut that’s deep. And I told the college that I said, I study more now than I’ve ever done in my life. I can’t say, well, I’ve done my study in 40 years ago and I don’t have to do it again.
No, you study, because the more you study, the more you learn and the more you realize you don’t know. And you never get enough. And so you’ve got to always study and keep studying. His hand represents you and me. The wallet represents sin. We all have sin. Now God says that He loves us, but He hates our sin. For us to pay for sin is eternal separation from God in hell. But God loves everyone. Once everyone to go to heaven but to go to heaven you’ve got to be perfect.
See if we went to heaven the way we are right now, well we would do in heaven what we do here. Why? We lie here, we cheat here, adultery here, murder here. We would do all of that up there. Dr. Colhemous right now. the way we are, we would do up there what we do here. And God said, uh-uh, you’re not coming up here unless you’re perfect. I got a perfect place and I’m messing it up. You messed it up down there.
You’re not messing it up up here. You’ve got to be perfect to get there. You say, well, how is that possible? That’s the problem. You have to be perfect. Not good, perfect. No sin can enter in So how you’re gonna getapache there? And all the religions of the world are trying to help you to be good enough that you’ll make it and it’s impossible You can’t change what you are God said that he loves us. Heids our sin We’re guilty Heaven is perfect.
We’re not Therefore we can’t get in God says you cannot earn eternal life Your good works will not make you any better if you as a pile on a thousand good works it won’t take away one bad sin, even a little beady one. Can’t wash it away. How can I be just with God? That’s a question that Job asked. How can a man be just with God just as if he had never sinned? Well, this is only one way.
God sent his son, Jesus Christ, into the world, because we were in a predicament that we could not get out of. We had no hope. So he came into the world. He He has no sin. He’d never done anything wrong. So because He loved us, He was willing to take all of our sins and pay for them. And this payment that He made would be put to our account if we would believe that He died. What varied and rose again for us.
When I was 18 years old, I heard this for the first time. I knew I was a sinner and I could not save myself, but I heard that Christ paid for my sins. He died for me so that I wouldn’t have to pay for my sins. And all I had to do was believe He did it for me and He would put this payment to my account. I go to heaven because He just took all my sins and washed them.
all the way. I have been made pure and holy in the eyes of God, not because of anything that I’ve done, but because of what He did for me. He gave me His righteousness. He took my sins, and when I believe it, He gives me His righteousness. Now if He gave me His righteousness, that would make me as righteous as God.66666666 So now God says, you’re good to go. So when When I die here, my old sinful nature is in my flesh, in my body.
So I’m going to leave it here and it goes back to dust. I get to go to be with the Lord in heaven. I have been made pure and holy. Set apart, sanctified, fit for the master’s use. This is what God does for you. This is why it’s so important for everyone to trust Christ as their Savior. Let’s pray, shall we? Head about nice clothes, no one looking around. If you’re here this morning and you have never trusted Christ as your Savior, would you just talk to the Lord and say something simple like this?
Lord, I don’t understand at all. I got questions. I got doubts. But I believe that when Christ died, I believe He died for me. And right now the best I know how I will trust Jesus Christ to take me to heaven whenever I die. And Vrin, if you will do that, God said He would save you. Save you right now, give you eternal life. And you can know that you’re going to heaven whenever you die. Would you do that?
I’m going to ask in just a moment you to raise your hand, but that’s just to let me know. I want to have prayer for you. And if you’re watching on internet, there’s a little line there just says, yes, I will trust Christ as my Savior. Why don’t you just click that on it? That just lets us know that you trust that Christ is your Savior today. If you’ve already trusted Lord, you don’t need to do so. So with the hidden bond, I just close, is there anyone at all here to say, preach to that made sense to me?
And I want to be certain of going to heaven when I die. And I will accept Jesus Christ as my Savior right now. Would you just slip your hand very quickly and rub it down? Is anyone at all? Anyone at all? Our Father, we do thank you so much for your blessings. Thank for the opportunity of giving us the study of your word. We pray that we’ll take heed to these things and realize that we’re living in a, yes, a world of crisis.
It’s always that way. We may never be able to change that, but Father, we know that what’s coming down the road is something that all believers can look forward to, and that’s the blessed hope. you’re coming again for us. But if we should die in this whole world, we know that we absent from the bodies to be present with you. We don’t have to worry. We don’t have to be afraid. Don’t have to live in fear because we’ve put our trust and our hope in you.
