God will do for you and for me what we cannot do. But God does expect us to do what we can do. When Peter was in the jail and the church meeting was praying, did you know the angel of the Lord opened the gate and made us change to fall off? But God told them, says, put on your sandals. And he could do that. He could walk out of there. That’s something he can do. So you see, you work like it all depends on you.
You pray like it all depends on God so between praying and working Dependent on the Lord and doing what God says to do you’d be surprised what God is going to do in your life That is so important look in mark chapter 14 all the way back to the book of mark chapter 14 you got Matthew mark Luke and John Mark chapter 14 This coming Sunday, you will have communion service. Remember, there is a communion service that Jesus had right before He was taken and crucified.
And so in Mark chapter 14, verse 22, it makes a statement, and as they did eat, Jesus took bread and blessed and break it and gave to them and says, take, take. This is something that they can do. This is talking about your communion with the Lord. Isn’t it wonderful that God wants us to fellowship with Him? Did you know He wants you to fellowship with Him more than your desire to fellowship with Him? wants you to know Him greater than the desire you have to want to know Him.
Have you ever been so concerned about somebody else? There isn’t anybody that you’ve ever been concerned about greater than what God is concerned about. There isn’t anyone you have ever loved more than what God loves them. You can’t want the best for your children or your grandkids greater than what God wants. It’s difficult to understand all this, I know. But look what he says there in verse 22, Take, Eat, This is My Body. And He took the cup and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and they, you ought to the line the word all.
They all drank it. They all did. But there was a problem here. They all drank it. Do they really understand what they were doing when he says, take, this is my body. This is my blood. I don’t think they had a clue in understanding. Because the Bible says they didn’t understand half what was going on. But they say they did. They even wanted to rule. What on the right? What on the left? He says, are you willing to be baptized with the baptism that I’m going to be baptized with?
Sure. He said, right. You will. But they didn’t understand what they were saying. But here in verse 24, and He said unto them, This is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many. Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God. This was going to be His last one. Until the kingdom is set up. That’s what he said.
And so in verse 26, and when they had sung a hymn, I would like to believe Jesus also sung. It says, and when they sung a hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives. So I guess all of them went out. They all sang. They sung a hymn. And in verse 24, and Jesus said unto them, Yotas underline these two. All ye, all ye shall be offended. In the words, how would you like to go to Bible college for three years and the president of the college says everybody’s gonna fail your exam?
Hey, we’ve studied we’ve been with you. We’ve been taking notes. We memorize all the verses I mean we can’t we can’t wait to take our final exam He says you’re all going to be offended. You’re all going to fail your final exam But did he give up on them? No You know why Jesus Didn’t give up on him. He didn’t have anybody to replace him. There is no other way. God uses imperfect people. God uses us to accomplish His will.
See, you got hope. God can use you. But look what He says here in verse 27, And Jesus said to them, all ye shall be offended because of me this night, For it is written, I will smite the shepherd and the sheep shall be scattered. But after that I am risen, I will go before you in the Galilee. But Peter said unto him, although all shall be offended, yet will not I. Boy, isn’t it wonderful to have at least one who really meant what he said.
All the rest of my priests, but not me, not me. Have you ever thought, early highly of yourself, make promises and pledges, and then you have to eat your words? Don’t it taste terrible? You ever ate crow, but they were offended. They were offended. Why? Because he told them something. Later on, they all forsook him. But look what he says here. In verse 31, He spayed the more vehemently, if I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise.
Likewise also said they what? They all. They all. Did they have a responsibility? Now think about this. They just celebrated communion. They just had a communion service. How would we like on Sunday morning, we have a communion service and everybody’s thinking about what Christ did for them and then you don’t even make it home before you blew it. You get mad and angry and bitter and you’re ready to kill somebody all because they pulled out in front of you.
It don’t take long to mess up. You can be just as sweet with your honey and everything is just fine. And buddy, it don’t take that long before you can be at each other’s throat. I mean, nobody like that in here. I’m talking about it everywhere else. But here. Likewise, they said they’re all but that’s because there’s responsibility. You’ve got choices to make and sometimes we don’t make the right choices. In the book of Acts in chapter 28, we won’t have to turn there, but there’s a thing about He says, take courage.
Take courage. Everybody had to unload the boat, and we’ve already gone through the book of Acts, and He says, don’t worry about anything. Just take courage. Let me show you these verses because y’all know them so well, but it’s always good to read read them again. Go back there to the book of Joshua chapter 1. Joshua chapter 1, Joshua chapter 1 is a very, very powerful verse because it talks about taking courage, taking courage.
You see, that’s something you have to do. This is something that we can decide upon. We, we upon. We wish somebody would always deliver us from our devastating dilemma. Sometimes God is not going to deliver you. It’s just not going to happen. He’s going to let you fall flat on your face. He’s going to let you be humiliated. He’s going to just drain you and let you have nothing so that you’ll learn that all you need is him. And he has to work on you to get you to that place where you really believe it.
So if God has to take away everything that you have, would you turn on them, get mad at God, get better with God? Here he makes a statement in the book of Joshua, after one. He says in verse 5, there shall not any man be able to stand before the all the days of thy life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee, I will not fail thee nor forsake thee. This is almost like reading a book of Ephesians about God has given to us all the armor that we need.
Take the sword and take the shield of faith and feet shod with the preparation, we’re going into battle. He’s going into battle. He’s got to go take the walls of Jericho. Impossible. But God delights in doing the impossible. All He needs is a man. He just needs a man that believes him. So He says in verse 8, be strong. That’s That’s a choice and good courage. That’s a choice You can take fear if you want to You could be a nervous wreck if you want to You see God not gonna stop you from worrying yourself sick God will let you or yourself say He’ll let you get physically sick if you choose to Or you can have peace of mind, but that’s a choice You can have happiness, but that’s a choice.
So all these things are choices that we make. In verse 7, he said, only be thou strong, very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do. In other words, this thing God wants you to do, it’s not always the easiest thing. Some things are greatly challenging, but God will give you all the strength and the grace you need to do, whatever it is God wants you to do. that’s what I like about it. And then he says in verse eight, this book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night.
You know what meditate is, really? You ever seen a cow chew the cud? See a lot of times they’re just eating, eating, eating, eating, eating, eating, eating, eating, eating, eating, eating, eating, eating, eating, and then they go and lay down, then they vomit it back up and then chew it. You get it again and keep chewing it When you hear the word of God you may not get it all But then meditate means you you chew the cud What that’s good and You get all the flavor out of it you can get it’s like reading a verse and you don’t get it So you read it again, and you’re reading in context and then you chew it some more And sometimes it’s like a piece of gristle.
So you go over here to this verse and get you a knife. You go over here to this verse and get you a fork. Then you come back and you rightly divide. And then you, oh, that’s good. Oh, that’s good. Taste and see that the Word of God is good. Sweeter than honey in the honeycomb. That’s the Word of God. So he says here in verse nine, Have not I commanded thee? See be strong as a command be of good courage You see if you don’t have courage then you become like a coward you’re afraid Your whole back Did you know it’s a command to be of good courage?
And there’s a lot of times people they become discouraged They let the things of the world the things they see so disheartened them that they don’t want to go on They don’t don’t want to live for the Lord take my yoke upon you daily Follow me Learn of me and you’d be surprised what God will do and in the last part of that verse says in verse 9 for the Lord thy God is with thee whether so ever thou goest sound.
Pretty good to me. Don’t it sound good to you? Look there in the book of Luke chapter 8. Turn over there to the book of Luke in chapter 8. Luke chapter 8 and verse Verse 18, chapter 8 verse 18. He’s in verse 18, take heed, therefore how ye hear. Take heed how you hear. For whosoever hath to him shall be given. And whosoever hath not from him shall be taken away even that which he seemeth to have. There’s a lot of things that people seem to have.
It’s not only a matter of take heed how you hear, but another scripture talks about take heed. what you hear. Take heed what you hear. And a lot of times you don’t use good judgment on what you’re listening to. I bet he was mentioned in today about, she saw this picture and everybody was standing there. These little girls were all standing in a row. But there was one little girl over there hanging on the bar upside down. And she sent it to somebody and it says, that one marches to a different drummer.
You see, the world has a drum beat and everybody is in step with the world. But you are supposed to be listening to a different drummer. Somebody that’s got a different beat. Kind of like a mom that was watching the parade go by and all these military guys come by and she says, look at that. My little Johnny. Look at it. Everybody’s out of step, but Johnny.
But some people are listening to a different drummer and therefore they can’t hear the beat of the one you’re listening to. If you decide I am going to follow the Lord and I want to hear the drum beat that he has and I’m going to follow him and get in step. And the world doesn’t hear that drum beat. You may look a little odd because you’re not in step with the world. You’re not wise like the world. You’re not prudent like the world.
You’re not drunk like the world. You’re different. I have always, always wanted to be different. Somebody says, you are. I want to be different. I want to march to a different drummer. I want something else that leads me and guides me. So you got to learn to listenGaza what God says. And if you’ll listen to what God says, it’ll bless you even more. While you’re here in the book of Luke, just turn back to you left to chapter, chapter six.
Chapter six and look in verse 38, take, take, take, take, take, take. Take always gonna take the right things. But the Lord also says in this one word, give, learn to give. Give of your time, give of your talents, give of your treasure, give your life. You see, you’ve got to take the right things and give yourself to the Lord and the man that will give himself to the Lord. God God says He will save His life. But the man that takes His life away from Christ will lose His life.
It’s a choice. This day is going to pass. We’re going to stand before the Lord. God is going to reward you for the choices you made. You can be wise in the eyes of God, march to a different drummer, or you can do what everybody of the world. Do your own thing. Go your own way. But you see, the devil has got a drumbeat. And more people are following his drumbeat. There’s few that serve the Lord, that no Christ.
So here in the book of Luke chapter 6 verse 38, give and it shall be given unto you. Good measure, pressure, pressed down, shaken together, running over shall men give unto your bosom. For with the same measure that you meet with all it shall be measured to you again. In other words, we used to be on the farm and we used to pick butter beans and we’d sit on the back porch and for hours and hours we would shell butter beans.
a shell butter beans, shell peas. And you see that big old basket and you got to feel that thing and you shell and two or four people shelling. Trying to fill that thing for, well, it’s kind of like you get it up there. I saying, it’s four just a minute. More than one. Show some more than one. Trang beam. We did all that kind of stuff because we’ll not snap them off and snap them and, we, well name my aunt.
She gets some of her, she my mama used to can. And I’m talking about they’d be jars all over the place. And they’d have the lids and they’d have to do all this. A pressure cooker. I go in the house and I think it’s going to explode. I’ve heard about him exploding. But there’s people that used to do all these things. But see, you can understand it better before we got so in this technological age, shaken, pressed down. that’s a more running over.
God all it can hold. This is what God wants to do with your life. But see, to fill it, he wants to get all the other stuff out of the way. So as you’re living your life, they’re saying God wants you to get rid of. Why? Because there’s things he wants to fill in your life. And when it’s all over with, you’re going to like what God has for you. Because then your life becomes full. It’s been pressed down.
It’s been heaped together, running over. You over here have used to seeing us up. My cup is full and running over. My cup is full and running over. My basket is full and running over. My life is full and running over. I had something that was given to me one day, and I kind of stapled it to this, and I thought it was pretty good. A lady wrote this, Claudia, she said, I asked God to take away my pride, and God says no.
He said it was not for him to take away, but for me to give up. I asked God to make my handicapped child whole and God says no. He said her spirit is whole, her body is only temporary. I asked God to grant me patience and God says no. He says patience is a by-product of tribulation. It is granted. It isn’t granted. It is earned. I asked God to give me happiness and God says no. He said, He gives blessings.
Happiness is up to me. I asked God to spare me pain. And God says, no. He said, suffering draws you apart from the worldly cares and brings you closer to me. I asked God to make my spirit grow. God says, no. He said, I must grow on my own, but He will prune me to make me fruitful. I asked God if He loved me. And God said yes. He gave His only Son who died for me. And I will be in heaven someday because I believe.
I asked God to help me love others as much as He loved me. And God said, finally, you have the idea. No, I like that. Finally, get. You see, there’s things that we are responsible to take advantage of. Life is something to take advantage of. It’s not something to waste. It’s something to use. Life is not forever here. It’s temporary. Make the wisest decisions, the wisest choices you possibly can. This hand represents you and me. The wall represents sin.
We all have sin upon us. God loves us. Now He hates our sin, but He loves us. And He says for us to pay for sin is eternal separation from God in hell. The wages of sin is death. But God loves us and wants us to go to heaven and to go to heaven. We have to be perfect because righteous is God and no one qualifies. No one’s perfect. No one’s righteous. No one is good enough to go to heaven.
So God says, you cannot become perfect by your good works, because all of our works, or as filthy rags, God said, it’s not of works of righteousness which we have done. If a man could go to heaven because he earned it and could earn it, that’s the way it ought B. But no man can earn it. That’s why it can’t be that way, or nobody gets to go to heaven. This hand represents Jesus Christ. He’s the Lord God in the flesh.
He came into the world because He loves us. He hates our sin because our sin separates us from Him. So Jesus Christ who had no sin didn’t have to die. He took all the sin of all the world, paid for it on the cross, came back from the dead and said that if we would believe, he did it for us. He would put this payment to our account and we get to go to heaven on what He did. It’s not what we do.
Eternal life is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast. And if you’re watching by internet, let me just show you this. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, The whosoever, anybody, open imitation of a whosoever, believe it. All you have to do is believe it, and the payment is transferred. This payment that he made is put to your account as though you did it. And he gives to you as a free gift everlasting life, and you can know that you’re going to heaven whenever you die.
Let’s pray, show him. Every head bow and every eye closed. No one looking around. If you’re here tonight, you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior. Would you do that? Would you do it right now? Just stop and think for a moment. God knows who you are. He knows where you are. He knows what you’ve done. He knows what you’re going to do. And He loves you. He’s sinned his son 2000 years ago, before you ever born and He died for you.
He’s already paid for everything you will ever do in your whole life. Would you believe he did it for you? God said if you’ll believe he did it for you, he would give you as a free gift to eternal life. And you get to go to heaven on what Christ did. You don’t earn it, you don’t work for it. You’ll never be good enough. That’s why the Bible says for by grace, are you saved through faith in that, not of yourselves.
It is the gift of God not of works lest any man should boast. I pray you will trust Christ as your Savior. But heads bowed nice and close and no one looking around. If you have never trusted Christ as your Savior and you hear tonight and you say that made sense to me and I will trust the Lord and preach our life for you to pray for me. We’ll just slip your hand up very quickly and put a right back down and we’ll let it off.
If you’ve trusted Christ as your Savior, yes, your God’s child. But boy, I tell you, living for the Lord can sometimes be a difficult thing for us. So much we don’t understand. And then sometimes the things that we do understand, we forget. But we always depend upon the Holy Spirit to quicken our minds and help us to remember. Father, I thank You so much for all You’ve done for us. We’re thankful for the things that we’re able to share from Your Word tonight.
I pray You’ll be a blessed, 8th Person here. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
