We pray that you will enjoy our commitment to the clear gospel of Jesus Christ, and that today’s concluding message of this teaching will be a blessing to you and your family.
Now take your Bible and look there in the book of Matthew 10. Matthew and chapter 10. In Matthew 10, he had told him to go out, preach the gospel, heal the sick, all these wonderful things that they were able to do. See there in verse 8, heal the sick, cleanse the leper, raise the dead, cast out devils freely you have received freely give.” Sounds pretty good. So this is what they were to do. And the reason is because they’re in chapter 9 and verse 36, 7 and 8, he says, and he looked upon the multitude and he was moved with compassion because they were like sheep, having no shepherd.
So he says, “‘Pray ye the Lord of the harvest that he will come and send forth and he sends them. And so they went. He says, now, wherever you go, whatever you do. So he tells them that whatever city, whatever house, didn’t really matter. If they receive you, it’s because they receive your message. You go and you have a message. And to believe the message is to believe and to receive the person with the message. And if they received the message from the person who gave them the message, they were not really receiving the person who brought the message as it is they were receiving the one that sent them.
And if they received the one that sent them, it was because they were receiving the one that sent him. So Christ says, He that receiveth me, receiveth Him that sent me. So whenever you go and you give the gospel a person who receives the gospel, receives the message, receives Him. And when you understand it, it can help you because there’s scriptures that talked about this and helps us to understand it just a little bit better. So here in chapter 10, look there in verse 40, verse 40, where it says, he that receiveth, you receiveth me.
And he talks about when he, you receive him, it’s because you’re receiving the message that he brought to you. You see, when he makes the statement in the Gospel of John in chapter 1, verse 12, but as many as received Him to them gave He eternal life, sons of God, born of God, who those who received Him. So when He’s talking about here receiving Him, this is what He means. It’s just not, you knocked at somebody’s door, oh come on in, have a cup of coffee.
They received them. No, no, no. He’s talking about receiving the message that they brought. And if they receive and believe the message because they believed on Him. But what about those who would not believe the message, did not believe the messenger, then they are rejecting the one who brought the message and the one that sent Him. So you notice here in verse 40, he that receiveth, you receiveth me and hear that receiveth, me receiveth him that sent me. So there is a message to be delivered.
And you and I are to preach the message. We don’t determine the outcome of the message. I remember one time when I went up there with the sound of truth. No, spokesman years ago. And it had about 400 that trusted the Lord out of probably 450, 500 that was in the juvenile detention center. That was one of the best meetings that I think I’ve ever recall. The group got up there and they sung and they did a great job and they had those kids in the palm of their hands.
I gave the gospel and it was just incredible. And then I’ve been in other places and you just get so thrilled. I can’t believe it. But I believe the most that I’ve ever seen in one place was when I was over in India a couple years ago. And then that time that I was with Dr. Stanford in Egypt, never had it like that in Israel. And I never had it like that in other parts of the United States. But there’s this time when it seemed like a harvest, and it sometimes seemed like droughts.
You’re not responsible for what people do with the message. But you understand that there’s something about the message that we have that is so powerful. But there’s people that do not want to hear it and they will not believe it. Try not to take so much personally. Otherwise, you’ll get your feelings hurt, say, well, I’m not going to do that again. Or I’m not going to share it at all because, well, you feel rejection. if they reject the message, but try your best to always present it in such a way that it’s you, they’re rejecting, and the way you’re doing it, instead of just that message itself.
Trust the gospel. Trust the gospel to do what it’s supposed to do. And I think God will bless you because of it. So here in this verse talks about receiving Him and whenever you receive Him, you receive Him, that’s sent Him. This is also mentioned over there in the Gospel of John in chapter 6 and so on. Take your Bible and also turn to John chapter 12. John chapter 12, the Gospel of John in chapter 12. John chapter 12 and look there in verse 48.
John chapter 12 and verse 48. In verse 48 he says this, he that rejected me and receive if not my words, hath one that judgeeth him the word that I have spoken the same shall judge him in the last day. when you reject Him, it means you did not receive my word. It’s like when Christ sent His people out and He tells the story because there was going to be a, you know, a big banquet. And invite everybody to come and everybody had excuses.
They wouldn’t listen to the word and they didn’t come. Then He says, go out into the highways and the hedges and find the poor the man, the whole, bring them in. Anybody. And as always people who have a reason for nut, doing it. We can’t be responsible for people rejecting Christ. But at least our responsibility is to get the gospel to them. So this is what makes the radio, the internet, and everything that we have and the ministries we have here on the campus here.
So important. Don’t take it for granted because it wouldn’t take that much for all to stop. Just that much and it could all stop. We wonder sometimes Dr. Polson and I and Steve, we get together, we find out how much do we have in there for the radio ministry. Can we make it another month? Can we make it another month? it looks like it’s just so close we’re not going to be able to keep the radio ministry going. And so it’s amazing that somebody will send a little money and somebody will send some and let’s see you know what we made it another month and then we made it another month.
And so after four and a half years we’re still right there. But you never know it’s like we got an extra month and then we can breathe a little bit. And some like and see it’s not not because we want money, it’s because we know there’s people that can be reached because of it and it’s such a powerful tool, powerful tool. So here in John when he makes this statement, he that rejected me and receive of not my words.
This is why it’s so important. See in verse 47, if any men hear my words and believe not. I judge him not and I came not to judge the world, but to save the world, he that rejects me, the words will judge him in the last day. Remember the world’s already condemned. He came for the world to be saved because that’s what he wants. Look in John chapter 13, the Gospel of John chapter 13, and look there in verse 20.
In verse 20 it says, very, very, I say unto you, he that receiveth, whom so ever I send receiveth me.” So when you’re talking about receiving them, it means that you’re listening and you’re believing what the person has because they have my word, my message. So he says, he that receiveth, whom so ever I send receiveth me. And he that receiveth me, receiveth Him that sent me.” You may get a little confused, but that’s all right. Just understand this.
There’s somebody in heaven that sent you and sent me into the world. The Christ says, as the Father hath sent me, even so send I you. Father sent Him, I sent you. So we’re going because we’ve been sent. We’re missionaries. Every one of us is a child of God. We’re missionaries. Some are local missionaries, some are country missionaries, some are foreign missionaries, but we’re all missionaries and you’re either a missionary or a mess. You either ought to be reaching somebody or somebody ought to be reaching you.
Isn’t that simple? You ought to be reaching someone or somebody needs to reach you because if you’re not reaching somebody you need be reached. I’ll write that down in the book. Now look in verse 19, the verse right before. Now I tell you before it come that when it has come to pass, you may believe that I am here. I want you to believe that I am who I claim to be. Then afterwards he sent them into the world and preached this wonderful gospel so that we could have eternal life.
Now take your Bible and turn to John chapter 3, the gospel of John in chapter 3. And notice there in John chapter 3 verse 32. Verse 32 he says, and what he hath seen and heard that he testifyeth, and no man receiveeth his testimony. He that hath received his testimony have set to his seal that God is true. You You see, you’re going in to the world and you talk to people and you’re telling them the testimony of Jesus Christ.
You’re testifying who He claimed to be, what He claimed to do, and what He will do if you’ll trust Him as Savior. You see, we’re just like a witness telling somebody, look, this is what I believe to be true. And here’s why I believe it’s true. You are testifying, therefore he says, be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of the Lord. It means don’t be ashamed of the gospel because it’s the gospel that is the testimony of God.
It tells you who God is. It tells you what God did. It tells you how he loves. It tells you how he hates and why. And so when you understand it, it can help you just a little bit better. Now you’ll notice there in John chapter 1 and verse 12, you know what a good thing to do. I don’t know if many people can do this. Pretend that every person in the world was Jesus. Pretend every person in the world was Jesus but lost.
That isn’t just a twist. What would you do to reach Him? Let’s pretend He died on the cross so that everybody can be saved. Now pretend that every person in the world is Jesus. What would you do to reach Him? What would you do to get the gospel to Him? If he was Jesus, and he was lost. But he died for everyone else. So you picture in your mind that every person out there is Jesus and I want to get him, and I want to get him, and I want to get him.
And in the back of your mind it’s always because, look what he did for me. Why am I trying to reach that person? Because Jesus died for that person. Jesus loves that person. And he wants me to do whatever it takes. There shouldn’t be any price that I should not be willing to pay. I’ll be honest with you, sometimes I’m, I can put in some long date and I get tired. And I’m not getting any younger, I realize that.
Sometimes I am just so tired, I can hardly physically go. And then video go and stop and get something neat. And my mind is not on what I’m doing. I’m just trying to rest and catch up on what I’m doing. Sometimes I just don’t want to be bothered with anybody. I don’t want to talk to anybody. Let me just eat or let me just read something that I’m thinking about here. Now, I bet it should be looking around and see who I can talk to.
Who can I give a track to? Yankee. They’re not doing anything over there. Not now. You say you shouldn’t be like that. I know. I wished I was more dynamic, more exciting, more persuasive, more and more and more. Whatever it takes, because I realize one of these days, all my opportunities are going to be gone. And I’ll think what I could have done, and I dragged my feet, and I didn’t do all that I could have done. How in the world the Apostle Paul could say, I am free from the blood of all men.
I have not shunned to declare all the counsel of God. How can he say those things? He really had to be on the ball. But then I think to myself, I have probably already lived 10 years. 10 years longer than Paul lived. He wasn’t as old. You know how his life ended? He became the president. No. Had his head chopped off. And yet he was a success, but in the eyes of the world, no, he was not a success.
But here in verse 12, he said, but as many as received him. So receiving him, this is what it means. You received the message, the testimony, about him. That’s why you were born of God. You weren’t born of God because you just received Christ. What do you mean by receiving Christ? What does it mean? It means I receive him as the payment for my sin. I believe he died on the cross. He paid for my sins. I’m trusting him to take me to heaven when I die.
And that’s why you become a child of God. Turn in your Bible to the book of Matthew. Matthew chapter 25. I just want to share this verse with you. A couple verses here. In verse 35, in verse 35 of Matthew chapter 25, he says, for I was hungry and you gave me meat. I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a strain and you took me and naked and you clothed me and I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came unto me. He says, all these things. He says, what do you mean by all of this? I kind of think there’s a possibility that when somebody was hungry, you might even gave them some food so that you can give them the gospel. Remember behind all of what we do is not just the good works, there’s a reason. So in order to reach the people that God wants us to reach, when people are hungry, we try to feed them so that we can give them the gospel.
And when he says, I was thirsty, you gave him some living water. See, there’s something that we have that we can give. When he says, I was a stranger. You took him in. Why? Because for the gospel’s sake. Because you see, you wanted that person that was hungry to have more than just food you wanted him to receive Christ. You wanted that person that was thirsty to have more than just water you wanted them to receive Christ. And I was a stranger and you took him in but you wanted more you wanted them to receive Christ.
But you did these things so that you could get the message to the person. And this is what most people don’t seem to understand. Well, if somebody asks me, I’ll tell them, but what about the person that doesn’t have anything? The person that was naked and you closed them because you wanted him to receive Christ. And I was sick and you visited me. You went to the hospital, you went to a home to visit somebody because they need Christ.
It’s all these problems that people have or nothing more than opportunities for you and I to minister. And so we have something more to give, better to give than anybody in the whole world. No one has what we, God’s children, have to offer. And he says, when you did that for me, you’ll reach that person for me. And when you did it for me, it’s why you did what you did. And then he says, and I was sick of your visit to me.
I was in prison. Oh, we know Jesus was not in prison, but are there people in prison? Jesus was never sick, but was there people that were sick? I think so. So therefore, we want to, even if we had to go to the prison to reach somebody, I’ve been in the prisons. I preached in jails. I preached in rescue missions. But everywhere we go, for one main reason, I was there. I had wanted them to receive something. I wanted them to receive Christ.
Receiving Christ simply means I believe He died for me and I am accepting Him as my Savior. And so we are sent and we go and we do this because there’s something inside of us that says, this is their greatest need. And I want to help meet man’s greatest need. I had a lady that asked me today. She says, I want to know if you would help in getting in a Bible study started over there in St. Peter Care Water somewhere.
Says that I believe I can get people to come together for a one hour a week a lunch. You kind of like what’s been done downtown at the Bible study. But they need somebody that’s over in that area that can do a one-hour Bible study, but it needs to be somebody that lives in that area over there in that area that really knows the Lord and really strong in the gospel and can conduct a Bible study while they come and bring their lunch and they eat while you have a Bible study with them.
But wouldn’t it be good? We’ve got a lot of people in this ministry that might be ready to step out and have a ministry, to do something where they can win them and teach them to train them. You never know who it might be. And that God may just kind of tap you on the shoulder and says, I was in them. I’ll sack lunch, Bible study. I sent you and you went there for me. And you got people to trust the Lord.
I love to have people that starts a Spanish work. Wouldn’t it be neat? I think it’d be awesome. I want somebody to do sign language. I want somebody to have a ministry to the, what they call it, educably slow. Do you name it? Have a ministry for it. For everybody and every group you can think of so that we’re a church with a heart. Wouldn’t you like us to be a church with a heart? A heart for everybody. I think it would be so dynamic.
But one person can’t do it all and we’ve got some people that are doing as much as they can. And if I don’t stop them, they’ll work themselves to death. There’s several of them I’ve had to say, look, stop. Go home. Go home. Not many of them, but a couple of them I’ve had to do. You put it enough, I go home, go home. And so I think it’s neat. But when I was in prison, he says, but you came unto me.
See, it wasn’t. Christ died for all those people. And so it’s like, that’s, that’s the Lord in there and I’m going in there to reach that person Christ died for. And so when they trust Christ as their Savior, the Lord involves that person. So there’s people in all of these places. They’re everywhere. And somebody has to reach them. And that’s the responsibility that God’s given to us. One way or the other, so one is still the best thing in all the world.
Look up here. This hand representing you and me, the wall represents sin. We all have sin on us. The Lord says that He loves us. He hates our sin, but He loves us. But because we’ve committed the sin, we have to pay for it. And everybody in the world is all in the same boat. nobody’s any better than anyone else. And God’s eyes all have sinned and all have come short of God’s glory and everybody is already condemned. That’s why Christ didn’t come to condemn the world.
Why? Because they’re already condemned. He came so that the world could be saved, the whole world. So He died for the sins of the whole world. And so to go to heaven we have to be perfect and we’re not, we’ve all come short of God’s perfection and by our work we can never save ourselves. So Christ, God’s Son, came into the world, took our sins, paid to fall them on the cross, came back from the dead, and says if we would believe that He did this for us, He would give us as a free gift of our lasting life.
We go to heaven on what Christ did for us. Let’s pray, shall we? With every head bound, every act closed, and no one looking around, I pray that whether you’re in the auditorium or watching by internet, you have trusted Christ as your Savior. And just like the letter that we read just a moment ago, somebody watching understands and trusts the Lord. And God can save them whether they’re in California or in Wisconsin or Tennessee or who knows where. God can save anybody anywhere.
Anywhere the gospel is presented and they can hear it and understand it. Pray for this ministry. It’s a very unusual ministry because of our love and commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ. And if you’re here tonight and you have never trusted the Lord, you’ve heard about it maybe, but you never trust the Lord. Would you trust him right now? Say Lord I don’t understand it all while I I believe Christ died, that He paid for my sins, and I’m going to trust Him.
It’s my only hope of going to heaven. For in God’s head, if you’d do that, He’d save you. Where’d you trust Him? The head by now is closed. Anyone at all say, yes, pray for me. I will trust Christ as my Savior. And I’d like for you to know it. I’d like for you to pray for me. Anyone at all before we close. If you have trusted Christ as your Savior, your God’s child. And remember, when you go, you want people to receive the message.
I’ve received the message they’re receiving Christ, and then they’re receiving the one that sent Him. Father, we thank You so much for this time together. Bless each one. And Father, give each person here the strength and the grace that they need. And they’ll be put in some long hours today, and many are tired and weary. But Lord, tomorrow’s a new day. Give us the rest we need tonight, and help us to do all that we can, in every way that we can, for as long as we can, for your honor and glory in Christ’s name we pray.
