of the Bible. Turn with me to the book of Hebrews, the book of Hebrews in chapter 10. We may do a little rambling tonight, but that’s okay. Sometimes a little rambling doesn’t hurt a little, you know, at all. It’s just good for you. But Hebrews in chapter 10, and notice there in verse 11, we talked about this last week about the high priest and how that Christ is our high priest. And I like the statement that’s found there in Hebrews chapter 10, but just look very quickly there in verse 21, having an high priest over the house of God.
Now, the house of God is the church. It’s not necessarily the building, but there is a church. All those who believe on Jesus Christ are in the house of God. And And so there’s things that God says like there’s truth that we might know how to behave ourselves in the house of God as a child of God in his church, in his body, how we’re supposed to be. And of course that comes down to the local level so that we have the fulfillment, the manifestation of our walk with God, our faithfulness to him, is to be done through the local church.
outside of a local church is very difficult for you to prove your faith on this, or that you’re under authority of a local church, which every child of God should be. But here in chapter 10 of Hebrews, I want you to look there in verse 11, in verse 11, where it says, in every priest, and here’s those two words, standeth daily, minnesting and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, ————————————————, take away sin. All the sacrifices that they ever made never took away one sin.
All the sacrifices that they made never paid for one sin. It was only to appease an angry God because of the sin and so that God would not take out His anger upon the person it sinned. He took it out upon the animal, an innocent animal. And so the animals and animals received the wrath of God. Anyway, that’s how I perceive it in my mind. But what I want you to see is where he says, and every priest standeth daily, often offering the same sacrifices.
Now look what he says in verse 12. But this man Christ, After he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, what’s the next two words? Set down. Why? The work’s done. The work is done. He’s sat down. It’s finished. Set down. There’s, they stand up daily. He sat down. The work is done. And he only had to make one payment for all the sins of all the world forever. Now turn in your book of Hebrews toawaru 1, look in Hebrews chapter 1.
And look in verse 3. And you’ll notice this again. Word says there in verse 3, it says that God in sundry times and diverse manners, but he can time pass unto the Father’s bother prophet. But it happened these last days spoken unto us by his Son. And then he says there in verse 3, who, being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his person. And upholding all things by the word of his power. When he had, and you’re on the line, these two little words, by himself, by himself, purged our sins, and there’s those two words again.
He sat down. He sat down. The work is done. The work he came to do is done. Now, I want you to take your Bible and turn there to the book of Acts 7, the book of Acts in chapter 7. In Acts chapter 7, a God by the name of Stephen was preaching a pretty strong sermon. He even made a couple of people mad at him. They really didn’t like too much what he had to say. So they responded.
what I want you to see there is there’s something that went wrong. Well I don’t know if it went wrong, not with Stephen. But look what he said, he’s preaching a sermon and he says there as he looks at the people he says in verse 51 he kind of personalize it, holds it in and then like a rifle shot right to the heart and he says ye stiff necked and uncircumcised and heart and ears ye do always resist the Holy Ghost, as your fathers did so do ye.”
Now, if I had been there, I might have asked him, why don’t you tell us what you really mean? And he says, which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? Now don’t he understand that if you would tone it down just a little bit. You might not make these people so mad. It’s like goading them. You know you’re going to make a mad, but I believe that everything he said was right what God wanted him to say. And he probably said it just the way God wanted him to say it.
And so he says, which of the prophets have not your father’s persecuted and they have slain them which showed before the coming of the just one of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers. You have betrayed him, you have murdered him. Now would you like to receive Christ as your Savior? And when they heard him say all of this, they fell on their faces and repented. They didn’t? Well, what would you have done? Well, look what He says.
In verse 54, when they heard these things, they cried, no, they were cut to the heart and they gnashed on Him with their teeth, but He been full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus, and you ought to underlying this word. What’s he doing now? He’s standing. He was sitting while I go, but he’s standing now. I believe that there are probably times when the Lord stands up and he hears his man just laying on.
That’s my boy down here. That’s my boy. I’m proud of my boy down here. He ain’t afraid of no one. And I believe he looks up and he sees Jesus standing. And look what he says, Behold, I see the heavens open and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. And then they really liked that part. And they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears, ran upon him with one accord. wait a minute, wait a minute.
It’s either you get God’s applause or man’s. You can’t have both. If you want the praise of man, you can’t have the praise of God. But I believe that God rejoices in heaven. And he’s kind of like when he told, oh Satan, have you considered my servant Job. And Job might have been standing up there at this time and Satan might have come along and said, hey, I can get that Steven, but you won’t let me get at him.
I just got to rile those people and he’ll turn and he’ll curse you and he’ll change his mind and he’ll recant you can even go as far as taking his life. And he stood the test. And remember, you may not get a lot of opportunities. You don’t know at what point in your life the last testing you went through might be the last one you’ll ever have. The last chance to remain faithful to the Lord. Wouldn’t you hate to blow it?
It’s one thing if you say, I know I’ve got a long time to live, but we don’t know how much time we have. And so he makes the same thing. statement here. In verse 57, and they cried with a loud voice, stopped their ears and ran upon him with one accord, cast him out of the city, stoned him, and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul, a young man. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God and saying, Lord Jesus, received my spirit.
And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice. Lord lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. Now, I believe it’s important to understand that there was a God in heaven who was sitting down, but when he saw his child, he knew what was going to happen. He stood up. Because he’s also our intercessor. He’s the one that watches over us. He is our great high priest. He’s the one that intercedes for us and he never goes to sleep.
He never takes a nap. Aren’t you glad God doesn’t go to sleep on you? Lord, I’m sorry, he’s asleep. Call back in the morning. Take your Bible and turn to the book of Acts in chapter 9. Acts in chapter 9. There’s a statement in the Scriptures and something else happens here. In verse 1 he says, and Saul, remember Saul, you know that young man, and Saul yet breathing out threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord. Went unto the high priest and desiring of him letters to Damascus, to the synagogues that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound under Jerusalem.
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus and suddenly they’re shying round about him a light from heaven. And he fell to the earth and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul saw why persecute his thou mean. And he says, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord says, I am Jesus whom thou persecuted. Now wait a minute, how was he persecuting Jesus? All he was doing is just knocking out a few of his disciples. He was just having a few of them slaughtered, put in jail and persecuted and killed and all that.
That’s not just all he was doing. His goal was that he was doing this because he thought he was doing God a favor. It’s pretty fine. When he was doing what he was doing was against people, it wasn’t against God, or was it? When you and I serve God, when people persecute you, they’re persecuting Him. You’re just in His place. Remember God could have just taken us to heaven when we trusted Him as Savior, but He left us here.
And so while we’re here in this world, we represent Him. It would be like. of all of God’s children just were like little Jesus’s. Because see what we’re doing is in His place, we’re letting Him use our bodies. We gave up our bodies for Him so that Jesus has all these little bodies around and we’re all little Jesus’s living in this world. So whatever they do, they’re doing it to Him. Now if you can understand that, it can help you.
Otherwise, you just liable to take some of those things personally. You can get mad, get even. But it can change the way you think when you see it from this point of view. Now, take your Bible and look there in the book of Matthew 10. Matthew and chapter 10. In Matthew chapter 10, he had told him to… Go out. Priest the gospel. Heal the sick. All these wonderful things that they were able to do. See there in verse 8, heal the sick.
Cleanse the leper. Raise the dead. Cast out devils. Freely you have received. Freely give. Sounds pretty good. So this is what they were to do. And the reason is, is because they’re in chapter 9 and verse 36, 7 and 8. He says, indeed, he looked upon the multitude and he was moved with compassion. because they were like sheep, having no shepherd. So he says, pray ye the Lord of the harvest that he will come and send forth labors into his vineyard.
And he sends them. And so they went. He says, now, wherever you go, whatever you do, so he tells them that whatever city So you go, whatever house, didn’t really matter. If they receive you, it’s because they receive your message. You go and you have a message. And to believe the message is to believe and to receive the person with the message. And if they receive the message from the person who gave them the message, they were not really receiving the person who brought the message as it is they were receiving the one that sent them.
And if they received the one that sent them, it was because they were receiving the one that sent him. So Christ says, he that received with me, received with him that sent me. So whenever you go and you give the gospel a person who receives the gospel, receives the message, receives him. And when you understand it, it can help you because they’re scriptures that talked about this and helps us to understand it just a little bit better. So here in chapter 10, look there in verse 40.
Verse 40, where it says, He that receiveth you, receiveth me. And He talks about when He, you receive Him is because you’re receiving the message that He brought to you. You see, when He makes the statement in the Gospel of John in chapter one, verse 12, But as many as received him, to them gave he eternal life, sons of God, born of God, who those who received him. So when he’s talking about here receiving him, this is what he means.
He’s just not, you knocked at somebody door, oh, come on in, have a cup of coffee. They received him, no, no, no, he’s talking about receiving the message that they brought. And if they receive and believe the message, because they believed on him, but what about those who would not believe the message, did not believe the messenger, then they are rejecting the one who brought the message and the one that sent him? So you notice here in verse 40, he that receiveth, you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me, receive of Him that sent me.
So there is a message to be delivered. And you and I are to preach the message. We don’t determine the outcome of the message. I remember one time when I went up there with the sound of truth, no spokesman years ago. And it had about 400 that trusted the Lord out of probably 450, 500 that was in the juvenile detention center. That was one of the best meetings that I think I’ve ever recall. The group got up there and they sang and they did a great job and they had those kids in the palm of their hands.
I gave the gospel and it was just incredible. And then I’ve been in other places and you just get so thrilled. I can’t believe it. But I believe the most that I’ve ever seen in one place was when I was over in India a couple years ago. And then that time that I was with Dr. Stanford and need you. Never had it like that in Israel. And I’ve never had it like that in other parts of the United States.
But there’s just time when they say, I’ll harvest and sometimes it seems like droughts. You’re not responsible for what people do with the message. But you understand that there’s something about the message that we have that is so powerful. But there’s people that do not want to hear it and they will not believe it. Try not to take so much personally. Otherwise you’ll get your feelings hurt and say, well, I’m not going to do that again. Or I’m not going to share it at all because well you feel rejection.
Remember, if they reject the message but try your best to always present it in such a way that it’s you they’re rejecting and the way you’re doing it instead of just that message yourself. Trust the gospel. Trust the gospel to do what it’s supposed to do. And I think God will bless you because of it. So here in this verse talks about receiving Him. And whenever you receive Him, you receive Him that sent Him. This is also mentioned over there in the Gospel of John in chapter 6 and so on.
Take your Bible and also turn to John chapter 12. John chapter 12. John in chapter 12. John chapter 12 and look there in verse 48. John chapter 12 and verse 48. In verse 48 he says this, he that rejected me and receive if not my words had one that judge with Him, the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge Him in the last day. When you reject Him, it means you did not receive my word. It’s like when Christ sent His people out and He tells the story because there was going to be a, you know, a big banquet.
And invite everybody to come and everybody had excuses. They wouldn’t listen to the word and they didn’t come. Then he says, go out into the highways and the hedges and find the poor and the man, the hall, bring them in. Anybody. And there’s always people who have a reason for not doing it. We can’t be responsible for people rejecting Christ. But at least our responsibility is to get the gospel to them. So this is what makes the radio, the internet, and everything that we have and the ministries we have here on the campus here so important.
Don’t take it for granted because it wouldn’t take that much for all to stop. Just that much and it could all stop. We wonder sometime Dr. Polson and I and Steve, we get together, we find out how much do we have in there for the radio ministry? Can we make it another month? Can we make it another month? Sometimes it looks like it’s just so close we’re not gonna be able to keep the radiomanistry going. And so it’s amazing that somebody’ll send a little money and somebody’ll send some.
And next thing you know, well, we made it another month and then we made it another month. And so after four and a half years, we’re still right there. But you never know it’s like, we got an extra month and then we can breathe a little bit. And some of them say, it’s not because we want money. It’s because we know there’s people that can be reached because of it. And it’s such a powerful tool, powerful tool. So here in John, when he makes this statement, he that rejected me and received, if not my words.
This is why it’s so important. See there in verse 47, if any man hear my words and believe not, I judge him not and I came not to judge the world, But to save the world, he that rejects me, the words will judge him in the last day. Remember the world is already condemned. He came for the world to be saved because that’s what he wants. Look in John chapter 13, the Gospel of John chapter 13, and look there in verse 20.
verse 20 disciplining. Verse 20 says, Verily, verily, I say unto you, hear that receiveth, whomsoever I send receiveth me. So when you’re talking about receiving them, it means that you’re listening and you’re believing what the person has because they have my word, my message. So he says, he that receiveth, whomsoever I send receiveth me. And he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.” You may get a little confused, but that’s all right. Just understand this. There’s somebody in heaven that sent you and sent me into the world.
The Christ says, as the Father hath sent me, even so send I you. Father sent him, I sent you. So we’re going because we’ve been sent. We’re missionaries. Every one of us is a child of God. We’re missionaries. Some are local missionaries. Some are country missionaries. Some are foreign missionaries. But we’re all missionaries. And you’re either a missionary or a mess. You either ought to be reaching somebody or somebody ought to be reaching you. Isn’t that simple? You ought to be reaching someone or somebody needs to reach you.
But if you’re not reaching somebody, you need to be reached. I’ll write that down in the book. Now look in verse 19. The verse right before it. Now I tell you before it come that when it has come to pass, you may believe that I am here. I want you to believe that I am who I claim to be. Then afterwards he sent them into the world and preached this wonderful gospel so that we could have eternal life. Now take your Bible and turn to John chapter 3, the gospel of John in chapter 3.
And notice there in John chapter 3 verse 32. Verse 32 he says, and what he hath seen and heard that he testifyeth. And no man receiveeth his testimony. He that hath received his testimony have set to his seal that God is true. You see, you’re going in to the world and you talk to people and you’re telling them the testimony of Jesus Christ. You’re testifying who he claimed to be, what he claimed to do, and what he will do if you’ll trust him as Savior.
You see, we’re just like a witness telling somebody, look, this is what I believe to be true. And here’s why I believe it’s true. You are testifying, therefore he says, be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of the Lord. It means don’t be ashamed of the gospel because it’s the gospel that is the testimony of God. It tells you who God is. Tells you what God did. tells you how he loves, tells you how he hates, and why.
And so when you understand it, it can help you just a little bit better. Now, you’ll notice there in John chapter 1 and verse 12, you know what a good thing to do. I don’t know if many people can do this. Pretend that every person in the world was Jesus. Pretend every person in the world was Jesus. But lost. There’s no need to twist. What would you do to reach him? Let’s pretend he died on the cross so that everybody can be saved.
Now pretend that every person in the world is Jesus. What would you do to reach him? What would you do to get the gospel to him? If He was Jesus and he was lost. But he died for everyone else. So you picture in your mind that every person out there is Jesus and I want to get him and I want to get him and I want to get him. And in the back of your mind it’s always because look what he did for me.
Why am I trying to reach that person? Because Jesus died for that person. Jesus loves that person. listening to another great message from Pastor Arnold and we at Bibleline thank you for tuning in.
