If you ever tried to figure out what I’m going to speak on before I speak, I have. gave me a little statement that I thought I would share with you, to live with saints in heaven. All that will be glory. But to live with saints on earth, oh that’s another story. Because we’re really going to be talking about that. Living with saints on earth. Now we know when we get to heaven we’re going to get along, right? But until then, until then.

Turn in your Bible to the book of 1 Corinthians in chapter, now let’s start off in Galatians chapter 5. I thought that would throw you. Galatians chapter 5, so I’m page 1246 in one of the church Bibles. But in chapter 5 I want you to notice this. In verse 9 says, a little 11, 11th, the whole lump. Now whatever the lump is, 11 11th, if the whole lump. And 11 we find in the Bible kind of gives us the idea of sin begins to permeate the life.

You have some dough and I used to watch my mama roll dough, mix dough and she’d roll it over and mix it and roll it and get that and flour everywhere you know she’d roll that dough and she’d cut off pieces and she’d make biscuits and we love biscuits, then load it down with some black glasses and some peanut butter and then we’d slap it all in there and just slap it all over your face and just good good good.

But dough, and when you put yeast in it, it causes it to arise. Puss it up. So the Bible talks about a little leaven of the whole lump, in other words, permeates the whole thing. But what is he talking about? So you see there in verse 7, you did run well, who did heend to you that you should not obey the truth? So when you did know the truth and obey the truth, you did run well. So a little 11 must have been a little lie.

It’s not the truth, so it had to be a lie. And it probably was a little white lie that did you. So if you’re not running well, you’ve allowed some yeast into your life, some 11 into your life, sin into your life. And I believe that’s what he’s talking about. But it says this persuasion, something that caused you not to think the way you should think has persuaded you to do something that you shouldn’t have done. So now take your Bible and go there over there to the book of 1 Corinthians in chapter 4.

So you know what yeast does cause it to rise. And most preachers add a little of the leaven into their messages because it raises the dough. Because you know a little yeast makes you feel a little bit better. You don’t want to cure loaf of bread without some yeast in it. So. Got to spice up your life a little bit. But here in 1 Corinthians in chapter 4, I want you to look in verse 6, where it makes a statement in verse 6.

And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sake, that you might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written that no one of you be puffed up for one against another. Now as you read the book of Corinthians, you’ve got to find out that a lot of people were puffed up. So if a lot of people were popped up, then a lot of people had some living in their life.

So we have a whole book dealing with this subject. You’re puffed up. It means that you have allowed sin in the life. and sin in your life will permeate your whole life. I’ll remember any sin tolerated in your life permeates eventually your whole life. One little sin that you don’t think is that bad can bring you down. Be aware. So later on you’ll see when he says, I speak this as unto wise men, judgey what I say. They often say, you know, a word to the wise is, hmm, sufficient.

All right, we’ll see about that. A word to the wise is supposed to be. So there were people that were not doing right. Now I want you to picture for a moment up here. There’s a loaf of bread. Over here, this loaf of bread, you got yeast in it. So it’s all popped up. Over here we have another loaf of bread, but there’s no yeast in it, so it’s flat as a flitter.

No yeast. When you and I were born into this world, you and I were an old lump, just an old lump of clay. We were all up and we were permeated with sin because of our old sinful nature. Somebody explained to gospel to you and you trusted Christ as your Savior. The new birth has no yeast in it. It’s flat. It’s bread, but it’s no yeast in it. There’s no sin in it. No sinful nature came from God. So you have these two.

Before you trust the Lord, you were an old lump. When you trusted Christ as Savior, you’re a new lump. You said, I didn’t know. That’s what I was before I came to church this morning. You’re just a lump. Now, you need to follow this because it’s so important. So when you see these Christians in the church at Corinth, being popped up is because some of the yeast has got into the new lump. It didn’t come that way, but we’re talking about here you are in your Christian life, and you have an old sinful nature, and you have a new birth.

So when you got up this morning you came to church. I just want to know now you just be honest with me. How many of you have an old sinful nature? Just let me see your hand. Or some of you don’t know. Your wife will explain it to you when you get home. How many of you brought your old sinful nature to church this morning? How many of you left George at home. So you brought that old lump, that old sinful lump, you brought it to church this morning.

Now you know he’s not going to get any better. You know church is not going to help that old lump and you brought him to church today. Regardless of what I say, I can’t help that old lump, but can we help the new lump? So there is hope. Now, the church at Corinth as a whole is looked upon as a loaf of bread. It’s a loaf, but in this church individuals that are Make up this loaf. We’re allowing the old sinful nature that 11 could permeate their individual lives.

So when they came to church, they were permeating the whole loaf. They were contaminating other believers. So instead of it being a pure loaf, it was an unpure loaf. So the church was having about 14 major problems in the church. There were many divisions in the church. And this is why you find here in 1 Corinthians in chapter one, look in verse 10, where he makes the statement, now I beseech you brethren by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that ye all speak the same thing, evidently they weren’t.

That you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, and that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind, in the same judgment, because evidently they weren’t. Because there was a little 11, 11, if the whole lump. And they weren’t dealing with it, and they were puffed up about it. So as you come across some of these scriptures, you find out that they were puffed up. Look there again in 1 Corinthians chapter four, and look in verse 18.

In verse 18 he says, and now some are, and here’s that word, puffed up. What does yeast do to the bread? Puffs it up. So being puffed up means that there’s yeast in the Christian’s life that’s permeating their life. So when they go to church and gather together, they’re contaminating others. They’re causing other people to become divisive and angry and bitterness. All these things that we hear that’s not supposed to be is. So God has to deal with this.

Look in verse 19, but I will come to you shortly if the Lord will and will know not the speech of of them which are popped up but the power. So there are people that are being popped up thinking that there’s somebody choosing between one and the other and making individual leaders. And Paul just simply says, I refer to myself as an example, but they were splitting their church. They were ruining their church because you’ll notice that most people when they split church, they always do it in a spiritual way.

It’s always the Lord has given him such insight that nobody else sees but them. And they feel it’s their duty to enlighten everybody, but they don’t handle it spiritually. They got to try to build a case. So they talk to individuals become divisive, sow seeds of discord. That’s wicked. You need to be able to detect when it’s right and when it’s wrong. And this is why the Bible says if you have ought against somebody you go to the person, doesn’t it?

Go to the person. Try to solve that problem. Is it whether you can’t talk to him? You can’t talk to have you ever heard somebody say, well, you know, you just can’t talk to the preacher. Every person who’s ever wanted to talk to the preacher can talk to this preacher. Anybody in this church, you can talk to me anytime you want to. I’ll talk to anybody. And so for everyone that I’ve talked to, nobody has died. That’s the devil who scares you into, Well, you know, he’s too intimidating.

His mind’s already made his hard-headed. And you listen to that. And a little 11 will permeate the whole load and ruin your Christian life. It eats on the inside of you like cancer. It can happen between you and your husband. You and your wife. You and the kids on the job. And the devil is always trying to get a little of that sin in there. Well, turning your Bible to the book of 1 Corinthians in chapter 5. And chapter 5, look there in verse 1, it is reported commonly that there is fornication among you and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles that one should have his father’s wife.

See anything wrong with that? You think that’s wrong? says it wrong. And God says it wrong. So it must be wrong. But were they doing it? Yes. Were they dealing with it? No. And look at the next verse 2, and you are popped up. No shame. You’re allowing sin and it puffs you up and you don’t deal with it. You see, the Bible talks about pride. Pride is what lifts you up, being lifted up with pride. And yet God says, one of the things He hates is pride.

And what was the thing that was Satan’s problem? Pride and what causes a man to go his own way? Pride and what causes a person to rebel against the will of God? Pride because it puffs you up and you become so deceived that you don’t even detect it. And yet it’s so destructive. And so he says in verse two, you’re puffed up and have not rather mourned. So here’s Christians that was not responding to sin in their church the right way.

And they’re being rebuked because of it. Instead of individuals dealing with a particular problem, they just let it go. It doesn’t really matter. Everybody’s like that. Oh, so God’s church would be like the world because, well, the world is like that. This isn’t the world. This is the church. Do you expect God’s people to live a holier life than the people in the world? They should. Now look what else he says here. that have done this deed might be taken away from among you.

The person who does this deed should be taken away. But that hasn’t happened. So Paul says that we need to pray. So he says here, when you come together, pray about this situation. Now look there in verse five. In verse five, to deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, physical death. He would still be saved, but he’d be physically dead. You say, what? You’d pray for that? How much do you love the church? Christ says he loved the church and gave his life for it.

Well, who is the church? That’s God’s people. That’s the believers. Don’t of trusty Christ is Savior. If you don’t love them, how can you say you love God, whom you have not seen? If you can’t love God’s people, that you do see. So the Lord lays these things on us. And then He makes this statement here in verse six, your glory is not good. Know ye not that a little 11, 11th, the whole lump.

In other words, what sin should be dealt with You’re glorying about it. You’re popped up about it. As oh, hey, we’re under grace here. Under grace means you can live in any way you want. And there’s no consequences. No. We are to be disciplined by grace. It means that you and I should do what we do because we love the Lord. And God’s love for us should motivate us to do what’s right. This is really what the Lord suffers about in the 11th chapter.

So we haven’t got there yet, but it’s working toward that, believe it or not. So now look what He says in verse 7, purge out therefore the O-11 that you may be a new lump as ye are unleavened. You see, when you trusted Christ as your Savior, He paid for all of your sins, gave you a new birth. The new birth is without leaven. It means it’s without a sinful nature. It has no sinful nature. So here you are as a believer, allowing the yeas from this old leaven to get into your Christian life and ruin your testimony.

So God says it needs to be dealt with. So this morning, I want you to understand this, so that you’ll know to do this next Sunday. Next Sunday when you come to church, I want you to leave your old sinful nature at home. You’re sure we can’t leave it at home? It’s inside of me. All right. I want you to pretend then that you left it at home. when you’re getting the car. You don’t have road rage. You don’t holler, yell, and scream, bloody murder, your wife and the kids.

What do you left the old symphonic? You left it at home. And then when you get home, take it and put it in the trash can. Close it. Monday morning, when the trash men come, they can take it away. I’ve often wanted, can I go and have surgery and have the doctor look inside of me and say, ah, there’s his old symphonic nature. Just cut it out. Wouldn’t it be neat? But see, what God did with us is He didn’t remove it.

He gave us a new heart. He gave us a new birth. He gave us unleavened loaf of bread. That’s why you and I can go into all the world and from this bread that we are, we can feed the multitudes. See, he took the little loaves from the kid and he multiplied it and then they were fed from it. Christ is the bread, but you and I are these little loaves of bread. We’re supposed to go in the world and feed them.

Now what do you think we’re supposed to give them? Leaven bread or unleavened bread? Unleavened bread. supposed to give them through our life and through the message that we have on the love and bread. But if we allow the old sinful nature to permeate our life you won’t give a clear message and you won’t live a pure life. Sin will ruin you. You can’t go home and watch pornography and it not bother you. You can’t read dirty magazines and books and listen to junk.

It’ll ruin you. It’ll rob you of your power that you have between you and God. You say, well, I just tolerate a little bit. Don’t tolerate any of it. Keep your testimony clean between you and God. Now look what he says here in verse seven. Purge out there for the old leaven that you may be a new lump as ye are unleavened for even Christ, our Passover is sacrificed for us. Now look at the next verse. Therefore, Let us keep the feast not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, because he that comes from the old sinful nature.

Don’t allow that old love, that old nature, that old birth destroy your Christian life. Seek to live as holy as Godly as you possibly can. And when you detect a little 11 in your life, confess that to the Lord. Confess it to the Lord. Lord, I found another speck. And this is why David in the book of 139 Psalm prayed to the Lord, search me, O God, and see if there be any wicked way in me. Reveal it to me, areas in my life that ought not be there, so you can deal with it.

It’s called the principle of replacement. You see, you can’t just get things out of your life. life. You have to replace it with something that’s better. See, I’ve never had to go through life. I’m not going to do this. I’m not going to do that. I’m not going to do that. I just feel that my life with things that I will do. So if I do all the things God says to do, voila, I don’t have time to do all those things that I shouldn’t do because God gave me enough to do.

So you see, the Christian life is an unnegative thing. It’s a positive thing. Do what God says to do and you all have time to get in trouble. My life is so scheduled and so busy. I’d have to schedule it when they get in trouble. That’s what you’ve got to think. You’ve got to live that away. Now, this is important down through here, but look at the last part of verse 8, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

So there’s saying God says He wants us to do. Now, Also, I want you to take your Bible and look here in the book of 1 Corinthians 8. 1 Corinthians 8 and look now in verse 1. He says, now as touching things offered on do idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge does what? Puff it up. That doesn’t mean that you’re spiritually minded, spiritually mature, just because, well, I’ve been through the Bible a few times. Yeah, but do you obey the Bible?

It’s not how many times you’ve been through the Bible. Has the Bible been through you? Did it go through you and clean your life? Or you just knowledge puff it up? Because you can answer people’s questions. Well, I know the Bible. I can quote all the verses and all that. I can find everything I want. That doesn’t make you godly. That doesn’t make you spiritually minded. You see, it’s whenever it permeates your mind and permeates your life where it changes you.

If the Word of God doesn’t change you, you don’t know the Bible. If you don’t live a godly life, you don’t know the Bible. I don’t care if you can memorize every word in the Bible. You don’t know it unless it changes your life. If you don’t understand it, because there’s things that God teaches in his Word that if If I know I do this, God’s gonna be the daylights. I mean, I believe that, but that’s a restrainer for my life.

That’ll keep me from doing certain things. Knowing how God works, works. Look in 1 Corinthians chapter 13, 1 Corinthians chapter 13. And look down in verse four, 1 Corinthians chapter 13, and verse four. Where it says charity, which is love, sufferth long, and is kind, charity envy if not, charity bond if not itself, and here’s those little words, is not puffed up. You see love is something that God wants us to have. It doesn’t exalt the man. Love exalts the other person.

When you love somebody else, you don’t try to hurt them or destroy them or put a stumbling block in front of them. When you love other people, then it makes you guard your testimony. It’s without leaven. It doesn’t puff you up. Love is clean and pure. The divine love that God has. And so does the book of Corinthian say anything about this being puffed up stuff? Yeah, I think it does. But let me give you one more verse. Colossians chapter two, the book of Colossians and chapter two.

Colossians and chapter two, right after the book of Philippians. Colossians chapter two and look in verse 18. And you’ll notice this puffed up thing is because of sin in your mind, in your life. Verse 18 says, let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly, and his those two words, puffed up by his fleshly mind. So you can think all that you want, but you need to know what the Word of God says and apply it to your Christian life.
