We are studying about what happened What happened after the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Do you know just our whole Christian lives are based upon the fact that we believe that Jesus is alive? I mean, aren’t we trusting Him to lead us, the guide us, the teach us? Don’t we believe that the Bible is true? So every day of our Christian lives, we’re demonstrating whether we really believe He came back from the dead or not. Because if he didn’t come back from the dead, the Bible says, we are of all men most miserable, because you have no hope.
I was talking to a lady and I says, do you know where you’re going to go in your die? She says, well, I sure hope so. And I said, well, why do you think you’re going? She said, well, I’ve been pretty good. No, those are dead giveaway signs of something, not an artist. It means that she doesn’t know, she doesn’t know how to get there. And if you hope so, you’re not really sure. You’re doing all the things that you even know to do.
So anyway, I had a chance to talk to an expander. But the reason you can do that is because of what you believe and it affects your whole life. So when you’re on the job and you got pressures of home, whether it’s husband or wife or kids or finances or health, don’t we believe that God is alive and well can do something about it. You see Christ coming back from the dead is what gives us all of this real hope that we believe that it’s true.
Now take your Bible and turn to the book of Psalm 16, the 16th Psalm. And you’ll notice that in the 16th Psalm written by King David over a thousand years before Jesus Christ ever came. And even back then though he looked forward to the day that Jesus Christ would, the Messiah would literally come and do all of these things. That He made some statements also. See there in verse 1, He says, preserve me, oh God, wherein they do I put my trust.
But you see, He was going to talk a little bit later about, you know, the Lord coming and dying on the cross and coming back from the dead. But it affects how you live your life because it’s why we put our hope and our trust in the Lord. Doesn’t it say somewhere in the Bible about trusting the Lord with all of our heart, lay not unto the Lord unto the Lord unto the Lord. And then, oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, if Jesus didn’t come back from the dead, then his promise that he would is it true?
And if you know he deliberately lied to us, it’d be hard for us to trust him, wouldn’t it? But did he keep his word? So Jesus coming back from the dead is the reason why it affects our daily life. We believe the promises of God because God promised something and it happened. Christ came back from the dead and here we are. So we’re supposed to live like the disciples did that were there and saw Him. It changed their whole life.
See they’d heard a lot and they said we thought he was the one that should redeem Israel. Well he was and so much they did not understand but after the resurrection of Christ Well, now they understood. So they believed and look what they were able to do. These humble fishermen that was able to go out into all the world willing to die. I don’t think they were that willing to die for something that didn’t really believe in. I believe they really believed that Jesus Christ came back that they saw him.
And the Bible says they walk with him and talk for 40 days. 40 days that he showed himself alive after many. And proof. In other words, beyond the shadow of a doubt. He didn’t do it with everybody just so. You’re chosen people. But look what he says here in Psalms 16 where he says, Oh my soul thou has said unto the Lord. He says, Thou art my Lord, my goodness extended not to thee only, but to the saints that are in the earth and to the excellent in whom is all my delight.
There sorrow shall be multiplied that hasteneth after another God.” That in verse 5, the Lord is the portion of mine inheritance, my cup that maintains my life. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, yea, I have a goodly heritage. And this is the land that was measured in the past lots and so forth, all these things of Christ on the cross. Then He says, down here in verse 9, therefore my heart is glad. My glory rejoices. Now, this is also King David making the statement because in the New Testament it referred back to these verses.
But David is saying, now look, here’s somebody who wants to kill him, you know, Saul, and so many things that gone against him, though he had already been anointed to be the king of Israel. Man, after he became the anointed one, he had a miserable life. He was running for his life, half his life. And so, you see, like, it never happened, but in the spite of all of that, he had God’s promise. He was known to be the king of Israel, and he was going to be the king of Israel.
And God allowed pine to go on with Saul trying to kill him and so on all those things. He was loaded with a lot of sorrow and a lot of grief and he also makes a statement here. Therefore my heart is glad but it’s glad because of something else. It’s glad here but it’s looking beyond the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It will be worth it all. See what he says, therefore my heart is glad my glory would hurt, my flesh also shall rest in hope.
For thou will not leave my soul in hell, neither will thou suffer thy in holy want to see corruption. Now sometimes you have a problem trying to figure out is this talking about David or is it talking about the Lord. Look what the Holy Spirit, if he was coming here today and he was going to teach this portion of scripture, well what would he have to say about it? So hold your place right here because I want to come back here.
Look over there in the book of Acts, the book of Acts, the resurrection of Christ is the foundation upon which everything we have in Christianity rests because God had It’s the only way we can know that there is truly life after death. You and I have never seen anybody come back from the dead. Have you? You haven’t seen anybody? You personally? You haven’t seen anybody? So if I was to die today and three or four days later from now, I come walking in here da da da da da da.
You say, ah, that’s just a clone. You probably wouldn’t believe me. He had to prove himself who he was and all the eyewitnesses. Have you seen me walk on water lately? Have you seen me raise the dead? Have you seen me make the blind to see and the deaf to hear and the dumb? Have you seen me do anything miraculous? Not really have you. So that’s why you’re not too impressed with me. I can see that. Oh well. went some loose some but now look what he says there in Acts chapter 2.
Now last Sunday I covered a few of these verses. I didn’t have a lot of time because we had such a wonderful service with all the music that we had but I want you to look there in verse 25 chapter 2 verse 25 for David speaketh concerning him. I for saw the Lord always before my face, for He is on my right hand that I should not be moved. Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad, more over also my flesh, I will rest in hope, because that will not leave my soul in hell.
Neither will thou separate line, holy one to say corruption. Now, he’s quoted in the same scripture that we just read over there in the book of Psalm 16. Then in verse 28, Thou hath made known to me the ways of life, and that’s the ways of eternal life. Thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that He is both dead and buried. His Separica is with us unto this day.
So His body is in that grave. But there is no body for Jesus. He is not here. He is risen. But He says in verse 30, therefore, being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to Him that of the fruit of his loins. According to the flesh, the Messiah would come to the line of David. And he says he would raise him up to sit on his throne. When he says that, he says in verse 31, he’s seen this before, spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell.
Neither his flesh did see corruption. So that part of these scriptures refers to the Messiah, talking about Jesus Christ. And his body did not corrupt. They say, start on the fourth day, I really don’t know. I really don’t care when it starts. All I know is that he came back from the dead and it’s a prophecy in the Old Testament, a thousand years before he came that he would come back from the dead. Now go back there to Psalms 16.
Psalm 16, and you’ll notice what he says there in verse 11, when he talks about the path of life or the way of life is talking about the way to have eternal life. Why did Christ do what he did so that we could have eternal life? I brought it out I think last week, a statement that I I heard a preacher say when he says, I go to prepare a place for you. Or, because he already said, I have a mansion, and then my father’s house, and many mansions, if it were that, so when you already got a mansion.
So did he go there to build something, or did he go there to cross to make a way? I don’t know, but it sounds good. But he made a way. See there in verse 11, that will show me the path of life or the way to have eternal life. And thy presence is fullness of joy, and thy presence. this is why you and I are supposed to in our daily life live as though you’re always in the presence of the Lord.
Now you say you can’t see him, okay, but then he’s right beside you and he walks with you everywhere you go. And anybody that says anything to you wrong, he heard it. And don’t worry about it because if you do what you do because of who he is and you’re walking in the presence of the Lord, God takes care of them. You just do right and you don’t have to take revenge though you want to, but you might be at times better not to.
There’s a time when this best just to not say anything and let people say and think whatever they want. As a preacher, I’ve always resented having to defend myself to anybody. Somebody says something, getting mad, boy, I didn’t believe it. Last thing I wanted to do is tell everybody what they said. I mean, if you got something bad against me, and I get up here on Sunday morning, do you know what that person said about me? And then I tell everybody what he said.
Well, I just saved him a lot of trouble, didn’t I? So it’d be better off just let him say it. Don’t worry about it. Because there’s a day when you get to heaven, God will take care of everything. You just walk with the Lord and keep getting up. So the resurrection of Christ is supposed to affect our daily lives, the decisions that we make. Because we believe there’s somebody that’s already died. Come back from the dead and he’s watching us, and he’s gonna bless us, and he’s gonna reward us, and it will be worth it all.
And so you don’t have to worry about what the world does to us. Therefore the godly shall suffer persecution. Did you know that some of your persecution can come from your husband? It can come from your wife. It can come from your kids. It can come from your mother-in-law. It’s going to say that. But it can come from anybody at any time. You can be persecuted for doing what’s right. Because see, a lot of times the people you live with, they really know how you really are.
True? And if you do something wrong, sometimes they’re looking for anything that can jump on your forehead and it just puts you down. Just to put you down. That means you can’t put them down because… You put them down and therefore you can’t say anything because you’ll give the same thing. You’d be surprised how the old sinful nature works inside of us. But notice what he says here in the last part of verse 11. This is awesome verse. And he says, at thy right hand, there are, and you ought to underline these words, pleasures for how long, forever.
That means that you are going to get the free gift of everlasting life and live in a place of total bliss forever and ever and ever. Because of what Christ did. Now look in Psalms 22 and it also says something wonderful. And we know that Psalms 22 is a kind of like an insight into how Christ thought when he was on the cross. In other words, we can’t go back to the time of the cross and say, what did you think about?
He did it before he got there. So Psalms 22 is like somebody sitting there writing down his feelings, the thoughts of Christ while he was on the cross. Remember he was led as a lamb to the slaughter and he opened out his mouth in defense of himself. He allowed them to say anything about them they wanted to. He allowed them to do anything they wanted to. And headministered it. Because the Bible said he endured the cross. Didn’t enjoy it.
But for the joy that was set before him, it means the results of what he’s going through is going to be worked at all. Oh, what can you and I learn from that? that. While we’re in this world, regardless of the trials and tribulation, all the heartache and everything that you go through, the joy that’s going to be on the other side, because of what you did is going to be worth it. But he makes it this way, that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be.
So it’s like there’s no comparison. What you’re going to have is a result of what you gave up for the Lord and you sacrificed for the Lord. The world cannot compare with what God’s got for you and I. I know sometimes people sing that song. I can only imagine, you ever heard of something? No, you imagine. Well the Bible says you can’t even imagine. I have not seen ear have not heard and neither has entered into the heart of man the things that God is prepared for them to let them, it’s hard to even imagine.
Because there’s nothing in this world that’s going to be like what we’re going to see. And if he did such a beautiful job in this world, when you think about all the beauty there is in the world, think what heaven is going to be like. I thought one time, I don’t know if I want to go to heaven or not. It seems like it’s going to be boring up there. Everybody’s sitting around on their own little cloud. I’ve got to cry on them.
Now God is a God of diversity. God says that we’re going to be serving Him for all eternity. There’s going to be something to do. I kind of have something to do. You know I thought about it would really be neat of the Lord. You know that was told there was nine plants, you know, around our social world. Nine plants, I thought that would make a nice nine-hole golf course. Wouldn’t this one guy was talking to this other friend?
He said, now look, if you die and go to heaven before me, me, I want to find that is there a golf course in heaven and come back and tell me. Well, his friend died. So one night he’s laying there in bed and all of a sudden his friend shows up as an angel with a period of edit for the best bed. He says, Joe, wake up Joe, wake up. He said, I got good news and bad news. He said, well tell me the good news.
He says, a golf course in heaven. Oh, that’s wonderful. What’s the bad news? Your tee-off time is 10 o’clock in the morning. Oh, but anyway, as we move in right along. Psalms 22, you’ll notice what he says here in verse 31, look at verse 31, they shall come and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he have done this. So this is a prophecy about what Jesus Christ did on the cross. And the reason is so that people are going to go out and spread the gospel about his righteousness.
Two of people that shall yet be born. Well, I’m part of that group. Somebody declared unto me the righteousness of God because we have none. So Christ took our sins, and when we believe He took our sins, He gives us His righteousness. He doesn’t give you His righteousness till you believe He took your sins. You see sins and righteousness can’t go together. And so Christ took our sins upon Himself and done. father rejected him and that’s why he says in verse 1, look in verse 1, my God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?
Because the sins of the world were placed upon Christ and so it says there in that verse 1 of chapter 22, it’s telling you how Jesus was thinking while he was on the cross and some of the things that he said, and look at verse six. Remember, you’re talking about the God of the universe, the creator of heaven and earth. The Bible says in John chapter one, in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. But in John chapter one, he does make this statement, in the beginning, he says, God created.
And in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. the same was in the beginning with God and all things were made by Him and without Him was not anything made that was made. He was in the world and the world was made by Him but the world knew Him not and He says in verse 14 of John chapter 1 and the Word became flesh. The Word was God. The world was made by Him and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory.
The the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. So Jesus Christ was the Lord. But look in verse 6, what He says about Himself. What He became a man took upon Himself all of our sins. I am a worm and no man. A reproach of men, despise of the people. Now when you read the book of Isaiah in chapter 53, it says, He shall grow up before Him as a tender plan. And he starts off in chapter 53 verse 1 is the Lord who hath believed our report.
Like he’s writing what’s going to happen 700 years in the future. Who hath believed our report? And when you read that in Romans in chapter 10 it says they believe not the gospel. For Isaiah said, Lord who hath believed our report. See, they were told to believe the gospel and in Romans in chapter 10, they’re told to believe the gospel, to obey the gospel is to believe the gospel because what does the gospel say? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.
So where to believe that? So it says in verse 7, all they that see me laugh me to scorn, they mock me and they did. They mock the Lord and he said in in verse eight, he trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him. Let him deliver him sin, he delighted in him. Remember what he was on the cross, he said, if you be the Messiah, come down and save yourself. Save us, and we will believe, we will believe.
If he became down from the cross, he could have saved nobody. He could not save himself. because if he had it, he could have saved no one. He came as a lamb and was slaughtered. And there was none to help. See there verse 11, “‘Be not far from me for trouble is near, “‘for there is none to help. “‘All these that are against them.” In verse 14, “‘I am poured out like water. “‘All my bones are out of joint.
“‘My heart is like wax. “‘It is melted in the midst of my bow. “‘My strength is dried up like a potchred and my tongue cleave it to my jaws, and thou hath brought me into the dust of death. For dogs which many believe this is a reference to Gentiles have compass made the assembly of the wicked, having closed me, they did what? They pierced my hands and my feet. So, is there a question about who this is talking about?
And this is what he said, they pierced my hands and my feet. This is what’s going on inside of Him and how He felt describing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. You know, sometimes you’ll see these movies they put out about the passion of Christ or killing Jesus and some of these things, but they don’t tell why. They don’t tell why. Why did Christ die? You know I let Him tell the Lord yesterday and I answered question I says, heaven you heard that Christ died on the cross and paid for all the sin of the word.
She said, yes, that’s why. I said, you heard that right? You know, why? Why did he pay for the sins of the world? Because he didn’t want you to have to pay for them. Why did he pay for my sin? Because he didn’t want me to pay for my sins. He paid for myissance so that I wouldn’t have to. And all I had to do was believe he did an or me and he would put that payment he made to my account.
And she trusts the Lord. It’s just so simple. So easy. Shearcity heard a lot of stuff, but she just doesn’t understand. They don’t know how to apply it. the most Catholics around the world have heard Christ out on the cross and paid for the sins of the world and come back from the dead. Don’t they believe that? And have they gone when they die? Because they’re trusting me, they’re married, they’re trusting the father, the priest, they’re trusting their confession, they’re trusting the church, they’re trusting the money they did.
They didn’t trust the one who died for them because they don’t understand. So that’s why we’ve been given a wonderful message. And then says in verse 18, they part my garments among them, they cast lots upon my vesture. The soldiers g(& for his clothes at the foot of the cross. He said, I saw all of that. I saw that. But he says in verse 22, I will declare thy name unto my brethren in the midst of the congregation while I praise thee.
Now hold your place right. I want you to see that. Look in the book of Hebrews in chapter 2, the book of Hebrews and chapter 2. We are there in a New Testament. Hebrew chapter 2. Hebrews chapter 2, and you’ll notice they’re in verse 9. But we see Jesus, who has made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death. So the angels don’t die. So he had to become a man if he was going to die for the world and he had to be a near tensement.
He had to be a man that would die for us but he had to be an innocent man. It means he had to be pure. If he wasn’t, he had to pay for his own sins. So Jesus was born, lived under the law, but the law could not condemn him to death because he had done nothing wrong. Now the Romans and the Pharisees and the Sadducees and the chief priests, they condemned him to die, but that was a false kangaroo court and it wasn’t done according to law.
They had no evidence that he had done anything wrong. When he did say that he was the Son of God, did he lie? He didn’t lie. He told the truth. He says, I am the way the truth is in life. But he wasn’t lying. And he said, I am the son of God. Was he lying? He wasn’t lying. See, they didn’t catch him in a lie. And when he says, destroy this temple in three days, I’ll raise it again.
Well, he wasn’t talking about the temple that was there. They just didn’t understand. He was talking about his body. So, he didn’t lie.
