Now take your Bible and turn to the book of Hebrews chapter 10. Hebrews chapter 10, and you’ll notice there, these are people that well had learned many things, did many things, and I covered this one night with you, but from a different angle, but I wanna show you this to you. You see there in verse 32, he said, I want you to call to remembrance. Remember what you’ve heard, what you’ve learned, what you’ve gone through, the sacrifices you’ve made, all the years of your faith in the Civil War, your dedication, the hours you spent, the money you’ve given, your sacrifice, all this.
Can you remember? You probably don’t remember everything. I was trying to remember some things the other day and I knew parts of it and then Betty says, yank, you remember blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, I said, no, I have no clue. She said, remember the blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, I said, honey, I do not remember. Finally she says, you know where you had, this took place, yes, now I remember. She just did that this afternoon. And I remember, okay, that’s the place where I put my hands on the clothesline.
And trying to remember the address of a certain house that we lived in 50 years ago, for a short period of time. But when both kids got sick, one up in the hospital, no job, no hospitalization, no nothing, and I’m going to school and it was just bad news. Nothing ever seemed to work out smooth for me. I had to struggle all the way through. And I used to wonder whether or not it was worth it at all. And so I went out one night with my hands on the clothesline in the dark, bed he was in the house.
And I had my hands on the clothesline. And I was blessing God out. I mean, I had a time with me and God. I was mad, I was angry, I was crying, I was emotional, very emotional. And I was talking out loud and I was talking to God and I held nothing back. And I was talking God about how He is on the verge ruining his testimony because I said God I am your child and I’m trusting you but if you don’t come through if you don’t come through you realize I’m gonna tell everybody you did not come through I said but if you will do what you say you’ll do I’ll tell everybody boy did I eat my words for a while have you ever had to eat your own words they don’t taste so good have you ever got to eat crow it
doesn’t taste very good. But look what he says here in verse 32. But call to remembrance the former days. So you see, these are things they have already experienced. They’ve gone through things. It’s like y’all have been here for a long time and you’ve gone through some of the Wanna programs years ago. You’ve gone through some of y’all go all the way back to ranch. Some of you trust the Christ of Savior because of Dr. Linson on the radio and you’ve been here and you’ve seen things and all the pressures and some of the problems and I mean you’ve got a history but you’re still here and you’re still faithful.
Don’t stop now. We’re too close to home. So he says here, the call to remember the former days in which after you were illuminated, you endured a great fight of affliction. A lot of things that afflicted you. A lot of problems, a lot of heart, a lot of stress. These Hebrew Christians were suffering. Some of them were being killed. They paid a great price back in the early church age. And there was people trying to kill the Christians. And one of them by the name of Paul, what was his name?
Paul. His name was Saul and then he became Paul. But he did a lot of damage to the church. And you’re talking about how the persecution was great. So there was a price and it says, you endured so much. And then they would take up, offer some of them sold everything that they had for the cause of Christ. So they’d get the gospel to more people. And everybody had the same thing, but they did it willingly, voluntarily. And then later on they had to take up offerings from people over in Macedonia and take up offerings that gives those poor saints in Jerusalem.
Why were they so poor? Because they gave up everything. They paid a price to get everything going. because they believed it. And they believed that Christ was coming back soon. And now he didn’t come. Now all their resources were gone. Now there’s great persecution, great fight of affliction. And they had gone through that. And he says, he endured a great fight of affliction. See this endured is the same thing you find over there in the book of Hebrews in chapter 12 when it talks about Christ endured.
And you and I are supposed to endure. You don’t enjoy a lot of things in the Christian life. People don’t always treat you right. Things don’t always work out right. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you’re a frauded, sometimes people lie about you and you can’t get even, there’s no justice, don’t worry about it. There’s somebody who keeps the books on everything and God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of blood. God remembers. If you believe that and trust that, then you don’t have to worry about it.
Otherwise you’re going to have a vengeful spirit. You’re going to have a get even attitude. I’m going to make them pay what they did to me. You don’t have to make anybody pay anything. Just be faithful and do what God wants you to do. Because if you don’t, you’ll find yourself getting enraveled and entangled in the affairs of the things of this life that you cannot please him who have called you to be a good soldier. So then he says here in verse 33, Partly why you were made a gazing stop both by reproaches and affliction.
Partly why you became companions of them that were so used. In other words, because you were associated with us, you paid a price for that. You may pay a price just because you come to this church. Or you go to that church of an hour where that preacher teaches that once saved, always saved. You’d be surprised what people could have to go through. So you may have to bear it. Some people can’t. They can’t take it. There’s always something, but look what he also says here.
He says in verse 34, for ye had compassion of me in my mind, took joyfulness, fallen of your goods, knowing in yourselves that you have in heaven a better and enduring substance, cast not away there for your confidence which hath great recompense of reward. For ye have need of patience. Now get this statement. you have done the will of God. You might receive the promise. See, there’s promises that you’ll receive while you’re here, but it’s after you do the will of God.
Sometimes we want God to pay us in advance. No, you’ll be faithful and then pay day someday. You don’t know how God’s going to bless down the road. Don’t worry about it. You just believe that He will. That’s you’ve been patient and you’re not going to say, well, I’ll serve the Lord if and I’ll serve the Lord if. No, then you’ll be an if-a-out-of-only. And there’s a club called that. If-a-out-of-only club. You don’t want to be a member of that club.
So you put your confidence in the Lord and serve the Lord. And don’t worry about anything else. God will take care of the future. You just do the right that you know to do why you can. And this is what He says here in verse 35, cast not away therefore your confidence. Verse 36, for ye had need of patience, you had need of patience, that after you have done the will of God, you might receive the promise. And he says he’s coming.
You see there, he’s coming. Yet a little while and he that shall come will come and will not tear you. Now just look there in chapter 9. Somebody else is promised he’s going to come. They thought he might have come back right then on the spot, but he didn’t come back then. So in verse 28 of chapter 9 he says, so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many. And unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Now some people are not going to be looking for him, but he’s still going to appear. He is going to appear. There are some people that will be looking for the Lord, and there’s going to be some people that are going to be ashamed because he says there’s a reward mentioned in the book of James to those who love his appearing. Those who serve him because they’re looking for him. They’re expecting it. And expect the Lord to come at any time is what helped the Christian to purify his life.
That’s what he’s talking about in 1 John chapter 3. We don’t know what we shall be like, but we know we shall be like him, but we shall see him as he is. And those who have this hope purifyeth himself. So we purify our life because of the hope that we are going to meet Jesus soon, or he could come at any time. His promise is sure. Be patient. Wait. It’s going to take place. Now take your Bible and turn to chapter 12.
Chapter 12, and I want you to look there with me in verse 23, Hebrews chapter 12 and verse 23. The Lord had told us about how that God came down and talked to Moses on Mount Sinai. And at that time the people were afraid. They were trembling because he also gave him a warning, don’t touch this mount because if you touch this mount you could be shot through a little darce. Radiation, whatever you want to call it, but they wouldn’t live.
So there was a great price to pay and people were scared. But in verse 22 he says, but you’re a common to Mount Zion, a different Mount. And unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven and to God the judge of all and get this statement. This is a tremendous statement and to the spirits of just men made what?
The spirits of just men made perfect. So as you go through Hebrews you’ll find out the law could not make you perfect but the bringing in of a better hope did. Man could not be made perfect by his works under the law but by faith in Christ a man can be made perfect. So God is the Father of just been made perfect. Look there in chapter 12 and look down there also in verse 9, where his phrase says, furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us and we gave them reverence.
Shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father? That’s why God is our Father. Remember when we trust Christ as our Savior we are born of God. God becomes our Father. When Jesus says all that the Father give to me shall come to me. Well God the Father is going to give us to the Son and all that the Father give to me shall come and I’ll never cast them out. So you see we are the inheritance that the Son receives because of the payment He made for the sins of the world.
That’s also mentioned in the second Psalm where it talks about we will be His inheritance. We are of what He’s after. But it’s not Jesus that gives us the new birth in a sense. We’re born of God, the Father. And therefore He is the Father of spirits made perfect, and then we will be given to the Son because we’re the bride that will be given to the Son and the Son will never divorce His wife. not that good or not?
As Jesse would say, is that good? And they good? Now, here in Hebrews, notice what he says in verse 25, see that you refuse not Him of that speaking. You see, God told Him in the Old Testament under Moses what to do, and they said, all that He told us, we will do, but did they? They never kept law for 1500 years. Now he says, this salvation that we have, don’t neglect so great a salvation. Don’t depart from this wonderful salvation that God has given to us.
I’m not talking you can’t depart from the salvation you’ve been saved but this message that God has given to the purpose that God has given to us. You see we’re saved, saved, saved. When you trusted Christ you were saved from the penalty of sin. In our life we’re being saved from the power of sin. And then one day we’ll be saved from the very presence of sin. So we’re saved, saved, saved. Don’t let this pass you by. Don’t depart from the living God and start following the world and drifting into things that will be nothing but briars and thorns and just waste in your life.
Keep dedicated to the Lord. Don’t stop now. Look what else he says. This is to the believer. This is not to the lost man. This is not on how to be saved. This is because you are saved. So he says, for if they escape not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven. How shall we escape? Escape what? What is found here in the 12th chapter?
What do you find is one of the headlines of this chapter? When you think about the 12th chapter of Hebrews, what do you think about? Chasing. Chasing. The Chasing of the Lord. God chasing them, God’s going to chasin’ us. And you’re going to be chasing by the Lord. There is a price to pay for rebellion to the Lord. When we say, you know, and some people have a trouble with me making the statement, you can trust Christ’s Savior and live like you please.
Well, the live like you please remember is living according to the choices that you make. You can make choices to serve the Lord and you can make choices to rebel against God. Is that true or is it not true? It’s true whether we like it or not. God has set us free to make choices. So I am free to live any way I want. I am free to make any choices that I want. And so is there anything wrong with me choosing to serve God?
That’s okay. And is there anything wrong with me choosing not to serve God? Now that’s not good. That’s briars and thorns and chasing in of Lord. And how are we going to escape that? You can’t escape that because he makes a statement in chapter 12 of what he says. See there in verse 6, for whom the Lord loveth, he chased it and scurged it every son whom he received it. And in verse 8, but if you be without chastisement, where of all our partakers then argue bastards and not sons, this is a guarantee all of God’s children are going to be dealt with.
Or you can live like you please, but there’s a price for your rebellion. So as you study the book of Hebrews, there’s warnings throughout the book and not departing from the living God. Serve the Lord with all your heart. And God says, if you will, God says He’s going to bless you. Now look back there in chapter 12 and notice what he says. In verse 28, he says, wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved. Let us have grace whereby we may serve God.
So are we talking about serving God? This is service. This is not salvation. As you study the scriptures, always remember separate salvation from service. If it’s talking about serving the Lord, then it’s got to be about service. It’s got to be about God rewarding you. And this is what he’s talking about. Cast not away, therefore, you’re confident, which is great, recompense of reward. But when you don’t keep that clear, you’d be surprised how easy it is to mutilate the Word of God and try to make it say something that it does not say.
When common sense makes good sense, seek no other sense. I learned that from somebody. I think it was Mark Cameron said that, but he got it from somebody else. else I don’t know. But he says here, serve God acceptably with reverence and Godly fear. Now look in chapter 10 Hebrews chapter 10. And you’ll notice that because of who we are, we have been made perfect in Christ. God wants us to serve Him. Look in verse 22 of chapter 10.
Let us draw near verse 23, let us hold fast. Verse 24, let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works. Good works. This is not for salvation. This is the peace of land that you want people to drink in the Word of God and produce some good fruit. See, if you love the Lord, you do not want your fellow Christians to bring forth Breyers and Thorns. To say I love my brother believers, then you don’t want them to waste their life.
Then you don’t want to do anything in your life that would cause them not to be found faithful. That’s why you have to be careful that you don’t just say and do things and treat them any way you want to and discourage them and put them down and so humiliate or criticize and we mean what are you doing? You’re trying to destroy the Christian or you want to help the Christian. Me serving God is trying to help those who are not maybe walking with God as they ought to.
We should want every one of God’s children to serve the Lord. Why? Because when they get to heaven, don’t you want them to have the best they could have, the most they could have in my whole Christian life. I have tried to win people that I cured and I want to try to challenge people to serve the Lord. But you know when we get to heaven and God’s gonna hand out His rewards out of all the people that I have influenced in 55 years.
I want my wife to stand there and get more than anybody else that I’ve ever had because I think she deserves more. Then this is my personal opinion because she has worked just as hard in the ministry that I have worked. She does just as much. Do you realize if it wasn’t for her and doing right I couldn’t have a ministry? She could ruin my ministry. Yes or no? And I remember sitting down talking to some men and they set their end.
They cried. I mean, ball swabs. He said, because I wanted to be a preacher, but because of my wife, I can’t. And his wife knew it. And she would not yield. She would not yield. She said, I will not. God may call you, but He hasn’t called me. She didn’t understand that when God calls the man, He calls the woman. too. You see some of them have their own career. There’s the man and then they got their career. Wait a minute.
The goal is whatever the husband wants to do, you do this and you put that first. Otherwise you won’t have a man, you’ll have a mouse. But to help that man be the man that God wants. And to help him to be a success, if he is a success, you are a success. If he is a failure, it could mean you You might be a failure. I don’t know. I’m just trying to help you to understand how important it is to put God first in everything that we do.
You should want your husband. You should want your wife. You should want your kids. That when they get to heaven, they get all that God wants for them. Do you want them to get nothing? Or don’t you want them to get something? For all eternity. So that’s why we got to be careful about whether we turn them on. My little granddaughter here. My grandparents are cool. Cool. I remember when training came down with them and they always talked about it.
And the kids would say, oh, that’s cool. Cool. It wasn’t cool. It was cool. It was like a three letter, you know, some of the words, cool. It’s a cool. And it was over there in India and you asked them a question. They go, yeah. Show them how to do that, Bob. Stand up here and show them how to do that. This is how you say yes in India.
Oh, Benny does it better. You wanna do it? Ha ha ha. It is so funny. And I says, in America, when we say yes, we go like this. And when we say no, we go like this. And I said, do you understand what I’m saying? Ha ha. Close your mind. You don’t know, taking your order. I want two eggs scrambled with mushrooms and wheat toast. You got that? You know what dad called up? I said, we had to have our breakfast in our room.
I call him up and said, we want two oatmeal. So that morning we got our two hot milks. Sometimes you think we’re not communicating and they don’t call it, they call it porridge. Porridge. And I didn’t know it was porridge. I like oatmeal. I always eat my oatmeal. But to remember this, the Lord is coming. Look in verse 25 where it says, not forsaken the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some, so there were people who were no longer coming to church, no longer faithful, they stopped.
Did you know that’s one of the biggest things you can have happen to you? Just say, for example, you used to come on a Sunday morning, in Sunday night, maybe Wednesday night. And now after Washi, we’re getting older well, and I’m tired, so then you stop coming on Sunday night or just start coming on Wednesday night. next thing you would stop coming on Sunday morning. For Sunday morning, you stop on church. See, you’re just one by one because it’s an effort.
But what we are looking at is, does my attendance or absence is that encouraging others to be faithful or to quit? Always think, don’t think about yourself. You think about yourself, you only do what I wanna do. But think further, we’re gonna answer to God for what we do. and the impact we make in other people’s lives. Am I encouraging people by my faithfulness or lack of faithfulness? What am I causing people to think or to do? Now, when you get to where you can’t go, that’s one thing, you know that.
But I’m just talking about don’t be slothful, means don’t just be lazy. I just don’t want to. Well, maybe the preacher doesn’t want to either. You know, there were other things that I was doing before I came here. But when I commit it to take the job, I take the job. And I wanna try to be as faithful as I possibly can to everything that I’m supposed to do. And sometimes I do a good job, sometime I don’t. But I’m glad that the Lord is the righteous judge and He’s the one that’s gonna judge us and remember this.
Even he doesn’t judge until you’re there. So don’t judge too harshly. Be kind. And I wanted to see the last part of that. Even so much more as you see the day approaching. And I believe that day is the Lord is coming back. The Lord is coming back. Always keep that in your mind because some people receive the promises in their lifetime. But it all depends on what he promised. There’s others who are going to have to wait until they leave this world.
and then God has some more promise. He promised that the kingdom would be upon this earth. I believe that it’s coming. I believe that everything God promised about Israel will take place. We are really living in some exciting, exciting days if you’re just watching the news. But if I was to get on prophecy and what’s going on in Israel, there wouldn’t be any other subject and I would stop teaching you about a lot of other things. You can’t have that dominate and I cannot have hobby horses.
Well that’s all I write. I write the scriptures. As Paul says, I wanted to clear unto you all the scriptures. Not write one little hobby horse here, one little hobby horse there, and that’s all I’m… No, no, no. There’s a lot of things in God’s Word. If the Lord doesn’t come back anytime soon and they don’t have a peace tree made over there, don’t worry about it. Just do what you and I are supposed to do. You’ll have your hands full enough right there.
Look up here. Letting this hand represent you and me and the wallet represents sin. God loves us. Hate’s our sin, but he loves us. I think that’s so important for people to know that God loves them. But it hates our sin because it separates us from the Lord and the wages of sin is death. Since we’ve all sinned, we’re all condemned. And God says to go to heaven, we have to be perfect and none of us are perfect. And God says, by your works, you’ll never be perfect.
And that’s why he says, by the law, or the works of the law shall no man be made perfect. That’s in Hebrews in chapter 7. But the Bible says there is a way, and that is Jesus Christ, who’s God’s son came into this world who had no sin, didn’t have to die. But because he loved us, he took our sin. Patriot on the cross came back from the dead and said, if we would believe that he did it for us, he would put that payment to our account and we go to heaven on what Jesus Christ did for us.
You’re saved by grace means you did not earn it, you did not work, but you did not deserve it. It’s the best news in all the world. I pray that all of you have trusted Christ as Savior, and if someone is watching by internet, I pray that they would understand and put their complete compliments and trust in the Lord. Let’s pray, shall we? With head bow and eyes closed, no one looking around. If you have never trusted Christ as your Savior, right now in the quietness of this moment would you just talk to the Lord and say, Lord, I don’t understand at all, but I know my center, and I will accept Jesus Christ right now as my only hope of going to heaven.
If you’ve never done it and you will do it right now, would you just raise your hand so that we could have prayer for you? Do you hear what it is all? If you’re watching by internet and you’ve never trusted the Lord, right there on the screen says, yes, I will accept Christ as my Savior. We’d love to know. Just click it. It just lets us know that someone trusted Christ as Savior. We won’t know who you are. Father, we thank You again for Your blessings to us and help us Lord as we live our lives.
There’s so much going on, so much stress, so many problems, so much afflictions, but help us to be found faithful. We’ll believe that it was going to be worth it, to believe Your promises for here and also for later. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
