Take your Bible and turn to the gospel of John, the gospel of John, And we’ll just kind of see where this is going to go. There is a brief little story here in chapter 8, verse 1, talking about a woman taking an adultery. And at the end of it, it says, go and send no more. So the question is, did he tell this woman to go and send no more? So is it possible to not send any more? That’s what he told her, go and send no more.

So I guess it must be to live a life without sinning. Now I remember one time I almost got in a fight with the guy. I had just trust the Lord and he says, so you’re saved. Yes, I’m saved. Well, do you still sin? I said, yes, I do. And he says, and you’re not saved. I said, yes, I am. He says, no, you’re not. I said, yes, I am. He says, no, you’re not. I said, yes, I am.

So anyway, had a hard time trying to figure this thing out, you know, well, if you’re a real Christian, you’re not going to want to go here and do these bad things. I knew I’d trust the Lord and I still wasn’t that smooth. You know, you still have a few little bad hang-ups here and there. But anyway, what I want you to see is something about this section of scripture and see if we can solve a difficult problem. So he says there in verse 1, Jesus went into the Mount of Olives and early in the morning he came again into the temple and all the people came unto him and he sat down and taught them and described in the Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery.

And when they had set her in the mist, they said unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery in the very act of often wondered, well, where’s the man? Unless she was committing adultery, y’all by herself. But there should have been a man involved and where was he? So we don’t know if this is them telling the truth or just setting it up, anyway, he said it. And verse 5, now Moses, so this was a trick, it was a setup, you know, like people try to get out, I got you these politicians, you know, they interviewed them and they try to get them on something.

And so he says, now Moses in the law commanded us that such should be stoned, but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down with his finger, wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. When they had continued asking him, he lifted himself up and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. So it was a very simple little thing.

Moses said, we’re called the stoner. He said, okay, that don’t have a sin, you cast a first stone. Okay? And nobody BELOW a stone. And he was ruling back down and started writing again in verse 8. Verseimentary, verse 9, and they which heard it, being convicted by their”” conscience went out one byancel beginning at the discl, even unto the last. ACTIONS And Jesus was left alone and the woman standing the mist. Jesus lifted up Himself and saw none but the woman and He said unto her, woman, where are those dina-cusers?

Half no man condemned thee because everything had to be established according to the law in the mouth of two or more witnesses. Oh, where’s the witnesses? No witnesses. Everybody left. She says, no man, Lord, and Jesus said unto her, neither do I condemn thee. Go and send no more. So you got to admit the Bible says, going to send no more. Now, is he talking about don’t go and commit that send anymore or don’t commit any sends anymore or…

Like some people say, well, if you’re really saved, you’re not going to want to. Well, then why did he tell or not to? If you’re not going to want to, you wouldn’t have to tell somebody not to. So take your Bible look in John chapter 5 and verse 14. John chapter 5, it knows in verse 14. There was another situation where a person was at the pool and they got healed. And next thing you know, he was jumping up and down and…

having a great time. And so he says, nobody will help me and the water gets trouble and I can’t get into the water. So Jesus said to verse 8, rise, take your bed and walk. So he did. Immediately. He got up and started walking. But there was some Jews there and they wanted to know, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What doctor did this? Have you in the hospital who performed this miracle on you. He said, I don’t know.

I don’t know who was, but he made the statement down here in verse 14, afterwards Jesus, finding him in the temple, sudden to him, behold thou art made whole, sin no more, less a worse thing come upon thee. Now, if the woman was guilty, or wasn’t guilty, whatever, don’t do it again, unless something worse come upon you. So I don’t believe he’s telling them you can’t sin because that’s contrary to other scriptures. But it does say that when you are shown a little mercy by the Lord, you need to be thankful for that because you could fall in the future and it be bad on you because God may have to chase and then judge you.

And He can have a choice. Remember, we can choose to sin. Whatever sin you want to do, you can choose what you ever sin you want to do. And God is free to choose whatever corrective measure He want to use. And He says, some are sick, some are weak, and some are dead. So He can take you home. So can you live as you please? Yes. Can you live as you please and get away with it? No. There’s consequences to our decisions.

Take your Bible and turn over there to the book of 1 John chapter 2, 1 John and chapter 2. And you’ll notice that there’s another verse that seems to say, but it’s written by John, the one that wrote the Gospel of John. And he also says this in verse one. So he’s talking to his children and he says, these things right eye unto you that you send not. And if any man sin, so it’s like requesting that you don’t.

And the sin is walking in the flesh or walking in the spirit. So a Christian is supposed to walk in the spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh. You will always have the lust of the flesh because it’s in your body. He saved your soul but he didn’t do anything with the body and your lust of the flesh is in the physical body. So whenever the physical body dies you will be rid of that old man, that old sinful nature and you won’t have to worry about it anymore.

But until we get to heaven we’ve got to drag this old dead man around with us and kind of like chained to us. And so he says that your sin not, and if any man does sin, well we have a lawyer who is better than Perry Mason, he never lost a case. So he says we have an advocate with the Father Jesus Christ the righteous. That’s why he says up in verse 9 of the previous chapter, if we confess our sin.

So that means that Christians do sin after they’re saved. You say, oh, I didn’t never sinned. Lire, lire, pants on fire. Everybody sins. Everybody does things wrong. And then after you trust Christ’s Savior, people still sin. But now, see, you’re not talking about the penalty of sin, which is separation from God in hell. That’s been forever given and can never be brought against you. But when you talk about the fellowship that you have between you and the Lord. See, there’s an issue there.

It’s like having a child, the child born into your family. No, I’ve had people say, well, you can’t tell me that you can just trust Christ as your Savior and live like you please. Okay, I can’t tell you that. If I can’t tell you that, God can’t either because God’s what He told me that. Now, what if you’re going to have a child and somebody told you, you’re trying to tell me you’re going to bring a child into this world and let them live as they please.

You tell them to tell me you can have a child and they’ll live as they please. Well, don’t most people live as they please? But you try to teach the child to do right because the consequences are better. But if they don’t, then they need to know the consequences are bad. It would help people to make better decisions if they know there’s consequences to their decisions. And so he says here in verse eight, I want you to see verse eight of chapter one, if we say we have no sin or no sinful nature, we have no sin.

then he says we deceive ourselves. So you’re a Christian, you have eternal life, don’t deceive yourself and think, well I don’t have a sinful nature, now I won’t say it anymore. Yes you do have a sinful nature and yes you will. You see you don’t always do everything you’re supposed to do. Christian stumble, we make a lot of mistakes, we do a lot of things that we shouldn’t do. We think a lot of things we shouldn’t think. And as we just read, some people commit adultery.

Now I want you to take your Bible and turn all the way back there to the book of Proverbs, the book of Proverbs. Look in Proverbs. Proverbs chapter three, and understand that your wonderful, loving, heavenly Father has a surprise for you. He is full of surprises. You really don’t know what the future holds. Don’t you love Christmas time when you get presents? Don’t you John?

And you don’t know what you’re going to get, but you hope somebody will get you something, right? At least somebody will get me something. Well, we love surprises. That’s why God doesn’t tell us every day in advance what’s going to happen tomorrow. It would ruin the excitement of tomorrow. So every day is filled with surprises. And you don’t know what’s going to happen. Good things are bad things, but with a child of God. I don’t know if there’s any real bad things because God uses all things for our benefit.

And when He says, count it all joy when you fall in the divers temptation, count it all joy. I got sick. Man am I glad. I lost my job. Did you hear the good news? I Don’t have a penny to my name. Is that exciting? You say you’re nuts Well, it all depends on your perspective We say we believe the Bible going Did you know that God’s gonna test you see whether or not you really do? Does the Lord say that whenever we give we should give cheerfully?

Huh? Don’t they say we ought to give cheerfully? You heard that but you don’t really believe that do you? The offering plate comes by Let’s see. I got a quarter Got a dime. I got a penny Give the penny Oh, that’s Gradually I did that. Oh But the Bible says give joyfully cheerfully YAHOO! They’re wonderful. I can give yay! But do you really believe that though? You know, the Bible, we’re not supposed to take it seriously. You know, it’s just full of stories and tales.

But look what he says here. Proverbs chapter 3, look in verse 5, so shall thou find favor and good understand in the sight of God and man. And he says, trust in the Lord. All line heart, lean not until I know and understanding, because the tendency of man is to trust his own judgment, trust his own knowledge, trust his own wisdom, and trust his own decisions and go in his own way. And God says, slow down a little bit.

This is why we need patience. God does a lot of things to us to slow us down. So what God does is in your life, God gives you speed bumps to slow you down a little bit, give you time to think. Otherwise we’d be racing through all the time and God said you need to slow down just a little bit. But anyway, looking for six, and all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths. That means acknowledge him means to thank God.

all of your ways, thank God. Think about the Lord and everything that you got to do in all of your ways. Acknowledge Him. He will direct your path. And then He says in verse 7, be not wise and dine on eyes. Fear the Lord, depart from evil. So does God want His children to depart from evil? Yes. Does He want us to live right? Yes, He does. Now look what He says down here in verse 11. verse 11. My son, and this is found also in the New Testament, the book of Hebrews in chapter 12, where he says, my son despised not the chastening of the Lord, neither be weary of his correction.

Because sometimes we get weary of the Lord always on us. Did you ever like it when your mom or your dad just stayed on you, just sitting like they never get off your back? You know the best way to get your parents off your back is straighten up. You know that’s pretty good. Most of them just want you to straighten up and fly right, do right, and you won’t do it, so they got to beat you half the death put all the restrictions on you.

See, it’s easy for parents to trust an obedient child, but difficult when the child is not obedient. So don’t be grudged God, the time that he needs to train you. God must discipline his children. And so, aren’t you God’s child? Well, when you have children coming in the world, don’t you try to discipline a little bit. So then I shut up. Why? I said so. All right, you can do it sweetly and nicely, but sometimes being sweet and I don’t work.

And just like with the Lord, sometimes he tells you, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. I said, sit down. And so God is gonna work in your life. Why does he do that? Because he loves you. God didn’t get up this morning with a hangover. He didn’t get up this morning feeling bad. He didn’t get up and look over the banner serve heaven, and said, well, I got it in for you. I’m gonna get you today.

The Lord doesn’t do that. He is a wonderful, loving Father, but He doesn’t like disobedience and He don’t like His children going their own way. He don’t like it when His children get too big for their britches. So your wonderful, loving, heavenly Father has a ways and means committing. And so He says here in verse 12, “‘For whom the Lord loved, He beats the daylights out of.” No, He corrects. He’s always trying to guide you. Have you ever seen years ago, I’ve seen them, but I’ve never played one.

These are little things where you pull a thing, you’ve got to put a quarter in or something. And a little ball still ball goes running up in there and it hits lights and it hits this thing and then you’re punching buttons all over the place and trying to get it to go where you want it to go. And then they bump the thing and they hit the thing. That’s one of the things you understand. But they beat it half to death because they’re trying to get that steel ball in a certain spot, right?

Anybody ever seen those? All right, see God wants to get you in a certain place. So he’s knocking it and flipping it and bumping it. And so God sends people into your life to bump you a little bit. You’re too far that way and he bumps you this way. He bumps you that way. And he puts a road blocking your way in a speed bump in your way to slow you down, get you the right place at the right time.

Because he’s got this window in heaven. He wants to pull that little thing. And he wants to pour out his blessings upon you. but he got to get you in the right spot. You see the windows right here, but you’re over there. So God’s got to get you here. So God is going to work in your life. It’s because he loves you and he’s got something for you. God got some good stuff for his children if we were just letting do what daddy’s do.

And he loves us. Now, notice what he says there in the last part of verse 12, even as they father the son in whom he delights. God wants us to delight ourselves in the Lord, and God wants to delight in us. And in notice what he says in verse 13, happy is the man that finds it the wisdom and the man that get it understanding. Now wisdom and understanding here is not a real woman, but later on you’ll see that he does talk about a woman.

Talk about two kinds of women. So you see in Proverbs written by a man that knew all about women. He had about 700 wives and 300 concubines. So if there’s anybody that could write a book about women, Solomon should be the man, right? Well, God used him to say, you need some wisdom. And he says obey the law of thy mother. And he tells us to seek wisdom as though you would search for gold and silver so that you can find these things.

And he said if you could find this wisdom, He says in verse 14, the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver and the gain thereof than fine gold. In other words, if you had silver and gold and God had wisdom, which would you choose? Oh, this is difficult. I mean, if I have money I can get whatever I want. But if I have wisdom, I need that to know how to spend this. Now, some things are hard to decide in life, aren’t they?

But notice what he says what you can get with wisdom. That you can’t get with the other. See there in verse 15, she wisdom is more precious than rubies. And all the things thou can’t desire are not to be compared under her. So which is the best the wisdom of God. So God has designed life to let you know you don’t know at all. You don’t have all the answers. You can’t solve everything. We are always children in need.

We need something. We’re always needing something. And so God wants to be a person. to give us the wisdom on how to get. Most people want to be happy. They want a productive life. They want a life filled with meaning and purpose. Well, God says, I designed this thing. And if you’ll listen to me, I’ll show you how to get it. So that’s pretty much what he’s done. Now look at chapter 4 of Proverbs and look in verse 7.

Wisdom, he says, is the principal thing. Therefore get wisdom and with all thy getting, get understanding. Exalt her and she shall, and you’re the underlying this word. This is a very important word. She shall promote thee. You want God to exalt you and use you in a great way. You just humble yourself and let God give you his wisdom. Now that takes a humble man to submit to the wisdom of God because most people think I don’t need God.

I don’t I don’t need the Bible, I don’t need church. I don’t need somebody trying to tell me what I can and cannot do or where I can and cannot go and how I should or should not live. I’m smart enough on my own. And so Proverbs has a verse for that. There is a way that same is right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. So yes, God has all this for us and it will promote him.

Now look in chapter five, chapter five. And you’ll notice that in verse 21, for the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord. Do you think God’s watching you? There’s an eye up on how watching you. And he sees everything. He didn’t like my song. There is an eye up on how watching you. Oh, be careful little eyes, what you see. Oh, be careful little hands, what you do. Oh, be careful little feet where you go. There’s a father up above looking down in tender love.

Oh, be careful little hands, eyes, nose, feet. What you do. So, I don’t have time for the whole song. I’ve got to shorten it down. But they are important things. Now look what he says here. In the last part of verse 21, and he pondered all his doings. In the Lord God sees what you’re doing. He knows why you do it. knows where you are. Nobody knows where I am. Oh yeah, the Lord knows who you are. He knows what’s going on in your life.

And then He says this, in verse 22, His own iniquity shall take the wicked Himself, and He shall be holding with the cords of His sins. I had one little thread, can I break it? No problem. Get two of them, three of them, four of them, five. Okay, that’s enough. Now, but regards how many you get sooner or later, you can’t break it. So that’s what happens in a person’s life with making decisions. You know if you make the wrong decision, it’s easier to make the next wrong decision and the next wrong decision.

If you want your wife to think you’re smart, make three smart decisions in a row. It’s very difficult, almost impossible because you see she knows everything and she knows whether it was a right decision or not. So if you have a bad habit in your life, you say what’s the best way to break a habit? Drop it? Don’t that make sense? Drop it. In other words, But how do you get bad habits? Repetition. You keep doing the same thing over and over again and not learning.

Hoping for a different result. And so if you just understand, if you develop the right habits in your life, it becomes easier because they are harder to break. You get in the habit of serving God and doing the right things, it becomes easier. Didn’t the Lord say, Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy, laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me for I am meek and lowly and hard.

So you see, it’s easy. It’s a light yoke. My yoke is easy. My burden of light. It’s hard because you haven’t been doing the right things long enough. Just get in the right habit of doing the right things and you’ll be surprised what it will do for you. for you. Otherwise, as it says in the last part of verse 23, you’re going to go astray. You’re going to go astray. Now look in chapter 6. I want to show you this in chapter 6.

You have here a… Chapter 7 about a strange woman, you see there in chapter 7, just look at it very quickly, it says in verse 5, that they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flatterth with their words. Another part that talks about be careful which catches you with her eyes. So if there’s anybody new women, it was Solomon. and telling you, but there is a comparison between the wisdom of the world and the wisdom of God.

God compares the wisdom of God as a wonderful, wonderful woman who will serve you well and do right by you. He compares the wisdom of the world as the strange woman who’s going to do you in. So as a child of God, you’re trying to decide between human wisdom and divine wisdom. And if you will do what God wants you to do, you’ll love the results of it. And if you don’t, you’re not going to like the results. So he used an illustration of two women.

But he also tells you this is what you need to be aware of. When you try to steal the stolen waters. In other words, you try to refresh yourself with something that you don’t have a right to. Does the Bible say anywhere thou shalt not commit adultery? Anywhere in the Bible? Exodus somewhere like that? Chapter 20 maybe? The Ten Commandments you ever heard of those? Those are not Ten Suggestions. They’re commandments. And sometimes people do things wrong. So in order to help you see that, look in Proverbs chapter 6.

Now in verse 23 gives us the word of God. For the commandment is a lamp and the law is light and reproofs of instruction are the way of life. God has given us His word to show us how to live. Now when we talk about how to go to heaven, well the word of God tells us all we need to do is trust Christ as our Savior. We are to believe that when Christ died, He died for us. He paid for our sins.

Why? Because He didn’t want us to pay for them. He paid for our sins and all He wants us to do is believe He did it for us and He will put the payment He made to our account. We go to heaven on what He did. You don’t earn it. You don’t work for it. You can’t buy it. It’s a gift. But when we talk about, well, I’m not in in heaven yet. I still maybe have, I probably got, you know, 40, 50 years to live yet.

I plan on being the oldest man alive. I don’t want to live down here forever. I just want to live long enough to bury the rest of you and then I’ll be ready to go. But you need a preacher that’s got to do your funeral, right? So I’ll be. Are you a new listener to Bibleline? Do you enjoy the teachings of Dr. Arnold?
