Now take your Bible and turn to the book of Colossians chapter 3. There’s a few pages to your right past Philippians, Colossians and chapter 3. Colossians chapter 3 and notice what it says in verse 9. Now you’ll notice that there are some things that God says here. We’ll have to start there in verse 7. It is so important in the which you also walked sometime. When you lived in them, when you were in the old man and you walk as that old man and you brought forth all that old man,’ stuff, now you’re a child of God.
So he says, but now, verse 8, but now, but now, you ought to hunt in the land of that, but now, you also get what he says, put off all these. Anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communications out of your mouth. That means that you can still do all of those things. This is to the Christian. This is to the believer. Did you know that up there when he makes a statement in verse 1 of chapter 3, he said, if he be risen with Christ, what’s the next word?
Seek those things which are above or below that are above. And then he says in verse 2, set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth. in verse 3, 4 ye are what? Well, if you’re dead, when did you die? When did you die? You see that day you trusted Christ as your Savior. He took that old man and he was crucified with Christ. That was put to your account as though you died and you were buried, you paid for all of your sins and you came back from the dead.
Now Now you’re supposed to live your Christian life as though this old man doesn’t exist. And you don’t live your life satisfying that old man, that old sinful nature. Now you live in this body. The body still has to have food to eat. So you’ve got to have some food. And you need some clothes. Nobody wants to run around naked. You need a place to live. So there’s certain things to take care of this house in which we live.
But is the, this new birth also lives in this same body. But this old sinful nature is also in my flesh. And that’s why one of these days this body is going to die and they will never have to ever worry about this old sinful nature ever again. So when this body is buried to be with Christ, which is far better. So here in the book of Colossians he brings this out and he says down here in verse 9, lied not one to another, seeing that you have put off the, see those two words?
The old man with his deeds. So evidently it is true that God does not want you and I to live the way we used to live. You can. Do you realize that old sinful nature that you have? You are capable of living just like a lost man, because he has the same nature you have. He has an old sinful nature. So do you. You see, it’s that when you get to heaven, the only one that’s going to be in heaven is not this one.
This was in your body, in your flesh, and it dies. This new birth born of God, God doesn’t have a sinful nature. So this one can’t sin. They can’t sin. Can’t die. this new birth is born of God and lives forever. And so to be absent from the flesh is to be present with the Lord. So this is why these things are so important for a Christian to realize, That’s still in my flesh. And so he says here in verse 10, and have, get this, in verse eight you put off and in verse 10 you put on.
You put on what? The new man, which is, get this renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. This is talking about now that you have trusted Christ the Savior. You’re to renew yourself in the knowledge of God’s Word. That’s why he says about in your mind, be renewed in your mind. And remember when he makes a statement in the book of Romans in chapter 12, and talks about once you’ve trusted him as your Savior and your God’s child, and God doesn’t want us to be like the world.
So he says, don’t allow yourself to be conformed to this world. But be you transformed by the renewing of your mind. That you may prove or discover what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. It all depends. Do you want the perfect will of God for your life? If you do, you can have it. You don’t. You don’t have to have it. walk in the flesh, live like the devil, and there’ll be a child of God.
You’ll still go to heaven to die. But look what you’ve done to your life. You’ve wasted your life. This time that God’s given us to live. So that’s why he says here in verse 12, put on, therefore as the elect of God of the chosen of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, maintenance, long suffering, for bearing one another, forgiving one another. If any man have a quarrel against any, even as Christ forgave you, also forgive you them and so forth.
All these things that God tells us to do. You see, you can. This one, you can’t. So there’s things that God lets us know. These are signs of the flesh, and these are signs of the Spirit control in your life. You and I can decide which one we want. We can be obedient or disobedient. And so you’ve got a choice to make. But understand it, in order to do this, he tells us the key. See there in verse 16, let the word of Christ dwelling you richly in all wisdom, pecan and admonishing one another in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus and so forth. And then it talks about the wives. It talks about the husband talks about the kids talks about the father talks about the servants and in verse 23 whatsoever you do. Do it hardly is to the Lord and not unto men knowing because you got to know this knowing that of the Lord you shall receive not salvation reward of the inheritance for you serve the Lord Christ.
See, rewards is the result of your service. Salvation going to heaven is free. That’s the gift. See, I’m going to heaven because of what He did for me. Rewards are what I did for Him. So after you trust the Christ’s Savior, what is the will of God for your life? Now take your Bible and look in 2 Corinthians chapter 5. 2 Corinthians chapter 5. Second Corinthians chapter 5, look there in verse 14. Verse 14. And you’ll notice in verse 14 it says, for the love of Christ constraineth us.
Means challenges us, motivates us. And here’s why, because we thus judge. If one died for all, then we’re all dead. And that he died for all that they which live, because not everybody lives just because He paid for everybody’s sins. But those who trust Christ as Savior, they give an eternal life. Get these next words, should not henceforth. That means after you’ve been saved, should not henceforth from now on, live unto who? Onto themselves. But, get what He says.
Onto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again. So we are supposed to live for the one who died for us because the verse 14, the love of Christ constraineth that motivates us. See, I don’t have any power over you. I don’t have none. I can’t make you do anything and you can’t make me do anything. But we’re supposed to encourage each other to do right and to provoke one another and the love. So this provoking and this challenging exhorting we’re supposed to because we care about each other.
So your faith on this affects others. Your unfaithfulness affects people. So that’s why you want to do what’s right because that is the will of God. Now I want you to turn to 1 Corinthians chapter 15. Just turn to the left there a couple pages. 1 Corinthians chapter 15. And you’ll understand these differences on these two individuals. In verse 22, for as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Now look up here. All in Adam, that’s born of the flesh.
I’ve got to die. And all that are born in Christ. That’s more than the Spirit. Shall live. So you have these two things. One, this first birth, we’re all going to die. And this is what’s happening to some of us. Well, not us yet, but those that we know. But we also know that we have eternal life. And so this one will never die. And that’s why Christ made the statement in John chapter 11. He said, if a man believes in me, he shall never die.
And if he die, yet shall he live. He said, believe it’s in me shall never die. But if he die, yet shall he live. So when you understand these two verse, you can understand a lot more scripture because everything has to perfectly dovetail. Vic clashes, contradicts, you got a problem. Scripture has to fit and the Bible does not contradict itself. So he says here, this is what’s going to take place. All, you see that word. Now look there in verse 45.
1 Corinthians chapter 15 and verse 45. And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul. Last Adam was made a quickening spirit. All right, Adam in this world, a living soul, children, they all die. And that’s why if two people get married today and they have a child, eventually, they’re all going to die. All of our fruit is going to die. But when you trust Christ as your Savior, He is a quickening spirit. Gives you life, and this has no sinful nature.
So when Christ says you must be born again, He means born without a sinful nature. And the only way you can be born without a sinful nature is to be born of God. That’s why the word God, which is the incorruptible world of God, when you hear the word of God and you believe, he that hereth my word and believeth on him that he hath everlasting life, this book is an incorruptible seed that when you hear it and it germinates, it creates eternal life, lives forever.
And you have a new birth because of the seed. That’s why he says in the book of Peter, he says, being born, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible by the word of God that liveth and abideth forever. So this one lives and abides forever. This is the second. There is the first. So he says this one is first flesh and spirit that’s that’s second. First was Adam and then second was Christ. So everybody born in Adam’s family dies and everybody born in Christ’s family lives forever.
Hope you can see understand the difference. This is why in the book of Romans in chapter 9, he talks about the issue of before children were born and did any good or did any bad. He said, God had already chosen how He’s going to save an individual and He makes a statement. Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated but many people get a little bit out of shape on that but just understand this. Remember when Rebecca was going to have these two kids, Esau was born first, Jacob was born second.
Esau represents the first birth, was first, Jacob is the second one. So therefore you have Esau, Jacob, he came first, Esau, Jacob second. God hates this old sinful nature, he hates the flesh, He doesn’t hate the people. He so loved the world. He died from the people, but He hates this sinful nature that dwells within us. So look what He says here in verse 47. The first man is of the earth. That was Adam. And the second man is the Lord from heaven.
That’s So these two individuals represents two families with different results. Adam all died, Christ all lived. And so this is what is going to take place and this is why God explains it this way. Now take it by looking Romans, Romans in chapter 7. Romans chapter 7. Now, for example, it’s a pitiful example, but I’ll use it anyway. And there’s no people up here. I’ve done it different times with chairs and people and all kind of things. But I remember the first time I came here, I had a little black baby dog.
And that was, you might remember the name of the Mike Tyson. Who said that? Somebody remembers. It was Mike Tyson. But anyway, here you have in these scriptures a war going on, a battle. And you pitch over here this old sinful nature and he’s bad. And then you have the new birth and well, it’s good. So you have both of these living within you. And so therefore Paul had the struggle going on in his life. So you look there in verse 15.
Now this is about 25 years after Paul had been saved. So he still had to struggle, but he had learned a lesson probably years before, but he says in verse 15, for that which I do, I allow not. In other words, I don’t want to do it. I didn’t want to give myself permission to do it, but I did it. So look up here. When I want to do good, evil is present with me. And sometimes I do those things that I don’t want to do.
Anybody like that here? You want to do right, but then you do wrong. So he says here in verse 16, if then I do that, which I would not, I can send them the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but send that dwell up in me. Look over here. Then there is no more I, this I, that do it. But send that dwell up in me. I got two births. It could drive you nuts.
And so you got this battle going back and forth. And the flesh lust against the spirit, spirit against the flesh so that you can’t do the things that you really want to do. You’re always struggling in your life. Wouldn’t you like to live without sinning? Try it. See how you do. Have fun. I met a man one day taking some kids to a camp and they come running after me. We had stopped on Sunshine Park at Sperchway and this man was out there and these kids were witnessing.
You know. And so, they said, you got to come over here. I said, why? He says, there’s a guy over there. He says, he hasn’t sinned in 40 years. So I walked over there and said, these kids, they told me that you haven’t sinned in 40 years. He says, that’s right. I said, you haven’t sinned in 40 years. He says, that’s right. I said, you’re deceived. You’re out of your helmet. And I said, you’re lying through your teeth. And I kept on till I made him some mad.
Now, if he hadn’t sinned in 40 years, he did that day. I just wanted to convince the kids that this man is not telling the truth. You see, you shouldn’t have done that. Maybe not. But there’s something inside of me that just go for it, yank. One day I had the kids was done at Coconut Grove and I run in the youth ministry. So on Sunday afternoon we went down at Coconut Grove Park and we have some kids out there and those probably witnessed them.
And they come running up to me. So Yiggy, Yiggy, there’s a man over that says he’s Jesus. I mean, I’ve done told him and I know the man so I guess I ought to go see him. So I walked over there and he’s walking through the part time like he’s floating I’m slavished jaws. Anyway, he had long hair and he had on the white gown and I walked up to him I says they they told me you said you was Jesus.
He says yes Like honey drew just dripping all her you know I said you you really you really are yes I says how old are you? He said so I 50 something like that I said, Jesus, down in his 33, you got a question for you. I says, what tribe you come from? He said, what tribe you come from?
I said, tribe, you know, I says, they were the 12th son of Jacob, 12 tribes, which tribe you come from? Well, I don’t know. He’s Jesus and he doesn’t love something. I said, he came from the tribe of Judah. I said, by the way, when you put your dress up a little bit, I want to see your feet. And I said, I see your hands. I said, there’s no scars. I said, you’re a liar and a hypocrite. You say, you shouldn’t have said that.
Yes, I should have. He was lying to these kids. I want to show them that he’s lying. So you can say a lot of things and a lot of people want to act so holy, but they’re not holy. I’ve never sinned in 40 years, lying to the teeth. I thought, just let me talk to your wife. He’ll see. Ain’t no way that the married man or the woman would ever, you know, be convinced. My husband has never sinned in 40 years.
You wished. But. I’ll tell the guy, you know, if you’re perfect, if you’re perfect, don’t marry somebody because they won’t be perfect. And if they’re perfect, they shouldn’t marry you. I says, you got to understand, we’re all sinners. And as long as we’re in this body, you have a sinful nature and you’re going to sin. But know what he says in verse 18, For I know that in me that is in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing. Look up here.
For I know that in my flesh dwelleth no good thing. For the will is presently meant that the desire to perform is I don’t know how to do this in verse 19 for the good that I Would I do not but the evil which I would not that I do sound like you I? Want to do good, and then I don’t and I don’t want to do the bad, but I do And you got this battle to hide the world.
Can you win? So he says here in verse 23, but I see another law in my members warring against the law of my mind, bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. This old man, this old man wants to make you a prisoner. He wants to capture your mind and make you a slave of the old sinful nature. You have been set free from it. Don’t voluntarily sell yourself back into the sin. You see what that’s what he means when he says there in verse 14, verse 14, he says, for we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal a fleshly Christian, soul, understand in other words, I soul myself back under the power of this old sinful nature, just so that I could have some of the, you know, the freebies that maybe the flesh is going to give
me, some of the joy and the pleasures of sin. But you sold yourself, that means you become a slave and you can’t do the thing that God wants you to do because you sold yourself and there’s a debt to pay and a price to pay and God’s going to have to chase in his children. Oh, if we would only learn. But then he says this, O wretched man that I am. Look there in verse 24 of him, who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
See, look over Every one of us are living in a body that’s going to die unless the Lord comes back soon and we’re changing a moment, the twinkling of an eye caught up to meet the Lord in the ear. I prefer that. But we’re all living in a body that’s going to die. Who is going to deliver me from this? Well the Lord, see there in verse 25, I think God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
Look up here. With my mind, I have decided I will serve the Lord. With this old sinful nature, it will serve sin. So I am the one that has the choice to make. So that’s why in chapter eight of the book of Romans, it gets into where does this power come from to make this so important decision. and you’ll see that now he starts talking about the power of the Holy Spirit in your life. And we’re going to be talking about that tonight.
Look up here. This hand represents you and me. The wallet represents sin. We all have sin on us. God says that He loves us. He loves you, loves me. Hates our sin because see the pay for sin is death in hell. That’s why the flesh, we’re all guilty, we sin, we’re condemned. We cannot save ourselves. So the Bible says to go to heaven, we have to be perfect because righteous is God. None of us are perfect. None of us are right.
We can’t live forever. This flesh has got to die. And if we’re in this flesh, when we die without the new birth, we’ll spend eternity separated from God. Your decision must be made before you die. This in represents Jesus Christ, God in the flesh. He came into the world because, well, He loves us, hates Breeson. Our sins separates us from Him. So Jesus Christ, who had no sin, didn’t have to die. He took all the sin of all the world.
He died and paid for hours and He died in my place. So He was my representative. He took my, He was my substitute. He took my place and paid for my sins because He didn’t want me to do it. So He comes back from the dead and He said, if I would believe He did it for me, He’ll put this payment to my account. As far as the law is concerned, you are dead. And the law can never touch you because you’re dead.
The law can’t condemn a dead person. So now the law can never condemn you. I can never go to hell because there’s no sense to pay for he paid for all of my sins. I go to heaven because of what Christ did for me. He gives me a new birth. This new birth is born of God, has no sin, cannot die. That’s the best there’s in the world. So you see, you’ve got to be born into the world, the flesh, and then Jesus says, that which is of the flesh, flesh.
You need to be born again, that which is born in the spirit, the different birth. The new birth is not this one converted into something else. It’s a new birth. This is why this one doesn’t become a Christian by sending it to church, by giving money by doing all kind of good deeds, trying to do all that. It’s still the same old flesh. You have to have a new birth. And the new birth comes only by trusting Christ as your Savior.
If you’ve never done this, never trust the Lord, you’re not saved. You’re not a child of God. You will not go to heaven. You will not collect $200. This is why it’s so important for you to trust Christ as your Savior. But if you have trust in Christ as Savior, God says, now from henceforth, This is what I want you to do. You can choose to be obedient or disobedient. But remember this, your destiny, while their heaven or hell, must be decided before you die, before you die.
After you’re dead, there is no more chances, no more choices. It’s over. Let’s pray, shall we? But it has bow nice clothes and no one looking around. If you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior, I wish that you would. I hope that I made It’s simple and clear enough you understand that you can’t save yourself That Christ died he paid for your sins. Would you trust him? Would you accept him as your savior? If you’re making that decision God said he would save you right now give you eternal life right now.
You become his child right now I’m not gonna have you forward and I’ll get embarrassed him not gonna Hurt you in any way But I’m gonna ask you in just a moment to raise your hand raising your hand just let me know that What I said made sense to you and you said pre to that made sense to me and I will accept Jesus Christ as my Savior and I like you to pray for me. Is there any one at all?
Just slip it up very quickly. Just slip your hand up very quickly. Yes, God bless you, sir. You can put it down. Anyone else. Just slip it up, put it right back down. Anyone else. If you trust Christ right now, He saves you right now, gives you eternal life right now. When you get up to leave, you can say, I know I have eternal life. I know I’m going to heaven when I die. other others, right before we close.
Our Father, we thank You so much for making it so clear and easy in Your Word to understand. And I pray, Lord, You will be done in the lives of each person here. For the one that just trusted Your Savior, that You’ve given Me eternal life, He becomes Your child for all eternity. And Father, for these that have known You for a while, that they can see that henceforth there’s things You want them to do. You said in Your Word how You want them to live.
Not to get to heaven, but because you’re going to reward them when they get to heaven. You want them to grow strong. You want them to know, to understand, to see and to be used. So bless each one.
