Now, you go down through the eighth chapter and you wind up with some mighty wonderful verses, and I just want you to see this. Look there in verse 28. Many people claim this is their favorite verse in the Bible. Well, that’s wonderful. In this verse, I don’t believe it’s just limited to the things that happened to me in my life, which it can. All things work together for good to them that love the Lord, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Good verse. So that means that everything that happens in my life is supposed to be good. No, it doesn’t mean it’s good. It can work together with other things in my life to help me to grow and to sanctify my life. In other words, things to cut off out of my life and things to put into my life. So he says to the Christian, put off the old man, put on the new man. In other words, live like a new man.
Live like the child of God, you are. So he says here, and we know that all things work together for good to them, that love God to them, who are the called according to his purpose. These words, all things. In verse 31 says, what shall we say to these things? So there’s a possibility that these, all these things that work together for our good are the things that God has mentioned here. And when you go to the book of 2 Corinthians chapter 5, when it says, if any man be in Christ, he’s a new creation.
old things, passed away, all things become new. That means the old man and the new man. There’s new things that God has for the believer in these new things. So when he says here in verse 28, all things work together, could reference, and you can see it and understand the foreknowledge of God is a good thing. And the predestination is a good thing. The election is a good thing. All these things that we didn’t understand before, God is not gonna break them down and explain them to us.
That’s why you have chapter nine, chapter 10, chapter 11, talking about the foreknowledge of God, what God knew beforehand and how God chooses and how God predetermined. All these things are explained and they’re good for us to know and understand. but understand in this. He says down in verse 35, who shall separate us to let you know that you can never be separated from the love of God and the love of God, God’s in his love, God’s in Christ.
You can never be separated from Christ. You’ll always be with him. He said, I’ll never leave you and never forsake you. True? So that means once you, his child, you’re always his child and that regardless of what happens in this life, nothing can ever separate you from God. There’s no condemnation to those that are in Christ. So you can never be condemned again. Because you see, you’re dead to the law. The law cannot condemn a dead man. So the law has no power over a dead man.
You were crucified. You are a dead man. That’s why you can never be condemned in the future. See, once you’re his child, you’re his child forever. Now God wants us to serve him, But if we don’t, God may have to chasten us. But look what he says here in verse 29. He says, for whom he did for no. This could be maybe the things that he’s talking about, but he says for whom he did for no, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the first born of a many brethren.
Moreover, whom he did predestinate, then he also called and whom he called, then he also justified and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we say unto these things if God be forced who can be against us? He that spared not his own son but delivered him up. For us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Now, God has done many wonderful things for us in laying out the plan of salvation.
And so God has foreknowledge. He means he knows what’s going to happen before it takes place. That doesn’t determine what happens. That just means he knows what will happen. God may know that tomorrow you’re going to have a car wreck, but that didn’t mean God made it happen. He may know what’s going to happen and not determine it. Predestination is determining what’s going to take place. Predestination is always about the security of the believer. What God predetermined all those who believe will have eternal life.
They will become his child. They’ll be presented without spot or blemish, holy, under the Lord. That cannot change. These things are good. And when you know them and you love the Lord and you understand this, all these things work together to build you stronger in the Lord. because God has a plan for you and what He wants you to do. So when you get to chapter 9, chapter 9 kind of shows us the compassion of the apostle Paul. And chapter 10 talks about Paul’s confession about let a man hear the gospel because somebody with a mouth confesses the gospel and that’s important.
And in chapter 11 he talks about the choice. So we have the compassion for souls and we have the confession to tell and we have a choice of the message that we deliver. Now chapter 9 talks a lot about the desire that Paul had. Paul says some things that are pretty hard for me to understand when he says in verse 2 of chapter 9 that I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were a curse from Christ for my brother and my kidsmen according to the flesh.
He wanted his people to believe on Christ so bad that if it were possible he would be willing to be separated from God. He had just said it’s impossible to be separated from the love of Christ. Now he’s saying to be separated because he know it’s impossible. But he cared about people so much he had this compassion, this burning in him. And even in chapter 10 when he starts up, brother, my heart is ironed prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved.
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God but not according to knowledge. For they have been ignorant of God’s salvation. God’s righteousness are going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of Christ. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believes. So it lays out his burden that he has and his compassion that he wanted to reach people. And he knew because he says up there in verse 11 of chapter 9, the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election, how God chooses.
We talked about this last week. So God has decided He is going to save according to grace, not by works, not by works. Then you go to chapter 10. In chapter 10, we confess with our mouth because God’s already told us what He wants us to do. I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God in the salvation to everyone that believe it. He says, I am a debtor. I am ready to preach the gospel.
So he’s talking about why are you ready to do this? Why are you not ashamed of the gospel of Christ? Well, he’s laying it all out. He’s telling us everything. So much of this hinges from back in Romans chapter one, in verse 16. And so he says here in verse nine, that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth, the Lord Jesus, because how is a person supposed to hear this by the hearing of faith? And shall believe in thine heart that God had raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Now get to, for with the heart man, believeth under righteousness. You get righteousness by believing. Confession is made about the salvation. That’s how people can believe on Christ if somebody has to confess Christ. So Paul says, I’m not ashamed of the gospel. That’s why I confess it. Why? Because he has a compassion. He cares. And he would go anywhere and they could do anything to him. and he would not stop, he would not quit. So we can get into chapter 11 and chapter 11, let you know what is the choice of the message, the Jews believed in keeping the law for righteousness.
And the Bible says the choice is the election of grace. God chose to save a man by grace, not by works, but they would not believe that. Look what he says there in verse 5 of chapter 11. Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. In other words, the nation may not believe, but there’s individuals who did believe because of the election of choice. It’s an individual thing. Our salvation is not based upon a group conformity.
It’s based upon you and God. Do you believe what Christ did, He did it for you? You can’t get saved and go to heaven because, well, my parents are Christian. Where I was born in a Christian nation that has nothing to do with it. It’s a personal thing, individual thing. And so this is why this is done. But in verse 7, what then Israel hath not obtained that which He seeketh for it. but the election hath obtained it. Those who chose to believe by grace are you saved, they can have it.
But if you believe it’s by your works, you can’t have it. Look there in verse 23. And they also, if they abide not still, an unbelief shall be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. There is a choice, belief or not to believe. And this is why all of this is so very important. Look there in chapter 10. Look in chapter 10 very quickly and notice what he says in verse 30. Verse 30 says, what shall we say then?
That the Gentiles which followed not after righteousness, because they didn’t have the law, have obtained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is a faith. Then he says in verse 31, but Israel which followed after the law of righteousness, have not attained to the law of righteousness. They couldn’t keep the law, but they try to save themselves. Then in verse 32, wherefore because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law, they stumbled at that stumbling stone.
So why were the Jews rejected because they rejected the Savior? Why are the Gentiles been saved because they accepted the Savior? They are of those who believe that salvation is by grace. This was Paul’s choice to preach this message, though he was at one time a Pharisee of the Pharisees of the tribe of Benjamin. I mean, he was high up in the Jews’ religion, but he had the wrong belief. He was strong in Judaism that taught by the law, and he found out it’s all by grace.
So everybody has a choice. If you’re going to witness to anybody. Do you tell them that salvation is free? Or do you tell them they got to clean up their lives and they got to go to church and they got to do this and they got to do that? And that’s the wrong message. The choice is that it’s by grace and grace alone is not by works. There is no other way to get saved. If you tell people they got to go to a church and live a good life and keep the 10 commandments in order to go to heaven, it’s a false message be better off keeping your mouth shut.
If you’re going to preach the gospel, preach the gospel. The good news, we’re all condemned. We can all be justified by faith alone. And then God gives each one of us the Holy Spirit so that we can live the kind of a light that we’re supposed to live. And the reason for all of that is because what God has for us. Look there in chapter 12. In chapter 12, we have the Christian ministry. It’s the various ways in which we can serve the Lord.
Because see, the whole book is laid out and I formed a tissue from being condemned and then saved and how you’re supposed to serve and the scientific education of the Holy Spirit. So you got the Father’s Son, the Holy Spirit. You got all of this. And it’s all laid out in this one big book. Actually, it’s a library on salvation to it finished. finished. I mean, it’s awesome. So here you have in Romans in chapter 12, look in verse 1, I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that you present your bodies and live in the sacri- you didn’t have to do this to get saved.
This is because you are saved. And you and I are supposed to have this compassion that Paul had, the conviction. And so we’re supposed to be committed to this gospel that God has given to us, this gospel that he talked about in Romans in chapter 1 in verse 16. Holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. You talk about service, you’re not talking about salvation. Service is what we’re doing for Him and with Him, salvation is what He did for us, two different things.
Because of what He’s done for us, every child of God ought to love the Lord with all their heart and serve Him. So then you find out He’s got lots of things that he wants his children to do. We don’t all do the same thing, but we should all love each other. We all witness, but we may serve different ways. And this is what he’s talking about. So you get a chance. You read the rest of the book of Romans in chapter 12, and then you get to chapter 13, when does God want me to do this?
When does God want me to begin? Oh, you know, ten years maybe. You see, some people say, you’ve got to give them all this doctrine, And then after they really got grounded, then there’ll be a good soul in her. The best way to be grounded is to start soul winning first. If you go the other way, you’ll never get to soul winning. What will help you grow in the Christian life faster than anything is having the compassion and start soul winning.
Start talking to people about the Lord. Talk to people about the Lord. It was interesting the other day I was getting on the elevator and Betty got on and the kids and this black lady got on and we’re going to the third floor. So on the way up I asked her, I said, can I ask you a question? She said, sure. I said, do you know where you’re going to die? She said, I need to talk to you. So the kids got off and they went and me and Betty and her stood there for a little bit and she said, I just gotta talk to you.
I’ve been thinking about this and it was along that line. So next thing I know, she followed the sword room, we asked her to come down and we went into it And I explained to Gospel, she trusts her, she says, this is what I’ve been looking for. I know there’s something else. She said, I gotta explain this to my family. My family needs what you just said. And she worked there. No, I didn’t know, but that’s a little bit different than what I usually have.
And then you know how kids are. They always want to take and walk. And they wanna go shopping. Oh, I love that. So whenever I go into the store, I go ask them to the counter. I says, where is the grandpa’s chair to sit and wait? And sometimes they have one, and I go sit and I wait, and I wait. And so I went into the one, and they didn’t have a chair. And I hate that. Because I have no desire to go looking at racks, and all the stuff they got.
I don’t care. If I want something, I go into a place. I don’t get what it costs. If that’s the one I want, I get it, and I leave. And I’m done. One store. I saw. A woman can go to 25 stores, and then go back to the first store, by the first thing she ever saw. And they think about all the money they saved, and they just spend out three tanks of gas anyway. I’m saying there’s two ladies that are saying they’re young teenagers, you know.
And I says, there’s nobody else in here. I said to my kids, I said, can I ask you a question? It didn’t take long. I explained to the gospel to both of them. They trust the Christ to say, see, witnessing is something you can do wherever you are. You don’t have to do it in church. You don’t have to get them to walk now. You can be pummeled in gas. You can go anywhere. It’s amazing that the gospel works God’s just looking for somebody to tell it The power of the gospel.
I’m not ashamed of the God. Are you ashamed of the gospel? Are you ashamed of what Christ did for you? Does God have to like pull in teeth to get you to witness to somebody? Or do you look for an opportunity? It’s so everywhere I go I go like this. I don’t see anybody It’s one of the greatest things you’ll ever do in your whole life, knowing that somebody’s destiny has been changed. But you get to Romans in chapter 13, I want you to see this one verse.
Louis, it says in verse 11, now knowing the time that now it is high time to do what? Now. Now, if you read that verse today, it’ll say now. You read that verse tomorrow, what will it say? Now. And if you read that verse next week, what will it say? And if you read, and there is no condemnation to those that are in Christ, if you read that verse today, tomorrow what does that verse say? There is no condemnation.
You read in the week from now it still says the same thing. But now is the only time we have. That’s how important it is. In chapter 14, you’ll find out that God says, don’t cause weaker children of God to stumble. yourself, watch your testimony. You see, these are the results of what you believe. And if you will listen to what God’s Word says and obey what God’s Word says, it can change your life. But it can also change the life of those who watch you.
So you see there in verse 14, I know and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself but to him that esteemeth anything to be unclean, to to Him it is unclean. But if thy brother begreed with thy meat, now walkest out not cheerably, destroy not him with thy meat for whom Christ dies.” In other words, God’s going to hold you and me responsible for the impact we made in other people’s lives that we didn’t take seriously.
It doesn’t matter what I do. No man is an island to himself. And that’s why in verse 12 he says, for then every one of us shall give an account of himself to God. Let us not therefore judge one anymore, but judge this rather. No man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brothers’ way. There’s nothing that you and I should do that would cause somebody to fall. You know, I can do anything I want.
Yeah, maybe you can. Can I get drunk? Is it possible for me to get drunk? It is if I drink, right? If I drink, I can get drunk. Well, don’t I have the right to do whatever I want to do? And I can get drunk. Not the wisest thing, but it’s possible. I can not fight for my rights. No, fight for your responsibilities. Be responsible for what you do. I always hate that little commercial come there to drink responsibly.
No, don’t drink it all. Don’t drink it all. Somebody may follow your example and won’t stop after the first drink. Do right. Chapter 15 talks about being competent to counsel. See in verse 14, I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able also to admonish one another. Admonish one another means competent to counsel. You’re able to take the world of God and tell them why you do, what you do.
Why do you believe what you believe? Can you explain it? Be competent. Be able to do so. Or study God’s Word enough where you can do it. And you’ll be surprised how God will bless you. Now in chapter 16 of Romans, this is where you compliment and warn. Compliment and warn. In verse 1, I commend the to you, Phoebe, our sister, which is a servant of the church, which is that in Charaah. He says that ye receive her in the Lord as become of saints because you are.
Command, recommend, encourage, pray for, and all the way down through here talks about salute, salute, salute. And then he says in verse 17, Now I beseech you brethren, mark them which cause divisions on co-fences contrary to the doctrines which you have learned and joined them. Oh, avoid them. them, avoid them. So you compliment and you warn. As the pastor I’m supposed to feed the flock, but if only fed the flock you’ll get nothing but fat for the kill. If all I did was warn you, then you’d starve the death.
So I got to feed you a little bit and warn you a little bit. I try to tell you, hey, this is good, this is bad. This is right, this is wrong. This is wrong. You can’t make it right. Men with men, women with women, strong can’t make it right. Don’t call it love, call it lust. The Bible will be true. See, I loved them so much I want them to be saved. I want them to go to heaven when they die.
I’m not interested in their little pleasures now and later on they burn in hell. I want people to understand God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believe it in him should not perish but have everlasting life. We all sin alike, but we don’t all like sin. I’ll get that right in a minute. Look up here. This hand represents you and me. The wallet represents sin. We’re all sinners. Remember in Romans, three chapters, how we’re all condemned.
It didn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done, you’re condemned. But then the Bible talks about in chapter four and five and half of chapter three about being justified by faith because you can’t earn it. We’re all condemned. The Bible says God loves us. God hates the sin. And that’s what I’m talking about. I can hate a person’s sin but love the person. That’s what God does for us. He doesn’t love our sin. If you’ve ever had children, you can love your children, but you don’t have to love what they do wrong.
And the Bible says, eternal separation from God in hell. It’s not just a matter of being separated from God, because there’s people that are living today are separated from God having a blast. So being separated from God doesn’t bother them too much. But to be separated from God for all eternity in a literal fire burning hell, that might sparkle of heaven. Now God says to go to heaven, we have to be perfect. As righteous as God, no sin. So that’s why we cannot be justified without sin by our works.
So that’s why he says we needed a Savior. So God says in chapter 3, but God, he is the righteousness of God, came into the world. He did nothing but right. Then no wrong, no sin, didn’t have to die. But he loved us, hates our sin, paid for it on the cross. And when He paid for it on the cross, He came back again from the dead. So His righteousness is offered unto all. But his righteousness is only upon those that believe.
So when you believe it, you’re justified from all sin, from which you cannot be justified by the law of Moses. You could not save yourself. He died, paid for your sins to give you eternal life. And if you trust him, he gives you eternal life, and he’ll never catch you out and never lose you. So when you believe it, the Bible says he gives you eternal life and you can know that you’re going to heaven whenever you die. these things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.
Can you know you have eternal life? Yeah. Even though we were all condemned, now we’re justified by faith. And now because you’ve been justified by faith, God gave you the Holy Spirit to help you to live the kind of a life that God wants you to live that would be pleasing to him. Look what he’d done for you. That’s why he says in Romans in chapter 12, I beseech you, therefore, brother, by the mercies of God, that in view of everything that he’s done for you, you present your body as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And if you yield yourself to the Lord, then there’s things that are going to be in your life that you’re going to like. You’re going to like the results of it. And one of these days, we’re going to leave this whole world. We’re going to be with the Lord in heaven. And you’ll be so glad you let the Holy Spirit give you a holy life. life. Let’s pray, shall we? But here’s a bow and eyes closed, no one looking around.
If you’re watching by the internet, right on the screen is a little statement that says, yes, I will trust Christ as my Savior. If you understand what I’m saying, and right now you’ll trust Christ as your Savior, would you do that for us? I’d like to know. I won’t know who you are, but I’ll know that somebody listened this morning, trust a Christ as Savior. You’re there in the auditorium. If you’ve never trusted Christ as your Savior, would you trust Him right now.
If you’ve never done so, you cannot save yourself. Eternal life is a gift. It’s free. Christ paid for it, offers it to you as a gift. Would you believe it? Would you trust Him? And if you will trust Him as your Savior, He said He would give you the free gift of eternal life. If you trust Him, now He’ll save you now. And I’m going to ask you in just a moment to raise your hand. Not something I can trick you or pin you against the wall afterwards or embarrass you or have you come forward.
It’s over and done with when you make that decision in your own mind between you and the Lord. Raising your hand just lets me know God already knows but I’d like to have prayer for you. So is it inward at all? Say yes that made sense to me and I’ll trust Christ as my Savior and preach I’d like you to remember me in prayer. Would you just slip in up very quickly and put a Arabic down? Daniel at all.
