What’s your turn in your Bible to the book of Galatians and Chapter 1? one, Galatians in chapter one, in order to properly produce the evidence that I need, that there is only one saving gospel, I will be doing some supplemental issues that deals with the gospel according to Abraham, the gospel according to Jesus, the gospel according to John the Baptist and the gospel according to Moses, the gospel according to David before we get into the rest of the lectures.

Because I believe it’s one of the reasons why so many people are so mixed up on the gospel is they believe that there is a possibility that other people have been saved by works, which I believe it’s impossible. impossible for a man to be saved any other way than by grace through faith alone. So when he makes a statement here in Galatians in chapter 1 and verse 6, I marvel that you are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ into another gospel.

The grace of Christ is the gospel because the gospel is grace. And the test of grace is that the gospel has to be forever and it has to be free. If it’s not free and doesn’t last forever, it’s not the gospel. So I want you to take your notes there and just kind of follow along with me because you need to be in defense of the gospel, defending against anything and everybody. Because how you defend the gospel reveals how much you love the Lord.

Because you can’t separate Jesus Christ from the gospel of Christ. Because the gospel of Christ is what tells us what Christ is really like. He is revealed through the gospel, that’s why it’s called the light of the glorious gospel of Christ. And so it’s like seeing a picture year of his face and I want you to look at that. You see there in the book of 2nd Corinthians and chapter 4 and just turned to you left just a couple pages and you’ll notice when he talks about in verse 3, but if our gospel be hid, it’s hid to them that are lost.

The lost needs the gospel and the gospel is a story about what Christ did in order to reach the lost. If we mutilate the gospel, we have mutilated the image of God because only through the story of the gospel can people see what God was like, that He is love, that He does forgive, that He does have compassion and all that. So in verse 3, but if our gospel be here to sit to those that are lost, in whom the God of this world had blinded the minds of them which believe not.

Let’s the light of the glorious gospel of Christ. And you’ll notice I have that in the title on the last few lectures and it’ll be on the one about the next four or five. But like he says, it’s the light of the glorious gospel of Christ who is the image of God. The light of the glorious gospel of Christ who is the image of God should shine unto them. He makes this statement in verse 6, for God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness have shined in our heart to give the light of the gospel or the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

You can’t separate the two. You can separate his face from the gospel. When you mutilate the gospel, you’re mutilating the image of God himself, because that’s how you describe God. We often say, God so loved the world, well how do we know? Because of what he did. And it tells you about what he thinks about you and I. And so that’s why whenever people add works to the gospel, it’s like taking a Rembrandt and then I think I can improve on that.

And I just think they’re supposed to. Don’t that look better? And they’re trying to add to it. You can’t add works to the gospel. If God says it’s free, then it’s free. Now look in your notes. The very first verse here, this mention here is the Galatians in chapter three and verse six, where we have covered before, but even as Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. In other words, Abraham believed what God said in the Old Testament, and God gave Abraham his righteousness.

Now does God give us his righteousness when we believe on Christ? It’s the same requirement. We have to have God’s perfection given to us. And that’s what the new birth does when you’re born of God, you have a new birth. And it’s the way God is intended. Now look at the next statement I have it here in bold. This is God’s righteousness. Been put to Abraham’s account because Abraham believed God. But what did he have to believe? That’s a good question.

What did Abraham have to believe? He had to believe what God said about the seed. Now in Genesis 15, and this is the verse from Genesis chapter 15, and he brought him forth abroad and says, look now toward heaven. Tell the stars, it means count the stars. If they’ll be able to number them, and he said unto him, so shall thy seed be. And he believed in the Lord, and he counted it to him for righteousness. Abraham was going to have a seed who was going to come from his loins on down the road by which God would justify the heathen through faith.

Now we don’t have that story in the book of Genesis 15 where we have that quote that’s found in the book of Galatians in chapter 3 and verse 8 where it says, in God foreseen that God would justify the scripture first and that God would justify the heathen through faith preached before the gospel unto Abraham sin and these shall all families of the earth be blessed. This blessing is justification by faith. God will justify the heathen through faith. Now look here in your notes, Galatians chapter 3 and this is found in verse 16.

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not and do seeds plural as of many, but as of one and to thy seed which is Christ. So the Bible tells us here in the book of Galatians that when God spoke to Abraham in Genesis in chapter 15, he was talking to Abraham about Christ. He was talking to him about Christ. He was the seed by whom the world would be blessed. So God preached the gospel.

Now if He makes a statement in chapter 1 that there is no other gospel then you think that the gospel that God preached to Abraham had to be the same gospel that Christ preach to Paul. That’d be the same gospel. If there is no other gospel, there’s not another one. Then there can only be one gospel. And so I love studying the Scriptures. Now all these notes that I’m giving to you, these are not notes that I got from somebody else.

These are notes because I sit down and I study and I got them and I put them together because they make sense to me. Now look at the next statement there. Am I supposed to believe that Abraham was justified by faith without knowing what he believed? He had to believe something. He had to put his faith in what God said about something. Did not Abraham believe in the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ? I submit he did.

Look at the next scriptures. They’re in Hebrews in chapter 11. Hebrews chapter 11 in verse 17. Now I would recommend that you find these verses in your Bible on your own time. And underline these verses in your Bible or certain words. Or try to put a reference to this one into that one and that one. You can just follow the trail. That’s what I used to do. I’d take and put a mark here and I’d put that scripture reference out of one of the go-tru beside that verse.

Now you go to that verse. Now put the scripture. where I wanted to go to that verse. And then they say, you know, all I got there was remember one verse, the first one. And I get to that one, and I go to that one, and then I go to that one, and then I go to this one. And everybody thinks, man, you got the photographic memory. Ah, you just outsmarted them, that’s all you’re done. So now notice here in chapter 11 and verse 17, that’s what it says about Abraham.

faith Abraham when he was tried offered up Isaac and he that had received the promise offered up his only begotten son. Ain’t it amazing that this is on Mount Mariah and Abraham is offered up his only begotten son? Who else offered up on that same mountain his only begotten son? And remember when he got ready to slay his son, the Bible says, well Abraham already told him, he says, God will provide himself a lamb. Now there was a ram caught in the thinking, but God said he will provide himself a lamb.

Now just provide a lamb, provide himself a lamb. So when John the Baptist comes along, what does he say when he sees Jesus? Behold the lamb of God that take it the way the sinner of God. Do you think they understood any of that there? It’s a shame they have to go with all that and that never understood anything. I just don’t believe it. I believe they understood. Now notice this, where he makes the statement, of whom it was said that in Isaac, shall thy seed be called?

Thy seed is talking about Christ. The Messiah is going to come to the line of Isaac. And accounting that God was able to raise him up even from the dead, from whence also he received him a figure, a figure of what? Abraham believed that if he slew his only begotten son, God would raise him from the dead and he received him as in a figure. In other words, he was a type of something. I wonder what it was a type of where the father slays his son.

Remember, it was the father who slew his own son upon the cross. Now get this, when Abraham was offering up his only son Isaac as a sacrifice, don’t you believe that this was a picture of God offering up his only begotten son Jesus Christ? Doesn’t this scripture also state that had he killed his son Isaac that Abraham believed God would raise him from the dead? So did he believe in the resurrection of the dead, evidently. Doesn’t this scripture also state that Abraham received him in a figure?

What do you think that means? Abraham believed in the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ. Now we’ll go further. In Romans in chapter 4, it’s hard to study the book of Galatians without Romans in chapter 4. Because Romans chapter 4 tells us an awful lot about what Abraham, our Father, as pertaining to the flesh, what he hath found. Abraham found something and he found that salvation was by grace through faith. Now how long did Abraham live before the law was given about?

Three years? Four years, 430 years before the law. That’s a long time. So Abraham could not have been saved by keeping the law good. The law wasn’t even given to Moses yet. Now get this. In Romans 4 Paul tells us why God’s righteousness was imputed to Abraham and what he had to believe. He had to believe the same thing that David, who was under the law and what David had to believe. Now look there at Romans chapter 4 and look in verse 13, for the promise that he should be the heir of the world.

Remember that in these shall all families of the earth be blessed because of you Abraham. But not only because of you because of the seed that’s going to come through your loins and on down the road, yes David and lo and behold, thousand years later it comes Christ. And Christ was going to be the payment for the sins of the whole world so that Jews and Gentiles are all saved the same way. Because that’s what he’s talking about. Now look there in verse 13.

For the promise that he should be the heir of the world through sanctification by faith was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. Abraham was 430 years before the law. For if they which are of the law, those who are seeking to be saved by their works, be heirs. Faith is made. void. In other words, if salvation is by your works, you don’t need faith. You just need to earn it.

Faith is means I got to trust what somebody else does for me. Works means I have to earn it. So Abraham found out that I don’t have to earn it because it’s free. Abraham found that you’re saved by grace. Now look what else you have here. So here in this verse 14, for if they which are of the law, the heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of none of faith. The promise was God’s going to justify person by faith without his works.

So Abraham, if he wanted to have salvation, well, it had to get it by faith and not by his work. So Abraham found that out. That’s why that verse is even mention in the book of Romans in chapter 4 that a man is saved by grace without the deeds of the law. So these are important because when you study the book of Galatians, you’re understanding why Paul took such a strong stand for the defense of the gospel and against the legalistic Judaizers because nobody’s ever been saved by the law.

Why are you trying to put people under the law? You You weren’t saved that way. You didn’t have to get circumcised to be saved and you don’t have to keep the law to be saved. Why are you trying to tell these other people? That’s what they got to do. You know what? That’s the same thing today as you got people who are trying to tell people, but you’ve got to turn from your sins to be saved. You haven’t. All these preachers that tell you you got to turn from your sins.

They haven’t. You mean they don’t send them more? What if you got to turn from all your sins? of them really have you? You mean they don’t sin anymore? Well I’ve had people say, well if you really say you’re not gonna want to go out here and do all those bad things. Well so far it looks like everybody does because everybody sins. Oh me, what a world. Now look at the next verse, verse 16 here. Therefore it is of faith, get this, that it might be by what?

Grays to the end of promise might be sure to all to see. See the only way salvation can be sure, and you can be sure of being saved from hell, and sure of going to heaven is it has to be by grace. So if it had to be by your works, well then it can’t be sure, because that depends on you. depends on you. But if it depends on Christ, well, they can be sure because he doesn’t lie. You don’t understand what I’m saying.

Can y’all really follow me? Or you know, la, la, la, la, and you know what I did one time? This is off the cuff. There’s no extra charge with this. At Northside up there, they had a, they had a, a, a lady’s banquet. And I don’t know why in the world I let Milton and my brother, little man, talk me into this. But we decided to crash their ladies’ party. We all three dressed up like women. Now I never do this again, but we dressed up like women.

I don’t know if I was a blonde or what I just dressed up. In all three of us, I remember I had a red dress and I’d say, you know, see the guy with to red dress on, but anyway, and Milton was our mama and a little man, well, he was my sister, so we meant his two girls. I was Lulu and he was Lala, so Lulu and Lala, it was so funny. And we actually did some kind of a skit and sung a song, but we had so much fun.

You say, what’s I got to do with this? Not a thing. I can’t even think of a point. But you got to enjoy life a little bit. It looked, I looked out there and I must have saw something that made me think about that. Oh, I said to her, Lulu. I said, that was a Lulu, Lulu, Lala. Anyway, down at the bottom of the page, the bottom of the page, this shows why God saved Abraham by grace through faith.

This was the only way that the promise. The heathen could be justified by faith, might be sure or guaranteed permanent eternal to all the seed. Those that were saved during Abraham’s time, those saved unto the law and those saved after the law, he’s the father of us all. So we’re all saved the same way. When I trust the Christ as my Savior, is God become my Father? When you trust the Christ as God become your Father? Well, that’s the same thing with all the rest of them.

And God becomes the Father, but here he’s talking about Abraham is the Father. Have you ever heard that little song, Father Abraham? But Betty does that real good. She says, Father Abraham, she does something. She used to be down with the kids and something like that. I can’t do it because I can’t do it because I can’t do it but I can’t get up. But anyway, I just moved on. All right, page two, page two, we’re moving right along there.

Now look at the top of the page here, Romans chapter four. And we’re looking at verse 17, now look what verse 17 says, as it is written, when it says as it is written, where is that supposed to be written? Revelation, Old Testament. All right, as it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations, before him whom he believed, even God, who quickenedeth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. In other words, when God says something because he’s God and he knows the future from the beginning, he can say, this is and it is.

If it will be, it is as far as God is concerned. So when I trusted Christ as my Savior, God has already declared me righteous. I can’t get any more righteous than I am. He’s already justified me. I can’t get any more justified. He sanctified me, made me pure and holy and set me apart. I belong to the Lord and I can’t get it anymore. Now one of these days I’m gonna drop this old body that’s kinda sagging on me a little bit and I’m gonna be glad when I get rid of it.

But you see, God already sees me in Christ. Now you see me here. God sees me in his Son and I’m seated in the heavenlies. That’s how sure this all is because see God sees things as it will be, but because it can’t be in the other way, it will be that away. And so I can have my confidence, my assurance. Now look at the next verse here. Verse 18, who against hope believed in hope that he might become the father of many nations according to that which was spoken, so shall thy seed be.

Now we’re talking about Abraham and how that Abraham was an old man. And by the time he was 99 years Oh, Sarah decides, okay, she finally gonna have this young. And at 90 years old, she has a baby. Abraham follows a child and they hit already 25 years before his body was already past, been able to have children, cause it says they were already old and good to have children. But God wanted to make sure, 25 more years later.

And they had to wait until God was ready, because see, this child was like a miracle child. He was a faith child because Abraham believed God. Now, get what he says here in verse 18, who against hope. In other words, physically it was impossible. In other words, it’s like Isaac was a miracle child, but he was not born by the will of the mom and the dad. had to miraculously heal their bodies so they could have a child. And this is a type of your new birth.

And this is a miracle. See, when you trust the Christ as your Savior, your new birth is a miracle. You are a miracle just by the fact that you’re God’s, that’s a miracle because you couldn’t produce that new birth. But God can. Now, get what else he says in verse 19. And being not weak in faith, He considered not his own body, not dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.

Being fully persuaded that what he had promised, he was able also to perform. In other words, this miracle child performed by God. And this is an awesome thing, when you stop and think, they believe what God said and God brought forth. Okay. Okay. Yep. Okay. Thank you for that. Okay. Because it’s all by faith, taking God to this word, this child that was born also was the line through which, remember that he wanted to use Ishmael in God’s head, no, it’s going to be through Isaac, and Isaac on down the road, and then you have David and Jesus Christ.

And it came with that line of that seed, and that’s why that is so important. And if Christ had not come, and Christ had not died, and he had not died, and he had not died, and he had not died, and he had died. nobody would have been saved. Nobody could have ever been saved. This was the only way anybody could have ever been saved. There is no option B or C, no other way. Now get this. The next statement here, this does not only refer to Isaac being born, but that the seed Christ, through whom the nations of the earth would be blessed, would come through his yet to be born miracle child.

Now God could not and cannot save a man simply because he believed he is going to have a son or that God was going to miraculously give him a son. All people must be, can only be saved the same way and that is by believing the same thing. They look forward to the son that would come which was the Messiah, the seed. And we look back to the son that has come and therefore were both saved exactly the same way by faith, taking God at His word and all the sacrifices that they made under the law, none of those sacrifices paid for sin.

That was to appease God’s anger until the Son came to be that payment, the Lamb, to pay for the sins of the world. Now get the next statement. Isaac was a type of the resurrection coming from the dead. Even God who quickened of the dead, he considered not his own body now dead, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb. So man, see, we’re separated from God, so we’re dead. But when we put our faith and trust in the Lord then God saves us and we are quickened or made alive.

You’re spiritually made alive. You’re God’s child now. Now look here in the next verse Romans chapter 4 this is a very important verse. Romans 4 and verse 22 and therefore it was imputed to Him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him, but for us also.” Now whenever we read the first part of this, therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. God imputed his righteousness to Abraham because of his faith.

Then turns right around and says, now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him. But look at the next part of the verse 24, but for who? us also on this side of the cross, to whom it shall be imputed. If we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the other words, we’re believing the same thing, they had to believe. And so God’s righteousness was put to their account, just like His righteousness has put our account.

And so we’re all saved the same way.
