Anyway, so we’re in Lecture 10 tonight, Lecture 10, chapter 1. And if you will, look there in your Bible to the book of Galatians in chapter 1. And we will read verse 10 through verse 24. In verse 10 says, For do I now persuade men or God? Or do I seek to please men? Thor if I yet please, men, I should not be the servant of Christ. But if I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached to me is not after man.

For I neither received it, of man neither was I taught it but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my conversation and time passing the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the Church of God and wasted it, and profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in my own nation, been where exceedingly zealous of the tradition of my fathers. But when it pleased God who separated me from my mother’s womb, called me by his grace, to reveal his son in me that I might preach him among the heathen, immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood.

Neither when I up to Jerusalem, to them which were apostles before me, but I went into Arabia and returned again unto Damascus. Then after the three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter and abode with him fifteen days. But other of the apostles saw I none, saved James the Lord’s brother. Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God I lie not. Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria in Selicium and was unknown by face unto the churches of Judea which were in Christ.

But they had heard only that he which persecuted us in time past and operates the faith which once he destroyed and they glorified God in me. Tremendous portion of Scripture and I want us to take a look at our notes because in verse 10 Paul identifies who is by the master he chooses to please. And the Bible tells us in Matthew chapter 6 and verse 24 you cannot serve two masters. That’s why men’s only supposed to have one wife.

There’s a joke there for somebody, but did you get that? I’m glad you got that. But you can’t serve God in money. You got to have, you know, make up your mind. Either you’re going to look at eternal things or earthly things. You can’t do both and do them well. And so that’s a choice that everybody has to make. So in verse 10 he says, for do I persuade men or God? Do I seek to please men? After what he had just said from verse 6 down to verse 9, does it sound like he’s a people pleaser or he’s taking a strong stand for the truth of the gospel and he is really taking a stand for the gospel.

But you’ve got to find out who do you owe your loyalty to? What I had to decide in my mind years and years ago is that I owe my love and my loyalty to Jesus Christ. He’s the one to doubt it on the cross. He’s the one that paid for my sins. He’s the one that gave me eternal life. He’s the one that’s going to take me to heaven when I die. And I don’t owe anybody else. But I want to do whatever he says to him.

If he says love you, then I’ll do it. If he says give to you, I’ll do it. And if he says, you know, forgive whatever he says do, but I owe him all my love and my loyalty. And I do believe that you prove your love and loyalty to Jesus Christ by your love and loyalty to the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you do not defend the gospel, then you’re allowing people to say things about your heavenly Father and about Jesus Christ without standing up for it.

And I believe in standing for the truth. This is what Paul is doing. So why you’re right there looking chapter two and notice what he says in verse five. To whom we gave place by subjections note not for an hour that the truth of the gospel might continue with you. In Lord, if He doesn’t say something, people are going to believe what those legalistic Judaizers are teaching. So Paul takes a stand. Now you’ll notice here in the notes, who were Paul’s masters before he was saved?

I mean, who did he submit to? Well, he submitted to the Sanhedrin, the Pharisees, the rulers of the Jews religion. And he did whatever they said to him. He believed what they believed. Now, the Sanhedrin is a Supreme Council, it’s the tribunal of the Jews. And this is during the post-exile, in other words, after the exile, then they came back and then bought the 100 years before Christ and 100 years after Christ, the Sanhedrin was in pretty good power.

And so they determined the things concerning the religious and the civil, the criminal code, everything about it and things were taken to because they had a high priest that was over the Sanhedrin. And so that was their authority for the nation of Israel. And so they’re the ones who kind of worked along with the Roman government and so forth. But anyway, number two, the message of the gospel persuades men to salvation, not the effectiveness of the man. In other words, God uses a man, but the power that saves is the gospel.

So your testimony is always important, and we know that and believe that. Now, in the next verse, verse 11, where we have about the conviction of the apostle Paul, where he says, but I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached to me is not after man, he didn’t get it from man. Now, if Paul’s preaching, and it is, this is why, yes, the question, why was he then persecuted if he preached, what the Pharisees preached? But they weren’t being persecuted, but he was.

Now hold your place right here and look in the book of Acts in chapter 15 real quickly. The book of Acts in chapter 15. You’ll notice there’s two things here from two verses that I want you to be aware of, because these are those Judaizers, and the Judaizers were, they were fair-sickle. We often call them self-righteous hypocrites, because that’s what they were. And so these were the ones that were the strict adherence to the law, strict observance of the law.

And they believed, yes, in the afterlife, and they also believed in the Messiah. Now it was the Sadducees and they were Sadducee because they didn’t believe in miracles in the resurrection. So they were, I guess you could say, Fuddy Duddies, because there’s no way to have any peace and love and joy, no happiness. And all you do is just criticize others. And they mocked the supernatural. But here in the book of Acts in chapter 15, in verse one says, and certain men which came down from Judea, taught the brethren, taught the brethren, and said, except you be circumcised after the men of Moses, you cannot be saved.

So they were trying to teach the law to be saved. Then over there in verse five, but there rose up certain of the sex of the Pharisees which believed, saying that it was needful to circumcise them and to command them to keep the law of Moses. So one is to get saved, the other one is to stay saved. But it all boils down, you’re putting people underneath the law. And so this was what they were doing, and they were saying you have to be circumcised according to the law of Moses.

And if you have to be circumcised to be saved, then of course the women were going to have a problem. But anyway, we’re going to move right along. Go back to Galatians in chapter 1. And you’ll notice that in verse 12, verse 12, Paul received his gospel message from Jesus Christ, not from another man. Paul’s gospel message, he received it from the Lord. That’s mentioned in chapter nine, and also chapter 26 of the book of Acts. And so you can read that.

And the gospel that he said, he got it from the Lord in 1 Corinthians in chapter 15, verses one down to verse four. Now, this verse 13 and 14 there in your notes is talking about Paul’s testimony in the Jews’ religion. And it mentions the Jews’ religion twice, but it’s only mentioned five times in the Bible about the religion, but the religion is not mentioned always in a good sense. also mentioned the book of James in chapter 1. But…

Here,, if you’ll look there in the scriptures, verse 13, for you have heard of my behavior, my manner of my testimony and time passing the Jews religion. how that beyond measure I persecuted the Church of God and wasted it. So the apostle Paul was known as a young man. He held the code for Stephen while he was being stoned and he gave his consent for that murder to take place. And he was a bad man. And so he was there.

He was doing all of things. But you say, well, why did he do all of these things that he was doing? the Bible gives us reasons why he was doing it. But he thought that what he was doing was doing God a favor. He actually thought that killing these Christians was doing the service of the Lord, doing the work of God. Of course it wasn’t, but that’s what he thought and that’s why he did it. So if you look there in your notes, let her be a look at the life of Paul, his qualification.

He persecuted the church beyond measure. He was in the top of his class. When he talks about, he says how that beyond measure I persecuted the church and profited in the Jewish religion above many of my own equals. In other words, I believe probably for his age, he superseded. I mean, he was top of his class. He was a smart man, a brilliant man, and he was well educated. So he was not a dumb, dumb. This was not some savage out there.

This is not some old, heathen. This was a brilliant man. He had said at the feet of Gamaliel, he was a highly intelligent man of the Jews’ religion. He says he knew the Jews’ religion and he talked about in the book of Philippians in chapter three, talks about how that that he was a Pharisee of the Pharisees, and he was of the tribe of Benjamin, and he concerned the law, he was blameless, not that he was perfect, but if he had to make a sacrifice for something that he did wrong, but he did whatever the law says.

And so he filled with that Pharisee of co-latitude, self-righteousness, filled with pride, and he thought that what he was doing was doing what God wanted him to do. Now I want you to take your Bible and turn to the Gospel of John, the Gospel of John, and look in chapter 16. John chapter 16. And you’ll notice in John chapter 16, looking verse 1, these things have I spoken unto you that ye should not be offended. They shall put you out of the synagogues.

Yea the time cometh, the whosoever, killeth you will think that he doeth God’s service. That’s what Paul was doing. He was killing them and thought he was doing God’s service. But was he wrong? He was dead wrong. But other people were dead too, but he was putting people in prison and doing this and it was a shame and a disgrace about what Paul was doing. Now, in the book of Acts there in your notes, you can just look at this in Acts 9, what was he like?

What was he like? Calculating mean vindictive, cold, heartless. But all the time though, you see, he was what we would call today a high D, a high D. And whenever you study temperaments, you’ll find out that he was a dominating dictatorial type of an individual. He was a result oriented. See, there’s people who are result oriented. They want results. Then there’s people who are people oriented. So some people, they are concerned more about how they think and feel and their emotions and they’re more tender-hearted and compassionate toward people.

And then you have people that are a high deed, the dominating, dictatorial type, straightforward in your face and heart, and sometimes cold, but that’s the way they’re wired like that. And so it’s not because they wanna be like that and they wanna be like that. And sometimes these people who are so passive, they can’t make up their mind. Well, let me pray about it for four days or five days. And these people like to make decisions quick and sometimes on little knowledge.

And they have very little patience with those who want to take forever and a day. And they can’t stand those people because they’re too quick and it scares them. And so there’s people who have different types of temperament. Some are very passive and slow and patient calculating. But opposites attract and then attack. That’s why you’ll always see generally there’s a man who is one way and the woman is just about totally opposite. And one’s fast and one’s slow. Well, Paul was that type of a person.

But even after he trusted Christ as a Savior, his temperament didn’t change. It’s God harnessed it and still used him the same way that he was. And that’s why he was outgoing as far as reaching people. He was result-oriented. And he would do what he had to do. And he had little patience with other people who wouldn’t do what they promised to do. promise to do or stay up with it or whatever. Mark, he had no patience with Mark.

But Barnabas, Barnabas, he had all the patience in the world. So he could work with them. And later on, they’d say, bring that Mark out. He could profitable with for him in the ministry, but not because of Paul, because of Barnabas. Everybody has assets and liabilities. Every person in this room, you’ve got assets and liabilities. And some people just think, well, they’re just purposely mean. No, that’s their temperament. That’s how they come across because that’s the way they’re wired.

But every person regardless of your temperament is to be controlled by the Holy Spirit. So that those who are passive and well, they might need to speed up and others might need to slow down. So these opposites that get married and they can benefit each other because they can learn from each other what’s lacking and everybody has something lacking and so that’s why the wife was to be a help me a completer for the man. But anyway this is in the word of God and it says and prophet it in the Jews religion.

By many my equals in my own nation been more exceedingly zealous of the tradition of my father. Now this is why if you hold your place right here and look book of Romans in chapter 10, the book of Romans and chapter 10. And you’ll notice that this phrase is similar to what we haveLabour here kind of gives now the heart of the Apostle Paul. So look there in chapter 10 and look in verse 1, brethren my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be lost.

That they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God. Why? Because that’s the way He was. They have a zeal of God. And they thought they were doing God a favor by persecuting those Christians. They were defending their faith and they were raised under the law. And they saw that what Paul was preaching later and what the Christians was, it’s like they don’t need to go to the temple, they don’t need to make sacrifices anymore, they don’t need the law and because they’re free from the law and not to be judged according to the Sabbath and to the feast days and all these things.

Now we’ve got people today they get so wrapped up in these feast days that they can’t go forward and do anything for the Lord. Now there’s nothing wrong in understanding the appointments that God has because I read them, I teach them myself but I don’t get wound up and that’s all I talk about is the feast days and all I talk about is Jesus Christ coming on a particular day. Though I got a few ideas and I might be sure no one’s coming up pretty soon, but it can’t stop me from doing the work that we’re supposed to get done.

Otherwise that’s all you do is just study those things and never get anything accomplished. But now notice, for I bear them record that they have a zeal of God but not according to knowledge. Now get this, for they be an ignorant of God’s righteousness and going about to establish their own righteousness, which is what he was doing, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that keeps the Ten Commandments and obeys the Golden Rule.

No. To everyone that, believe it. Now Paul knows that now, but he didn’t know that then. Paul had to change, but he still kept that same powerful forward movement when he was against the church, and he’s doing the same thing now for the church with the same zeal, the same passion that he had before. Now, look what he has here in chapter nine of the book of Romans, and look in verse one. He says, I say the truth in Christ, because a little bit further down he says, I speak to you, he said, I lie not, I lie not, In other words, what I’m telling you is the truth.

And when you tell the truth, that’s not the same as swearing on a stack of Bibles when he says, swear not by the son of the moon or blah, blah, blah. And I know this is true, I swear on a stack of Bibles on my dead mother’s grave. So that’s a post of mean more. He says, let’s your yay be yay and your nay nay. I don’t know what that means. What do you think that means? What’s that? If you’re telling the truth, it should be because you said it was true.

Tell the truth. And when you say no, it should be no. Your word supposed to be your bond. Well, what it used to be. But that’s passed now. But here in Romans in chapter 9 and verse 1, he says, I say the truth in Christ, I light not my conscience also bear me witness in the Holy Ghost that I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brother and my kinsmen according to the flesh.

He loved the Jewish people. He knows how they think. He was educated the same way. He was a Hebrew. He was a Pharisee of the Pharisees. He profited in the Jews’ religion. He was high and lifted up. He was somebody. And he thought that he was doing God a favor. But anyway, look down here in your notes to where Paul means little or small. Saul means desired. And he had little patience, little patience for unfaithful ministry aides in reference to John Mark in the book of Acts in Demas whom he said, have left me for the, he loved this present world.

Somebody whose face was set like a flint and he would not move and he didn’t have much patience with those who did. And anyway, looked at page three, page three. Now in verse 15, there’s a very interesting verse where he says, But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, to reveal his son and me that I might preach him among the heathen, immediately I conferred, not with flesh and blood.

Now, when we’re talking here in verse 15, but when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb. Now, there’s a couple ways you can look at this, is that whenever I was born into the world and my birth was separated from my mom. Well, now it could be. And it could be a reference you might want to go all the way back to the book of Jeremiah in chapter one, where it talks the same thing about Jeremiah before.

I formed the innibelly, I knew thee, and I called thee an ordain thee that thou shalt, you know whatever. So there’s things that God may want a person to do. But whether he calls you by the gospel, and he calls you into service, there is the will of God. And many times we talk about God has elected to do certain things, and many times that deals with service. And so the will of God is God has called us to serve him.

We as a child of God have been selected, elected, and we are to serve the Lord just because God has determined something and revealed His will, is it possible for a lost man to defy the will of God for salvation? God is not willing that any should perish, so that means nobody will perish. That means that some people can and you can defy the will of God for your life. So that means that not everybody does what God calls them to do.

And even though God can call Jeremiah and wants him to do certain things, there was a time in Jeremiah’s life where he says, I’m not doing this anymore. I’ve had this. I’ve had enough of this. But he says later, he says, but his fire was in me as I burned in fire and it burned in my bones like a hammer and boom. And he says, I could not stay. I just had to keep talking. But there’s people who God may want you to do a lot of different things, but you can defy the will of God.

And when it comes to salvation, God wants everybody to be saved, but you can defy that. And God may want you to serve Him, but you can defy that too. Paul, God said, I will show Him what great things He must suffer for my name, say. That’s in the book of Acts in chapter 9. Paul could have said, said, no, I’m out of here. Did God reveal his will concerning Jonah? Did Jonah won’t know what God wanted him to do?

But Jonah could have said no. And he did say no. And he did run. But God, by the time he got through with him, made him wish he had went ahead and went first time. But he can defy the will of God. And then when he did what God says do, he had a wonderful attitude. No, he had a stinking attitude because you can still defy the will of God. Even though the Bible says in Ephesians 2, 8, 9, for by grace are you say it through faith, that not of yourself, it is the gift of God not of work, lest any man should boast.

For we are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus, which God hath before ordained. We should walk in them. So God’s ordained that all of us should walk in Him. So that means we will. Is it possible for people to rebel against salvation by grace? Yeah. Can they defy the will of God for their life after you’re saved? Yes. Even though God can call you and it was His will, I believe God has a plan for my life. But I could deny it too and say, I’m not going to do it.

lawmaker of people, atchewan and I’m not going to do it. And a lot of people rebel against the Lord. Here’s the little statement that I wrote down. The will of God for us reveals God’s choices for us. If God has a will for me what He wants me to do, then God has chosen what He would have me to do. But can I deny the choice that God made? I’m going to choose something different. God wants me to do this and I said, nope, I’m going to do this.

Not by the time God gets through with me. I’ll probably wish I had done what God says do but We can defy God’s will or defy God’s choices because God’s will is God’s choice That’s what he’s revealed to us. So God We didn’t need to understand Once you trust Christ as your Savior say you are also the Alex he would Jesus Christ the Bible says in the Old Testament concerning the Messiah, Jesus Christ, He is my elect. So everyone who trusts Christ’s Savior that are in Christ, you are in the elect.

So you are the elect, you’re in Christ. And so God has elected all of those that are in Christ to serve Him. And God has left us here for a reason, for a purpose. And I believe that we should do that. But look at the top of the page. Election according to the Calvinist, This is a wrong view. This is how they look at the scriptures and how they look at life. Election is the means of salvation. That’s what they teach and that’s wrong.

God chooses who heriends to save and looks over those for whom he will not choose to save. So they say that here’s all the people in the world and God reached down and chooses to save this one and this one and this one and that one. And therefore, how can you get mad at God because he chose some to save. Well, that’s fine if I was in that group. But how do I know if I’m in the group? How do I know I’m one of the elect?

Because I believe I am. Because I’m going to church. What about all the people that go to church? Is they all going to? Well, I read my Bible. You mean all the people that read their Bible are going? How do you still determine you are one of the elects? See, they cause a problem. Well, because I believe it. Yeah, but what happens down the road in two weeks from now or a month from now, a year from now, you don’t believe it anymore.
