But anyway, in the book of Galatians in chapter 6, I want you to look in verse 1. Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, what that means is, looking back at chapter five, they’re walking in the flesh. Now that’s how you get overtaken by a fault, walking in the flesh. And he says, which are spiritual, well that Galatians chapter five verse 22, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace and so on. So there’s those that walk in the Spirit and those that walk in the flesh.
And so those that walk in the spirit are supposed to help those that are walking in the flesh. And he says here, restore such a one that’s walking in the flesh in the spirit of meatness. See meatness is verse 23 of chapter five. So the one that is spiritually minded in walking in the spirit, considering thyself lest thou also be tempted to walk in the flesh. how easy it is whenever you read the chapter before and you put it in the context, the verses just open up and they’re so easy to understand.
But when you isolate it and put it by yourself, you’re trying to figure out, no, what does that mean? What does that mean? Well, I’ll tell you what it means if you read all of it. But then he makes this statement in verse two, bury you one another’s burdens. In other words, the spiritual kind of helping those that are weak in the faith. And then those that are weak in the faith, when that person who is in the spirit is helping you.
You’ve been a blessing to you. The Bible talks about share back with that person. Let them know. You’ve been a blessing in my life. You’ve helped me. I’ve learned something from you. Encourage somebody because it’s so easy just to get into the process of living and sometimes taking things for granted. Or you go to the other stream because everybody owes me something. And if nobody treats you right, you have a pity party.
Nobody loves me. That’s why I tell you every week, God loves sinners. And if you’re still a sinner, you’re still messing up, God still loves you and we’ll oppose a love one another. So what you do for one another to help them, says kind of all of, if Jesse was a stand up right now, it would be very difficult for us to stumble over him. Now, if he was a fall, it’d still be hard to stumble over him. But I’m talking about if he was a fall, it’s easy for us to stumble over somebody who falls.
So for the sake of other people, you try not to fall. You don’t want to stumble because that causes those who are behind you to stumble. I used to love marching when I was in the Navy. Oh, I marched. I loved to march. I could just march for years, it’s just March. I love marching. But if the guy in front of you gets out of step, you think you’re out of step. So you skip in order to get yourself back the way he is.
Just kind of like this mother one time she was watching the parade coming down. She said, look at that, look at Johnny. He’s the only one that’s in step. Now if she doesn’t understand, it’s okay. Her boy is the only one doing right. And all those other ones are out of step. And sometimes that’s what we do. We kind of judge what we’re doing by what somebody else is doing. But learning how to, you know, Compliment and encourage everybody’s having a rough time.
This has been a rough year for a lot of people. I’d say it’s been a very rough year for Betty because of what she’s been through. And some of the others have had a rough time. And Becky’s having a rough time. And Mrs. Poulton’s had a rough time. I mean, it’s a rough life. It’s like saying, Lord, would you just stop the earth and let me off? I want to get off now. We were listening to some Christian songs.
I think it was on the way to church. And it was about everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die to get there. And there’s this actual song that goes by that. Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die to get there. Well, one of these days that’s going to happen. But now look what he says in verse two, bear you one another’s burdens and so fulfilled the law of Christ. Now the law of Christ is the law of love because that’s the law that works for Christians.
The whole law can be fulfilled in one word, love. And so because we love them and if you spend time with people and you are a help or a blessing to people then we should also want to share it back. I had this afternoon I had John John call me. John, John calls me up. No, that’s John Henry. He says, I was surprised this morning when I got a call to speak in Sunday school, then church, and he had no time for preparation.
He says, I thought I’d just call you and let you know I am so thankful for Florida Bible College because he could handle it. He said, if I had that opportunity before, I would not have been prepared. He said, but I’m prepared now. And so he preached a little sermon on, well, desire, and he talked to him about desperation. And then he said he talked about diligence. And how that everybody needs to have this thirst, hunger, desire for God.
And of course he goes to the book of Psalms in chapter 42 where it says, as the deer panteth for water, like, being so dry. And sometimes that’s why my sermons are, you know, they’re so dry. You know, some people they like to dig whales while you’re talking. And some preachers can go down so deep and stay down so long and come up so dry. So I try to have a little water once in a while. And it says kind of like, you know, when you’re so dry and you do anything just to get a little shade.
We know the verse in the Bible about getting in the shadows, getting in the shade. And I think somewhere along the line, John, maybe forgot that I told him this years ago. remembers. He remembers and he says it really helped him. He says Freddy Coyle had just finished their two or three day camp of what they had and so he was having to go home but his wife got into the vehicle at the camp and she went down the hill to get the stuff but it had rained and rained and rained as she couldn’t get back up the hill.
So another person in another car went down there to get her and they couldn’t get that one up the hill. So Freddy knew that I’m not going to make it back in time for church. So he called up John John and John John was put on the spot. But he called me up and he says, you wouldn’t believe it. We had a fantastic preacher coming and preach for us today. Now when he said that, I had an idea who he was talking about.
So I reminded him that if you remember what Dr. Curtis Hudson said, unless thou toot thine own horn, it shall forever remain in the state of untootedness. So sometime we’d like to have somebody to our own horn just so that we don’t have to toot our own horn. So he says, bear you one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. So I’m supposed to help somebody else get up the hill. I’d mention that in the graduation. Helping somebody get to the finish line.
We want to help everybody we can make it across. In other words, you don’t want to go home in the dark. Years ago, years ago, I preached this on my own, going home in the dark. But then he makes a statement here in verse three, for if a man thank himself to be something when he is nothing, he just gave it himself, isn’t that a humiliating verse? I mean, if I think I am something, you’re nothing. And that’s so discouraging, so disappointed.
So I like the positive. I don’t mind it if you say nice things about me. I was talking with Mel’s Carbonell and he was talking about himself and talking about himself and talking about himself and talking about himself. He finally stopped and said, look, that’s enough talking about me. Why don’t you talk about me? But that’s Mel’s Carbonell. And he was always funny and he would always introduce me. This is my friend Yankee Arnold, pure and simple. He said, I’m pure and he’s, I think, Mel’s coming.
I’m going to get you. I’m one of these days I’m gonna get him, but he would always come up with something, just put me down just a tad, because sometimes when you’re feeling too good, there’s always somebody who can kinda put you down a notch. But it says here in verse four, but let every man prove his own work. In other words, learn how to, I guess you would say discern what you’re doing with your own life. Discerning how am I doing as a Christian?
And if you can discern that for yourself, then you ought to know that if you’re doing right, and if you’re doing right, and you can discern that you’ll have joy that the world can’t give, and the world can’t take away because it’s the joy of the Lord when you do what God wants you to do. But it’s not only of us doing what we’re supposed to do for ourselves, but he also mentioned something else here. Then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone and not in another?
If you’re satisfied with what you’re doing for the Lord that ought to satisfy you. Because you can’t make somebody else know the Lord, love the Lord, care about the Lord, care about soul. All you can do is what are you doing? And you’d be responsible for you. And you keep yourself walking with the Lord. But then he makes a statement. In verse five, for every man shall bear his own burden. But first of all, in the last part of verse four, then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone and not in another.
So we’re to bear one another’s burdens weren’t supposed to bear our own burdens and it seemed like we’re supposed to care for or what another. Now take your Bible and look at this verse here verse 6. In verse 6 it says, let him that is taught in the word. Now there’s those who are spiritually minded and there’s those that are carnally minded, spiritually minded walk in the spirit because that’s what he says in Galatians 5 of 16. this I say then walk in the spirit, you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
All right, some people will wind up walking in the flesh. And you that are walking in the spirit don’t lift yourself up so high and mighty because it doesn’t take much to bring you down. What comes before a fall? Pride comes before a fall. That’s why he makes a statement of here. You’re thinking something, as he says there in verse 3, for if a man think himself to be something that’s, is that exalted yourself in your own eyes? And then God can pull you down to where when he gets through with you, even you won’t think you’re worth anything because he can humble you.
Now God is able to work, but as children of God, we’re supposed to do this in verse six. Let him that is taught, the person that was walking in the flesh was taught some things by the person that was walking in the Spirit. So then that person who has learned something, he says, communicate unto him that teaches in all good things. So you share back with the person who has helped you in the ministry. I’ve been here now nine years and a few months.
And I would like to know in nine years, If I have helped you, are you supposed to let me know that? According to the Bible. If I have been a blessing to you in nine years and you’ve learned anything from me, then the Bible says you’re supposed to, see that’s how you encourage the person. Now this afternoon, after I got rid of John John, I mean John John finished. This other guy that had called, he says I live in South Carolina.
He says, you used to have a Bible study in my home, in New Orleans, Florida. Miami, New Orleans High School, he says you used to give devotion for football teams. And I says, you mean like with Jackie Holmes and Dee Dee Mathis and somebody, he says, not them, I’m not him. And the game, his name was Jimmy Smith. I don’t know anything about a Jimmy Smith. I don’t remember a Jimmy Smith, but he remembered me. And he says, I’ve been trying to find you for a long time.
And he says, I finally went on just thought I’d just look on Florida Bible College. And I saw you on there because of our website. So then he finally got a hold. He said, I need to call you back. I want to talk to you. So I was excited to hear from him. But it’s exciting hearing from some of the people that you’ve been in. And that was 51 or 52 years ago. Live long enough, stay faithful long enough.
and you’ll find out fruit that can come back to you. And it will be a blessing to you. And it’s such an encouragement thing. Whenpload didn’t ask for it, and then all of a sudden you get somebody that’s right out of the blue. But now, in this last year, we don’t go back nine years. In this last year, if you learned something, been taught something, and encouraged by somebody, that’s sitting in here. Don’t you think it would be a great encouragement that if you said, you know, Blah, blah, blah, really encouraged me.
They said something to me. They did something to me. They’re faithfulness or whatever, or a Sunday school teacher. I want you to say, who was that person that has been a blessing to you this year? I was saying, nobody’s been a blessing to me at all this year. So I don’t have to say a word. But it is the word of God, and it’s in the book. And it is to exhort one another. But the Bible says, exhort one another daily, not just once a year, but daily we’re supposed to be a blessing to other people.
And if somebody’s taught you that there might be something you wanna say, you know, Jesse has been a blessing to me. And I’ll tell you this, he really stepped up to the plate and he’s done a great job. When we had like a crisis to hit our church and he’s filled in and he’s done an excellent job. Would y’all agree with that? I would. I think it’s great. Give him a big hand. Give him a big hand. Now, I just took one of y’all off the porch, so you don’t have to say anything about him nor.
He said you can if you really want to. So I want you to take that microphone. It’s already on. And I want you to be able to give a word of compliment to somebody about something or some teacher that you have, you learn something. Somebody’s been a blessing to you. And this is the will of the Lord. This is the book. And of course, you want to go by the book, right? All right, start over there and just go right down this way here.
Talk loud now and clear. I appreciate not only Jesse, who when he started Bible College five years ago was just a kid. Really skinny. Really skinny. But I appreciate the example of our pastor and his wife, who are just. I didn’t hear that. Would you repeat that? Who are you? Nice about Betty. Just plain faithful people. And we appreciate that. And since the FBC, we’ve been in several churches, not a lot of churches, but several. And until we came here, we had forgotten how wonderful it is to hear the gospel so clearly, so faithfully.
And we’re just grateful. Very grateful. Well, thank you so much. Now, you have no idea. You do not know if I am discouraged and down, despondent, because you can’t tell by looking at my face. You don’t know what’s going on in my heart. So you really don’t know. But can’t you still be encouraging to somebody? Because wouldn’t it be a shame that if I thought nobody cares about whether I stay here or I don’t? I could just leave next week and they wouldn’t even know it.
I’ve already been gone for two weeks and nobody knew I left. No, I’m just sorry. Anyway, I bet thank you so much and I appreciate it. All right. I just want to say Larry has really encouraged me this year. I can’t remember what I think it was a couple weeks ago. I was talking to Kyla about something I just felt very inadequate about how I was leading the music and stuff like that. And literally, as I’m talking, my phone goes off and Larry sent a really nice, random, encouraging email.
And that was helpful, especially when you’re trying to do things for the first time. and we’ve been really blessed with Larry. And then for just a random email to come through, at the right time, I looked up and I said, God, why do I doubt you? But Larry’s been a great encouragement to me. That I agree with, that’s wonderful. If you’d like to go, just raise your hand, I’ll get the mic to you. Yeah, just raise your hand if you want to say a word.
He can run around. Or in and then Larry. I guess I could say ditto, but because Jesse has really been a blessing to me, to me personally, like you said, the church has been through a tough year. We’ve had some tough things, and Jesse stepped right in there and took over, and I hadn’t, you know, I’d been playing the bass and singing for the service, but I didn’t sing in the choir, and when I got into the choir and started, Jesse is so on top of things, and so it’s amazing.
I mean, it’s so much fun and singing the choir, too. He acts like he’s prepared. He is so prepared. He does a good job with it, yeah. But that’s just one blessing too. And so you’re a blessing to me. I just love coming to this church and hearing this gospel message every Sunday, every way. And a lot of people say, hey, you always have a smile on your face. I’m not always smile happy on the inside. I’m down sometimes and I’ve got things going on in my life.
I just love coming to this church and just love hearing this message. And every time I just, we stop playing, I sit down. I can’t wait to hear your message. So it’s just, you’ve been a true blessing to me. The Firehouse Five doesn’t got so good. I don’t even feel that good to play in the Firehouse Five in the War. You can play anytime. Thank you so much. It’s a lot of things you can say and a lot of things you don’t understand how God works But we know he always works For the best for the good anything good is gonna work be working for God anything else is for the devil I would never have thought That after 35 years You and I would be working together just like we did back in North Carolina.
It’s gotta be a miracle. It’s got to be. And we believe in miracles. Because it seemed like, when I came a few months back, we just picked up where we left off. But we’re better now. Yeah, we’re older. Better looking to. Well, I don’t know about you, but yeah. But this church, every one of y’all, have been such a blessing to me. And it’s just so easy to sit and play behind a man like Jesse. It is so easy to sit behind somebody that loves the Lord and knows.
He doesn’t come across as well. I know the book. He knows the man who wrote the book. That’s like you. You just don’t know the book. You can recite scripture after scripture after scripture. But you don’t just know the book. You know the man who wrote the book. And that’s what we all need to know, is to know that man who wrote the book. We can read books all day long, but nothing that we read is going to be like the book that God gave us.
I would honestly personally like to sincerely say, thank you Lord for causing what you had happened to me this past January and for a little lady named Trina who was my dismissal nurse. He gave me a track in the hospital. And I looked at it and turned it over. They said Ralph Yankee Arnold, Calvary Community Church. And I asked her, was that who I thought it was? Now she said no, I didn’t know why y’all wasn’t going to play them.
But she said yeah, you need to come and visit. I came and visited and here I am. And it’s because of God’s miracle, God’s work. And that’s what we’ve got to do. Be able to say, okay, God, you’re using me. Where do you want me to go? And go. That’s just it. If you say you’re going to go, you go. You don’t sit on a seat and say, okay, use me. But I don’t want to go over there. I don’t want to go there.
I’m going to go here. That’s not the way God works. He gives you the desires of your heart. I mean, I know I’ve had a lot of things in my short years here, 71 and a half years, but nothing has compared to this past year, to what it’s got. And thank you so much for knowing the man, just like Jesse. That’s a good way to put it. Thank you so much. Know the man that wrote the book. knowing the man who wrote the book.
Thank you, Larry. Appreciate it. I just want to say I haven’t I’ve only been here a couple months, but I have never been so happy learning more about the Lord than I have since I’ve been here. I have learned more here in two months than I did when I was going to Bible school, a different school. And I’ve never been to a church that’s been so loving, caring, and friendly. And I just love it here and it’s a fantastic church.
Thank you so much. Appreciate that. By the way, if you enjoy the church next Sunday. So some of these people, when they come, they want to come back. I don’t know if we’re supposed to be encouraging you, and I don’t know if this will or not. But this church really is blessed. And for you to be gone, like you have, shows us that this church is full. Good boy. Good boy. Full to the brim of young men that are educated, God-fearing, and loves the Lord.
And they have kept your church on track. I don’t care how long you’re gone, and we do miss you, but we are blessed. Thank you. We do have some great people that can fill in and speak. Someone else? Just hold your hand up. Yes, my name is Alan. I’m 90 years old plus. And I just want to say that my favorite blessing is my wife who is submitting to my caregiving. Presently, she’s having some difficulties. And sometimes when you have to be the taskmaster, it’s difficult.
I want to thank the pastor for being a good friend. From time to time, he’s called me into his office and we’ve talked about a few things and he’s been agreeable to some projects that I have and things have worked out very well. My Sunday school teacher Bob Gilbert, I love the guy. It’s not the book, the chapter, the verse, it’s the word man, it’s the word. And his wife, great couple, mentors and of course Betty the past his wife friendly kind caring she’s a blessing and a person I call Mr.
Wiggles that’s Warren and Becky our violinist fine fine musician and Jim God bless Jim our guitarist in spite of his His fingers and so forth and so on, painting him, I’m sure he’s having some difficulties. Very fine church, very happy. I decided to become someone who believes at the age of 76, long, long time. Thanks very much people. Anyone else? All is giving that to Louis. I will say this, in spite of all of my wife has gone through this year, I don’t think I know another woman quite like her.
And even though we’ve been married almost, well, June to 59 years. But even this like this afternoon, she was visiting three neighbors this afternoon. And I think it’s so neat that she’s either going to be doing that or she’s calling somebody on the phone. And she’s talking to people sometime around the country. I can be driving and she’ll start on the phone and it’s her good time to talk to anybody and everywhere. And they’re just so blessed that they know her and that she cares about them.
And I’m glad that I’ve got a wife like her because without a wife like her, I could not do the ministry that I have. And I thank the Lord for my wife. And I do want to encourage her because she’s had some trying times just last year. And y’all don’t know the whole story on everything that she’s been through, but it’s been a lot.
