Alrighty, welcome to our Sunday School class. We’ve been studying in the life of Christ, and we’ve gone through His birth, His baptism, His wilderness experience, talked about His first miracle at the wedding of the Kingdom of Galilee, and then last week we talked about Nicodemus, now John chapter 4. So take your Bible and turn to John chapter 4. John chapter 4 is a wonderful, wonderful story. Maybe some of us can relate to this one. You see, the one that came to him in chapter 3 was a very, very religious man.

I mean a do-gooder. I mean a law keeper. And the only thing is he was religious, but he was lost. but lost. And he came to Jesus by night and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God for no man can do the miracles that thou doest except God be with him. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Accept a man be born again. He cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Can’t enter, can’t see it.

That would be born in the flesh, flesh, that would be born in the spirit spirit. So you must be born again. And the first birth is not generally considered a water birth, it is considered a flesh birth. That’s which is a flesh flesh. That’s the first birth. And that’s which is born the spirit, second birth. So you must be born again. And the Lord told him the answer to his question, how can a man be born when he’s old?

Can he enter into his mother’s womb and be born again the second time? Jesus was talking about something spiritual, a birth that you can’t see He relates it to the wind, and so John 3, 16 was his answer to Nicodemus. For God saw a lot of the world that He gave His only begotten Son to whosoever believe it. There is all you have to do to get this spiritual birth. Will you believe that God sent His Son? He says, and as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up.

And in John chapter 12, Christ says, when you lift me up and put me on the cross, then he says, I will draw all men unto me. So he draws through the gospel, through that good news. That’s what really draws people to Christ. And they can’t come if they don’t hear. So that’s why we’re so important in the plan of God. So the plan of salvation was not just that he did all of this, but the continuation of that plan It’s for us to tell people about it.

We don’t tell anybody. They don’t know it. Yesterday I got a chance to get out there and hit that little white ball. You know that little white ball? And well, I didn’t have to say that. Yes. Golf is a lot like life. You work all day to get to the green and wind up in the hole when you get there. But anyway, I blew my mind what I was talking about. But anyway, when you get back here, see that means I shouldn’t have even told you all that.

I should have never even mentioned that. But there is the spirit and there is the flesh and this whole physical body every once in a while likes to do things, something different. But anyway, what I wanted to get you into is John chapter 4. Have you got there yet? I hope so. John chapter four. Mhm. The Bible says that Jesus made this statement, he must needs go through Samaria. Now, Samaria was a place of the, I guess people call them hat breed, but they were Jewish people that had married Gentiles and, you know, you get hated by both sides then.

And so they had those days back then, and this was 2000 years ago. And so Jesus told his disciples that to look there in verse one of chapter four, when therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized and were disciples in John, though Jesus himself baptized not but his disciples. So he decided, you know, I’ll just take and go up into Samaria. It taken some of the criticism away from the Pharisees and comparison.

You know, there’s always somebody wants to know he’s doing a better job than you are. You know, John’s baptizing more people. And so there’s always, you know, this problem going on. So you have to always watch that. But anyway, it says here that Jesus made and baptized more disciples and John, so you have this conflict. And so, eliminate the conflict. Just go someplace else for a while. So he left Judea and departed again into Galilee. And he must needs go through Samaria.

See that statement? You ought to underline that. He must. He must needs go through Samaria. Now there has to be something there that would motivate him to want to go there. Must have been some good beautiful sightseeing there. You know from tall buildings to look at. Maybe they had a, you know, six flags over Georgia, or maybe they would probably have a Disney World there or something like that. I don’t think that that all that was going on. So he says here in verse 5, then cometh heed to a city of Samaria, which is called Saikar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

So you know that’s an old well, an old parcel of ground, but there was a well there. And they call it Jacob’s well. So he says here in verse 6, now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore been wearied with his journey sat thus on the well and it was about the six hour. Now if you start in the morning at six o’clock which most of them would then you’re talking about maybe about noon and it’s the hottest time of the day and that’s not generally when people come to draw water either in the morning or in the cool of the day but not in the heat of the day but he knew that there was somebody going to come to that well.

But what I like is this, the Bible makes a statement that there’s many miracles that Christ did. But he says these things were written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and that by believing you may have life through his name. So if you will just simply understand that there’s a lot of things that he did, a lot of stories, but these are choice stories that are put together into one book in order to convince people the clarity of the gospel, why they should witness and why they should listen and why we should have a clear message.

And look who he went and talked to. Wherever Jesus went, there was results. There was always something going on. And so he made the statement in John chapter 4, he has to go through Samaria. There was a woman Now remember, he talked to a Pharisee in chapter 3, really great individual looked upon high respect and now he’s talking to a woman that’s of low respect. So Jesus would reach the highest and he’d reach the lowest and anybody in between because when he says for God so loved the world, well then he has to demonstrate that.

There has to be a story, an illustration where he does just that and that he will save any body. So this is a wonderful story and you’ll see how simple the gospel is. You saw that in John chapter 3. How simple? Believe, believe. So he says here in verse seven, there come up a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said unto her, give me to drink. for his disciples were gone away into the city to buy meat. Then said the woman of Samaria unto him, how is it that thou been a Jew, askest drink of meat which am a woman of Samaria?

For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.” So the woman wants to know. Who are you? You’re a Jew, but why are you asking me? Because we know that you don’t have anything to do with us. So they knew that that time, see the Jews, they looked down upon people. They really did. Because they knew they were God’s chosen to do certain things, you know, bring them a sign to the world, which they didn’t know when it came.

bring the word of God to us and for God to work through a nation that could be a light to the world. They kind of messed up a little bit. But he says here in verse 10, Jesus said to her, and get how simple this is. If thou newest, the gift of God and who it is, that saft of thee, give me to drink, you thou would have asked of him and he would have given.” See, that’s not very complicated, is it?

If thou knewest the gift of God, the gift of God, and who it is that saith unto thee, give me to drink, thou would have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. And so he uses an illustration. This is what good soul-waters do, to take it from where you are. And so if you drink the water that’s in this well, you’re going to get thirsty again. And if you get thirsty again, what are you going to have to do?

Get some more water. And then when you drink that, ah, satisfies. But then you get thirsty again. You’ve got to have some more. He said, but I got some water. Once you drink this water, you’ll never thirst again. So what does that mean? Is that you can only get saved one time. How many times can God give you the free gift of eternal life one time because if it’s eternal life and you can’t lose it how many times would he have to give it to you only one time.

What does Christ can only save you once because he can only die for you once and you see when it says this and the Bible makes a statement says it is appointed under every man wants to die and after this the judgment every man wants to die. So every man when he dies, only dies one time. So Christ to die for anybody would only have to die one time. So he died for you one time and when he died that one time he paid for all of the sins.

I was talking to guys yesterday and I asked them a question and I said as well. I know y’all are from up north and they kind of laughed at my nickname being Yankee. And I said, what? I said, Yankee. Anyway, it always opened up. But what Gary had done is he had gotten me a special set of golf balls for Christmas. And they had on the golf ball. Do you know where you’re going when you’re dying? YankeeArnold.com. It’s right on the Godball.

But it’s a Godball and it’s called noodle. You know, there’s title lists and there’s lesson-jurs and there’s all these max fly, all the kinds. But he got me a dozen balls and it has, it’s made by noodle. So, because they always tell me, he says, Yankee, you got to use your noodle. So I’ve got me a noodle and I use my noodle. And if it ever gets lost and somebody’s out there looking for golf balls and they find my golf ball, do you know where you’re going when you die?

And it’s got yankeyornall.com so they’ll go to the website. Well anyway, it helped open up the conversation and so I asked the guy, I said, do you know where you’re going to go when you die? He said, well I sure hope it’s heaven. Now when somebody says they hope, does that mean they know? That lets you know that they really don’t know how to get to heaven. You’d be surprised how many people don’t know the way. They don’t know if you don’t know where you’re going, they don’t know the way.

They don’t know how to get there. So it didn’t take long. They both trusted Christ as their Savior. And I thought this is so neat. It is wonderful. And all you have to is explain the free gift. If thou knewest the gift of God and who it is that sent unto thee, you would believe it. He told her if you only knew you would believe you would have asked me I would have given. He’s I’m asking you for water.

So he says here in verse 11, the woman said unto him, sir, thou hath nothing to draw with. The well is deep. From whence then has thou that living water? She sounds almost as bad as Nicodemus. How can a man be born when he’s old? How are you going to get this water? The well is deep and you don’t even You gotta rope. What are you going to draw with? Both lost. Whether they’re highly esteemed or low esteem. It doesn’t matter.

People are lost. Then he explains what he means. And this is what you do. You set him up so that you can knock him down. Years ago, they used to have bowling alleys and you had to have pin boys. Now you know what a pin boy was for? Set up those pins. Why? So you can knock him down. So the reason you set him down. So the reason you set people up when it comes to the gospel is so you can knock them down.

So you have to ask certain questions and you bring them to a place where they can see and understand it and then boom, you hit them with the gospel and it’s so wonderful watching them. But anyway, she says, where are you going to get this living water from? So she got the point, living water. And verse 11, the woman said unto him, sir, where are you going to get this living water? verse 12, are thou greater than our Father Jacob if she only knew?

Are you greater than Jacob who dug the well? She was not who it was. That’s why he says, if you only knew who I am and what I have to offer, you would ask me for some living water and I’d give it to you. is eternal security being taught. When Jesus says if you drink this water that’s in this well you’ll thirst again but I’ve got some water you don’t have to ever drink it again. One time and you’ll never thirst again.

So notice what he says here. In verse 13 Jesus answered said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall what? Thirst again. But in verse 14, something contrary to having to do it over and over and over again, said that’s why you have people say you can get saved today, lost to Mark, that means if you got to get saved again, and then you lost again, well then you got to get saved again, well then you got to get saved again.

Jesus is debunking this whole idea by saying no once you get saved you never have to do it again because eternal life is eternal life and shall not come into condemnation means you can never be condemned in the future. So look what he says. In verse 14, but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst. Now that looks like a promise. You’ll never thirst. That means you never have to desire to get saved again.

If you ever get saved once, why should you desire to get saved again? And if you can’t lose it, you don’t have to desire to be saved again. But you find out there’s people who say, oh I was saved and I got lost and then I got had to get saved beginning and no you didn’t. If you’ve ever been saved, you still are. But you can’t get saved and then lose it. Get saved and then lose it. That’s contrary to scripture.

Contrary to what Christ is talking about. So he says, now many people will read this and there’s a lot of so-called intellectuals, theologians that read it and can’t see it. Most preachers cannot see the simplicity of what he’s talking about. So he says here in verse 14, but who saw of her drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing it up and I’ll ever lasting life.

It lasts forever. It’s on the inside of you. Now you say, well what in the world is he talking about there? Well generally when you have a question in a particular chapter. If you keep looking in that book, most times it’ll be answered in the same book. So take your Bible look here in chapter 7, John chapter 7, and you’ll notice there in verse 37, verse 37, and this is what it says, in the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood in Christ, and if any man, what?

First, let him coming to me and drink. And then verse 38, tell us what he taught him. He that believeth on me as the scripture have said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. This is that everlasting life. This is that spring of everlasting life. So whenever I talk to somebody, I can share my water with whoever. God has like put within us this treasure in earthen vessels, the gospel, the greatest news in all the world.

And so every Christian carries within him a spring of living water. Did you know that? It’s not someplace else, it’s within you. You have within you that which can satisfy the next person and the next person and the next person. And the next thing that’s good about it is you never run out. You never run out of this living water because it’s forever being built up inside of you. It’s a spring of living, a spring keeps coming up. So you have eternal life and it’s because I let somebody to the Lord yesterday.

Do you know what? I still got some more water left. And I can talk to this person and share it with them. They didn’t get all of it, but they got some. Now I’ve got some to share to this person and some to share with this person and some to share with somebody else. So you can keep on sharing the gospel because you’ll never run out. The good news is still good news. I’ve been sharing this good news for almost, well, 54 and a half years.

Now look in verse 30, but this bait he of the Spirit which they that believe on him should what? Should receive. And you’ll notice, he says, because the Holy Spirit had not yet been given. Nobody received the Holy Spirit yet. But now, go back to John chapter 4. So you know what the living water is, the Holy Spirit living within you. He gives you this eternal life. It lasts forever and ever and ever and ever. And notice what he says in verse 15, the whole woman, said unto him, Sir, give me this water that I thirst not, neither came hither to draw.

In other words, I wasn’t looking for this, but now that you told me about it, I want some. You will find there are some people that are searching and will come to you. Remember, Nick and Amos came to Christ. This woman, Christ went to her. There’ll be time when you’ll have people that will come to you and there’ll be time when you have to go to them. But either way, you have something of great value. The knowledge you have of eternal life, of going to heaven, is something that most people have never really heard or understood.

Now last Friday night, Louis, how many of y’all have trust in Lord Friday night? 52. So those that went had some living water and they went and shared some of that living water with people and if they ever take a drink of it, they drink it, what do they have? They have a spring of living water inside of them. Now they can share that with somebody else. Now many people will know it and they cap off this spring of living water and they never let it flow.

They never let the Lord use them. They can talk a good talk and have a good walk, but they don’t share the gospel and that’s why it’s so important and you’d be surprised at things that could be done in your life and how wonderful it is. Now look back here in verse 16 Jesus said unto her go call thy husband and come hither go and get you go get your husband now do you think he understood her home situation?

Did he already know that she’s been married five times and was living with a man it wasn’t her husband. What is he says? In verse 17, the woman answered and says, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hath well said I have no husband, for Thou hath had five husbands, and he whom Thou now hath is not thy husband. In that saith, Thou true.” In other words, she told the truth. You have no husband. You’ve had five, but you don’t have one now.

A woman said, I perceive you must be a prophet. Jesus knows everything about everybody. And so the man who came to him, the Pharisee, the self-righteous individual, he needed to get saved just like a woman that needs to be saved. And maybe that’s why she came alone to the well at high noon because most of the other women wouldn’t be there at that time. But whatever. Look here in verse 20, our fathers worshiped in this mountain and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

Jesus said unto her, woman, believe me. The hour cometh when ye shall neither in this mountain nor yet at Jerusalem worship the Father. Ye worshiped, you know not what? In other words, she has her own religion. She got a religion. He said, you worship, you know not what you don’t know what you’re worshiping. Do you think there’s a lot of people that go into the motions and have not a clue what they’re doing? And then he says this. We know what we worship.

Salvation is of the Jews. Because, see, God was coming to the nation of Israel and having a sunborn that would be the Savior of the world. Now, you notice He talks about her and her religion, but saying that salvation is of the Jews. Talking about Him Himself. He was the Messiah. Now, if you look there in chapter 4, but look over there very quickly, we’ll just kind of throw this in here right now. looking verse 42 where it says, and now we believe.

And he said unto the woman, now we believe not because of thy saying, but we have heard him ourselves and know that this is indeed the Christ the Savior of the Jews only. No, Savior of the world. So So it came from the Jewish nation, but the salvation, the saving, the water is for everybody in the whole world. But remember, regardless of how a man thinks about salvation and Christ dying and paying for sin and all that, you may have a lot of questions, but understand this.

Nobody is automatically saved. Just because I’m saved didn’t mean my children were saved. has to be saved individually. Nobody can get saved for anybody else. It’s a personal thing. So if that is true, he lays it down and says, who so ever believe it and who so ever does not believe. So if you believe you have it, if you don’t believe you don’t, forget all the other stuff. Either you’re trusting Christ or you’re not and it’s your choice. Go back there to chapter three and look in verse 36.

Now if you don’t have verse 36 underlined in your Bible, I would underline it. It is a great verse to show to a person. In verse 36 of John chapter 3, he that believe it on the Son hath what ever lasting life. Hat, present tense, right now, hath everlasting life. Now a lot of time we use John 647, but it’s a good verse. It’s awesome. It says the same thing. But look at this one has the last part of it.

And he that believe if not the Son shall not see life but the wrath of God abideth on him. So belief or not belief? That’s the only thing, the only criteria God uses it. Do you believe that what Jesus says is the truth? And will you trust Him as your Savior? If you do, you have eternal life. If you don’t, you don’t have eternal life. And so some people want to argue about a thousand one thing. Forget all of that.

Bullen down to this. Are you trusting Christ or not? Don’t even worry about whether I don’t know if I was chosen or I don’t know if I was really elected and I don’t know. Stop all that junk. Will you believe it or not? If you want to believe it, believe it. And if you believe it, what do you have? Eternal life. And, well, I don’t know if he paid for all of my sins or part of my sins or am I automatically saved?

Forget all of that. You’re saved if you believe it. You’re not saved if you don’t. Isn’t that clear? We at Bibleline would like to extend a free offer to those who support this ministry financially.
